[Q] SMS unread notification - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. New the the Atrix! I had an HTC Desire before and I actually prefered it because HTC Sense seemed so practical. Im going to continue with the Atrix tho.
One thing I find strange is when I recieve a new text message, the only visual notification I get is in the bar at the top. On the HTC it would place a little number on the icon to let me know have unread messages. Any idea on how I can get the Atrix to do this?
Thanks
James

Try this app:
GoSMS Pro

Many thanks. Ill give it go.
Thanks
James

Some launchers have an extra option to set if you want an unread messages counter or not (Launcher Pro for example). And some launchers need extra stuff (GO Launcher).

Message count in SMS/MMS app

Does anyone know how to get the number of messages to show next to the contact's name in the stock SMS/MMS app? Thanks in advance.

I do not see an option for it, which leads me to believe that you will have to use a 3rd party SMS app if you want that feature.
Hey! try usin go sms or handcent sms from the market!

I would defiantly give handcent a go its got some pretty good extras also like multicoloured notification LED light depending on event and also you can show a SMS when the screen is locked for quick reply.
Well that's the thing, I meant without a third-party app, like it is on stock Android. I've had Go SMS, but I prefer to have notification icons that actually match with the app, I guess.

1x1 Widget for Unread Exchange Emails

It is absurd to me that I cannot easily find a 1x1 widget that displays unread exchange emails, similar to the one that HTC provides for sense. I know of "Android 1×1 Ultimate Unread Widget", but that requires root, which obviously I don't have.
Does anyone know if this exists? I want to try an alternative launcher, but this one issue alone is preventing me from doing so. I must be able to quickly see at a glance how much unread work emails I have.

You can just use a regular application icon. It will show the unread count.

I don't think so. I'm using launcherpro and the icon does not show the unread count. Is there something I am missing?

But what if I don't want to use ADW?
EDIT: ADW notifier only works for K-9 mail. I don't use K-9, and in fact cannot because I'm on Exchange 2010.

[Q] Notification app

For txt you can try Go SMS or Handcent. Not familiar w/an app to bring an email to the foreground, but I'm sure someone here will.

If you are running ADW launcher, there is ADW Notifier in the market that puts little counter bubbles over the app icons. I think Go Launcher has the same feature. Launcher Pro has notifications built in.
If you are talking about popups or something like that, I have no idea.

Not Really a popup but just maybe like a sms logo on my background or something like that.
What about missedit? its in the market and will put missed texts, phone calls and emails on your screen. Also there is sms unread, which has icons, that you can change , and they have little numbers above them for texts and calls, I'm not sure about email tho

For a iOS-like notification, I know ChompSMS and Hancent do it..or used to.

[Q] SMS lockscreen popup app?

i tried handcent, and so far its the closest thing ive found but it doesnt actually show the popup over the lockscreen, it kinda half unlocks the phone and makes the pulldown bar accesible while locked (which i dont like). i want it so it just shows over the lockscreen like on the iphone or on the htc sense phones

i dont just want to see 1 or 2 new messages i like seeing the sms previews
also if there is also a lock screen theme that can show facebook notifications that would be great to... thank you.
Take a look at widgetlocker.
It's a lockscreen that lets you put widgets or virtually anything on the lockscreen.
It's awesome actually and has many many options.

Thanks ... It helped with some Other Customizations for me
But its Paid version so might not be good for everybody ...
Do you know any other way ???
SMS preview "pop up" is available on many other messaging applications.
Go and handscent do this.
Sent from the valley of the shadows....
Yeah mate,Go SMS is worth it for pop-up sms
Go SMS is good for popups, but super bloated as an app. If you like that, go for it.
