had started this service out to TYTN users and figured i should spread the news around to some of the other boards. if you guys are looking for push email, please get in touch here's what i posted in the tytn forum:
I'm now offering exchange mailboxes to users (subscription based service). right now i see two, one by austindkelly in the wizard forum (he's disappeared for over a month and looks like he doens't offer his service any more) and one by denial in the kaiser section ($5/month). I thought I'd offer up a similar service starting with the hermes group (cheaper of course) with a few extra tidbits of joy...

I figured it's a bit of an overkill having my own exchange server that's serving a single account (i.e. mine). so why not open it up!

free accounts:
will provide 10 rotating free accounts at any given time for test purposes, will base it off of usage. so if you use the free account, i'll keep it up indefinitely, if not then account will be removed after 14 days and given to the next person in line.
Free accounts have 50mb storage, and have no alias, and no MAPI access...
Depending on utilization I may increase this 10 free account limit.

few people are asking about synching from multiple sources...
from my understanding i can only give you one alias for your accounts, which means you can't select your "from." however you're free to forward as many accounts as you wish to the account i create for you, but you can only send from one "alias."
another multi-synching thing people are asking is whether you can sync calendar with your desktop and email with my service. sure!! its best that way in fact - that's what i do. i have my outlook on my desktop which has my calendar, contacts, and only sync my email via push on exchange to my server... you can even take this a step further and set up IMAP access so what you see in your email client is the same as what you'll see in your pocket outlook... if you delete from your desktop, whoosh it disappears from your PDA too

quick question - has anyone here managed to get this to work with outlook '07? if i recall someone had, but someone pointed out that they get an error message saying that this version of outlook has been blocked by the administrator, which just isn't true
updates: outlook '07 started working - user discovered you just need to enable cached exchange mode.

Quick update regarding update in the server!
I know I've had some VERY avoidable downtimes this past few months. Because this is running on a laptop it has been unplugged from the power / ethernet while its been moved.
however good news! I've just purchased a replacement - a nice server
Specs - dual core AMD 5600+ with 2 gb RAM, 820gb storage (for those attachments ).
i'll do the switchover soon as i get the machine, should hopefully take 10-15 minutes as i just need to image the drive across.
once i get the machine i'll push up the trial accounts to 15 or 20 so if you're interested i'll post here when the migration is done and you can drop me a note

been getting a few PMs recently about whether i still offer this (maybe its the iphone crowd finding a cheaper alternative to apple's crazy crap service!).
yes i do and i think users can attest to the fact that since the upgrade to the new server been up and running at 100% since june!

quick note - yes there was a 3 hour outage between 5am and 8ish am on saturday; sorry about that. seems my ISP went down, given how short the outage was and how this was the first one in god knows how long i didn't bother spending 1/2 an hour on the phone with them figuring out what the issue was will chase it up if it happens again though!
can someone who has successfully set up outlook 07 with my service PM me with the settings they've used? i need to get some instructions on my site on how to do it, and i don't use exchange 07 myself...

I'd be grateful if someone in the know would clue me in:
Stock Android, I believe since 2.0, has supported multiple Exchange sync accounts (at least for email sync, and probably contacts). Running the
Android emulator on the desktop, I can configure as many accounts as I please.
However... I just took delivery of a Samsung Fascinate (Verizon) and as hard as I try, I can't make it configure a second account (it dumps me into the 'edit' UI for the first account when I ask to create a second one).
So I tried an HTC Incredible that we have here. Same behavior !
Yet, when I Google search 'samsung galaxy s multiple exchange accounts', I find a bunch of people claiming to be using multiple accounts.
What's up with this? Am I just not doing the setup correctly, or did Samsung remove this capability from the devices recently ?
I also figured I could install the stock Android email app as a workaround, but that doesn't exactly seem to be a 'one-click' process. K-9 has no ActiveSync support, so that isn't useful.
Can't speak for anyone else, but I have yet to see any Android phone that supports multiple Exchange accounts out of the box. That's one of the reasons I bought Touchdown, as it supports multiple Exchange profiles. Of course, only one of them can be active at a time, but if I needed to have two accounts active simultaneously, I could use Touchdown for one, and the stock email app for the other. Oh, and just FYI, I didn't mean for this to become a Touchdown advertisement. ^^;

Actually, I have a Touchdown license so this is a good plan.
Presumably the situation is this : stock Android supports multiple accounts but none of the device vendor skins do, yet. Correct ? (and it isn't possible to manifest the stock Android behavior side-by-side with the vendor skin).
I was just coming in here to ask this question. I would like a way to get multiple exchange accounts too. Since it was supported in 2.0 on up i think we should be able to get this to work. Unless Samsung messed this up for us.
Hmm, I thought Sammy left the stock Android email app on the Fascinate, but it looks as though they modified it just enough to cripple it. :-(

There are actually good reasons NOT to do this. Corporate IT admins have massive problems with this, and because Google/Sammy/etc. are actually TRYING to work with corporate IT... you end up with this.
Outlook doesn't allow it either, nor does any other mail program which respects Activesync conventions.
It has to do with security... and compartmentalization.
The Droid X and the Droid supported 2nd Exchange accounts.
I'm sorry, but I disagree that this is a security issue. They are completely disparate accounts, and this functionality should be stock on all Android phones.
That said, the Samsung client is the worst of all of them, and Touchdown is the best option, IMHO.

Oh, really? That's interesting. I work on the helpdesk for an IT company that hosts Exchange servers (and much more) for dozens of clients, including numerous medical and financial institutions (i.e. security is a significant concern), and I have never heard about any such security issue. Please explain to me how being able to setup multiple Exchange accounts on a single device is such a huge security concern, and include links to references if possible, as I may want to present the information at our security meeting, which I'm actually attending tomorrow. No joke, that's my job, and I am on the security team.
Btw, Microsoft themselves eliminated the single Exchange account limitation with Outlook 2010. It's still not unlimited, but you can now have three Exchange accounts per Outlook profile. Oh, and did I mention that iOS 4 now also supports multiple Exchange accounts per device? So yeah, if you have any links to share about these alleged security nightmares, feel free to enlighten me.

While I tend to agree with you, I'd like to point out that I haven't seen any issues with actually reliably syncing with an Exchange server with the Fascinate, whereas the mail client on the original Droid was plagued with bugs, and while it improved later on, one of the more recent post-Froyo patches broke the ability to sync with Exchange 2010 (which has since been fixed).
Also, if I remember correctly, the helpdesk I work on got a bunch of calls from clients who bought the Droid X when it first came out, because it couldn't sync with Exchange 2003, which was a pretty serious bug. Motorola had apparently tested it thoroughly with Exchange 2007 and 2010, but never with 2003. It was so bad that they were giving away licenses for Touchdown for free to anyone that complained, until they were able to issue a patch for it.
Anyway, no mail client is perfect, and all have their pros and cons. Which stock one is better or worse depends on whether the features that don't work right matter to you or not. Me, I'll stick with Touchdown, which basically mops the floor with the stock mail clients, just in sheer volume of features alone.

IOS 4, android 2.* and up and WP7 all support multiple exchange accounts. Unfortunatley Samsung messed this up for us.
I wonder if there is a way to pull the AOSP e-mail.apk and try that? Or if there would be another way around this.
Since someone got a little cranky I will elaborate on the security problem.
The issue is largely one of partition. Let me paint a scenario...
I am government contractor x. I provide you with exchange on your phone. Your phone very helpfully merges all your data together. That violates my policies. Additionally, your android device doesn't respect remote wipe, remote lock, or security policy for disclaimers, password complexity, etc.
But the biggest issue is that the exchange data isn't self-contained.
If the phone, client, or whatever provides partitioning of the data then multiple accounts becomes a possibility.
Essentially I as an exchange admin don't want some other company's mail cross pollinating with mine. And because my company is in Massachusetts, it's actually a violation of state law at this point to let our emails into someone else's system.
Outlook 2010 supports separate cache files, contact lists, and all other data... So it can do multiple accounts. The iphone doesn't, and neither does droid.
I love my android phone, but I cannot let the end users have them, because we can't secure thee data. Full stop.

Hehe, I wasn't cranky. I just wanted some additional info to back up a rather vague, blanket statement about data security. I could go on to discuss security issues, but it looks like your concerns exist at a much higher level. If the Android platform as a whole is too insecure for you to allow, then whether or not a phone supports multiple Exchange accounts is irrelevant. That being the case, I won't draw this on much longer, as it's beginning to drift off topic.
Based on what you've listed as your security requirements, I believe Touchdown actually has a strong enough feature set to safely allow Android devices to work in your environment. It supports a healthy set of Exchange security policies, namely remote wipe, PIN/password policies, and complete data encryption (it even encrypts the data it stores on the SD card), and since it only allows one account per profile, and all data is contained within the application itself, and not mixed on the phone, the partition requirement is met. Plus, you can deploy a template that dictates desired config settings for the app, and locks them down to prevent users from changing them. Oh, and don't forget the added benefit of standardization, in that you would only have a single email app to support, regardless of which Android device end users have. The only real down side is the added cost, as it's extra software to buy. And for those wondering, no, I do NOT work for NitroDesk, the makers of Touchdown.
I apologize if I'm still failing to understand any of your points in all this. I do have an interest in security topics like this, and while I'm not completely ignorant, I'm by no means an expert either, not by a long shot. I have never in my life heard of this happening, nor is there any proof that it's technically possible. I get the whole concept of all data being on the same partition, but cross pollination? They are totally different accounts, with their own data stores.
If a companies security policy is this strict, they probably shouldn't have any phone connecting to their network, unless they have a device management tool in place that prohibits installation of any 3rd party apps unless they install them themselves. Oh and they should probably remove the camera too, if they're a government contractor with this much security in place.
I don't think the Fascinate was designed for a company like this.
Just to throw in my 2 cents. A division of the company i work for engineers nuclear plants and because of the strict government regulations only blackberries are permited because other platforms are not secure enough.

Really? Your contact list isn't comprised of all the contacts from all the accounts? Do you keep strict track of which little yellow "new mail" envelope you've just pulled down? It can't happen? Think again.

Also, we were talking about email, not contacts. Emails are stored in entirely different data stores. I don't have 1 giant inbox with emails from both accounts. They are totally separated.

Because Exchange isn't POP or IMAP. It's an entire comm system. It's not just mail, it's contacts and calendar and notes and public folders and a half dozen other things.
If you just want to sync the contents of two Exchange inboxes, sure there's no TECHNICAL reason you can't. But that's not how Exchange WORKS, typically. I'm sure you could write a client that does that, but as yet folks haven't.
You can go in and uncheck to sync the calendar and contacts, but new "events" will still arrive and have to be thrown out by the client. Essentially you would need to write MORE code to NOT have the entire system than you would to HAVE it.

I understand that you have done it before. I've done it too on an iPhone. My point is that the capability to do so is not something that comes pre-cooked in an Exchange client. MS didn't do it until recently themselves. Given that a lot of the stuff in the Fascinate is pre-2.1 due to Samsung's pidgin kernel (really a 1.5 or 1.6 kernel hacked up for 2.1, from what I've read on here) I'm not at all surprised that functionality only recently available is missing.
Like I said - it takes more code to do it than not to do it... don't hold your breath for it from Samsung, although anything is possible in 2.2!

I've just spent an hour or two browsing the web looking for some factual information on what this service is actually for. I found lots of threads for it, people speaking about draining battery because of it, I found a lot of threads that had discussion on "exchange emails" and some microsoft services, but also about imap's and pop's, but not single thread that actuall says what this service is for, which could give me information if I could disable it.
Till now I thought this is a very important background service from google, that has crucial role in all sync operations (callendar, contacts, email including gmail) etc, and if I disable it, all this syncing will stop. But I'm starting to think differently, as I just disabled this service and did a little check by sending myself an email, and the galaxy received it instantly.
So, can someone knoledgable tell me exactly what this service is about?
Yes it is, it's for Microsoft exchange mail. You should use the GMail app it's way better anyways

I do use only gmail, since my first android phone. So it is completely safe to disable this service in these circumstances (I don't use Microsofts exchange mail and won't)?
Sorry to look a bit paranoid here, but could somebody confirm the above? I just don't want to break something, and then spend a full day looking for the cause, which would turn out to be the disabling of "Exchange Services".
No problems in 2 days whatsoever.

I have a new T-Mobile Galaxy S5. I'm using the stock email app with my organizations Exchange messaging system. My particular account has multiple folders with rules that route messages depending on the sender, pretty common for business users.
The problem is that when I receive two or more emails to any folder other than inbox the notification displays the wrong message. For example, if I get a couple of new emails to a folder called VIP the notification will indicate two new messages, so far so good. However, when I take a closer look the messages indicated are actually the newest from my inbox which could be hours or days old rather than the correct one just received in the VIP folder. It only happens when there are multiple notifications pending for a single account and only within the context of the notifications. If I go to the email app itself everything is where it should be.
Unless I'm missing something this is a huge flaw and I can't imagine how this could have escaped testing. I would very much appreciate if anybody could please advise.

Given that the problem is the type of notification, it's just as likely caused by the remote Exchange server as the email app. If you did a forum search to see if others are seeing the same problem, it would be a lot easier to discern a pattern.
If you want to expedite fixing (a possible) email bug, take the time to describe it well in a post to the Android /Google bug list. Or more expediently, try using a third party Exchange compatible mail app and see if that resolves the issue.

I thought about the backend too but after so many years of using various phones and email clients with Exchange it seemed to me like it was the device. Sure enough, Nine, Touchdown and Mail Wise all work perfectly. Therefore, it’s likely an issue with the stock email app and an obscure one at that. I will pursue reporting the problem as you suggested and take up the matter with T-Mobile too. Searches on XDA and the internet turned up nothing but that could just be me missing something.

I'm not sure that complaining to TMobile will do much. But Google does take the Android bug list seriously. It sounds like you have a good handle on the issue now. Well done.

Hey guys,
When enabling the hidden sync option in experimental settings, it reveals quite a few new sync items and in wondering what they are and what some of them turn themselves back on when I disable them.
Game Data - this shows up twice.
Credentials State
Google Nearby (I'm assuming this is for maps)
Location Reporting and Location History (I have location completely disabled and location reporting disabled in Google settings... This keeps turning itself back on)
Push Subscriptions
People Details
Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated.

The fine folks over here seem to have been ignoring your post, but so you know you are not alone wondering.
I have been disabling the hidden services for days now and tried to find a pattern or activity that turns them back on to no avail.
Even search engine results seem to be filtered of any useful answer, but this may be just another conspiracy theory...

All of them are self explanatory.
Game data: for games (whether you have them or not) so that your scores are uptodate.
Credentials state: for certificates in your device.
Google nearby: for maps and NFC
Location reporting and history: to keep your location details uptodate
Push subscriptions: to keep your push subscriptions uptodate (like mail Whatsapp etc)
People details: to keep your contacts list uptodate
I don't know why these are not obvious.
Regarding some of them automatically getting re-enabled, I don't have any such issues. If you continue to have these issues, you may have to use something like Myandroidtools or Disable Service etc to keep them under control.

The visible items are self-explanatory indeed. As the OP reported, what is troubling why is there a hidden "location reporting and location history" sync option and why does it get re-enabled after being turned off. I also do not use any location service and turned off everything I could on my CM11 on Nexus 5
Can you tell which service do you suggest to be disabled to keep the "location reporting and location history" sync disabled?

I am not familiar with CM11 so I can't tell you any options in that. Also in my Nexus 4 and 7 with stock KK 4.4.4, I don't have a hidden sync for location.
If you use Myandroidtools or Disable Service, then disable anything connected with location. There are quite a few.
If you run Tasker you can make sure your sync settings stay put; location reporting isn't re-enabled, by using the Synker plugin for Tasker and having it set things how you want them at Display On, Display Off, and Screen Unlocked events.
Additionally, Shazam has a hidden sync that re-enabled itself when you run the app. I just use a Task shortcut: Launch Shazam
Wait Short period
Plugins-> Synker, and set it with the autisyncs you want.
Beware that Google services pushed to the phone can change the number of sync options, as can installing Shazam or Skype for examples, and the calls to plugin need to be adjusted. Its less hassle than it sounds.
Hi im facing an issue with google sync, im not able to get the game data sync option in google sync. i have updated google play services,play store..and also play games. kindly help me if know any solution.
I am currently running on cm11 rc3...it was working before..now its not...

If you have disabled any sync option with DisableService or MyAndroidTools etc re-enable them.
CM's constant revision sometimes changes things unexpectedly. So try with a previous version of CM.

Hey after flashing and updating the gapps..check in settings..in sync....if it stills hasnt appeared. use greenify and hibernate the google play services. then just restart your phone(Not necessary, sometimes it just works)then checck...the sync for game data and other hidden sync items just appear...

They are spying on you. These HIDDEN accounts are there and the sheep who use stock android can't see them because they are HIDDEN in stock Android. They keep adding themselves back, they check themselves even if you unckeck them, they sync things you tell them not to sync, and it's NOT because you update something as I have not updated Cyanogenmod from 4.4 and it happens every time I start my tablet. Google will keep spying and can care less if its illegal to keep syncing things you don't want to sync because Google owns the US government. Google saved HHS when ACH Website failed, they have imbedded themselves so far into the government they are like a cancer that can't be removed. The US Gov "lent" Google GeoSat, one of our SPY satellites to make Google Earth, something that cost tax payers a lot of money. Google may provide Google Earth for free but they STEAL your personal information when you use the service, which means Google got free use of a US Government, taxpayer owned, SPY satellite so they could make more money for their private (not government run) company. Google gets free & subsidized aircraft fuel from NASA for their fleet of Attack Jets (IE fighter planes) also subsidized by WE THE PEOPLE. I am not some conspiracy theorist; I have worked for both sides of the isle on this one and can tell you Google is a problem.
Let's be honest, XDA has turned into a bunch of fanboys; it's not the site we had years ago. I have been fighting this crap for years (Look at my post history) and if you have not figured out yet, most of us who cared about privacy left XDA years ago. This is why no one is responding here; no one left cares. You are very correct, Google Play Services is MALWARE in disguise. I am not a crApple lover at all, and still use Android (for now), but am sick of Google's crap. I ported out my Google Voice number today and now have very little left to do with the company.
Google services is a framework that GApps and most stuff downloaded from the Play Store rely on to function. It used to be you can disable it and still have apps work, but a lot of them now wont even load if its removed or disabled. Google says its a way for app devs to take shortcuts, but it's there for one reason: Make App Devs LAZY so they they use Google's SPYWARE. App Devs (even most paid ones) don't give a crap about your privacy; most are adding ad code so they can steal your personal information. Google loves this as it opens up your device to have everything stolen, by not only Google but 3rd parties. Why do you think Google removed the ability to block app permissions then claimed it was a dev only feature? Google could care less about your privacy.
I sent the three main Google guys (@Google email not @gmail... Yes I know the Google Guys Real Emails) a project proposal from the company I own two years ago; they [legal, but Shady] stole the idea and nine months later made the announcement that in a few months they would be starting on Android Auto. My SMS messages going through Google Voice started to have issues shortly after with anything concerning to business coming in slow or didn't arrive at all, my Google+ posts were blocked for unknown reasons just saying they "didn't fit the community guidelines", and my Camera/Mic was constantly pushing popups saying they "couldn't start as they were already active" when I tried to use them on my Android Devices. I don't know why it's so hard for these sheep to believe a $500 Bil company, one of the most powerful in the world, wouldn't be spying on competitors or even stealing ideas from the community. I wouldn't be shocked if these creepy elite weirdo's havn't come up with their own version of "unReality TV" where they just spy on regular people like watching a television show. They are creepy vampires, all of them. I have had dating emails sent to gmail from the dating site I use not arrive despite the company I use tracking down the emails and saying they made it to gmail servers and thus should have gone through, client emails be delayed until after project deadlines, phone calls not make it, SMS/MMS delayed and/or lost, etc. I have people telling me they emailed or called me without reply, etc. My PC is virus free and My Android Tablet is as well. I now use a dumb phone and forward everything to that number, which no shock the dumb phone works when people call, but anything that goes through Google servers is still hit or miss. No one I know has these problems, but no one I know has called Eric Schmidt some foul names, so I guess people will say "it's my fault". Whatever; you just didn't get robbed several billion on a project by a garbage greedy scumbag company.

I have attached a little of what I am talking about because the net is filled with BS. The I had to block out a lot of the proposal email as they only stole part of the idea so far and this was my SECOND email. The first one has some how gone missing from my sent box, but had a DOC attachment with a formal business proposal. That went through, but as you can see from the screen shots, Eric Schmidt has now blocked me with a policy rule on his email. Again, they received the original proposal back in January of 2014, before this screen shot of the second correspondence, after which they started blocking my Google+ Posts and when I send this second correspondence email I found out I was blocked by Eric. Nice! Steal my ideas, try and cover up email (missed one! OOPS!) then block me! Google "Does No Evil!" Oh wait, Google is nothing more than an advertising agency pretending to be a tech company... I guess thats where we get the lies "Do no evil". Everyone knows advertising lies.

Google nearby: for maps and NFC
Location reporting and history: to keep your location details uptodate
Push subscriptions: to keep your push subscriptions uptodate (like mail Whatsapp etc)
People details: to keep your contacts list uptodate
I don't know why these are not obvious.
Regarding some of them automatically getting re-enabled, I don't have any such issues. If you continue to have these issues, you may have to use something like Myandroidtools or Disable Service etc to keep them under control.

If you have enabled the option in Greenify, go to DEVICE>SETTINGS>ACCOUNTS>Google
