How to get into Recovery- Please help - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just flashed this 2.01.605.0- Basic Debloat ROM. There's an error when I click the phone and an error when I try to get on to markplace. How do I get back to recovery? I don't have ROM manager and I cant get to marketplace to download. Realized the hold power and vol down only works on bamf. Please help.

try holding vol up and powering up at the same time.
Also, does your rom have the reboot into recovery when you try to power down and select restart?

Hold power+volume down is how you get to hboot. It is not rom specific. So boot your phone holding Power and Volume Down then select Recovery in the list you are presented with and hit Power.

Also make sure you don't have fast boot enabled, if you do pull the battery then power+volume down. If all else fails "adb reboot recovery" will get you there from adb.

I installed the thing where after you install a rom you boot into recovery but the rom skipped it even tho i installed the zip after i flashed the rom aswell..
I managed to get into AP Fastboot flash mode but i don't know how to flash my phone back to stock...can someone please help??
You can turn off the phone by pressing simultaneously
power and volume down (-) buttons about 5 secs.
Then yuo can think about what i can to do next ;-)

My phone is in boot loop right now and when I hit power and vol down, my phone with continually vibrate for about 5 seconds and then the screen goes out... but then it just boots up again
You can try push volume down button (and keep it pressed down)
at the same moment that screen goes out, maybe you can reach
AP Fastboot-mode in this way?
Well I can get to the menu for AP Fastboot
But im at work.. i dont have the file or RSDLight here at work.
But I can get to the recovery and it gives me the option for "factory reset" or "apply update from SDcard".
If I have a backup from bootstrap, can I use that file under the "apply update from SDcard" option?
EDIT: No you cant apply from SD (a recovery)
I think that yuo can't use backup from bootstrap via Motorolas recovery...
Maybe only way is install correct OFFICIAL Motorola ROM via AP fastboot.
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/
Here is also good RSD alternative for flashing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21575589&postcount=1
you close but it goes against what he just said. Once ur device powers.of press the volume keys then hold the power button ...it'll put u in recovery. You then need to scroll down twice I think to fast boot and press the up key to select....
You can only go down in this recovery. When you press up it selects. You will then need to follow a.vid on YouTube called how to restore Droid RAZR

Cannot boot into fastboot and get a boot animation loop. Anything to do?

Hello guys.
I installed CyanogenMod 7 but I forgot to wipe cache and dalvik cache (I guess that's what caused the problem). Now I get a loop in the cyanogen boot animation. I cannot go into fastboot (by pressing power on + vol down) nor RSD mode. Is there anything I could try to save my phone? (Atrix 4g; I installed this ROM atrix-dev-team - Development of CyanogenMod & other fun stuff for the Motorola Atrix - Google Project Hosting )
Thank you so much.
Wrong forum. Should be in Q&A!
You tried Vol - with power button?

He already said he can't get into fastboot like that.
OP you sure you can't get into fastboot or recovery? Are you trying to do it when bootlooping? Try pulling battery, then replacing it. Hold volume down, press power button and then let it go keeping volume down pressed. Or try the same but press volume up to go right to fastboot.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Hello guys. Yes, I have tried that, many times. I have pulled the battery several times, recharge it completely, things like that.
But, it still gets stuck in the "Unlocked Fastboot" screen or bootlooping in the cyanogen splash screen.
Any other ideas? Thank you so much.
Nevermind!
So you get the Fastboot unlocked message. And? Thats pretty much all you see on fastboot. Does the PC not talk to it at that point? Does it show "Starting Fastboot protocol support" after tapping volume up?
Are you instead trying to boot into recovery? Hold volume down and press power on to start. When the fastboot message appeares, release volume down, then tap volume down until you see Android recovery, then press volume up.
Thank you Genomerio. I was able to do an Android Recovery... I didn't know there were more options than Fastboot and RSD. I restore my previous backup and all is working now.
Thank you so much...

[GUIDE] How to Enter ODIN and Recovery Modes on Verizon Galaxy S4

Not sure if this is the proper section for this but thought I would post this here as I'm sure it would highly assist people in development and other tasks. This is the button combinations you need to enter each mode.
ODIN/Download Mode
Make sure your device is completely off
Key(s): Volume Down
While holding this key down simultaneously press the Power button until you see a disclaimer on the screen
Then let go of both buttons and press Volume Up to accept the disclaimer
Once the green robot is visible on the screen this indicates that handset is in now ODIN/Download mode
Recovery Mode
Make sure your device is completely off
Key(s): Volume Up
While holding this key down simultaneously press the Power button
As soon as the phone vibrates, let go of the Power button but keep holding Volume Up
When you see the "Samsung Galaxy S4" logo (not just the word "Samsung"), right after that, the next screen you should see is your recovery
Don't let go of Volume Up until you see your recovery
It's not necessary to hold the Home button to boot into Odin mode, the combination for recovery is correct though.
So just power/volume down for Odin and home/volume up/power for recovery

No download mode
I've been trying to get into download mode for days and can't seem to figure it out. I have the Verizon g s4 sch-i545. I've done all of the key combos and even tried some combos + plugging in the USB cable. Nothing is working for me. Any help would be nice. Thanks
I have no problem getting into recovery mode....

Home isn't necessary for recovery either. I just hold power and volume up, when the phone vibrates I let go of power and continue to hold volume up until I see the booting recovery message in the upper left.
So nothing? Nobody can offer some advice?
Moto not working
So I'm having no success with this. I went through all the steps including flashing the pre-release tar ball (MD2). All this went without fail, however once I launched Motochop and pressed enter to root. I get line Daemon not on. run port 5873. Daemon connected or on and then thats it. I don't get a notification at any point prior to me pressing enter or afterwords that I need to accept. It just stops and I get "you should reboot" from the notification bar. Have I done something wrong? I went through all the prior steps several times and I keep getting this error message.

Don't just push them. You need to hold both until you feel the phone vibrate. Then you can let go of the power button, but keep holding volume down until download mode starts.

When someone offers a debloat script that's in a Zip file and says "flash it to your device" do you think they mean flash it in Odin mode or flash using TWRP??

Odin Error
I am having one heck of a time flashing to the GS4 with Odin. I follow all of the steps to a "t" but cannot get the custom kernal onto the device. I'm having no problem getting to download mode and all the setting look to be correct, however when I start the Odin process I end up with a "fail" every time. I have been looking around the web for a few days for an answer, but so far this looks like the best thread to get help.
Make sure the kernel you are trying to flash is compatible with the Odin method. A lot of kernels can be flashed via custom recovery. The first thing I would do is uninstall and then reinstall the Samsung drivers. Make sure you have the latest and it is compatible with your computer OS. You would be surprised how often drivers can screw up Odin.

Can't get into TWRP recovery from boot

I'm a bit of a noob at terminology and android settings so try to bear with me...
I'm running a deodexed vzw CleanRom v1.6.5 and I've downloaded TWRP recovery via gooManager. (Yes I've installed the recovery script from it.) Back when I had a stock rom, when I held the power + the volume up button it would go into TWRP recovery fine. But now (I don't know if it's CleanRom's fault) when I start up the phone into recovery mode using the shortcut the blue text would appear but it would restart normally.
My stock backup was corrupted for some reason and it softbricked my phone so I had to odin flash and go through all that rooting process again before restoring from my CleanRom backup via TWRP. So I don't really want to go back to stock, but I guess I can download a stock one if I really need to.
I can still enter TWRP by going into gooManager and pressing reboot recovery from there. Any solution to this?
I'm also on CleanRom 1.6.5 and it works for me... Vol up+power

To get mine to boot to recovery while phone is off I have to hold volume + and menu key at the same time. Then hit the power button until it vibrates then let go of the power button. If I keep holding the power button then the blue writing is displayed but instead of going into recovery it just reboots. However if I only hit the power button and release when it vibrates and I am still holding the volume + and menu key then it will boot to twrp recovery.
Alright, I'm feeling pretty foolish.
It was a simple user error that I really hate to admit. If I hold down the volume up and the power button and keep holding down both, the phone restarts as normal. But I should be letting go of the power button when the phone vibrates, while holding down the volume up button keeps it loading into the recovery mode. Don't know why I didn't have that problem before. I attempted Travis' idea first then experimented a little without the menu button and it worked fine.
Thanks.
Glad you got it figured out. :good:

True and that is what he said he has been doing. However what if you flash something and you get a boot loop. You can pull the battery and try again but if it boot loops again you will need to be able to get to your recovery with a non booting phone. That is why it is important to know how to boot the phone into recovery with out the need of any apps.

Precisely my thought process. I knew that at some time I'm bound to softbrick my phone again and I needed to boot recovery from startup.

Help! Sero 7 Pro Won't Boot

So here's the deal. Yesterday after being at work all day, I came home and unlocked my tablet. A bunch of errors popped up right away about the launcher crashing and a few other things. I powered it down and turned it back on...and that's as far as I got. Every time I try to boot it gets stuck on the boot logo. I was able to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery mode and flashed xboxexpert's custom rom...but still no luck. The stupid thing won't boot and I'm out of ideas. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Bump? I need help here guys.
My friend's tablet wouldn't boot he opened the back cover unplugged the battery and used a universal charger on it for a few hours then when he tried it again it worked. Although he wasn't rooted and on stock firmware. Have you tried holding down the power and volume up for a few minutes?

Try hold the power button for 1 min
reply if it worked or not

Not sure what that would accomplish. Did it anyway tho and nothing happened...just started to boot up then turned back off.

Did you try going into recovery mode by holding Power and volume up at the same time until recovery mode pops up?
in recovery mode use volume up/down to scroll and power to select just select "Reboot Now"
