Does anyone know of an app that has support for overclocking on CBW's official 2.2.1 rom?
Thanks

Can you upload a copy of 1.4.2? I have a few others but not this one for some reason.

Milestone Overclock

I downloaded 1.4.2, thanks for the link, however it still would not load the module to start overclocking. Not sure why, if it does in fact have support for our phone and its rom

You know you have to be rooted for it to work right?

Yes, it is rooted and I did get the superuser request when I opened it. It just kept telling me "failed to load module."

Try 14.1 build but get universal root reroot and update your super user and bindery.
Be careful its easy to bootloop bell build.

this the update you need I think install through openrecovery in updates.

You're not going to get anything out of this. The APK they are talking about is for the Flash Lite that is already installed on our phones. It runs some Flash, but far from everything. These guys install the APK and go test some random flash game site and say it works -- because they picked a site that already worked before they installed. Then others say it doesn't work, because they test on a site not supported by Flash Lite.
If you want full Flash 10, you need to wait until Froyo. That's all there is to it.

Should I root my brand new SGP 4.0?

Hi all,
I ordered a SGP 4.0 and will receive it today. Should I root it as soon as I receive it? Does 'rooting' make any changes to the stock firmware? Does it change anything else compare to a stock SGP beside that it will have 'root' permission?
I am new to the Android environment as I have never owned one before, but I am an embedded software guy by trade (on a totally different discipline and processor family) so I'm not a stranger in the firmware world and Linux environment.
Later, I like to learn programming/hacking the Android for fun and hope that I will be able to contribute something.
Thanks for any comment.

No, all it does is just give you root access.
Not really, unless you want to use Titanium Backup. Mine is rooted (I think, can't remember lol) and I really don't see any other advantages except for overclock apps or other root-only apps.
Overall, it's not necessary. Just flash a ROM (I prefer CM7 or Klin's Klassic ROM) and a kernel (NOTE: Steve's kernel for the US and INTL 4.0 may cause bootloops if you boot into ClockWorkMod Recovery).
Thanks! I appreciate the replies. So, if I want to root, I just grab the latest version of Superoneclick and have at it?
If I were you I would wait a little longer and get some more information about this, beofre rooting. I rooted my Player using Superuser, just the latest one I could find.

See, I used DooMLoRD's Rooting Toolkit, which I find to work, unlike the time I tried to root with SuperOneClick. If one doesn't work, go with the other.

I would 100% suggest you root your device, mainly for the fact that all the custom roms are more stable and user friendly than the stock samsung ROMS, I rooted my SGP installed a custom ROM on it and I'm living it up, I'm so happy that I can't even explain it. I couls give you the link to the rom forum for the SGP's if you want?
It will void your warranty. but i think its still worth it .it raly depends on what you want to do with your android.

Hey, I'm a huge novice at all of this. I've had my player for a few months and I've heard of tons of people that have rooted their device.
What does it allow you to do? Is it how you get more themes?
I'm very unintelligent on this subject so any clarification would be great...

From my understanding, its an OTA update. So just be on stock and check for a software update. But be sure to go through the process to keep root.
Just updated while on stock and it's only taking me to 234, thinking I need to update to 235 in stock recovery but can't find a working download.
Hmm. Well I havent seen any link to download the update. I was under the impression that it was OTA. The only one I remember was the leak but I dont think thats what the newest version of Eclipse is based on. Sorry I cant be more help. I havent gone that route and updated. Im sticking with 2.3.4
You're good, yeah I'm guessing once I'm on 235 and update it will give me the new build. Seems like it may be a pain though because of some new security patch, might just stay on 234 myself.
The update really has nothing useful in it. I'd stay on whatever you have now and wait for CM9 which may be coming pretty soon. Thats my plan.
What's the word on CM9, I hadn't heard anything? Kind of veering off topic here but yeah I ran CM7 for a while, Eclipse was just less buggy overall. I'd kill for a solid MIUI on dx2.

I assume you rooted using ZergRush method? This modifies system files during the root process and will force the 2.3.5 OTA update to fail during installation.
Root using Pete's Motorola Root Tools one click method and you will be fine. Just make sure you install VooDoo Rootkeeper from the Market and save a backup of your 2.3.4 root. Temp unroot and accept the OTA update. It will install with no issue if you use Petes one click to root. Once booted into 2.3.5 open VooDoo again. First restore root and the delete the backup. You can now flash eclipse 2.2

Can anyone verify that torpedo root method works after the update? Or restoring root from Superuser or VooDoo?

I'll check if photon torpedo works once the update is complete.

Not sure it applies to you, but I am sure the update will fail everytime if you have bootstrap recovery installed. As the update uses a bootstrap method itself, if it can't launch it's recovery properly it will fail.
The catch to that is that since the last two updates were OTA's there is no SBF for us to revert back to stock with.
So, you can take the downloaded OTA out of the /cache partition (Will be a zip file with todays timestamp), rename it to update.zip, place it on your sd card and flash through recovery. That's a work around

Looks like Photo-torpedo method worked!
Photon-torpedo.sh threw an error like it did in the last update but #Root Check says it's all good. Super User, Busy box, Titanium Backup are all happy with root.
Also no problem to go R/W with Root Explorer so maybe this update is not locked like the last one!

Jelly Bean 4.2.1 OTA

So I just received a 1MB OTA which took my version up to 4.2.1. At the very least, it fixes the missing December issue in the People app. Given the size, I doubt there's too much more in there.
Any performance improvement? Can you run an AnTuTu 3 test?
Keep root? Any problem with unlocked bootloader (but stock cmw and rom, only bootloader unlocked)?

You should get the update eventually automatically. Otherwise (once someone provides an update URL) you can just take the package, and adb sideload it from Recovery (boot device to recovery; do update from adb or whatever it's called; on the PC, do adb sideload UPDATE-NAME.zip)

Then please tell us the exact filename of that zip file. It should look like this:
Code:
123abc456def.signed-manta-JOP40D-from-JOP40C.123abc45.zip
The numbers in front and at the end are especially important.
You can maybe clear data from the Google Services Framework and then try polling for the update.
I just want to know if I am unlocked and rooted will I keep those? I am still on stock recovery and rom, but I did add AOSP browser to system/apps manually so that may need to be removed I believe.
