[Q] Repair for Unstuck Screen - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since many of us I/O LE tab owners have experienced the unstuck screen issue, I am curious if anyone has developed a DIY method for repair. From what I can tell, there are a few who was able to get replacement I/O tabs from Samsung, but even those came back with the unstuck issue.
Has anyone experienced the unstuck screen on the commercial release edition?

Use the warranty, they're held in with glue, it would be a majore PITA to do it yourself. I don't know that you can "fix it" yourself. It seems that it may be a misaligned frame causing it.

Has anyone successfully returned their tab to Samsung for repair/replace? Seems from earlier threads that replacement device was same or worse.

[Q] G Tablet Screen has a puddle or burn in

This is my second G Tablet from Woot.
The first came with a bad pixel that I was intending to live with and try to correct. It went from one bad pixel to a whole line of green pixels across the screen and without rooting and flashing a different rom to get a program that actually would load on the G Tablet I gave up and RMA'd it. Pretty amazing service, shipped mine before the return arrived and no shipping either way.
Now my second G Tablet. Plugged it in and charged until the green light came on and booted it, anxious to get all of my apps reloaded. Immediately noticed that there is an outline about half an inch in from the screen edges all the way around the screen, it looks like a puddle on the screen and a lot like burn in on my Plasma TV. I honestly don't want to roll the dice again and get a new one, but I don't know if I should be concerned about the longevity of the product being less with this issue. Most apps you can't see it and it doesn't bother me, I just don't want to have it die on me a few months down the road and not have the option to return it.
I hope there isn't another thread about this specific screen issue, I couldn't find it and any advice would be great.
Try 'Pixel Fixer' from Market.
Also: LCD burn-in, image persistence fixed!
Are you sure thats not the dual layer screen protector that was shipped on earlier units ? perhaps woot got a punch of old stock.
Also might be some trapped humidity from transit (moving between indoor/outdoors) I would run it on highest brightness for a couple of days if that doesn't fix it I would exchange.
Not sure if it is the dual layer screen protector or not.
Being that it is a G-Tablet we don't have access to the true android market without rooting and running a different ROM, which I haven't decided against, but if I am going to be RMAing it i don't want to hack it and take a chance they refuse to replace it. It isn't bothersome, just more concerned about it effecting the longevity of the tab.
Thanks for the replies.
just download the apk of google.
if the tab is still covered by the manufacture warranty then make them fix it. if they cant fix it they will replace it for you then.

Need recommendation for GT-P7510 display issue

This GT-P7510 with me began to show some reddish display problem. Below is the 10-second video. The 1 minute video I have a problem uploading as of now, but working on it.
Code:
http://youtu.be/SG3A13qesWY
Once the redness takes over the screen (0:05 onwards), the tab will have reddish gradients especially visible when viewing videos, full screen colored pictures, or operating the camera, something like in 256 colors mode or less with red gradients. Its not seen on this short video, but can be seen on the next video still in the works of uploading.
Aside from that, the tab works perfectly normal. When in low brightness and used for everything else aside video, the issue is not much noticeable can it can be used just as any other normal fully working units.
Now my problem is I don't have warranty as unit came from abroad and after bringing the unit to local Samsung, I somehow feel that they don't want to spend time to think about the issue thru the way they talk with me. Looks like they have to improve their staff for customer service attitude but that's not the point of this post. Anyway, the proposal to me after having the unit with them for more than a week for assessment was to "replace the screen and camera". I did not have it repaired for the moment so I can think about it carefully and ask for recommendations.
I mean, hello. All works well aside from that reddish tint. I completely understand that all Galaxy Tab 10.1 are less than a year old and all warrantied so doing replacement will probably fix the problem and with least use of brains. I guess that's the protocol for all 10.1 units with any hardware issue as Samsung will cover the warranty.
However, didn't they think maybe something just need replace on the board, like perhaps just the CPU/GPU chip or somewhere similar? The screen is the most expensive part of the device and if that's the one need replacement then it already goes to the level of thinking of the thing is already in the borders of "beyond economical repair".
Also, where did the idea the camera needs replacement as well? I will do a testing of a video call and see if the other party will see me reddish and will update this post.
I've thought of several options:
1. Auction it off whilst being honest with the issue of course, letting the market dictate the price by starting a low bid.
2. Just use it (or have a toddler/kid play use it), live with the issue for the moment. I play with it also in terms of testing custom ROMs and curious of the upcoming ICS onto it. I can prefer not to use it as I have a competitor tablet as well.
3. Wait it out for this tab10.1 to go mainstream to the masses and mature, when many owns it more chances of parts coming along and 3rd party repair technicians that can do isolation and swap out parts with a worse unit (ie. broken screen).
4. Wait it out, then go back to Samsung which probably by then knows already how to use brains to isolate the issue and provide a knowledgeable recommendation as probably that time they handle out of warranty units. Also, hopefully by then whatever replacement part cost should have gone down.
As like all my other stuff, the thing is mint, screen protector on & back protected by TPU (whilst the back plastics are still there intact) even before it was used, boxes and all accessories are as new, the power adaptor still has its plastic skin on. That's why I am kind of "attached" to the unit, this is something that has no physical sign of use at all.
Any futher recommendations or other inputs on how to move forward with this?

[Q] The oil slick problem.

I'm having that gross blot on my 10.1. I called Samsung, they told me to go to Best Buy, and Best Buy told me to get ****ed. So I guess I'm on my own. Is there any way to permanently fix it without sending it in?
Sending in is the only way and some have gotten units back and have it happen again.
Two weeks into ownership of my Verizon LTE version the rings appeared. After reading up on the issue I decided to wait it out. I used pressure points along the edges of the screen to coax the rings away and changed the way I carry the tab and the way I place it in the case (eventually changed cases altogether). I'm now 3.5 months in and the rings aren't an issue for me anymore. I'm careful not to put unnecessary pressure on the screen when I carry and store it and I think this goes a long way towards avoiding the issue entirely.
IMO things like never stacking things on the device, always placing it on flat surfaces face up when not in use and using cases that don't put pressure on the chassis to cause deformation are all good best practices to employ with these devices. When I must carry my tab in a bag I make sure its screen faces a larger flat item like a folder or book but that the tab itself isn't swished between books.
I don't know about US Samsung policy
but in Indonesia .. in earlier period, I manage to have my tab replaced new and since then the watermark/NR problem have never appeared anymore ..However, recently I heard that the replacement policy has gone into a service screen replace .. either way should fix the problem
I think the screen problem only appear in the early batch or old stock .. because I never heard such problem anymore in my place especially newer batch

Really, even now?
What's the turnover on getting it back? A week or two?
Not to disappoint you, but this is my case... (CompUSA) Got 2 Galaxy Tabs 32GB version last week. One for my wife, one for me.
My wife's tablet came perfect. (no exchanges)
But my tablet... History...
1st tablet: Came with 2 dead pixels right in the middle of he screen.
2nd tablet: Huge Oil Slick / Newtons Ring on 2nd day of use. (was only solved for a few minutes by putting it on the freezer)
3rd tablet: not 2, not 3, but 4 dead pixels...
4th tablet: no dead pixel, no oil slick YET... UPDATE!!! > > > AGAIN!!! SAME ****... OIL SLICK AGAIN!!! 12/26/11... Going to return it again tomorrow. > > > Returned it, got money back... (CompUSA manager even told me that all 10.1 have been returned because of dead pixels or oil slick issue, and he agree to give me a full refund.) I would say that at least 90% of Galaxy Tab 10.1 are defective. If you got one without this issue, consider it an exception and consider yourself lucky. This is the end for me with the 10.1 Tab, will never recommend it. Yet another update... My wife's tablet also got oil slick on day 15... Returned it too... Money back too... The end...
All tablets were: P7510 UEKF3
Install Dead Pixel Test from the market to check for dead pixels.
That's why I hate BestBuy... I buy all my electronics at Costco or CompUSA.
> > > Last edit (12/31/2011) ... Went to AT&T and got the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE... Finally Happy...
quick fix

Not sure if people are still dealing with this, but I have found that 5 minutes in a refrigerator fixes the issue. And then being careful not to set stuff on it and not applying too much pressure to the middle helps keep it away. i got my slick 3 months ago and it came back once since, but another trip to the fridge and all is well.

Anyone having issues with unintentional S-pen actions

Picked up my Note on Sunday from Best Buy. Yesterday afternoon I started having problems with S-pen causing inadvertent actions without me touching the screen. At first I thought maybe I touched the screen without realizing it, but at this point I can hold the pen 1/4 inch or more away from the screen and it still occasionally clicks the screen (or draws a line in S Note). Not constant, but often enough to be easily demonstrated.
I'm planning to exchange it but wondered if anyone else is having this issue or knows of a fix.
Digitizer performance continued to deteriorate over the next few hours and using the S-pen became nearly impossible. It was clicking everything it came close to. Did a factory reset to clear any software issues but the problem persisted.
Best Buy staff was great about exchanging the phone... and I got the last blue Note they had in stock. I was surprised they still had their one white Note available; no one had bought a white Note at that store.
Yeah I noticed that on mine. It lasted a short time but was pretty bad.
This is rather unbelievable as it's a Wacom digitizer not some Samsung hack, in spite of the S-pen moniker.
I imagine it's possible Wacom didn't want their name associated with it just because of something like this. I hope not at least
Anyway, I never noticed this with the international version, and I had one for a while.
Unacceptable if it would occur often.
update: It just occurred to me that this may be a pen issue. It's an ultra small pen, and this issue might not happen with a regular Wacom pen.
I will keep an eye out for this.
Not just S pen
I'm experiencing the same issue with my galaxy note, but not just with the S pen.
After upgrading my software, the lower-right hand side of the screen just went dead every time the note was placed on a flat surface. very annoying issue.
I was forced to downgrade my software just to get it working right again. the thread regarding this issue can be found here:

[Q] Top 1/3 of my Prime's Screen is Non Responsive

I've had my Transformer Prime for a few months now and had slight workarounds for it, but it's gotten to a point where I can't ignore it anymore, as it seems to be getting worse.
Basically, in certain apps, and also occasionally on the home screen and app drawer screen, the top 1/3 of the screen doesn't respond to touch at all. This can be a huge problem since a lot of buttons are located up there, and the only way I'm able to get to them is if I use the keyboard.
I have done a few factory resets and a cold boot, and the problem still comes up. I've also noticed some light bleeding in the same area, so I don't know if that adds anything.
I really don't want to RMA this, as I've read about horror stories of people's primes being damaged or taking forever to be fixed, so is there any alternate way of fixing it? Or is it best to take the plunge and RMA it.
Thanks in advance!
RMA.
RMA I think is your only option. Or you can try to take it back to the retailer and see if they will replace it. I've learned over the years that Best Buy accidental damage coverage is worth it... Brick your device... unbrick it by accidentally dropping it out the car window. Take it to Best Buy and they give you a new one. lol
If you want to open your tablet yourself and not risk an RMA chances are the cable that connects the digitizer to the rest of the tablet is loose... its not a very secure connection.
If you take like a plastic toothpick or something of the like under the two slots beside the dock connecter you can slide them sideways.
Then take a guitar pick or plastic pry tool and use it to seperate the screen from the back. There are lots of videos on youtube how to do this safely.
Once you have the prime in two parts, butterfly it open and you will notice two ribbon cables that attach the screen to the back of the prime. One of these is for the display, one is for the digitizer. Make sure both are properly attached. Be careful with them as they are delicate and do not take bending well, however you have to firmly press them into their slots.
Check out the "opened my prime" thread for pictures and more info how to open your prime. If you dont have physical damage im pretty sure this is the cause as i had the same problem after opening my prime, however fixed it by making sure the cables were connected properly.
