What is the point in HTC Sync? - HTC EVO 3D

Maybe this does not belong here, but as almost every root/mod thread tells people to install HTC Sync, it should go here. I see no point in installing HTC Sync for any reason. The only reason I can think of that devs are telling people to install it is for drivers. If that is all you need, why not go to http://developer.htc.com/ and download "HTC Android USB Driver for Microsoft PC" That contains the drivers for your phone...if you need Diag drivers, they have been posted before, but a search for HTC Diag will bring them up. I hate having programs I dont use installed, and that is what it seems devs are telling people to do. If I am off base, then report this to a mod and I will give my consent to have this thread deleted. Just seems easier to me

Really?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App

great story....now what's the point in posting this in Dev again? lol

there...edited the first sentence...because root, mod, dev threads should start offering a link to the drivers and not have to install some program...I hate installing programs just to get drivers...hate Printers for that very reason...have to install some 100mb download just to use it how it is supposed to be used.
And, if you want, report the thread to a mod...Ive already given consent in the OP to delete the thread if they want.

Calm down a bit...
Yes, it is possible to just get these drivers by not installing Htc Sync.. However, have you ever considered that some people may not be familiar with what to do with the drivers once they have downloaded them?
The reason they give the Sync route is to provide a fool proof way to get the drivers which may be a lot easier for people that aren't too familiar with everything.
Anyways, where is the link to your rom? I can't want to download this!

you have to wait for s-off. No point in posting it if you cant flash it
And yes, I considered for a minute or 2 that it was offered as a fool proof solution, but then I realized we were at xda, and if someone knew how to turn their computer on, install programs, connect printers and other devices, find themselves on the internet, AND find themselves at xda, they should know how to install a driver from an inf.

Does this Rom have 4g enabled?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App

Its still built off sense, so dont see why it wouldnt have 4g...5g is a whole different story though. You only lose 4g by going to an aosp rom (pretty sure)

Do I need s-off to get this ROM to flash , and there is no 5g on it yet ? Will CM7 have the 5g ? What does this ROM have and where are the screenies ?

I believe you will have to wait for CM8, which will have 5G by combining 2G and 3G.

Where's the donate button?
Edit: I also noticed WiFi isn't working for me. Why is that?

Man this is the biggest ROM I have ever had!!!

So, when you developed this ROM, did you know there was a better way to make it available to the masses than your current choice of Sneakernet?

Master's Axura ROMs to show up in ROM MANAGER soon! Sa'weet

Everyone of us use Rom Manager. Koush single handedly gave us an incredible and safe recovery. His app Rom Manager and Clockwork Recovery is something EVERY rooted Vibrant has/should have.
For those of us who flash ROMs, it would be nice if the ROMs were supporting Rom Manager. For those who have not used this on other phones, this is what I mean:
On my other devices, I can go to Rom Manager and click on "Download Rom" to find a new ROM (ie switching from Bionix to Auxora and AOSPish, etc).... OR... I could click on "Check for Rom Updates" right from RM, and NOT have to go check websites (especially now that most developers have their own sites where updates may be available sooner).
I found the instructions Koush gave for adding ROMs to Rom Manager.. it seems very straight-forward. You can check them out here if you are interested.
So, I ask... am I crazy for wanting this?
Seems like the developer who does this is going to open up his/their ROM to a LOT more people just due to convenience.
If people were going to go from eclair > froyo > eclair I guess people would need the stock kernels unless the ROMs had a kernel... which is a whole new point.
Not sure why Rom Manager does not backup the kernel.... that would make things a LOT easier too. Maybe @Koush can make it happen one day.
I've wondered the same thing.it's a dead feature at the moment because no roms are supported yet...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yeah, I've wondered the same thing. I helped a friend root his Droid Incredible and in the ROM Manager there were several different ROMs available for download, and it was really conveninent. It makes me a bit sad that ours has nothing.
Probably because these ROMs are beta. Probably because they are not completely safe to upgrade without people going to the forums. Probably because the devs want to promote their forums.

I don't buy that. On the Droid Incredible CM had their latest beta versions in there with no problem. So did others.
I exclusively use ROM Manager to keep me up to date with the latest CyanogenMod Nightlies...I have tried other ROMs but have yet to find anything as up to date as CM6 Nightly

Master is on board. He has sent everything that's needed to Koush.
So... Looks like all of us Axura lovers are in luck. If you aren't on his froyo, I suggest trying it!
Well... Master sent in everything for Axura, but it is not showing up yet.
I wonder what needs to happen now?
For those Devs that do not want to subscribe to that you could at least create a link or two and let others download via it.

so we now can use Axura 2.0.4 n irom manager?
Well, Master has supposedly sent everything to Koush to make it happen... I think Koush just needs to activate it? I really am not certain how the process gets moving once all the code is done and submitted.
Perhaps this will not take place until .5 is released and it's not on Koush's end??
REGARDLESS... this is going to be an amazing new feature for those who like to flash ROMs. Big props to Master for making it happen so fast. He won me over with his ease at adding this to his plate.

Is rooting this much easy?

I came across this thread which hints at rooting in a very simple and in few seconds...My question is that if it is this much easy then why it has been made so complicated in other ways??? Is it really working??? Is there any drawbacks in this type of rooting??? should I go for this way of rooting???

First of all thanks a lot for the reply..Sorry for the mistake I made to post it here..I was thinking that it is Q & A forum because I opened several tabs at a time.
The reason I made a separate thread was that I wanted other people also to comment not just those people who replied to that thread...Because I didn't see any expert member to comment on that thread.
Sorry if I am wrong...I am noob to android phone...Before I was using windows phone.
Rooting or flashing is easy as long as you can read, interpret and understand. If you can't, well that is where the "complications" come in.

BTW the only reason for me to root was to get rid of Samsung blotware.
If you are new to this (I'am) don't delete apps ... freeze using Titanium Pro and PLS read this list before you freeze anything:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0Ag43oj7rLQP4dENZcmhGN0ZUa3pHSENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html
I don't know if this method is really an exploit or just a consequence of the Android platform being a development platform open to anyone with a PC and an USB cable to install things...
But the problem with real exploits is that they can be fixed on future versions and be device/manufacturer specific. While installing modified kernels is a feature available for most devices at the cost of the warranty (sometimes).

More information about B2G (Boot2Gecko) is available here.
So... I saw this and couldn't resist having a little sneaky play around with it. This is NOT a daily driver. This is NOT stable. It's pre-alpha. If you want something to use as a phone, this isn't it. If you just want to use your phone as a phone, you want this.
With that aside, and with the clear understanding that while this won't brick your phone, it's nothing to do with me if it did for some reason, or likewise if your cat (or other cute pet) suffers a painful death as a result of flashing this. At your own risk, like everything else here on XDA-Developers!
So without further ado, WTF is this? Well, it's a project from Mozilla (the lovely people behind the Firefox browser). I won't go into details, suffice to say I suggest you read a lot over at their wiki - start off at https://wiki.mozilla.org/B2G and work your way through the pages.
Anyway, what is this? Well, it's a TAR to flash via ODIN (codeworkx informs me not to flash userdata partition via heimdall, I suggest you heed that warning, and this tar contains the userdata partition). Within it is a kernel (should have CWM etc), a /system, and a /data. These are not for Android, rather are for booting up this Boot2Gecko operating system. It's Mozilla's attempt at a cloud OS for phones.
Anyhow, if you wanna know how I did it, check out https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Mozilla/Boot_to_Gecko/Building_B2G_for_Samsung_Galaxy_S2
I've prepared a build environment so I can update it when I feel like it (read, when it needs it). So without further ado, your download link (direct link, should be quite fast):
Download Here
Video? See this post
What works?
According to my group of testers (thanks datagutt, and roniez ):
Camera
Audio
Front camera (cannot capture picture)
Video
Wifi (see https://github.com/andreasgal/B2G/blob/master/WIFI.md)
I have no idea if calls work, but I think you'll need to disable your SIM PIN (if you have one) first.
Big props to the developers of this (see https://github.com/andreasgal/B2G for some links and you'll find what's going on)

With supercid (all ones) you can install RUU from different One versions, also downgrade firmware. You could install the DEV edition ruu on an ATT phone for example. The RUU checks the cid to make sure you are installing the correct software for your version. Supercid fixes that..

How do I root a Verizon Galaxy s4?

The videos in the sticky are incorrect or defunct. Many of the required files that these videos link to are broken links and the video near the top telling how to root a verizon s4 is false. The files this guy links to are blocked by Google Drive because they are "infected" according to Google Drive
I am not sure why XDA Developers are stickying videos with links to infected files. But there seems to be no other videos on rooting Galaxy s4 and I do not want to use KingRoot because it is potentially spyware.
I prefer something using TWRP and Odin.
So what is the real way of rooting an s4?
I am preparing to be passed an s4 myself... I've so far found some instructions, but will not try anything until I hold the device, of course... https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/jfltevzw/install
I hope I don't have to jump through too many hoops...
After a small amount of searching, it seems that if the phone ever took an ota upgrade, it will be impossible to bypass the locked boot loader... I've got my fingers crossed... But not too hopeful.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63848199
Use the "old method" if you don't want to use Kingroot. The application only had a 5 day trial, so just keep that in mind.
