Perma-Temp Root + HULU FIX - HTC EVO 3D

ANNOUNCING PERMA-TEMP ROOT + HULU FIX!!!!
I've taken the excellent existing information from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159354 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688054&page=46
See the first link for instructions, etc. Basically just plug your phone into your PC, make sure USB debugging is on, using your phone as charge only, and that HTC Sync isn't running. Then open up the attached zip and run Run_ME_Fr3vo_ROOT + HULU FIX. OH, and I'm not sure if it matters, but have the latest Adobe Flash player installed on your phone before you start (10.3.185.25)
That's it! Your phone should be rooted AND HULU-ready until you reboot.
WHAT I DID: All I did was add a few commands that will delete your lib file from com.adobe.flashplayer, then install a different .lib file with correct permissions. Now, when you go browse Hulu with your stock browser or Dolphin (making sure your settings are set to disable mobile browsing, or set as DESKTOP VIEW, etc), Hulu won't recognize your phone as non-desktop, and you'll be free to watch Hulu all you want!
[Please note: this is my first time doing anything like this, as in first time ever creating a .bat file or doing anything with adb beyond the very basics; please bear that in mind when ripping me apart for being a noob ]
If this was helpful, please let me know with a thanks!
EDIT: Thanks to abe_ahmed09 for reminding me this works with stock browser too!

Unable to test this right now due to no PC access. But dude, no one should rip you apart, you are trying to help the community and I commend you do doing things that a lot of others do not have the ability to do.
Kudos,
Tee Jay

Thanks man that's nice of you to say! I really enjoy XDA because (if I'm diligent) I can learn little by little, ask a few questions here and there, and look back and realize I've made a decent amount of progress!

works great! tried it without updating Flash and that was a no go, but once I updated it works perfectly!
Thanks to you and all of the devs out there for all of their hard work these past couple of weeks!

Thank you it worked

Perfect man hulu works great
sent from my troll car lol

hey noob,lol
very nice work! thanks for this.

SWEET!
Glad it's working! I'll add emphasis to the fact that you need the latest version of flash for it to work.
Here's a question: are there any other programs out there that have to be tweaked AFTER root in order to work? What I mean is, right now I've got 10 or 20 root apps that work flawlessly after I root. But if there are good apps out there that require additional tweaking after root, perhaps we could incorporate that into the .bat as well

n00b question: is it safe to run this if we already have temp-root?

Should be--I just tried and it was fine.
Worst-case scenario, reboot phone and then run it! Either way, because of the nature of temp-root, it's all pretty "SAFE" at this point

Do I need hulu PlUS to use this? Or is it ad supported?

Oh hell no! Just use the free Dolphin Browser from the market, then go to settings and choose "Desktop" so that websites think you're browsing from a PC/Mac. When you get to HULU, depending on your settings, you may need to click the green arrow to watch the video.
Works in Full Screen too!!
...of course, if you're talking about Hulu-plus-only videos---then yes, you'd of course need Plus to view those videos just as you would elsewhere.
EDIT: Reading over your comment again I guess I need to clarify further: nothing here is "ad supported" because there are no apps, etc that I've provided. ALL MY HULU FIX DOES IS SWAP OUT A FILE IN YOUR ADOBE APP FOLDER THAT TRICKS HULU INTO THINKING YOU'RE A COMPUTER. But note that you'll still need a BROWSER that enables you to browse like a computer.
Were these points unclear to anyone else?

Works after updating flash to 10.3.

So just to be safe I rebooted my phone, to lose root, and ran your .bat script. After i ran the script I opened up terminal and type in "su" and is said permission denied. So I didnt have root, i ended up using one of the other .bat script from the forums and running your .bat script after. Everything worked like a charm after that thanks for putting this together. =] Great job

Awesome, Great to hear it! Ya, not sure why the root method in my OP isn't working for you...different people have posted different results with the same root method! Anyway glad it's working, and as you discovered, there should be no problem running this on a rooted phone
Now I've tweaked it further so it'll overclock your phone to 1.8 GHz! I might make a new thread for that...

Root is working but hulu does show up and starts to play then I get a message telling me its not supported on this platform. I updated flash and mobile mode has been disabled.

Hulu finally! Rooted or Not

I came across this app at the market that was just put up today called DroidLu.
This app will allow you to watch Hulu on our SGT 10.1 without needing any flash hack! It costs 99 cents I would have paid more for this since it made it possible for me to watch Hulu! Now 3.2 has come to our tablet previous hacks don't work.
I can confirm it works!
Currently on Tsk650 V5 GT-P7510
Note that Hulu only works when you run it through Droidlu app. And make sure that you have latest flash player 11

works great on galaxy tab 10.1 T-Mobile.
It works great! Solid $1 purchase.
Thanks for the heads up!
It's barely an app. It's very difficult to scroll on the progress bar, very difficult to adjust the volume. The worst part is that the return button doesn't take you to the previous page. So you have to start all over again when you click on the wrong button. If you hit the lock button, you also have to start all over again after unlocking. So, if you want to want the show from beginning to end without interruption, without any misclicks, without jumping forward or adjusting volume, this is the app you want.

I was able to track down the apk at the link below but I can't get it to play any videos
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-applications/183229-droidlu.html
Has anyone gotten this app to work on a 3.2 ROM? I've tried it on overcome 2.0 and Task 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2 with no luck. When the video starts to load it just closes.
Any one else?
You can get hulu to work using the old method. You just have to remove flash, copy the old .so to /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer, reinstall flash from the market, then use a hex editor to change the plugin variable AND to WIN. I am running galaxy task 5.3 and I just watched Castle without any problems.

Would you mind creating a new thread with a sticky how to?
My experience today:
Search the market for "DroidLu" and it will bring up an app called Flash Video Browser by Dan Lockard for just under a buck. I just found out about it on droidforum, installed it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and it works! I'm watching Modern Family right now!

Yep, just installed and it works perfectly. I'll give his FlashBrowser a try in a sec, because this is definitely worth $0.99!
EDIT: Spoke too soon. FlashBrowser shows as not compatible with my Verizon 4G LTE tab. I'll stick with the old DroidLu APK (linked above, working) and see if there's another way to donate to him.

Have you rooted your NT today?

If you haven't check the Nook Dev. section of this forum since last night, Indirect and anlog have figured a way to root the NT. please check over there...
List
Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487
Google Apps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354887
Third-party Keyboard (in progress): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355082
Getting mine on Friday, can't wait to put all these (and maybe more) to good use.
Nothing really worth rooting it for yet - at least for me. When they unlock the boot loader then I'll consider it.

Yeah, I rooted and got market working! I was about to return this, but now I have hope for the future capability of this device. The only huge issues I have now are just being able to install swiftkey, remap the nook button, copy/paste in all fields, and for autocomplete to work with gapps. Otherwise this thing kicks ass! Thank you developers for all the hard work, I will be sure to donate $20 to whoever figures out how to get roms on this. If ICS can run on this, I will be one happy camper.
I rooted mine and almost immeditly after the mobo in my big computer **** the bed. There is lots of really good stuff you can do with root access. You'll be able to put a real keyboard on there the google market, and soooooooo much more.

I'm kind of feeling the same way. With sideloading as an option, I'm getting pretty much everything I need from various non-Market sites. That's not to say rooting isn't worth it - just not a high need right now, except for the possibility of expanding the 1GB limitation.

How did you get swiftkey to work? I can't seem to enable it once it is installed. I saw that someone posted a possibly functional workaround similar to kf, but it was really laborous and I have two huge exams in 40 hours
I expanded the 1 GB limitation by using a 8 GB Micro SD card I had sitting around the house.

I dearly want to root the NT. I have access to an iMac and a Windows XP machine, but I'm not at all familiar with scripts and adb and stuff. I rooted and rom'd my Htc Incredible, but that was easy lol. A video walkthrough would be awesome, or a one click solution like Unrevoked. I do appreciate everything that the devs have done though, thanks guys. If anyone would like to hold my hand through this process I, and I'm sure others, would greatly appreciate it!

Is there anyway to Copy and Paste without root? I assumed the NT would automatically be able to do it unless I am missing something?

I am not sure I am going to root this device. If I can get what I needed via sideloading I may just pass. I hate having to redo everything each time an update get's pushed down, and was not happy with CM7.1 (Wifi, SOD, and other issues) on my NC.

Ubuntu on Note!

Just wanted to let you guys know that Ubuntu runs great on the Note.
I used Ubuntu Installer Pro to fetch the script and Ubuntu image. (on the market)
It runs in androidVNC, but it's still very responsive and fully functional.
Attached a screenshot of Firefox running it.
this is awesome! i'll try it as soon as i get home!
I am a super noob so can you please answer a few questions for me.
Are you running it through a remote desktop?
Or is this a complete operating system running on the phone?
Thank you in advance!

It's weird. It runs within Android, locally on the phone. This means you can tap the home button and go right back to Android.
With this image. You can set the resolution of the screen to 1280x800 rather than getting a custom image for that size.
You also have access to SD and external SD from within Ubuntu.
If you're not using a keyboard + mouse, I recommend setting your input to trackpad (this is in the AndroidVNC settings)
It runs really fast, especially w/ LXDE (it does fine in Gnome too!)
Apps included:
-Firefox
-Thunderbird
-Open Office Suite
-GIMP image editor
-Emacs Text Editor
-Transmission p2p client
-and a lot more
Thank you for all this info.

Turning your phone into a full computer. MHL it to your TV, get a keyboard, etc
This doesn't seem to work 'out of the box' or by following the instructions in the pro app. I configured everything as asked, and put everything in /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/Ubuntu. As soon as the terminal app launches to start ubuntu.sh, it immediately errors because it doesnt have the correct path pre-configured for our phones. So I manually went to the correct path and ran "sh ubuntu.sh" but I was again hit with an error "can't execute /root/init.sh : no such file or directory". This is past my abilities, as I assume that is a path issue within the .img. How are you guys getting ubuntu booted?
Is your note rooted? Almost seems like it can't access that directory.

Nope since it has that issue it will auto start but it makes no difference... you still have to open the app and manually start connection....
Now lemme offer some advice... not sure why you use it but I use it because its the only app that allows the SMB connection. Which allows me to drag its network address to a command window and perform a robocopy /mir function and sync the contents to a folder on my computer
If you just want wireless access to your TouchPad and don't need that function there are other apps that will autostart correctly like RemoteWebDesktop, FTPDroid and ESFile Explorer also has added that function
Hope that helps. But I'm stubborn. I have SAMBA on all my Android devices because it just works. Have not been able to figure out what the glitch is with it starting up

I use it to transfer files (videos and such) to my kids touchpads when I am not home or when they are using it. I realize I can start it each time, but it was nice having a windows share that i could copy files to even when I was not there to launch Samba. I wish the developer would fix the "wifi tether mode" issue or whatever is keeping it from auto starting like it used to.
Thanks for the advice cdzo72, Ill give some of the other options a try. Ive been using FTPServer in the meantime.

I cant get FTPDroid (or FTPServer for that matter) to auto start on boot reliably. I am on the latest nightly with latest gapps. Is there a trick or something I am missing?
Is this a CM9 issue with allowing apps to auto start?
EDIT: It must be an issue with CM9 and Samba conflicting, the exact same thing happens on my OG Incredible with CM9.
It looks like Samba FS is now starting at boot as it should (just installed the 7/18 nightly).

LunaCE

If you've not been back to webOS in while, this is worth checking out. The devs at webOS internals have built a community edition of the Luna manger used by webOS.
Great new features. Best (in my view) are the new gestures allowing to switch between apps by swiping in from the edge of the screen. Card stacks can be put in tabs for faster switching too. Behaves like I imagine windows 8 will from the videos I've seen. Definitely worth checking out. Only word of warning is that you must be running the latest webOS version which can be a tricky update with android installed. Nothing too tough.. Something to play around with anyhow
You will also need to enable beta testing feeds in order to download the new Luna. This will require you to remove preware and reinstall
as well as modifying the settings in preware. There are several changes that need to be made but the webosnation forum has detailed instructions for making all the changes.
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
good point. I didn't find enabling beta feeds too tough. Worse was updating webOS to 3.05. The ota update doesn't play nice with moboot on some devices. Kept failing. I used webOS doctor to update. That actually removes moboot (not android, just moboot) so I just used acme to reinstall moboot only.
vid of new features
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGG0yRYO5Q4&feature=related
looks nice, now get it out of beta I had trouble getting beta feed to work, I wasn't savy enough to get it right the first time so I went back to default preware lol

I have both beta and alpha feeds enabled but don't think I found the right file. When I do a search for Luna I get two files one dated a month ago, which doesn't seem to do anything and the other dated 2010 which obviously isn't it. What is the file name.

Not sure where the difficulty was for you, but a decent set of instructions are on the webOS internals wiki.
http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Testing_Feeds
You'll need a computer with a working novaterm installed. From there its just copy/paste. I uninstalled preware then used the novaterm connection to enable the feed and reinstall preware

the file is LunaCE. Make sure the feed is enabled using the instructions AND enabled in the preware manage feeds menu. When preware is updating feeds, do you see beta feeds being shown as the circle spins?

Yes I see both beta and alpha the only feed I don't have enabled is the preware theme feed. Could it be in there? Also it was almost a year ago that I installed preware so could there be a new beta feed that I will get if I uninstall and reinstall preware?
UPDATE: ok I figured it out it was under beta-woce which has wasn't enabled. I. Hadn't noticed that feed yesterday but I have it now so thank you.

No , you must also install an app from preware called" Tweaks " .I made the same mistake myself. Open Tweaks then in its menu settings enable gestures etc .
I hope this helps .

You might be able to download a terminal emulator in preware, then follow the same instructions entering the commands there instead of with a pc.

hdad is right. You can use xecutah/xserver/xterm to do this. Heres a short video showing it running:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDzhOylypv4
You can use this to run the commands. I tried it once before but wasnt very familiar with it so I went the webOS quick install route instead. But if you dont have a PC to work on, try this out.
The process to get the alpha/beta feeds installed though requires you to delete preware. Which, without a PC, is kinda tricky to get back. You can try Save/Restore. Its kind of like Titanium Backup for webOS. But I dont know if restoring it from there will effect the command changes you make. Or download Internalz Pro and email the Preware ipk to your device, I think you can use Internalz to handle package installs.

Yeah, its not the Xecutah part i'd have trouble with, it's the "enable alpha/beta feeds" part. I only have one PC that will work properly with novacom, and its my dads slow-as-heck Windows Vista laptop. I'd rather wait for this to exit beta than risk it(cause I don't trust the laptop)

Oh, so you're afraid of something going wrong and not being able to use the webOS doctor? I get that. I have a feeling it will be in beta for a while though. The devs just started this. I love it though.

That's exactly it. And its not like I use webOS enough right now to warrant it.

What do you mean? The ENTIRE process is carried out on the TouchPad from within webOS using Xecutah... using the terminal with Novacom is an entirely different route of doing the same thing
The only thing you use the laptop for is to view the wiki site where the enable commands are... but ALL commands are typed in and executed ON THE TOUCHPAD and not connected in any way, shape or form to the computer....
Hope this helps and gets you on the way to enjoying the new tweaks
By the way... they have updated to LunaCE 4.90
