[Request] Honeycomb Stock Browser apk & odex - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like many of those who are trying out the unofficial TouchWiz UI, I am also frustrated by sammy's tweaking of the stock browser and would rather return to the vanilla stock browser.
I am no developer, so I'm not sure, but my hunch is if I replace both the current TouchWiz browser.apk and browser.odex file in system\apps\ to the stock ones, then I would be fine.
The stock browser.apk is available here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121933 but I am having trouble finding the stock browser.odex. Does anyone have it, and could they kindly share it?
Thanks!
p.s. If I am way out of my league and totally wrong about switching the sammy browser to stock, please enlighten me too!!

I prefer sammy browser over stock anytime. Have had many issues with stock browser when loading java rich web pages, those with multiple scrollable windows on a main webpage. The text mostly jumbled up scrolling down. This has been rightly addressed by sammy browser. Why not try opposite, sammy browser with vanilla stock version(rooted) and let know how it comes up. be careful in extracting the browser.apk, incl all associated files like odex and lib.

Answered but not solved
Thanks to this post in android development:

But I guess I was out of my league since more, and like tweaking lib, if lso seems to be required to return to stock browser.

Mytouch Slide Browser

I have been in the android "game" since the the release of the G1 and I have tried many different ROMS, many different browsers and the mytouch slide has to be one of the best I have used whether it be a stock android browser or 3rd party. The pinch to zoom is as smooth as the iphones and the new copy text feature works great compared to other stock android browsers.
Basically, I just want people to know about the browser so maybe we can see it implemented in more custom ROMs. I think it's currently in the Zen mytouch slide ROM, so I highly suggest you guys give it a try if you haven't already

I agree with this ...., I usually use an after market browser, but I will say the browser in the Zen rom is really nice.... pinch zoom is smooth and the copy text feature is nice also
It really is...I was really surprised with the speed also...I hope some of the devs will notice this also and can start implementing it into their roms. i tried replacing the apk from different ROMs but it doesn't seem to be that easy
can someone upload the .apk?
I can post it when i get home, but all I did was download the zen rom and pulled the browser apk. from it. I couldnt get it to install on my current rom though.
Here's the Apk.

Editing ROMs

Hi all,
I am relatively new to the android community, so I don't feel confident playing around with large parts of ROMs, however I am interested in trying to edit a ROM so that it has as many of my apps and things as default to save room.
Idealy I would like my ROM to:
-Have only the apps I want and need, so I have started stripping out some I don't
-Have my background of choice and no others
-Have a custom launcher (I am looking at LauncherPro, although i understand this only works on android 2.0 and above so cant intergrate this yet)
I am using the stock T-mobile 1.5 custom ROM uploaded by Paul onto Modaco as the ROM I am editing (Sorry I cannot post a link as this is my first post)
Once I have completed this project I would like to create a tutorial to help other people new to the Android scene, who, like me, don't have the knowledge or confidence to edit the ROM majorly.
My first step is remove the unwanted apps and replace them with the ones I do want. So my first question is what apps are vital to androids running that I wont be able to delete. Also, where can I get the .apks of the apps I want to add in?
Any other help in this project will be greatly appreciated.
Thanx
Aaron
well you can check the wiki for refrence but i due know that you can remove apps like google apps gmail email market market updater .... just remeber not to delete them like remove them and move them to a safe folder on your desk top in case you removed a vital app ok thats what i do

Thanx. I have a copy of the original ROM and the one im editing just in case. Is it just a case of trying it out to see if it works and what i can and cant delete then?
Thanx
Aaron
more or less but its better to know what your removing so check this site shttp://source.android.com/
http://forum.androidcentral.com/hacking/6037-general-rom-faq.html
You have to be careful what you are removing and changing. Removing google talk basically dissables the market which I am not sure why but it does. THere are other apps that are linked that you would not think about. You also must know how to resign the rom zip file. There is an app here called autosign and it works pretty good. Its for themers but it works for moding a rom too. If you want to replace the launcher simply delete the launcher.apk and add in the one you want. The wallpaper backgrounds are usually in the launcher.apk unless you are using a sense rom. Sense uses Rosie.apk and the wallpapers are all in htc.widgetpicker.apk (i think thats what its called).

Couple of Silly Questions about Vibrant ROMs

Couple of Silly Questions:
1). Is it possible to modify the open source ROMs available to use TouchWiz? I happen to be in the minority that like it. If not, however, no big deal.
2). Question for those that have flashed a new rom: Is it possible to get the Avatar app and the Sims 3 app to continue to work? Or do they just work out of the box?

It depends on what you mean by open source. Eugene373 was playing around with an AOSP build for the Vibrant, but it hasn't gone much of anywhere lately. His latest custom roms (Vibrant9/VibrantR3) were built primarily for getting rid of as much of Touchwiz as medically possible and they are basically stripped down and customized versions of the stock ROM. CyanogenMod 6.1 is the only other open source ROM being worked on and it's still in alpha. I don't see Cyanogen or any of the team members working on our port caring about Touchwiz as it sort of defeats the purpose of stock Android in the first place.
The basic point behind custom or aosp roms is that you don't like Touchwiz and prefer stock android, so it's a bit of a self-defeating strategy to think about adding back what the mods are deliberately removing.
If you like Touchwiz (as I do) then I'd say stick with stock and tweak/customize from there. It's too much work to approach from the other end and makes little sense. I'm basically stock, rooted, lots of the bloatware removed, MobileAP and the Captivate Camera installed, EXT3 lagfix...and that's about it. Phone is smooth as butter.
If you are running a custom rom, it is possible to simply push back the Avatar "app", as it's just a shortcut to the movie file on the sd card. You can also just run the VideoPlayer and start it from there regardless, so I guess that's a matter of preference. I got rid of the pointless icon. The Sims 3 install apk can be found in one of the system dump threads in the development section.

ICS Stock Contact Application

Is there any rom out there, that have a stock ICS people application, and all other features of samsung rom?
Questions go in the Q/A section Thread moved.
If I understand you correctly you`re looking for custom rom that looks like stock? So, Alliance base or VillainRom would be the answer
Yes I am looking for a custom rom, but i need the samsung camera with zero shutter lag, video calling support, and the ICS stock contatct application.

I know this doesn't exactly answer you, but if you want the interface looking like stock ICS then you should download Nova Launcher from the Play Store.
I prefer it over TouchWiz, especially after I'd got used to the ICS ROMs on my GT-I9000 over the last 6 months.
The only problem is some of the Samsung widgets don't work, some of them do but not all of them.
Strangely there are a couple of things I do prefer about Samsung's software though, including the calendar and contacts apps.

Samsung apks on AOSP rom

Hi,
i want to swap to a AOSP based rom but i want to be able to take some samsung apks with me... is this at all possible?
the ones i want are:
Dialer (Phone)
Alarm clock
Samsung memo
Gallery
Calculator
Web Browser
fm radio
txt message apk
Most (or all) of these apps require touchwiz framework, so the answer is yes and no.
Yes, if you take also the Samsung's Touchwiz launcher and some libraries (jut enough for these apps to work), but then, that defeats the purpose of going to AOSP.
No, not if you don't want Samsung touchwiz at all.
im sure ive seen people using samsungs camera on AOSP and also "s memo"... :S have they had coding changed to be ported or something?
if so does anyone have any idea if any of the apks ive mentioned have also been ported??
thanks guys really apreciate the help
this forum used to be a lot more helpful :/...
anyway, ive managed to find SOMETHING
there are some ported apks linked below - in case anyone else has the same question as me and maybe sees this thread!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632639
anyone have any other information about other apks or updates please let me know
You can use this mod to run samsung camera on CM10/AOSP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746611
I have used it myself.
You will need to flash it with CMW recovery.
