[Q] People recovering my deleted texts! - HTC EVO 3D

So I decided to sleep over at my girlfriends the other day and woke up to her yelling at Me. The then got mad at me for testing other girls that were just my friends ( I know, It's kind of ridiculous). Anyways the strange part is I had deleted the messages and then she told me she knows how to view deleted messages. So I've been looking around online for a while now and I haven't heard of any way to view messages when they are deleted. Oh by the way she isn't very tech savvy. So any ideas how she is viewing messages that I have deleted? Also I'm using handcent, but the messages are not on the stock messaging app.

Any chance she installed some kind of app on your phone another time that keeps your texts and email in memory seperately. Oh yeah and find a new girlfriend, even though she was right she shouldn't be invading your privacy that much.

Pimpin ain't easy. In the meantime, you should keep a screen lock on it.

It's possible but i haven't noticed anything... What would I look for and how could I get rid of it If there is one? But ya tell me about it.

Mm it will be hard to tell with Android , anyways , some people is having problems erasing sms because they come back up in the device(I think is HTC sense.com ) but.you should just lock the screen, and if she ask you why you locked it , well tell her that you want to make sure if you loose it don't want anyone messing with it ha ha
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d

She quoted the conversation almost perfectly ha... So either she has it sent to her phone VIA some spyware app that i haven't noticed, or she found a way to outsmart half the world and bring texts back from the dead... Ha any ideas guys? I don't like the idea that someone can read my deleted messages.

Ya maybe. It would be nice to know how she did it. Plus Idk how she will react to lock codes. I guess we will see.

From the msg list screen in handcent hit the menu button. Then select more. Hit delivery report. This shows all sent msgs but not received. Not sure if that is what she was looking out. from the report if you hit menu you can clear the log.

Freak I think that was it! Sweet! is there something like that on the stock messaging app or just handcent? Thanks a ton!

There are ways to recover erased text messages.
Most likely, you have a sms logger, something like smsbox.
As a side note, I would get rid of someone spying on me. Trust is a major part of a relationship, spying shows no trust, which dooms any future.

Make sure the sms/mms forward feature is disabled. Maby she set it up to forward your messages to her email or phone. (Messaging, Menu, Settings, Forward To...)

Or time to find a new girlfriend that isn't insecure, or trusts you...

get this app
The hidden message app. Been using it a while .. makes cheating a breeze ! It looks like a stupid stoner app. But really hides all messages and calls to a privite folder that u need a pw to get at !!

If you have Google Voice integration the Google Voice app holds a longer history.

Maybe you're really trying to get us to help you recover her deleted messages. Judy kidding. Maybe she's using Dexrex

SMS Problem. Need help ASAP.

I'm texting this girl I want to get with and she say that every text says "Hi, my name is david and you have the wrong number". It said something different when I was on CleanROM, and because of said problem I switched to SteelROM. Now I have the same problem.
Is it something caused by the ROMs because this only happened when I switched from Synergy.
I'm going back to Synergy now. I also have this thing when someone calls and I click to answer it, it says that someone is calling and I have to press '1' to answer it.
How can I fix this. It's pissing me off because this chick is getting mad and that's not good for business. lmfao But seriously, please help.

the press 1 to answer thing is a google voice issue.. the text maybe as well.. how long ago did you set it up?? go to the google voice website from a computer and check through all of your settings, i know from there you can change the press 1 thing.. i would then look at the settings for that person individually..
i know my best friend had almost the exact same thing happen with a girl that he was interested in.. but he just wouldnt receive her texts, she didnt get a random text back.. he ended up unsubscribing from voice to fix it, because he didnt want to take the time to fix the settings.

over 6000 messages with one person? Yeah, I'd bet that was the problem...
Try having him download another SMS app such as handcent or gosms and see if they can open the thread.
Thanks Freeza!! resolved the issue (is it only the HTC messaging app that struggles like this?) i personally used GOsms on my DHD before moving over to my EVO3D

After a certain amount of texts the stock messaging app for every ROM loads forever or crashes when trying to open. I use Handcent and it always works. 10000+ texts.

I'm the exact opposite. I have over 5000 messages with one person and stock messaging app is fine for me. It's my 3rd party messaging app thats breaking. Good luck though!

I had the same issue, kind of. I couldn't send a specific person any texts. The word "Loading" would pop up and nothing else would happen. I had to delete the contact and create it all over again.
For good sake, delete some messages. I mean, what, are they legal briefs? I used to always beck up Mt messages before flashing a new ROM. I finally realized, who the hell needs to keep texts (unless they're legal based). I don't bother anymore. But I realize that's nit the best solution for someone new to Android who things o'er may be better

[Q] sms sniffing

Greetings to everyone
I have question about security. I have to know what options are there to find out sms conversation. I use Handcent sms in which I use privacy box with one person to determine that noone else except me would know what we are texting about. But one thing happened. Third person know what exactly we are texting about, even if I constantly deleted sms everyday. I can't imagine the way how he find out this.
I study software development so about security I know something. I know that handcent saves database of sms even if they are deleted or not. I used sqlite to find out what is exactly in the db and find out, that this is not right way how he find out. I also find out that in handcent autobackup option was checked, but noticed that when you delete sms, backup file changed and there were only sms i intented to be there. I also tried antivirus programs to find out if there is some kind of malware or trojan, nothing found.
So my question is: what options of finding out sms conversation are there? Even if third person can access mentioned mobile phone or not?
I will appreciate any good advice

Was it a known person? Or a random person? If he was a friend/person you know, then he either heard through the grape vine or got your phone or the person you were textings phone. I dont think there is a way to "hack" your phone from a computer and view the texts you sent. Unless he got them from your carrier.

Yes it is but would need to go through tones of red tape and have to be a Cop of some kind.
Most likely it was who ever you were texting. There are also other ways that it could happen. Apps that forward all texts to another number used to be a big one back in windows mobile days. Not sure if there is an app like that for android

It's probably the problem that this person has a friend which works for vodafone which this phone uses. Forwarding all texts is not possible i think, because this person would catch up on this earlier..

There used to be an app that could be installed that did all this with the user even knowing about it. Once installed it was hidden away and it never showed that the messages would be forwarded. It was a proof of concept app that someone made for learning. If they had someone working for the company it would have to be a higher up to have access to the cached data bases the company keeps which are encrypted.
I have a feeling the OP was ratted out by the one they were texting.

EVO 3D Screen Lock

Been at the hospital for several days. My older brother was in a motorcycle accident and now I'm waiting to see if there's enough brain function left to continue treatment. He has and EVO 3d on Sprint. I need some help to get past his screen lock (numeric pin) so I can go through his contacts. This may get modded down but I'm desperate. Can anyone help me?

I don't know his gmail and the phone is bone stock. Thx.

If contacts all what you need. try to login to his gmail account and contacts will be there because they are typically synched with his gmail account.
Your other option to see his bill statement either online or on paper. you will see his contacts phone numbers typically there with location but not name.
Install android commander on Windows. Connect to your computer and if he had usb debugging "checked" you will be able to access everything via. Windows. Long shot but worth a try. I did this when I smashed my screen and needed to get everything off of it before I sent it in. I'm sorry to hear about your brother.

Really bro? I'm so sick of the 300 mods we have in the 3vo section! Is it in the wrong section? Yes. Did you have to say what u said? NO! I would have done the same damn thing because he's getting answers faster this way. Go be a **** somewhere else...Anyway you might want to try doing the old trick from the early android days. Call his phone from another one and answer it. When u answer it hit the home button and see where that gets you. Hope this helps and God Bless your family

So sorry to hear about your brother. I work for Sprint and unfortunately there is no way to get around a pattern/passcode lock on the phone without a gmail username/password or a hard reset. What you can do is check the sd card to see if there is a vcard file on it. It's possible he made a backup of the contacts on there. The file will end with .vcf. If you see any files like that put them on a computer and import them into another gmail account that you have access to. Hope this helps and I wish your brother luck to recover from his accident.
You could use Juopunutbear to get S-OFF and then flash a custom recovery from fastboot and then either pull his GMail account information from there or at least bypass the lockscreen.

There is no way to bypass the lock screen or get gmail info through the recovery. Plus I'm pretty sure the Juopunutbear bootloader unlocker hard resets the device.
Couldn't you pull the data partition with a recovery menu?
if you know is gmail, then attempt to do a password recovery of it. if u manage to get the password then you'll find all is contacts most likely synced with Google contacts.
check if hes still loggged into his gmail on his PC.
if hes using Firefox, he might of have had firefox save his password on his pc (assuming he as a computer) in the firefox options u can look at a master list of saved passwords and hopefully his gmail would be included...
found a link here: i havent tried it but its worth a shot.
http://droidlessons.com/how-to-reset-your-android-lock-screen-password/
If your familiar with rooting and modding. then maybe u can get clockworkmod on there and from there do a dirty flash of MeanROM or or CM9. there by flashing over the lock screen and pattern while keeping data.... this should be a last resort...
If he has his own computer you could try loging into his Play store and instal an app called : Screen Lock Bypass (search it on Play store).
If this doesnt help then your best luck is to search on Google "bypass android pin lock" and hopefully you find some methods.
And good luck to your brother i hope he gets better. =)
I was able to figure out his yahoo password which allowed me to reset his gmail password! I got his contacts. Thanks!
Anyway I will try to unlock the phone later when this all settles down so one of his sons can at least use it. (Their Mom passed away last summer, they are in their early 20's)
Thank you so much guys!

My attempt at disabling all weather / pres alerts

What I've done is use "Systemapp Remover" app to disable the messaging app. Then I installed Go SMS Pro for texting.
We'll see how it goes, hopefully no more stupid forced messages...

I just went into the stock messages app, went into the settings and chose emergency alerts. From there I unchecked all of them except the presidential one because that one is grayed out. That got rid of all the Emergency Alerts which were very annoying.
Ya that's cool. I just feel that I don't know what a pres alert is, and I don't want to find out. That's just me.
Unless,of course, it would be something completely honest...like:
ALERT: We just shipped thousands of guns and grenades to a Mexican drug cartel, be aware if you are near the border.... (True story BTW, it's called 'fast and furious'.

Except they'd never tell you about it, and deny it standing on a stack of bibles after they did it.
I wouldn't mind getting a weather alert via sms (except we never get dangerous weather here, and you can't forecast earthquakes and volcanoes), I certainly don't want any of the presidential alerts.
Presidential alerts might be a good thing, but the user should have the option to disable them.
