I've had enough of the evo 3d suck threads. So I decided we need a thread that only says nice things. When ever I buy something I look it up online in places like this and I'd imagine a lot of people have decided not to get the 3vo because of all the bashing threads.
I had a evo 4g before this and I think this phone is better in every way(except the new aspect ratio) it sips the battery, is super fast, my 3d works amazingly well, and has a dedicated camera button.
I ditched sense 1.0 on my 4g but 3.0 is surprising well done and slick. Some things like the low internal memory wizard and notification pulldown come to mind right away.
So what other good things does everybody else have to say?

Well, i really want to love this phone...and i reeeaaally hope the problems, bugs and **** are gone if its released in the eu in august.
But well..crooked screens, camera hangs, no 3d menu...
But man i really love htc sense and all its goodies, the screen resolution, the camera quality, the Beautiful design and the led notification led, all wich the optimus3d does not have.
I think the htc is for me, but only if htc fixed all the **** we have now.

I have SERIOUSLY contemplated returning this phone (and was going to) and wait for sgs2
but after reading..they are having just as many if not more typical samsung, and non-typical issues it seems.
to top it all off the US SGS2 may end up with a tegra anyway which...im not sure on benchmarks, but i know its the samsung cpu pulling the big numbers..
even the battery life is being wrecked on the new ota I guess.
I have no real complaints on the evo 3D, I've had no problems with it (except 1 dead pixel that doesn't bother me)

having sense as an option is great..
and we'll have to wait and see if we get limited at all with the unlock coming up (sucks waiting) but honestly...the main reason I rooted my EVO was because it was sluggish...no problem on the 3D..so while I want to tweak..I can wait.
so yeah..i think ill end up keeping it.

i love the hell out of the phone, but still no signs of data working properly. i can barely get 100kb/s. i'm having a hard time taking it back and chicken out saturday. i think i'll be taking it back tonight... not fault of the phone, it's sprint's service. i won't be locked in for 2 years with sub par service. i'll still be keeping my sero plan for now on me evo, but if no improvements are made soon i'll TOL.

I keep hearing this...
I can't help but ask..are you guys doing PRL updates, or hard resets, or updates? It's very possible that they address this issue.. I can't say for sure, But I had some data issue's before I took the latest update...it wasn't slow tho, it just wouldn't connect.

i've updated the prl and tried in multiple cities. one city i did get 1.2 Mb/s yesterday, so it's not the phone's fault, but sprint's.
congestion is no excuse. i don't pay for them to come up with excuses on why my service sucks. i pay them to find solutions for services/needs/wants.
in my home city we have 3 towers only one is accessible from my house, verizon phone gets 600kb/s - to 1.2 Mb/s, the sprint phones are only getting 20kb/s - 100kb/s. all connected to the same towers. the other towers give the same results. in the weekend i was in a bigger city, at 1:00AM on saturday - full 5 bars, 120kb/s. 3g on verizon 1.3Mb/s and 17Mb/s on 4g.
also, on the tests it didn't show i was roaming.

If I.was you I would exchange it..I had similar problems and went and got it switched out..still have some bad speeds at times..but its been a lot better..its weird ..somedays I can get good 3g in a certain area and then the next day it will be terrible in that same spot..
I love my E3D a lot.
Definitely has some crazy bad bugs, but I do believe they will iron out. Patience is a virtue.
1. Every once and a while I get the camera lag issue. Take a picture, preview shows, then actual picture shows (usually blurry) after you move phone.
2. Slow and nonexistent data at certain times.
Those are the only real dealbreakers for me so far.
Otherwise I love the damn thing!
1. 3D is actually really fun and taking pictures with it is a blast.
2. Phone feels fast and plays all the games I wasn't able to play on my 4G.
3. I prefer AOSP, but Sense 3.0 has proven the best of all the overlays.
4. I believe this phone has a bright future and will only get better with time.

EVO 3D has a 1,730 mAh battery, and with moderate use like calling, text messaging, emailing, browsing the web, and downloading a few apps (all on 3G, mind you), I was able to make it into the evening before the phone powered down. It's not the most impressive Android on the block in regards to battery life, but it should get you through the day. Kick on 3D or 4G though, and you're looking at a dramatic reduction in battery life.

Call quality is clearly not the focus of this device. The earpiece volume is loud, but I find that the wireless radio struggles in areas where the Samsung Nexus S 4G and HTC EVO 4G don't. Sprint is mediocre at best in my office, and the EVO 3D has trouble holding on. While standing in the same place, I regularly rotate between zero, one, and two bars of service.

Wow that screen looks nice. As for it showing a different number of bars then the other phones, meh. That doesn't mean much since they all use different ways of coming up with what a 'bar' means. Apple was getting slack for not having enough bars so they simply changed the algorithm to show more of them. lol
What would be nice is a side by side of the Evo 3D, an EVO 4G and a Nexus S all doing a speedtest with the same server.
I don't think people can call foul play anymore. Looks like the 3D is getting hit with problems from everyone. Oh well, I'm still getting this phone and have 30 days on what to do with it. If it sux, I'll just go back to the Nexus S cuz that phone was a great phone with incredible battery life.

LOL as if those are sprints speeds everywhere. I get 8 mbps regularly and I'm definitely getting this phone. Allowing a review from a location not where you live to cloud your judgement without seeing for yourself is called ignorance.

I dont think people were calling foul play, just pointing out that a couple of reviews (gizmodo and engadget) were incredibly negative and obviously biased. We've hear from numerous sources that the call quality isnt great though this is the first I have heard of slow data speeds, perhaps they are using a radio from Samsung... Nonetheless, positive or negative, there are some incredibly biased reviews floating around.
We may be ignoring the signs, but I will still get this phone anyway!

Its not just bars though, xHausx. Call quality and signal reliability have been reported to be very bad. Thats a legit concern for those of us who need our phones to actually work as a phone.
I'm going to be waiting to see about this before I commit to the phone.

It didn't seem to slow sales of the iPhone... Seriously though, I agree if it doesn't work as a phone or for data (*cough* Samsung *cough*) than it certainly isn't worth owning.
My wife's Evo Shift was getting speed test results like that. It was only connecting to towers at 1X. I changed the CDMA mode to "automatic", and now it gets 2mbps in speed test. Makes me wonder if the 3d doesn't have the same issue.
I found the problem using a app called OpenSignal maps. When looking at the tower connections, it showed 1X on all of them.

Another first impressions report.
Not saying that they're completely wrong, just saying that I find any "first impression" video -- good or bad -- to be questionable at best.
All we know from these is that call quality and signal reception is variable. Who'd of thought?
I guess these do show us that the 3VO isn't perfect, or even spectacular in its radio performance. But neither is any other phone on the market that I know of.

Yeah, I noticed a lot of people were saying the calls didn't sound very good. I'll still be getting one regardless but hopefully it's something that can be fixed easily.

Technically, yes, because he was using the 3G radio. Also, technically, those speeds would not fall under the 3G "range". 200kbps sucks.
its a good thing you quoted that he gets the worse service in his office, yea so much for those speeds. Other reviewes have said the phone gets 6-8mb in good 4g areas, which I am in. I could care less if someone with no coverage got ****ty speeds.
80% of the review reported great data speeds. is this thread based on someones review who gets no coverage in his officre, really?
As for call quality, the good reviews have also said in good coverage areas the call quality will most likely be fine. I am sure if there is a wide issue they will adress it in an OTA. I mean it is probably using the same chip as original evo so probably the new radio for senes 3.0, hopefully they will sort it out. I haven't heard anyone say it is really bad, unless they are in really bad coverage area.

LOL at the 'biased' Engadget review. The same reviewer that gave the original EVO a 9 out of 10.

For all the thin-skinned Evo 3D fanboys (I'm actually one of them, just not thinskinned):
1. there will be a slew of additional internet reviews this week. (just saw one)
2. they'll validate the same issues that we've already seen (just saw that)...(non have said btw, that its NOT a superb device y'know!).
3. It doesn't mean the site is 'biased'.
4. People here will evaluate, speculate, and express concern about the flaws...this is a PLACE for that.
Its just as valid as people a year ago expressing joy over the 4G also BASED ON REVIEWS...(which, btw overlooked launch issues...biased?)
Speculation is PART of the process/human nature.
5. Allow them to DO that and if you don't want to respond constructively, let them moan...skip the thread...its ok...it'll be over in 6 days.
6. Many a device has been released with similar launch issues and ended up being an awesome device.
7. The Evo 3D WILL be an awesome device.
Well if the poor call signal is true it will be going right back.I have read the 3D reviews and i really do not care about those but when people give a review that says you need to be in a strong sprint signal area then i have a problem cause the EVO worked fine in my home while older phones like the 8330 and rant would go to roaming.
In the end it is a phone and if it can't do that well then it will be a fail for me.

That's why I asked. I'm done with speculation and trying to decode these "reviews" (aka first impressions for most). But, if he's seen one I've missed that has real data and testing in it, I'm happy to see it, whether it's good news or bad.
RS had 1 and the call quality did stink compared to the evo signal was just not good.I hope this gets fixed

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand your comment. Are you saying that you had the opportunity to test one at your local Radio Shack and that, compared to your current EVO, the signal meter was less and that the call quality was noticeably worse, again comparing to a call from your EVO at the same location?
If so, did you determine the signal strength by the bar display, or did you try something like SpeedTest or get a numerical signal strength? Just wondering if the difference is qualitative for you or quantitative. Thanks.
Everyone is worried this phone will turn out to be a typical Samsung phone, I have faith in HTC, whatever glitches or problems the phone might have at launch im sure will be fixed by updates. This will probably be sprints new flagship phone, and HTC didn't build a reputation by selling junk.

Well, for me, it's not about faith, it's about having a functioning handset. I don't need to upgrade from my EVO right now, I want to upgrade. If the EVO 3D needs work to become a reliable upgrade from my EVO, then I'll let it back and ignore my tendencies of being an early adopter. If, however, there is insufficient proof of problems, I may delay my purchase until HTC can make good, or prove that it can't.

I was under the impression that all RS's had the Airaves in them. All the Shacks I have ever been to I have had spectacular call quality. Even in cities where I generally have crappy cell signal.
Im just board with my EVO, I've done about all there is I could do with it. Im so ready for something new.

No Airaves. But some stores do have 4G repeaters. Regular signal is at the mercy of the network in the area.
I was in the same boat as you. I'm perfectly content with my EVO. Getting my upgrade a full year early with the ability to turn in my EVO for 150 or sell it for 200+ just sealed the deal. I'm doubting there will be many performance differences in the real world between my evo and 3vo until there is real dual core support in the OS.

I've observed that for the last couple of days you've been rather preoccupied with finding exact data on this phone, and more specifically comparisons of exact data between this phone and one or more other phones. I don't know that you're gonna have much luck on that at this early stage ... the phone isn't even released yet. It would seem to me that your safest bet would probably be to simply postpone your decision to purchase any phone until the 3VO is released, and you can then at least get quick and easy access to truly massive quantities of empirical / anecdotal / subjective observations from all of the new users here and everywhere else. You still probably won't have any more raw comparative data than you do now, but at least you'll have a lot of users' opinions, which is more than you've got now.

Honestly I am not trading in my evo right away. If I like the 3d in a couple of weeks I will make the sale then.
If the 3d doesn't make it 8 hours at work (mostly in my pocket) which I am able to do with my Evo, it will go back.
If the SGS11 comes out in a month and people LOVE it on sprint (including battery life) it may go back. There is a lot of what ifs, but I am hoping for a great phone that lives up to the Evo's high standards.
How it makes calls is important to me.If the call signal is weak back it goes.
Well guys after four days with my 3vo I got to say f### the engadget review every day I love out just a little bit more just a little bit more, I gave it a kiss goodnight last night. The fps on n64iod super smash brothers is straight up ridiculous........ We did a side by side test today evo vs 3vo same game started the evo first and the 3vo finished the intro to ssb when the evo was about half way through. Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!! manuelly installed netflix today.... It works!!!!! Yes, sadly the 3d makes me dizzy ... Oh f### ing well dude not crying what so ever.
A for battery life, if the reviewers knew anything about task killers they would have said very things about the battery life. Made it all day today with just bluetooth and 4g on all day...... Be prepared to by a case, it was made to have one and the kickstand is only available on a case... Once again, not f### ing crying what so ever..... Can't wait until they release the ota to unlock the bootloader.

Im curios to know how many people will take back their Evo 3D if no root method is found within their first 30 days. Im still debating myself, but I think this may be a way of getting Sprints attention. If there is a significant number of people who threaten to take theirs back, maybe Sprint will put the heat on HTC too.
I've threatened to but I am not sure that I will. Rooted or not this phone is ridiculously sick and I am having way too much fun with the 3D feature! I remain confident that HTC will get this done, perhaps with the 2.3.4 update.

I LOVED my EVO 4G, rooted with Myn's ROM Picked up the 3VO on Friday, was not super blown away at first, but now three days later, it is a more mature and refined EVO 4G, polished up in all the right places, and overall a better device. I like it over my ogEVO for sure, but it's not night and day better.
But seeing the reviews of the Galaxy S2, makes me think 99% I will go for that when it comes out. I am a sucker for the Super AMOLED+ screen, just go to an ATT store, check out the Infuse 4G, it uses the same screen tech, and instant boner looking at that beauty, the colors are jaw dropping, and viewing angles perfect.
Plus the Galaxy S2 is super ****ing thin, I am sucker for razor thin phones, they look so much more futuristic to me. And the design of it being an all black thin slab, just looks so cool. When Sprint gets it, it will be hard to resist.

Lets fact it not that many people will return this phone to have the impact you are looking for; the fact is it is not just a good phone it is a stellar. Even without root, this phone is one of if not the best on the market right now. I won’t get hung up on the root for now because I am sure either, HTC or the community will unlock the device.
I'm still debating as well if I should go back to the Evo 4G or stay. I do love all the new features, design, and speeds...but mess my rooted apps. I would also like to add some lockring and battery mods. I had a rooted Evo 4G with Sense 2.1 + 3.0 already (MikGv2.4) and mess the mods and themes. Hopefully HTC gives out the bootloader soon. If they do, then I'm definitely staying with my Evo 3D.

x2 on that new Samsung coming out... It seems very tempting to make the trade if HTC doesn't unlock these phones. I'm not really concerned with 3D. It's a cool 'wow' factor to friends but I personally don't really use it on my own. I guess when it gets closer to time for the new one to come out, I will make my decision then... Right now I'm leaning more toward sticking with HTC.

+1...I am SUPER impressed with this phone overall. The 3D turned out not to be too gimmicky, but rather awesome.

Learned this lesson a long time ago: never buy anything on a promise! I for one will not return it whether it gets root or not. I'll have a LOT more respect for HTC if they do unlock it, but me personally, I bought it knowing it was going to be locked. The "talk on the net" about HTC unlocking it via an OTA update is/was always just heresay. I also have confidence that whether they unlock it or not, eventually someone will pwn it.

I will stick with it. I am very satisified with the improvements root or not and i do not see anything much better coming out for quite some time. After testing many different android phones I can say this one has the best battery and features and i have tried many out from the G1, mytouch, hero, droid, evo4g, epic, thunderbolt, nexus s 4g. No phone is by any means perfect out of the box. It all comes down to if it works for you and gets you through the day.
27 days & counting. It is a great phone & a nice improvement from the original Evo but I can't see going any significant time without root. Plus I pretty much had my eye set on the GSII anyway. Figured I wouldn't loose anything from trying this out for at least 30 days.

mine went back today. too many little issues aside from locked bootloader.
and btw... sprint is trying to charge existing customers $35 restocking fee to return the EVO3D. you can get it credited back if you know who to call and ask for it
Only a few hours in but it already seems like a keeper to me. I like the improvements made and the only thing I miss so far is the hotspot unlocked. Even without root it's a really good phone so far. Kinda like the Evo's big brother.
Root will happen its just a matter of when. I got the phone Friday and i got to admit I was somewhat let down. After having it all weekend and it now being monday, I will not be going back to 4G. The 4G phone was probably one of the most enjoyable phones I have ever owned. Not 1 single complaint about it. But this phone has so much more potential. There are a few things I don't like such as charging port location, no seperate hdmi, but I can live with it. This phone is definately more advanced than the og evo. And i will always have a place in my heart for my beloved 4G but i am keeping this one.

Every launch phone usually has issues why do people expect them to always be perfect. IPhone couldn't send mms until like 2 years after it launched LOL. Hope some take it back and the sgs2 let's them dwn like all samsungs phones usually do.

I very specifically did not over-accesorize this phone, because while at the moment I'm enjoying the phone as it sits......There's no way I can keep this thing for 22 months without being able to theme it and flash custom roms.
After spending some time with her, i am sure now is not what i expected i am returning my wife.
1. Hard to look at. I have to spend time adjusting my vision just to look ar her.
2. Discharge quickly. Whe we wan to get intimate shes always tired.
3. Leakage. I wont go there.
4. Low signal. Sometimes i wonder if is ther is a brain in her.
5. Too heavy. Hard to get around.
6. Too much bloatware. Every time she speaks only junk comes out of her mouth.
I hope im still in my 30 days.

I can put up with all the s**t you mentioned. it's the intercourse fraustrate me.
not for one eyed people or 2 eyed people its 3d gives headache, 4g was the best after hd2 leo, i keep loosing my icons, overheats, can't watch movies over 1.5gb with native app, 2d camera is terrible, connection is like horrible here in Illinois regardless where you are, i have tested range in b/w schaumburg to downtown Chicago lake shore, no 4g what so ever! reception is terrible, does not read 16gb/8gb SD card well, back speaker is **** i had to download equalizer even though sprint told me not to download any system related apps, the flash light is not as powerful as 4gs, native video player crashes, 3d switch button does not switch to 3d mode from 2d mode at times. i went to return it and Sprint Sales coporate in Addison IL after testing my phone told me that " yeah i see, i see what you talking about, everything will be fixed with next update" "but sorry if you return it we can only give you refurbished Evo 4g" o' boy did i get screwed.

Well the time has come, I've had 12 replacements for everything from crooked screens, power buttons, bad radios, and random reboots. I called and got my $70.00 credit even though I was never promised one, free air rave just came in today but I can't take the s-on any longer. I'm getting the new Samsung even though its not even out yet and then I'm going to be so much cooler than all of you with your s-on . I SWEAR IF I SEE ANOTHER THREAD LIKE THIS I AM GOING TO **** MYSELF !!!!!

I'll be dumping mine too.
Overheating issues, constant 4g dropouts in a 4-5 bar area, way too many other things to list , (like absolute crap call quality.....absolute crap, and like....it's a PHONE).
I'll probably get a sgs2 also (already had a galaxyS1) because I just know SlamBungs better than I know HTC (hanoi transient crap?).

That's what I was getting ready to type. Did any of you read the last line? Lol. (I know some got it, but not most.)
I hate to join the poo-poo party but if we don't see some action soon I'm jumping ship to SGS2 ASAP as well. I got it, I loved it, I got board and fed up with the crap radio strength, jumped to NS4G...loved it besides crap radio strength....went back to E3D with best radio I have seen in one (which still ain't sayin much) love this phone again....now I have one with the best radio I have seen them with and I'm just flippin' bored....and that SGS2 screen (SAMOLED+) not being 16:9 is also gives teh huge bonar. Not to mention it's not sitting in development limbo.
...yeah, honestly, it's mostly about the dev limbo. Also we can't forget Samsung camera @ 8mp. The one in the NS4G was only 5mp (blah blah blah, I know, MP's ain't everything) and it took stunning pix.
This could all change with s-off or something happening soon, but, I'm just effing bored. Oh cool, a fast sense phone....bzzzzt.....soon to be baleeted.

Hey **** bird its called a joke, don't be so uptight. I'm keeping my phone, I love it.
The SGS2 for sprint went past FCC today and most likely with a 4.5IN screen.I love tall phones and if the 4.5 is true ill be way past happy with the SGS2 and i am also glad that after i sent the 3D back in the mail today i do not have to worry about Dev's holding or HTC holding S-OFF over me.
I did not only send it back because of the S-OFF i have other reasons but the whole S-OFF thing with leaked (yeah right leaked lol) youtube of s-off and HTC with there BS i am just glad it is over.And i am still reading the forum till my new phone gets here in 2 days.
Wish you guys the best with the 3D i would go back to it if all the other fail but that waits to be seen.

It takes stunning pics because of the sensor. You say you know, but you try to still justify it because of more mega pixels..

No, I never tried to justify it based on MPs. That is just icing on the already delicious cake...though past 5mp it's really diminishing returns...besides, that was not why the NS4G took stunning pictures. The sensor (and likely the lense) are of higher quality than HTC's (notoriously bad) camera setups.
...though the E4G had the same sensor as the Iphone4. Food for thought.

That was because the IPhone had better software (I.e post processing)... That and the sensor play a role.

I'm sure the lens also played a role in it. That seems like a very Apple thing to worry about. Frankly I'm shocked more mfgrs don't pay attention to it. A tiny amount of extra R&D and even tinier increase in cost would yield so much better results...
....but then that wouldn't afford them accolades. Then people just wouldn't ***** about it. People don't say anything when something performs up to their expectations, only when it doesn't. Some people would think this was more a problem with people's expectations than with the hardware or R&D process...I'm on the fence. Overly suggestive advertising does a lot to dissuade me from siding with the mfgr on that one...
