[Q] FM radio recording? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can SGS2 do FM radio recording? Do we need an app for that too?

I've been searching for an app which records FM-Radio for two years now (for my HD2) without success. Now I've got an SGS2 with the same request.
Please give me a tool which can record FM-Radio :-(

Yes, an app for FM Recording will be very useful. Is they any app like this available in the market?

Have you tried Tune in radio pro?

No.
I'm porting my FM app to Galaxy S and it should work on S2 also.
Reading through the service manual for the S I see it says "FM Radio with RDS / real time recording". But there's no such function I can see in the stock FM app.
To record digitally, you need FM audio in digital format. Most phones use a simpler, more battery friendly analog method.
AFAICT the Si4709 FM chip output appears to be analog only. Perhaps some ADCs could be used to digitise.

No call recording either Sigh! And they call these smartphones

Oh! btw Does the CM7 comes with the fm radio? (maybe some hacks can enable the fm)
The FM radio is physically disabled at the hardware level. No roms (e.g. CM7) or software hacks can fix it.

FM Radio Lacking RDS On 5.0

Hello
RDS works on my smartphone (froyo 2.2) but not with my 5.0 and this is a feature i miss
Is there anyway to add RDS to my 5.0 that doesn't require using wifi or 3g??
Spirit Fm works on my international G70 and adds RDS without internet connection.
Spirit doesn't seem to work on US version (5.0), wifi on or off.
After checking out that app, i'm left with the impression it's a "hardware" issue and not something correctable with software. Oh well, i do really like the native radio app - it just would feel complete with RDS!
Using the app FM TwoO, the RDS is working fine (but the app is not very user-friendly).

Awesome - thanks
Only irritation is having to move back and forth from the favorites folder.
Does anyone know an app that can "EQ" the "radio" or "all system sounds"??

DSP manager works well, but I found that I think it conflicts with GrooveIP. I don't use an equalizer enough to care, so I uninstalled it. It did work with the native player, Cubed, and native FM, when I tried it.
Thanks Tcat
Will have a look at that.

[Q] FM Radio & Bluetooth MOD

I wonder if any developer makes a mod of FM Radio & Bluetooth.
Wishing...
FM Radio works without 3.5mm Headphones.
FM Radio works in Airplane mode.
Bluetooth works in Airplane mode.
Remove Low Battery restriction.

FM Radio works without 3.5mm Headphones. Depends on Hardware modification. The headphone actually acts as the antenna.
Other features are very much possible. I think a custom developed FM and BT apk will solve the issue
I have backup from some non-brand Chinese Android devices. I will test those and let you know.

Tested the FM app in my Galaxy SII. Unfortunately it couldn't find any FM channels. May be the reason is, SII does not have a metallic cover. The signal strength is quite good in my area.
I don't know why, even after plugging the headphone jack the app couldn't find any channels. But the default app found all the available channels in my area.
Have you tried any of those?
galaxy 250s dont works .you can help?

On GS2, FM and Bluetooth are not connected. It uses an Si4709 FM chip (which was removed for the US/Canada variants.)
My FM app can work without earphones/antenna and without low battery issues. Not sure about airplane mode but I think so.
But the above requires a rooted device so my app can work with the low level driver. Without root my app supports the Samsung API and thus inherits it's restrictions.
But so far my app hasn't been tested much on an S2, just my S. AFAIK, on CM7 my app has no audio, but other functions work OK.
Any possibility yet?
Phone: XXLQ5 (Android 4.0.4)
Modem: XXLQ6
Kernel: Siyah 3.4.1

use shazam to find music played on radio

hi everybody,
there is something about the sgs2 which bugs me. on my old nokia i used to listen to fm radio and use shazam to find songs. when i try this on the sgs2, it says something like the microphone is in use by another application. Is it just me or is this a common problem?
i think you should try to use SoundHound. it is in my opinion much superior than Shazaam. cheers

i guess that something is kinda wrong. i think maybe a wipe should be done by your part. but how to find which app or anything else is using your mic?
is your mic working during calls and voice recording?
this is very strange.

so, i connect the headphones, to have the radio working. and here's what soundhoud says: soundhound is unable to detect a working microphone. another app may have locked the microphone.
and shazam says: couldn't tag music.
everything else works fine, and they can tag music if i have the headphones not connected to the phone.

i have never triedn to tag music with headphones on. maybe it is in all devices and the device can only use the inbuilt mic to tag. i have to check this.
but i can't tonight. tomorrow i will and let you know.

you are probably right, but in this thread we are looking for a solution to tag music from fm radio.
I too had the same error when trying to tag music using either Shazam or SoundHound.
What I think is whenever we start the FM radio, the phone jams (not the correct term, but I guess you got my point) the microphone from usage by any other applications. And both these apps are dependent on the microphone to tag the music. So both fails and gives the error.

If FM record was possible, with the given ROM and libraries, then in theory Shazam or whatever should be able to work with FM.
Is there an FM record function in the stock app ? Or does a common recorder app record FM ? I only have an original Galaxy S and this doesn't seem possible, but the schematics indicate it should theoretically be possible for the audio libraries and/or kernel driver to support this. But that's just theory...

Recording from the FM Radio App?

Hello Good People,
Is there a way to record what your listening to while using the FM Radio.app?
It would be cool to setup recording and listening to a show later without having to do the digital streaming from a website.
I want to open the FM Radio.app, set the station, and somehow record what is being heard.
Any advice?
