Just something to try if you're using the perma-temp root. Grab Autokiller and set it to ultimate (and just for ****s and gigggles, I did the UI optimization that increases homescreen events to 60), and you'll immediately notice less RAM usage and further battery life.
It's pretty awesome
And no, Autokiller is not a task manager (although it can be used as one).
Findings:
250,275,300 Seems to be the most stable if you multitask a lot.
300,325,350 is for those of you who are like me and don't need to multitask (single app at a single time kind of user).
You can go higher, but be careful. For a test, I like to set it higher, turn off the screen, wait a bit for the minfree settings to close off apps, and then text yourself from another phone or from GVoice. If you recieve it, those values are good (depending on your phone usage). For me, as long as the messaging app can stay open and not get killed off, I'm perfectly happy.
Also, at the second set of values (the higher ones), I'm noticing a distinct speed and smoothenss increase in the Rosie carousel as well as the notifications pulldown.

Well, right now, I have about 320 MB of free RAM. I get that "free RAM" is a performance myth, and that unused RAM is useless. But the benefit for me is less battery is being used.

Keep in mind that the higher you go, the less stable multitasking will be. I'm kind of a "single app at a single time" kind of user, so I can afford to go quite high. For instance, if you set it really high, and start listening to music, and then go into your Gmail app, there's a chance that the music app might automatically be killed off.
Homescreen Optimization setting? That's not in this all is it? So how does that go. I'd like to try that one too.

That's why in the advanced section, you make it apply the tweaks after 2 minutes, which should be enough time to get it all temp-rooted again

Had to push mine from Ultimate to the next step down. Sense was having to reload into memory sometimes.
we'll see how that works. it was nice seeing 250mb free though. lol not sure how much battery it actually saved. have to test that tomorrow.

OK, I have written an app to attempt and stop call wonkyness on CM7 builds. Specifically the phone locking up when making and receiving calls.
It's my observation that it's the mic that causes the phone to lock up and so this app opens and closes the mic every minute to keep it "fresh". It's a long shot, but I can't seem to duplicate wonkyness with it enabled so I'm posting it for other to try.
Now after a few positive comments to help boost my confidence in the app, I've made it's own thread to make it easy to track comments.
Just install and run (or just reboot as it auto-start on boot). To disable, uninstall it.

Made service more persistent by adding notification bar. Turns out, Android was killing off the service when memory was running low causing wonk to surface.

Currently I can't see any measurable battery drain. Dewonkificator doesn't even show on the About phone->Battery use screen. Increasing the time between dewonkification might be work, but since battery doesn't seem to be a issue and we don't know what the source of the problem is I don't think its worth risking or investigating.
I also believe it have something to do with the mic, since all apps that use it have the same freeze, and it seems to work for me. Thanks

Maybe watchdog would be a better app for checking. Would give us a better idea of CPU use. Also juice plotter may help see prior and after install battery consumption
I've tested it,and havent got any wongkiness for today. I think its working...

This bug is the reason I got off CM7 nightlies, so damn annoying. Maybe this is a Gingerbread thing rather than a Nexus S problem cause the Nexus S is supposed to be rebooting itself while in calls as I'm sure everyone knows.

Currently I have setcpu ondemand and a profile to get the cpu at 256mhz when the screen is off.
What else can I do.

yeah It works just fine for that profile.
Download and buy Titanium Backup Pro and use the app to freeze all the bloatware you don't want running. Stuff like Peep, Blockbuster, Bitbop, CityID, etc. I haven't rooted this one yet, but my old Dinc and DPro showed significant battery life gains when I froze these bloat apps that just seem to always be running. Backup Assistant is another culprit if you aren't using it.
I actually renamed the files using Root Explorer and moved to SD and backed up on my pc, so Titanium wasn't having to intervene all the time to keep them frozen.
I would suggest running Das BAMF Rom v 1.1. Since installing it I've noticed a nice increase in battery performance as well as a snappier phone.

I would recommend droidwall, its helped my phone out immensely. You can stop your phone from sending out data constantly. That is what I found helped me out the most.

Two apps one call network This will allow to cut the 4g off and use 3g. The next app is system app remover cost around two dollars. Lets you remove any app. You should remove blockbuster first. Next get super power beta, it's free. I'm geting 20+ hours with moderate use.

Install a ROM that doesn't have all that bloat on it.
I renamed all of the bloatware apps to .bak and rebooted.

Alright I tried this out already. You just have to follow the instructions, and also don't use other memory apps like auto killer memory optinizer, or task killers like advanced task killer. It really makes your phone run more smoothly.

You need busybox 1.18.2 or lower for this script to work properly. Below is the Market link to busy box installer. Thank LibertyMonger for suggesting to me to add this into the OP!

In the script manager, its a little like using terminal or command prompt. Just load up the txt and run as root. They will ask you to choose your scrolling speed (just type 0 so the text appears fastest inside the script manager) so you have to tap the screen for the keyboard to appear. You need the on screen keyboard to choose the presets too. Just choose one of them. I chose option 2 (aggressive setting 2) and currently my phone feels very fast.

Long term heat will damage your processor. Obviously if OC'd at 1200 and running intensive apps, your temp will shoot up. SetCPU or any other profile mgr has profiles to ramp up or down you CPU speed accordingly. I have run 1100/74 sinceI first installed MSOC but I have SetCPU profiles to throttle it back when I don't need that much power and speed.

Yeah I use setcpu as well but only for temperature. I let it run natural otherwise. But like i said, I have been on so many ROM's and I like to put them to the test so I have been at 1200 since march for the most part and never have any overheat issues. No reboots. And if it does burn up I have a year and a half left on my warranty lol. CBW gives 2 year warranties. I don't need it clocked that high, it will run well at 800, I just like to put it to the test. And being at 1200 on the special now has made the biggest difference out of all that I have tried. But of course haven't tried it long enough to really compare with cm6.
Seems like 1200 since march is pretty much long term lol. My phone is still like new!
Anyone tried this yet? Any comments?

No. It is for a variety of phones with different OS. He started of by creating it for the milestone and then made it universal.

Backup and try. You can even undo its effects as it backs up the files it modifies. Ask Zepp about the best settings for your phone by giving your phone details.

Very easy to apply and run. It's a little difficult to weave through Zepp's writing, but essentially it boils down to this:

Alright, coming from WM way back to an iPaq, as soon as I got an android I got task killers, especially as I watched my memory go down to like 40 megs.
After reading I am deciding to remove any (excluding ZDBox) task killers that I have, and see if Android really does manage memory well.
I have to admit that when I did notice my launcher running slow, I would kill tasks and it would pick back up. Anyways....
I have one question - I am running Juice Defender, that doesn't kill tasks, just manages wifi, and the radio, right? Its ok to keep that going?
I am running a rooted TB with BAMF SoaB with GoLauncher as my home.
Any input on this would be appreciated!
JuiceDefender does no task killing, just deals w/networking as you said. The only reason a task kller would be necessary is a misbehaved app that wakes up often and burns processor cycles - Android reclaims memory when needed (a built in task killer, if you will). If you have a less-than-popular app, it might have such a problem, but popular apps get enough scrutiny that they should not be burning cycles and should not need to be killed.

I completely agree for juice defender. It helps on "saving your battery", not on managing app on background.
You could try Advanced Task Killer. it's a good one. I used it on my I9000 when i had a Gingerbread rom and it worked great

You indicate its easy, but I have zero knowledge about this kind of stuff. I will be going over the instillation instructions, but want to be sure that if I screw something up in the setup, It will be easy (battery pull) to start over?
Also, I am running a rooted phone with a CPU speed setting, and have overclocked it to 1400, will this V6 do the same, or is it a completely different setup?

at the first time it maybe cause a bootloop(stuck),so pull out battery and boot again,so better not run it on boot,if its working(no bootloop) then you can set it to run on boot so you have permanent setup,and you can unsupercharger if you dont like it,it doesnt touch your clock speed,it just playing with ram and out of memory things,dont worry bout setting it,it will suggest for you..

Would be interested to see if it helps others as well.
I removed panels from my home screen and it seems to have improved mult-tasking.
I personally don't need 7 panels...
Simply click the home button to get to the panel browser, long-press a panel and drag it to remove.
Does this help with anyone else or am I imagining things?
I have it set to only five panels and so multi tasking isn't any better.

Every little thing you do helps with memory. Live wallpaper? Memory, around 30MB. Widgets? Each widget takes up memory. I've had 1x1 brightness widgets take up 2MB each time. They'll add up.
So you can remove screens, remove those big ass HTC widgets, and keep things lean and you will save memory. Every bit counts on this phone because HTC has screwed it up.
To clarify, since you seem to think HTC screwed up, this phone has plenty of RAM. THAT isn't the issue with this multitasking. They made it too aggressive. I've heard that they fixed it on the One X, and I'm sure they'll apply a similar fix to us. And custom ROMs have fixed those problems as well. It isn't a hardware issue, it's a software issue.

Well reason cause the apps keeps closing so fast is not cause of the ram left, is because the way the phone saves more battery it kills apps like Facebook that used too much ram, I remember on OG evo days we did this too to make sure our phone lasted a full day or close to 12 hours now the htc did it everyone is piss and want them to "fixed it", anyways I do find it annoying sometimes but I feel like going back home and launch the app is much better then using recent apps sometimes ,
It would be nice if they gave u the option..I'd sacrifice some battery life if a panel would stay open without a reload within literally 10 secs..it def ruins multitasking..all multi tasking does now is bring u back to the app u were using and starting over ..
It's sad to say that HTC has implemented worst multitasking than even the iPhone has.

It's both. There's not much available RAM at bootup because of all the extra crap HTC has put in there. And then on top of that, its overly aggressive app killer options. And then on top of that, its data/background process pause/kill for everything else.
But the RAM thing definitely doesn't help. All I know is when I boot up Sense 4 or boot up CM9 there's 150 on S4 and 390 on CM9 of free RAM. The other stuff hurts too, but RAM being low to start with (about 100MB less than the EVO 3D thanks to video memory) makes it worse.
For those saying "this phone has plenty of RAM" you're right if you never boot up. But once it boots up, 300 of it is gone for video RAM. The original 4G had about 100 go to that, and the 3D had about 200. So "plenty of RAM" means 700, which isn't a ton when you see how much Sense and HTC fills it.
I agree there is a multitasking problem and to bad HTC didn't have foresight to need a extra 512 of ram even... However I have grown use to the multitasking and while it is bad to a point doesn't bother me to much.

I'm not seeing the problem here. If you back out of an app with the back button, Android kills the app; if you leave the app by pressing the home button, it retains the app. For the last week and a half or so, I've been reading A Game of Thrones via the Kindle app and press home to leave it every time. Whenever I fire it back up, it's right back on the page I left. I don't play any demanding games on my phone so I'm not sure if RAM is a bottleneck in that instance, but these phones aren't exactly staved for memory.

It varies on the app. Browsers use much more and will trigger it quite a bit faster than most things.
It must certainly be dependent on the app, because I'm developing my own App and while testing I'm noticing that the tasker is not killing it. I can hit the home screen and be away for multiple hours, and open the app back up, and I will be at the same activity (screen) I left off at.
I meant it varies depending on what other apps you use. If you use apps that are all 30 mb it might take a bit. But open a browser and do 3 tabs or 1 tab with flash content and you'll have your old apps close.

Totally agree. It's very frustrating in my opinion.... Hopefully there's a fix soon for this.
