Do not rsd!
Once you have tried ota, rsd-ing might lead to hard brick.
Please don't give random advises.

These are some need to know questions before I or anyone else can assist you in your problem.
1) What version are you on!??? 1.2.6, 1.5.7, 1.8.3, 2.3.4??
2) Have you ever unlocked your bootloader?? <---- THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW!!!
IF YOU HAVE UNLOCKED YOUR BOOTLOADER THEN FLASHING A .SBF WILL RESULT IN A HARDBRICK.
IF YOU HAVE NEVER UNLOCKED YOUR BOOTLOADER THEN THE ONLY WAY TO GET A FRESH INSTALL IS USING A .SBF

OK well this is gonna be easy,
Flash the 1.2.6 ATT US found HERE and upgrade via WiFi updater to 1.5.7 then 1.8.3 then to 2.3.4.
To use RSDlite (or for further details look HERE);
Charge to FULL battery <---- IMPORTANT
Start up the RSDlite program
Turn off phone, Remove SD-card, Remove SIM card and turn back on holding the power button and volume up key until it says "Starting RSD protocol support"
Plug your phone into the usb port and RSDlite should say "Status: Connected…"
Load the 1.2.6 SBF in the RSD and click start.
May take from 5-10 minutes Do NOT pull battery during this time or unplug until it says 100% complete
If you have any other questions please ask here or shoot me a message. Happy Flashing!!

Thx all of you guys, i will try it tonight(in hong kong right [email protected]@so hot!) Hope will be success to 4.5.91!!

That I cannot be a 100% on as I used to install a fresh SBF before an upgrade. But now that we have custom ROM's I do not worry about those things anymore
I would assume yes, just to be on the safe side, and if you do change the boot animation just backup the original so if you do have problems upgrading OTA then you can simply put it back.
Don't forget to hit the Thanks button!

What should I do

Hi guys;
I want to update my Atrix, but I don't know what path to take?
a) Through the OTA 4.5.91...
b) Unlocking the bootloader, and then upgrading to GingerBread via Custom Roms...
I really need your help, because I am a newby in this whole area...

Depends what you want to do with your phone. If you like testing out custom roms and stuff then go the way of unlocking the bootloader and flashing one of the custom GB roms. If you want a stock phone with some minor root modifications then flash ota and root. Just beaware if you do the ota build you cannot flash back to froyo (not sure why anyone would but just to warn you)

can you refeer me to the posts where I can unlock the BL and then install a custom Rom
Yeah I am on 4.1.83 and Android 2.2.2.
I want to upgrade as well. Everything is stock currently.
I want to be able to do Cynogen later so I think I need to unlock and flash a custom rom.
So I am like the op and need to know where to go. There is so much argument and misinformation on this forum my head hurts. Just read for an hour and am more confused.
All I know is i dont want to do the OTA update lol!
HOwever I downloaded it already and my phone keeps asking me to install it...
DOes anyone know how to remove that?
Well, first, I suggest you do NOT flash the OTA update.
I recommend that you use the Pudding file in the Development sub-forum to unlock your device. There are video and text guides floating around how to unlock.
If you're not wanting to try out any ROMs yet, I suggest Kenneth's ROM. It's the OTA update, except without the risk of hard bricking if you ever need to flash down.
If you are all feeling adventurous, you could flash an Overclock kernel (I recommend Faux's 1.1GHz OC). You can also flash Ninja ROM v0.4.5. It's super fast.
@mercilus if you freeze the FOTA app in Titanium Backup, I think that stops it.
Here's the guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1167373
@artemalek I see that you're on 1.5.7, that means you have an AT&T branded device. You'll need to flash the AT&T version of Pudding for your unlock.

I just followed the directions and RSD said it failed and gave me an error. I accidently hit show phone and it erased the error message but it was something about error at restarting.
Now my phone wont turn on? When I hit the power button/hold it all I get is blank screen.
It doesnt try to turn on or anything?
Did i mess up the phone permanently? crap... just what i was trying to avoid..
any advice?
How full was your battery? And if your phone was hard bricked, you'd be seeing an error.

Battery was at like 80% when I last looked. So it was more when I started, and I did not leave the phone watched the whole process up til the point where it wont turn on anymore. So I doubt it lost all that battery in that brief 5 minute time.
Its been plugged in since still and no response from power button.
Everything was completely stock when I started.
Update: I just noticed when I take out my battery and plug in the charger I do get a green light as long as battery is out. When I put it in and plug in I get no lights. Not sure if thats helpful or means anything... (Just noticed its only with the USB charger I get the green light and not AC charger. The battery must be out)

[Q] Is my brick recoverable?

I get the message failed to boot 0x1000 Entering NVFLASH RECOVERY MODE.
I had installed Cyanogen Mod 2.3.4 and didn't like it at all and tried to flash the sbf to 2.3.3 . Now that I am reading it seems like a dumb move.
This message comes up when I turn it on and disappears quickly to remain at a black screen.
Is there anything I can do?

Yes, it was a dumb move. You should have read all the warnings that said NOT to sbf flash after bootloader unlock.
Anyway, now you need to SBF flash 2.3.4 with pudding and you should be good to go.
How can I flash sbf 2.3.4 if RSD Lite doesn't show anything? Or should I be using a different program like fastboot?
Do I just redownload the 2.3.4 cyanogen and install with the program you suggest? I am unsure how this will work because the computer doesn't beep or anything like that when I connect it.
Thanks for your help.

the only two sbf's that are safe to flash for people who installed the OTA update to gingerbread is the 2.3.4 sbf and the pudding sbf.
any others have the possibility of hard bricking your device, and nvidia hasn't released the nvflash program; therefor we're stuck at this step. no way to recovery from it.

Nvflash may never be released...
Rooting should never give you any problems. Unlocking the bootloader and putting on a custom rom just requires some reading and more reading beforehand but isn't too hard if you follow the instructions.

[Q] Unroot back to stock using RSDLite

Hi,
Could someone please help me? I'm trying to get back to full stock (well as close to it as possible) to either eliminate my problem or send back under warranty...my problem is detailed in this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500220&page=3# ...basically my Atrix just will mot stop randomly rebooting/locking up with the screen off (needing a batter pull).
I have tried running RSDLite 5.6 in exactly the same way I unlocked the bootloader but nothing seemed to happen...RSDLite went all the way to 100% but all my phone did was reboot normally. Weird thing was, I didn't get a reboot for nearly 24 hours....and then they started again, quite regularly. Did I do something wrong? I though that SBFing it through RSD would just reflash completely back to stock.
Also, in case I cannot get rid of this REALLY annoying problem, I want to hide the 'unlocked' text at boot ...how would I go about doing that?
Thanks,
Mark

If you're trying to go back to stock then you have to find the official SBF. It sounds like you're using the same files that you used to unlock it in the first place.

Use a Fruitcake or you will brick
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Please don't spread misinformation. Using RSD does not automatically result in a brick. I have used it numerous times flashing Official (AT&T) SBF builds and I am still using the same phone.
With that said, it is not recommended to use RSD (which I agree) but it can be used with caution and some knowledge/research in tow.
One precaution, do not flash previous builds (SBF).

[Q] Help possible vrick

Im really scared. I have an atrix rooted and unlocked. I had neutrino 2.7gt on it and due to being buggy I chose to flash ee, but did so as an update. It worked but then I had to format my sd card and re flash the addons and when i did i got stuck in a bootloop. so i tried to get into android recovery mode and now I just have a blank screen please help me.
Try flash a SBF Rom via RSD Lite. Take care, you must be careful. This is not a hard brick, so there is a solution. Tell me when you do it
How do i do that
This exact same thing happened to me with the blank recovery screen and boot loop, what I did to fix it was wiping my recovery via fast boot then flashed neutrino2.7 again using rom racer. It turned out that notorious posted a bad link to the rom that resulted in this.

Its recommended not to sbf flash, but seeing as you offered no alternative method, perhaps you should delete your post. I also have used sbf flash to recover from a soft brick and confirm it works. You will need the last firmware you use for stock.

Both of you:
Just because you flashed a SBF after unlock and didn't hard brick does not mean it's OK to do it. There are warnings all over the forums about flashing a SBF after unlock. You should NOT flash a SBF, plain and simple.
I won't delete my post. My post stands, The post prior to it recommends flashing a SBF. I need offer no alternative to tell the OP that this is bad advice!

Warnings against unlocking bootloaders.. did you stop at those warnings? Warnings about flashing custom ROMs, did you heed to those warnings as well? The only reason they SUGGESTED not to use rsd is because it runs the most risk! Your phone loses connection from your computer, you get hard bricked. Phone loses power during flash, hard bricked. Cwm is the quickest and safest (as is fastbooting) but doesn't mean you can't use rsd. Stop being a troll.

A nandroid backup is not an sbf file. Hard bricks come from flashing the wrong sbf file.

if you flash the sbf that matches the stock version you had prior to unlocking, you'll be fine. flash anything older than that, and you risk bricking.
standby for sbf link. will edit this post with link in a min or two

thanks again I have found my version and i am downloading it right now. but how to flash it? I need to enter rsd mode in my phone and through rsd lte? I've downloaded an gz file type. and inside it has ths sbf file, and RSD lite can use both types. I know that it sounds like stupid question but I only want to verify, I need to use the sbf file and not the gz right?

No problem. Search for RSD online, i'm running 5.7, but i think i was told by another user the other day that its up to 6.1 or something. reboot phone and hold vol up. it will display something about standing by for rsd support. connect phone to computer, let any necessary drivers install from device. then load sbf file into rsd, and after the drivers have installed, hit the detect for device button, and then flash the sbf to the device

i meant go online and search for rsd lite. your current install should be fine, but if you want to upgrade it you can.

no problem. one more thing. you may get an error message when you do it. if you flashed a different radio to your device, you need to follow the following steps first
Solved !
1. Copy Radio image (baseband) to the folder where located fastboot. 2. Power on phone and select fastboot 3. execute: fastboot flash radio bp.img, Where bp.img baseband image files 4. execute: fastboot reboot 5. Phone automatically boot on the android recovery mode 6. Wipe userdata/cache 7. Reload in RSD mode 8. on the RSD lite browse appropriate .sbf file and puch Start
Thats all.
