Favorite Keyboard App for Tablets - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Themes and Apps

I have been using Thumb Keyboard for a while now. Started 1.5 months ago when I had an Asus Transformer. I continue to use it on the Tab, and its now my keyboard of choice on my Evo 4G.
I have seen scattered posts in this forum and others regarding other Tablet friendly keyboards. I was wondering if anyone has used the various options available and have a clear favorite.
I like the Thumb Keyboard for the options to adjust dimensions of height & width, themes, and you can easily add/remove rows, change layouts from thumb to full, and 1 purchase works on phone and tablet.
But some of the others look very slick..... but operations and customization is important. No two hands are the same afterall.

I really like swiftkey (it has the option for a thumb or standard key layout). The predictiveness it provides is amazing.

+1 for swiftkey... also like that when i look for "android" he knows the second word will be "tablet"

+1 swiftkey

I also switched from Thumb Keyboard to Swiftkey X (for tablets). BASICALLY, they are both the same (style) and they both get the job done. Honestly Thumb Keyboard has many more "little" options to change things, but in all honestly they arent THAT useful (to me). All in all, they are both great. After using this keyboard style, I cant stand typing with the full normal (stock) keyboard.

Ya I switched. A little getting used to with the slightly different placing of some important keys, but getting used to it. I had to make spacebar a spacebar. It was driving me crazy at first. It needs to learn from me a while before I give the protective stuff ore control. Lol
Does anyone let it read your Gmail and facebook to read your 'style'?

I have used swype beta 3, swiftkey x (tablet), and thumb keyboard all on both my tab 10.1 and fascinate. In a million years I don't think you could get me to change from swype on the phone, but its honestly kind of garbage on the tab. Its a tough call between the other two for me. Swiftkey is amazing at predictions but I find myself really really missing the number pad, arrow keys, tab key, etc. all readily accessible. Ifswiftkeycan add some of that to their layout, they've got me for sure.

Thumb Keyboard is exactly what is needed to be the best keyboard for me! The amount of customizable settings make this keyboard fit you and you don't have to wait for it to fit you like Swiftkey... I have tried them all and always go back to Thumb Keyboard...maybe its the layouts or multiple themes but either way you can tell this keyboard will be here for awhile... also the dev is really on it for support...Thumb Keyboard +1

My default on all my devices is the FlexT9 Speak-Trace-Write-Tap keyboard. I mostly use its Swype-like functionality, but I can also type or have it do text to speech.
I missed it when it was free on Amazon, but I don't regret paying the $5 for it.

+1 for Thumb Keyboard, perfect for thumb-typing AND you can assign buttons for function keys and localized keys AND it has cursor keys

Alternative Keyboards

Unfortunately I don't have access to the swift key beta VIP and thus I am stuck with the stock keyboard. Are there currently any alternatives to the stock keyboard?

thumb keyboard by a large margin. Much more usable (at this point) than the swift key tablet beta.
the "tablet keyboard" is the best for me....

+1 for Thumb Keyboard. Quick buttons for the one-handed, normal qwerty, and split layouts are awesome.
Hacker's Keyboard is the way to go. Especially if you work with ssh sessions.
+1 for Thumb Keyboard! It works so well for me and you can change the layout to suit your own needs. If I remember right it isn't free but is well worth the money.

+1 for thumb keyboard when typing with two hands in landscape mode.
+ 1 for swype 3.0 when typing with one finger or stylus.

Addicted to swype on my phone and thumb keyboard on my tablet.
In landscape, the swype strokes are just too long to be practical for me. Thumb is very fast and convenient while holding the tablet with two hands.
In landscape mode, contract the swype keyboard size and then move it to either the right or left edge, then you can swype just as you would on your cell!
Hi Guys.
Does anyone know where to get a keyboard that supports croatian characters?

I don't know about Croatian but I use Hacker's Keyboard with Romanian layout and it's perfect for me.

I like swype on my phone, and used it on my 10.1 for a while. One thing I missed on it with a tablet was the precision of a regular keyboard. I've been trying thumb keyboard for the last couple of day, and I'm liking it a lot. Feels like I can write with some speed and precision.
Btw, this is pretty good Thumb keyboard practice.
I love this community !!! I wasn't looking for a new keyboard but I'm glad I read this post. I'll add that SlideIt is a good alternative Dvorak on android

+1 for "tablet Keyboard free" not sure why but I keep going to it as my default (currently have FlexT9 Keyboard, GO Keyboard, samsung keypad, swiftkeytablet xbeta, swiftkey, and thumb keyboard).
tablet keyboard has an amazing layout, the keys are perfectly spaced for me and is the easiest for me to use, huge downside is that it doesnt have predictive text or spell check. If swiftkey could use their layout it would be perfect. Swiftkey is my default on my Tbolt, but the tablet version sucks, the keys are spaced weird and you cant reach the numbers in the middle so I dont use it as much.

Swiftkey X

Anybody using the tablet version of swiftkey? if so, how do you like it?
Pretty much the same as Swiftkey X for phones, which is both good and bad. The good: the predictive text is still very good. The bad: in portrait mode, the use of the screen real estate could definitely be better. The key layout is definitely small in relation to the tab and so is not very efficient in using the lower part of the tablet in my opinion.
I'd still recommend, and the developers seem ok in putting out updates and improvements, so hopefully the implementation will continue to improve.
I use swype and smartkeyboard pro on my phone. A friend was telling me about swiftkey and I saw they have a tablet version. Right now I am using swype. If we ever get the flyer/view permenantly rooted I want to remove swype so I can try the new beta for tablets. I guess I will skip the swiftkey and stay with swype and the stock keyboard for now.
I have it for both my evo 3d and flyer.. I like it on my evo 3d coz it sizes up better. On the flyer it seems a little too small. I prefer and recommend thumb keyboard over this. Hth

I recommend smart keyboard pro for portrait typing. It has very good layout and free from bug for fast typing job. Right now, there are still many juga from swiftkey X, especially uncontrolled type "." problem even the feature has been disabled from the setting.

Hi.
I have the SwiftKey X on the Flyer, and have been disappointed. The word prediction is very good, but that is where the excitement ended. The keys are too small (for me) , and I keep hitting the space bar when I try to hit the lowest row of letters. There is no easy way to switch between two languages; the arrows can not be activated; and center numeric pad is missing in landscape mode. The "*" sign is missing from the numeric panel, so if you do a lot of number/ formula entry (in spreadsheets) it gets frustrating. I use the notes a lot, and here the keyboard does not work at all (keeps overwriting the same letter).
I think this keyboard has great potential, and people doing a lot of typing should be able to type faster than with the stock keyboard. For me however it feels half-baked, and more frustrating than fun.
I am using swiftkey on my nexus s and there it is by far the best Keyboard. I purchased it for the flyer as well and was disappointed, too. As said before, the screen could be used a lot better in Portrait. I switched back to the original Keyboard.

I reccomend trying thumb keyboard first.

Have, it was ok but I'd rather have the arrow keys. I'm using harkers keyboard on my transformer right now.
Another vote for thumb keyboard. I have both and, while the predictive functioning of Swiftkey is better, the superior layout and ability to customize size of Thumb Keyboard makes for an easier typing experience overall.

I too, have both, and agree with what you've said.
I was not able to use Swiftkey X Tablet on my Flyer under Honeycomb in Landscape, since what I was writing was not visible (same with Swype).
This is now solved since the 2.1.0.223 version, as I just discovered. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey.tablet.trial

I know this thread is old but I wanted to share about the languages, the reason I use swift is because I don't need to switch languages. It is great at figuring out what I mean from whatever language I am using, I have it setup for spanish and english and it's seamless in that I don't need to worry about it.
This is MUCH better than having to press a button and manually switching languages.
I find Swiftkey X Tablet to be wonderful on the Flyer and you can resize the keyboard to your desires in the settings. I only wish they would put the arrow keys htat are in the phone version back into the tablet version
SwiftKey is all I'll use (til something better comes out... Lol) I can't afford to buy both versions, so I use the phone version on my tab & phone, and it works great!
I "borrowed" the Tab version from a friend, and got kinda frustrated by it entering words for me after entering a period, then hitting space twice (proper punctuation).

That can be adjusted in the settings for Swiftkey X, under Advanced.

Im using swift on my samsung captivate but looking at the youtube video of thumb in action on the tablet I may have to use that on my flyer when it arrives.
looks pretty snazzy

Keyboard Preference

So I came from the Motorola Atrix, and I have to admit, the Multi Touch Keyboard on that was great. What keyboards are you using? The Android Keyboard seems too small and the Samsung Keyboard has no setting to stop vibrating.
Any way to port the Multi Touch Keyboard from Motorola devices?
I'm currently using the swype beta keyboard http://beta.swype.com/

I use Thumb Keyboard. I think it was mainly designed for tablets but you can customize it like crazy from font size to height. Use it for my SG2 and Xoom tablet. Best one in my opinion.

Tried SwiftKey X, which I like. Moved to A.I. type Keyboard. (<3 the Windows 8 Keyboard).

I really like this one. I was able to customize it pretty close to what the Mutli Touch Keyboard was like on the Motorola Atrix. I changed the height of the keys to 115% and it has been working pretty well for me. Not a lot of typos anymore. Thanks!
Using swype. Tried it a while ago on my xoom and hated it but since it came preinstalled on this I gave it another shot and have fallen in love!
Created a thread a short time back and myself along with many others seem to really like Smart Keyboard Pro. I was having a really tough time with keyboard accuracy and this program has a calibration tool to tweak it. Worked out great as I was on the verge of returning the phone...

I've tried a bunch of keyboards and this one is by far my favorite.
Just tried out Smart Keyboard (trial for now) and like it. I'm coming from a BlackBerry and am used to holding down a button for a capital letter... is there any Android keyboard that would allow a long press for caps?
AI Type is by far the best tap-style on the market.
Try Go keyboard, lots of setting, themes, swipe and in HD quality.

Anything ICS?
Thanks for your thoughts...

I've been us A.I. Type Tablet keyboard and loving it. awesome word prediction and I find their split keyboard to be easier to use since its smaller.

I also use Thumb Keyboard. It is extremely customizable, and I find myself using the hell out of the Quick Text shorcuts (the little "pin" icon).
You can also customize the size of the keyboard's keys in both height and width, with different settings for landscape and portrait orientation.
I really think Thumb Keyboard is the unquivocal best keyboard for Android tablets. I type supremely fast on it, faster than Swiftkey on my phone, and the quick text features really expedites filling repetitive stuff out online.
Smart Keyboard Pro... awesome. Has skins, and customizations up the azz.
Hacker's keyboard; without SMS learning I found SwiftKey not as good at completions as the stock android kb; and I prefer the symbols layout on hacker's.

I'm also using the thumb keyboard. I like holding the Prime in landscape mode and it's the only way to type without possibly dropping it.
Thumb keyboard is what I used briefly while I had my Primes. I didn't even realize it for awhile but I had gotten it free on Amazon. It is worthwhile to go through all those free paid apps of the day once in awhile.

Stock Keyboard

Is.it. just. Me but typing on.the stock keyboard suck? The space.key is too small.so when I hit the space bar. It leaves.a period.after every word. . Also what the hell are all those arrow keys for? I've gotten used to not needing a physical keyboard but with this phone I've taken a step back.
The arrows are for navigating the cursor within a block of text. For example, you need to correct the spelling of an email address, website url, etc and you don't want to backspace the entire word. With ICS it's a lot easier to tap and drag to where you want the cursor, but the arrow keys are there as an alternative. They were helpful back when the OG EVO released; now, not so much. As for the periods, are you sure you aren't double-tapping the space bar? Double-tapping on many keyboards will add the period for you.
I love HTC keyboards. So responsive and just the right size. And actually, as I'm typing right now on xda app, I don't see the arrow keys though I know they are there.

I specifically sought out, and installed, the stock ICS keyboard to use on this handset. I hated the HTC keyboard, and none of the others I have really endeared me either. ICS's keyboard has improved on prior versions immensely.

I tried to enjoy the stock keyboard but today I gave up on it, which is sad cause I liked the stock keyboard on my 3D. I'm using SlideIT keyboard for now.
I like to use the HTC IME and Swiftkey X and my absolute favorite is Thumb Keyboard, reason being is that you can change the size of the buttons and layout so you can have a large or small spacebar or w/e
