sms notification sound only playing default - HTC EVO 3D

I've selected a certain sms notification sound through messaging but when i recieve a text message it plays the default notification sound. i've also noticed when i go into the messaging settings and try to change the sound it jumps from default notification to whatever sound i selected on its own. any help would be great
now it seems that my phone picks which sounds to play. its only in messaging though

there seems to be similar issues that other people and myself seem to be having with email notification

[Q] Problems / Quirks after 2.1 update

I love 2.1 compared to 1.6 but two quirks I have that are bothering me are:
1. The headphones sound really distorted. When I watch videos I can hear the background noise but noone talking and lots of distortion. I tried the stock headphones along with 2 other pair that do not have mic's.
2. When I get a sms I get 2 notification sounds and 2 messages in my status bar. So I went into the options of the standard messaging program and turned notifications off. This would be fine but the notification will stay there until I clear it because its not the notification for the standard message app. I searched high and low and cannot find out what is sending this 2nd message.
Note: I don't have any third party messaging apps on the phone. The two icons that pop up is a new smaller icon for the message app in 2.1 which disappears when I turn notifications off. The icon that will not disappear and which I can't disable is the old icon from 1.6's standard message app.
Does anyone have any similar problems or have any suggestions? Thanks!

can I set a custom ringtone for text messages

ok my first Atrix I could do it. I can not find where to do it. It is only showing my the regular tones. What am I missing? Where can I put a custom ringtone for text message. I am using the standard text with the phone.
Thanks
mnt/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
mnt/sdcard/media/audio/notifications
mnt/sdcard/media/audio/alarms
Here's how I do it:
Install GO SMS
Set the default notification sound in Settings (Android NOT GO SMS) which will be your email notification sound now.
Turn off notifications in the stock Text Message app
In GO SMS set the notification sound to whatever you like.
This way you have one sound for email and another for text messages.

[Q] Pansi Plugin problem?

I installed the Individual Settings plugin for Pansi SMS app on my GS2, however it does not change the notification sound for selected contacts. The notification icon and privacy notification settings work fine, just not the sound (instead it plays the app's default notification tone). What to do?
(If It helps, I noticed that pansi was having trouble with multiple sms apps on my phone and started receiving double texts, i have uninstalled all other apps since then, that fixed the double text problem.)

[Q] Help with Notification Ring Tones-Please

I have flashed the CM9/Liquid Smooth/AOKP/Randon ICS Rom by Twistedumbrella. The problem I'm having is the notification ringtone for my text messages. When ever I get a message the sound keeps ringing until I open the messenger. I'm using Go SMS by the way. I have set the notification sound in the Sound settings and the GO SMS notification sound setting. But it just keeps using this same ringtone. I found the ringtone in the system/media/audio/ringtone folder and deleted it. Now when I get a message it will only vibrate. The Gmail notification is working fine. Any help would be appreciated.

MMS Notification issue CM 10.2 ROM

Somehow I lost the ability to choose a MMS sound independent of the notification sound. Not sure what happen but all of a sudden after 2 weeks on the ROM it just changed out of nowhere. Weird thing is on the options menu it'll pick and play a sound, after the option closes out it'll show my chosen ringtone instead of the sound I picked, but actually play the default notification sound? The same thing goes for trying to chose a custom vibrate pattern for texts.
