Having trouble getting vzw to replace my fassy with a Charge, DI2 or X2 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have contacted Verizon customer support about the dropped/missing call issue in order to get a replacement droid charge, x2 or a inc 2. I have had no luck in getting a offer to replace the fassy with one of the above. Does anyone have any solutions/suggestions as to how to get vzw to replace the fascinate?

Various threads have referenced all the information that you need. In observation of that fact I give you this:

Go into the store, pay for a different phone, and have them activate it.
Seriously, ever other person on here is getting away with fraud. Boo hoo I missed a call once or twice so I need a new phone. A few people manage to talk their way into replacements and now everyone wants to do it.
It's a cell phone, not a hard line. Just like everything else in this world, there's going to be some issues at one point or another.

True, but if the company has itself found a flaw in the phone they need to replace what is faulty. I have been going through the threads and wanted to see if anyone had and information to help. I was told by CS at Verizon that if was likely my google forwarding that was making me miss calls. Yes, I miss calls. Most here are not committing fraud btw, that is just your opinion. I believe I speak the truth when I say most fassy owners miss calls. I never have this problem on my droid 1 or NV-touch.

While I agree that some are probably over exaggerating their problems in order to get a new device, it is a problem nonetheless. If it was nothing more than your standard cellular issues then this program would not be offered.
Not even close to fraud. Perhaps somewhat unethical (if you haven't noticed the issue).

I hate to contradict you, but it is a legitimate problem. You're slightly mistaken: many people have the problem, but at least in my case, I thought it was a software issue related to rooting/flashing custom ROMs. However, once the bulletin came out that it was a Samsung issue, we took advantage of it. It's a real problem - I spoke directly with Samsung (not Verizon) tech support, and they said that there is a team working to resolve the issue as we speak. So, perhaps it is a bit unethical. However, it is completely within our bounds as paying customers to do so.
I didn't even plan to ask for a replacement until my phone missed the call from my (now) boss offering me a job. When you have a job, you can't afford to miss a quarter of your calls.

Wow, close call. Glad you still got the job.

...tell me about it.

So I went to a Verizon store and they said that they were out of replacement models for the time being.

Sorry but when calls are not recieved or Text are missed, then wi/fi does not work and neither does GPS there is a problem with the phone. This is my wifes and never been rooted. I am calling today to see what they say. I have already done factory rest/data wipe. Did not help.

Do your homework before you post stupid and wrong stuff. I talked with Samsung customer support about the offer and the replacements, their supervisor said it is Samsung that is providing the Charge, as well ad other devices, some from competitors for those who want nothing to do with Samsung devices anymore, because ALL SCH-I500 devices are having serious call and data issues, they are doing it voluntarily trying to make it right with their customers. Samsung understands there is a very real problem with the I-500 phones, they have not, at the time I spoke to them, figured out what exactly it is or how to fix it. Their decision to do this is great from a customer service point of view. If it's broke and they can't fix it, they should replace it. Would you just accept a car being a lemon and the dealer/manufacturer saying sorry quit whining about, NO you'd take their ass to court, why should this be different, because it's a phone, get real.

All right, everyone chill now... No need for another flame war As for the vzw rep: I'm not convinced he/she is being completely honest with you - if you're planning to call customer service again, ask for tier 2 support - they are reported to be more inclined to help you. If you go to the vzw store again, perhaps a different vzw store is near where you live - try going there
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...

I would rather they fix the issues. I love the screen, size and weight of the Fascinate. IMHO, it's better than the replacement options. Of course, before my 1 yr is up, I may look into taking advantage of my warranty, if it's not fixed.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

I went to another store any they offered a replacement and when the rep looked at his screen for ordering he said it showed 0 for quantity. I called CS and told them that I had been offered a replacement and right away I was put through to tier2. The tier2 person told me that I could have either a DX2 of DI2, then he put me through to another person. I asked that person about the Samsung charge and he told me that the Charge can only be ordered in-store as his system does not allow for the Charge to be ordered as a replacement kit although it is offered as an option. I will be going back to the VZW Corporate store to try to get my Charge (fingers crossed).
***Update***
Getting the Charge 2nd day mail!

I wonder when the Galaxy S2 will come out and if it will be offered as a replacement, if everything isn't fixed on the Fascinate by then.

I called tonight only offered another Fassy which is fine I just want a phone for my wife that works. I will put it through its paces to make sure it is good to go. They did say it should have all updates already.

Yeah I called and told them my problems with missed calls. to tell the truth I didn't even notice a problem till my wife tried to call me a bunch of times and my phone never rang or anything, then it happened to my wifes phone. My mother even said there were days she couldn't reach me because of it. I just asked if there was a way to fix it she said to do a factory reset did that didn't help. Then i was offered the x2 Dinc2 and the charge. she said for us to go to the store and see which one I liked better then to call back with my choice. I'm getting the Dinc2 when they get one in and my wife chose the x2.
But if they said that a fix was getting ready to come down the line I would have kept the fassy my wife and I love the phone. But we need it to be a phone.

They wont do anything if your warranty is out of date!
If your phone is older than a year they try to push you to use an update.
I just tried a local store and the CS number asked for tier 2 support and she basically said your phone is out of warranty sorry.

Unless you voided your warranty, everyone should have a warranty on the Fascinate since it has not been out more then a year.

well i purchased this phone from ebay and they gave me the run around. and wouldn't do anything for me.

[MIGHT_HELP_YOU] Having Verizon 3G issues ? Here's the solution

So I started having the 3G issues for the past week. This was on the latest Froyo ComROM which was running fine and I hadn't changed anything. First it started like it taking 5 minutes to connect to 3G, then on CM7 icon would show up for 5s then go out, that's all it did. Same on MIUI. On ComROM GB, it didn't show up at all.
So I called Verizon, they walked with me through troubleshooting and concluded that it wasn't their network but my device :smh:
Not satisfied, I remember a solution from a few months ago when 4G network went out and people started having 3G issues.
So what I did is activate my spare VZ phone on my line. Half an hour later I activated my Fascinate back on the same line. BOOM! as soon as the phone boots up on ComROM GB, 3G is ON! Now the 3G turns as soon as I push the button in the windowshade, and off as soon as I turn the button off.
EDIT: Yes I posted it in dev section. But this is because a lot of people flashing ROMs seem to be having 3G issues. So that they might see the solution better, I posted this here. Feel free to move if you don't agree with my reasoning.
EDIT2: Speedingcheetah mentions
If you do an ESN swap with a standard or dummy ESN, you are removing the unlimited data plan and get stuck with the new capped 2gb plan when you re-activate...You have to swap with a another smartphone in order to keep unlimited data.

Sounds vaguely familiar... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051543
It was their network. The problem could have been fixed with a DMU reset on their end. They just wanted to make you feel like it was your fault.

Yeah. I actually opened this just to see what kind of development tweaks were listed. Soon as I read it I thought "uh oh. here it comes"
But hey, with all the people jumping ship from our phone lately, maybe the flame-ers (not "flamers") jumped into other forums as well.

I had a similar problem; also fixed with a DMU reset (un/re-register a phone's ESN/MEID). Once you re-assign your phone to your account, you get stable, reliable 3G connectivity.
And I don't think that Verizon Wireless was trying to make anyone feel like it was their fault, or to avoid blame... they probably have no idea what the problem was, or how to fix it at all. The honest truth is that most people on these forums know more about their phones and troubleshooting problems with the Verizon network, than the Verizon support techs.

which makes it extremely frustrating when you call for help, you have to train them and then they get the snarky attitude when you tell them you don't need to "do a factory reset" or "uninstall some apps to free up memory"
it took me three calls to get someone who would agree to do the ESN swap over the phone, they kept insisting i do 15 other things first so on the third call i simply told them I have done all of that....please try the ESN swap....and what do you know...it fixed it

I find that it is always better to play dumb. People feel threatened when confronted with someone who knows more than them (especially Support Techs, whose job it is to know the answer).
If I needed an ESN swap, I would walk into a Verizon store with a restored stock ROM on it, walk up to the Service desk there, and basically just say something along the lines of "I dunno... it don't work". They will eventually just give you a new refurbished phone, effectively performing an ESN / MEID swap onto new hardware.
Playing dumb is often the faster, more direct way of getting what you want.
Careful, can loose unlimited data plan
If you do an ESN swap with a standard or dummy ESN, you are removing the unlimited data plan and get stuck with the new capped 2gb plan when you re-activate...You have to swap with a another smartphone in order to keep unlimited data.
Just wanted to mention this, since it is a fairly new thing.

Of course, if you don't have a spare smartphone, the only other way is to call for a replacement device sent out to you...That's what I had to do...

That's the thing, I didn't want someone else's used reject phone they brought back only because it would only overclock to 1.2Ghz instead of 1.6. I knew my hardware and had taken very good care of it since launch, looks brand new even today....
just a heads up
Just a heads up guys you dont need to call verizon for a ESN swap..its as easy as dialing *228 press option 1 and follow the directions super simple..you can also perform the swap on myverizon.com.....you can avoid verizon all together and its much faster....FYI if using *228 its easiest when swapping smartphone to smartphone just make sure that the phone you are trying to activate isnt already active otherwise you will run into problems.. hope it helps

They are sent back to the manufacture and are completely checked and tested...that's what Verizon says...and anyway, I can confirm, the Like New replacement I got works far better the the one i bought brand new ever did...
...*228 didn't work for me...I ended up calling Verizon service and after about 30 minutes on a landline while he tried this and that, including a full reset of the phone and a series of "*#" key presses, 3G came back. I did specifically mention that I was on the unlimited plan, if that helps. This is after trying a plethora of roms and ota leaks.
This is a problem on their side.
Hopefully, ya'll will get someone just as helpful from tech support as I did.

3G's kept cutting out the past few days so I went to a Best Buy since I got the warranty there. All of a sudden I have fully working internet and they wouldn't change it. Right when I drive down the street it cuts out. Crap.

Will the big red swap RAZR for rezound.

I have a razr that drops data just about every day and was thinking to try to swap it for a HTC rezound.
Ok this crap is just BS.
They said as long as I am able to get a signal at some point there is not a thing they can do about it. one of my videos is in my sig showing the isuse.
I have tryed:
1) Clearing all data ( "advaned tech said to do this.)
2) Reboots every 24 hours
3) Airplane mode (mixed outcome. A few times it has made it data drop MORE by puting in this mode.)
4) just about every network app
5) Not using the phone for 2 days. ( I left it off and used my S2.)
Umm... No. Not unless your within the 30 day return period.
They swapped my droid charge for a rezound so I'm fairly certain they'll swap your razr for it. If they say no then just call back again and again until you get a nice rep.
Goodluck
How did you do that, was it 100% dead or what. And if thats the case, maybe I should wait a bit and try to get a better upcoming phone?

I was on my 3rd replacement from them. I just kept calling and telling them about my 4g cutting in and out even with full data service (samsung makes awful radios) and they finally offered me a like-new rezound.
In your case you should complain about the bugs with your device and try to convince them that it isn't an isolated situation and that it's happening with a lot of other people's razrs. They should offer you the rezound and I'd go for it. It really is a great device with a fantastic dev community.
I tryed what you said and no dice.
They don't seem to give a crap and or think I am making this up.
I have upload more videos as retalion. They Need to fix there crap or I will go back to AT&T 100%.
I will keep calling, but every one has limits before they smap.
P.S how much do used HTC rez's go for?

Ouch. I would never leave verizon. In the phoenix area they have the best data coverage and their 4g service is about 5x faster than Att, tmobile and sprint. If you live in the Phoenix area you might be shooting yourself in the foot.

On a side note, your auto correct is chewing up your posts.
Seriously, I hope you get your issue resolved. Back when the D1 came out, my wife kept having issues with hers, finally she got them to send her an Incredible instead.
I'm currently stuck in a DX2 which has been a horrible buggy phone. I'm working with a great rep right now going through the motions trying to get them to finally let me do an early upgrade. I got the X2 as a replacement for the POS fascinate last year so now they tell me they can only do a swap like that 1 time over the life of the account.
Just keep calling, I'm now on my 5th X2 and had 4 Fascinates before that. Eventually they may let you do it.
I'm really hoping to get a Rezound. Moto is crap to me now and I don't care for Samsung much either after the fascinate.
Yea I am not the best at typing.
I just did a reset at the store and then when I went home. Bam sub 1mbs on 4G. This is pissing me off. I am about to go back to that store soon as I am sure It has returned. All the RAZR's, rezounds and gnexus phones in the store were fast and fine with lots of apps and 400+uptime.
I live in a place were both AT&T and verizon have 4G LTE. On one bar of AT&T LTE at 1PM, I have seen 10-15mbs. I can only get 5 on a good day with one bar. At home with 3-4 bars I get 10-15mbs avg, when it's working right.
When I was getting my tbolt replaced I had to go through two refurbs which had the same problem. Finally I got a rep who said I could switch to the bionic or a charge. I asked her about the rezound and she said she couldn't allow it, when I told her I knew friends who were allowed for it. The rep didn't budge so I said id call back after I look at the phone options some more. I called back and told the new rep my situation and told this rep that I was given the options of a bionic, charge, and rezound lol and said that I decided I wanted the rezound. This rep didn't fight me at all and I got my rezzy

Well I geting a refurb razr. I tryed for a Rez, but no dice.
I will be reporting back as soon as I get the "new" one and try it out for a bit.
I got the new one and it works way better at holding down the fort of 4G than my old one did, but still seems to have the under laying issue of data droping just not nearly as bad/long yet. I will be keeping an eye on this. If all else fails back to AT&T I go.

Really bad service

So a few weeks ago, I started having problems with sprints service. 6 dropped calls in 30 minutes, echoing on calls (incredibly annoying). when I called they made it seem like it was my phone and reset something on my phone and then proclaimed that all of my problems were fixed. WRONG! from what I've read and learned from talking with other sprint users is that they are doing some upgrade that won't be finished until July or September depending on who you talk to and that they won't apply a credit until the service is fixed and that it will be in the form of minutes and not an actual credit. I'm in the Chicago market.
Does anyone have any insight or anything to add. I don't really want to deal with the hassle of changing providers but I'm getting really angry with the lack of service.
If you are changing providers, who would you switch to?

So, what you are saying is you had an issue. You called Sprint and they reset something and sayed it was fixed. It wasn't so instead of calling them back or going to a store, you talked to other Sprint users and got answers to your issues from them.
Advice: Go to a Sprint Corporate Store and tell them your issues.
Wow what a friendly attitude you have. it isn't specific to my phone, genius. I posted it here because unless you've unlocked your phone, my understanding is...you are a sprint customer. How many times do people post about canceling their service on this forum? Besides people with better quality phones are going to be more likely to notice the bad 3/4g vs people who don't use their phone for internet.

I don't even know where to start with this post?
First, you came on here, told a story and asked for advice. I posted what I thought you said for clarification and then gave you my opinion on what you should do.
Second, people do come on here and post about canceling there service all of the time, but they usually have a good reason. My opinion is you don't really have a good enough reason to cancel as from what you posted, you only had the issue once and only tried once to get it fixed.
Third, your last sentence makes no sense to me at all. I have read it over a couple of times, but still cannot make out your point.
Just my opinions.
I'm in the exact same boat as the OP. They're doing the Network Vision upgrades to the tower in my area (McHenry county outside Chicago) and as a result 9/10 calls I make drop within two minutes. After an hour of back and forth with Sprint, all they were willing to do is offer a minor discount on my bill this month. Its ridiculous, if they cant provide voice service, why am I paying them at all? And yes, they said its going to go on until June.

Calling and complaining will help for most phone-related things but they aren't going to stop the network vision upgrade or w/e just because you called. Going in to a corporate store won't fix anything either. You're pretty much stuck with the **** service near your house.
What you can do, is, switch providers. If you're willing to go through the hassle. I imagine T-Mobile wouldn't be much better but that's your cheap alternative. If you're serious having 0 dropped calls, great reception everywhere, fast 3G and actual 4G coverage, go with Verizon. It'll cost a lot more but, in your case, will probably be worth it.
Also, since I see so many of these threads and am getting sick of it, I'll do the honors:

Refurb Quality Control Issues

Hello all, sorry for the long post, but looking for thoughts, opinions and suggestions on this.
Issue:
My wife and I upgraded to Rezounds last November and since then we've been through a total of 16 refurbs. Anything from bad LEDs, to overheating, to dead pixels, to light leakage, to continuous reboots... You name it, we've had it. In each case we contacted Verizon, explained the issue, and Verizon then sends us a refurb. We've had several cases where the refurb would be DOA right out of the box and, in fact, have had replacements sent out on 4 consecutive days. I've finally gotten sick of it and have escalated to managers at Verizon, HTC and PCD (supposedly the company that is actually fixing the devices that are marked as refurb). In each case I've remained calm, courteous and professional since I know that getting rude and abrasive won't get me anywhere. Here's a summary of the conversations from each company.
Verizon:
I was escalated from the first line CSR to a tech support rep and then to what I'll refer to as a customer relations rep. I was given the option of going with the Galaxy Nexus or the Razr as comparable devices which Verizon actually considers an "upgrade"; however, in my opinion, neither of these are comparable. I use the camera ALOT so that's an important feature to me so the Nexus was out and the non-removable battery/storage is an issue for me with the Razr. I explained that my preference would be to either get a NEW rezound vs a refurb or be upgraded to the GS3 as that's really the only device that is "as good or better" than the rezound. Of course, that option was out being that this is a newer phone despite the fact that I offered to pay the difference. Against my better judgment, Verizon actually sent me a Nexus to try out. I did some photo/video comparisons between the Rezound/Nexus and the differences were pretty stark. The Rezound blew the Nexus away so I sent it back. I then explained my preference again of either getting a new rezound or a SG3 and was told that, since I tried the nexus, it was considered an "upgrade" and that because of this the GS3 was not an option. I said that this conflicted with what I was told earlier, but the manager fell back to the stance that this was a newer phone and not an option here. The manager basically gave me 2 options: 1. Continue requesting refurbs or 2. Purchase another phone off of Amazon/Craigslist since I'm not eligible for an upgrade right now. I calmly explained that I might come out cheaper if I paid the ETF and subsidized another phone with another carrier, but that didn’t get me anywhere. It was at that point that Verizon suggested that I contact HTC to see if there was something they could do.
HTC:
I was escalated in a simlar matter with HTC to a manager. The manager explained to me that they have nothing to do with the repairs of refurbs and that Verizon contracts to PCD to do the repairs on these devices. I was then directed to call PCD or go back to Verizon. I explained the quality control issues on these refurbs and that I'd be concerned if I were them that this is giving HTC a bad rep since most people probably assume that they come from HTC. I asked if there was anything that HTC could do and the manager took my name/number and said she would call me back within 24 hours; however, that was 3 days ago so I decided to call PCD.
PCD:
I was escalated to a manager here as well. The manager took the IMEI number from my recent refurb that I just returned back to Verizon. He confirmed that PCD did "certify" this phone; however, it was done by another company that PCD contracts to. I wasn't given the info on this company. I was told that PCD only repairs the devices and that my only option with them was to send in my refurb to them for repair or go back to Verizon and request another refurb. Two issues here is that I'd have to pay for shipping and be without a phone for an undetermined amount of time while they worked on it and, to be frank, I don't trust that they would fix the problem anyway given all of the bad refurbs I've gotten. I basically ended the call alerting the manager that they have quality control issues with their refurbs. He said he made a note of it and would look into it.
All of the managers that I've spoken with have been very understanding and courteous; however, no one has provided an acceptable solution to the issue. All of these companies seem to be "caught in the middle" with no one really accepting any responsibility for customer satisfaction or standing by what they are selling. But basically, after all this time and effort, I’m right back where I started with running through refurbs until I get one that finally works. Of course, come November when the 1 year warranty runs out I’ll be in trouble…
Again, just looking for thoughts, opinions and suggestions as well as if anyone else has experienced issues with refurbs.
It's hard to suggest anything at this point - it appears you've done everything possible. I also can't believe you've gone through sixteen refurbs! I've been using smartphones for a while now - some amazing and some not so amazing - but the Rezound has so far been my most reliable one. So I find it hard you've had so many issues with so many different phones. Is your house built on an Indian burial ground?
What I guess I will say, is if I were you I would definitely send it to them to get repaired as opposed to them just sending you another refurb. It sounds like you haven't really had a dedicated line of communication anyway with all the issues you've had, so just go ahead and bit the bullet and send it off.
Once they get it, "repair" it, and you get it back - if you have ANY more issues I would suggest you, not necessarily get angry, but get stern and let them know your frustrations and I personally would demand a newer model at no cost to you. With as many problems as you've had, and documented troubles of yours that they have on their end, you have every right. And if they still push back, go to the FCC. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. And let them know you are going to get the FCC involved. Before I was a network engineer, I was a lowly Tech Support Rep and whenever a customer mentioned FCC to us we immediately had to escalate the situation.
Whatever happens, sorry about your frustrations and hope everything works out for you.
You have had amazing patience and a profound amount of bad luck. I feel your pain. 4 thunderbolts for me. Now on the rezound refurb. Only issue I noticed so far is the little plastic frame surrounding the charge port is loose when the back case is not on. I hope that's all that's loose!

I didn't read a lot of your post cuz I have a migraine but dang that's a lot of phones to go through. If I had that many problems with anything I'd probably switch carriers or make them give me a new phone. It would be kind of funny if they have been sending you like the same phones over and over again. You could possibly request one from a different area but im not sure if they stock refurbs in different areas... Also have you been checking the revision numbers?
I also think its bs how grown people play the blame game with other companies. I'm sure someone is cutting corners somewhere to save or make more money and it really is pathetic that a multi billion or trillion dollar corporation can't fix an issue. 16 phones? Good lord lol. Best of luck, seriously that's a little ridiculous to have to deal with. I'm sure it's already cost you a lot of time/money dealing with all of that bs.
Welcome to the business model of our world nowadays. It's awful, everyone points the finger at someone else... Things used to be different. One thing that stuck with me was when I had a boss that said (paraphrased): "In companies employees towards the bottom of the chain are paid to say 'no' and the ones towards the top are paid to say 'yes'." I guess this ended up being more of a sympathetic rant. I'm still learning the benefits of assertion (the squeaky wheel gets the grease!). Good luck, give'em hell!
tl;dr companies suck now.

Wow.. Someone that has gone for more refubs than I have.. But yeah I went through like 8 T-bolts and 6 Rezounds for pretty much the same issue you had. That + physical damage on the screen like big ass scratches. Plus the screen was popping out on the T-bolt too.. Pretty sad quality control and "100 point inspection" my ass. You could try getting another refurb and selling it for a gs3. Or you can keep calling and try to get one of the sups to give you an upgrade. But if you do have unlimited data you can kiss it goodbye if they give you a subsidized upgrade. Your best bet would be to keep contacting Verizon.
Thanks for all the responses.

I'm a bit leary of going the repair route with PCD because I'd be without a phone for who knows how long plus I don't think they'll do it right based on the number of phones I've been through that they've supposedly repaired. I guess it would show that I tried all possible options though... Maybe Verizon would give me a credit on my bill for the amount of time I'd be without a phone! The FCC route might be worth a try.

I had actually asked Verizon about this and, from their perspective, all of them come from PCD. I suppose I could see if PCD could work this for me, but when I had contacted them I was told that I'd have to go back to Verizon. I didn't specifically ask if they could do this though so maybe it's worth a shot.
I haven't been fully documenting the revision numbers, but the ones I've checked have either ended with 00 or XA.
It's cost me time (and just a bit of frustration) more than anything else, but I'm sure that, while Verizon may not pay for the refurbs, they pay for the overnight shipping.
And I thought I had it bad, here I go again bringing up for $7.00 priceless dollars a month always get the extended warranty by now they might have worked you in a different phone with the long list of phone foo going on.
I'm on my 4th tbolt ,wife 2nd between 4g dropping off and loose charge ports, sim card changes network trouble tickets and proving out phone is a p.o.s. I'm slowing trying to work us into a different phone for $0.
Which is a major p.I.t.a. takes time
GOOD LUCK sounds like u are in for a fight once remans are out of stock they start pulling from new stock, which who knows how long that will take
Once I called and told them before I had phone just send me another one ,because I found a flaw in the device they could not fix, in the owners it stated it could do something which it did not that something was back in 2003 I ended up getting a different device
So find a flaw and work it to your advantage
My -2 cents

I've been through 10 refurbs myself and am about to go with #11 because the one I have now has light leak on the bottom half of the screen. Below is a pic of what I'm seeing. Maybe I should just deal with this issue as it's the only thing wrong with it, but because of all that I've been through I've become very picky.
My wife is about to get #7 and she's been through 4 refurbs in 4 consecutive days!
8/9 - Called Verizon tech support to report static to Verizon during phone calls; after troubleshooting they admitted that it's most likely a bad speaker so they sent us a refurb.
8/10 - Refurb received, but had bad LED; the search LED was noticeably dimmer than the others. Verizon contacted and another refurb shipped.
8/13 - Refurb received, but phone got noticeably hot and continually rebooted. Verizon contacted and another refurb shipped.
8/14 - Refurb received, but had light leakage similar to the pic below. Verizon contacted and another refurb shipped.
8/15 - Hoping this one is a good one, but not holding my breath...
So that's a total of 16 and counting!!

Are you referring to the Asurion insurance coverage? If so, I have that on my line, but not my wife's. My understanding though is that you have to pay $100 in order to actually use it and I don't feel that I should have to pay that while I'm still in the standard warranty window and the fact that it's not my fault that they're sending me junk devices.
I had no idea so many of you have had to go through so many refurbs. After reading this thread, I feel very lucky, hah.
OK if you have tec/ tep it extends your one year warranty until you get another phone.asurion only comes into play if you drown, murder, scratch,Rom lock it (hard brick it).
Under manufacture's warranty which Verizon just plays switch'um for u so you still have a device so your stuck unless u can show a track record of junk devices
Verizon changes the rules daily
It used to be after 3 like devices they would switch u out to a different device for no $$
I sent this to Verizon
NBR:000005506433
Recently got replacement phones for 0190 thunderbolt still drops 4g no 3g or 1x showing its all or nothing.
8190 doing samething as above
0190 x 4 phones
8190 x 2 phones
No non Google apps installed
3+ hours setting phones up to user liking timeless
Keep getting defective phones priceless
what are my next steps as in getting a phone that works

Thanks for the clarification. I have TEC/Asurion on my line so it looks like I'm good past the 1 year. My wife's line on the otherhand doesn't have it so after November of this year we'll be out of luck.
Regarding the number of replacements, I was told by Verizon that the rule use to be 3, but, because of the rising prices of smartphones, that rule has been removed. So I guess I could go through 30 of these and nothing would be done so I asked if there was a new limit and was told there is no limit.

The light leakage thing you have is pretty common, I have had it on a couple of my Rezounds before I got my Nexus, I wouldn't return it unless it has something else wrong with it
That.......... Really.............. Sucks.

Got a replacement so far so good

It's a vicious circle...
Verizon has been pointing me to HTC even though Verizon contracts to PCD for these repairs, bypassing HTC. HTC points me back to Verizon saying that Verizon is contracting to PCD for repairs not realizing that PCD is sending horrible refurbs giving them a bad name. PCD points me back to Verizon/HTC saying all they do is repairs
Got back on the phone with Verizon this morning and, because PCD is doing such a horrible job, they recommended that I just send the device to HTC and have HTC repair it instead. So basically I'd be without a phone for who knows how long plus I'd be on the hook for shipping ... I did convince Verizon to give me a credit for the number of days I'd be without a phone so, sadly, I will probably go down this road if these next refurbs don't do the trick.
It's either that or settle for what in my opinion is a lower quality device in the Nexus/Razr or continue to do the refurb switcheroo...
16, or 10 or even 6 refurbs that fail is probably a violation of your state's Consumer Protection Statute. The problem is that FCC may preempt state laws as concerns claims against telecommunications companies, and nearly all agreements include arbitration cram-downs.
However, you *do* retain the right under such agreements to file a claim and insist upon arbitration of the claim, where the prevailing party recovers costs/fees (and I can't imagine after 16 refurbs you wouldn't prevail). You also may have the right to walk away from the provider altogether under the circumstances, although you may not find Sprint or AT&T a real "option." At least for me it wouldn't be acceptable as AT&T service locally is terrible and Sprint is, well, Sprint.
My daughter went through 4 Incredibles and I was about ready to tear someone's head off, and she's never been genuinely happy with the last Incredible, and as a result, will probably migrate to iPhone next month, never to look back at Android again. I think that's her loss, but I understand her frustration. I went through 3 Palm Treo 755p's, which had near legendary issues (and early Palms were manufactured by, ahem, HTC).
The other problem is that you probably won't be able to get legal counsel to handle the matter because the amount in dispute is less than what most lawyers would cost, and, finally, the Agreement with Verizon probably also prohibits a class action via its arbitration clause (which the U.S. Supreme Court held last year is perfectly valid even though it happened to violate California state law).
I'm quite certain that I would never have had the patience which you have exhibited through 16 refurbs. If money weren't an object and I felt like exploring things, I might study the viability of a direct action against the refurb source, claiming to be a third party beneficiary, and since they're not a provider subject to the FCC, bringing claims under consumer fraud statutes, or the Magnuson Moss warranty act. Bottom line, though, is that the ultimate "cost" doesn't warrant the trouble.
As for me, my 2nd refurb seems to be functioning and unless it does something that completely impairs my ability to use it (I soldiered on for about 4 months without a USB connection because the unit woudl still charge), I'm sticking with it rather than going with what's behind door #3.
Just one lawyer's take on this sad story.

Congrats on getting a Note 2 man! Hopefully we'll still see you around every once in a while.
Mind if I asked where/how you got it?
My upgrade isn't available for a while, and I'm not sure adding a line and then paying the extra 10 bucks a month for it to get the subsidized fee is worth it. What's the most economical way? Is ATT selling it off contract for $599 like they do with most if their phones?
Hey james...Actually me and my wife signed up for AT&T in March 2012...I've had a few problems with my phone...But I called 611 and got through a sales rep...I asked politely since am having some phone issues if could receive a early upgrade...He asked his supervisor and whalaa..The phone is 299.I received the upgrade for my line but not my wifes....(she has a s2) And that was it...I had to use a credit card to put the phone on a hold until it ships then they charge the credit card...Its worth a shot if you had it...the worst they can say is no..But if so..Sell your current device in CL for 300 or 350 and use that for your upgrade..so your not using anything....Try it ..Can't hurt

I'm in the same situation with my RF and SD issues. I'll give it a shot asap.
what kind of sd card do you have?..I just realized mine is a 16gb class 2 sd card...That's a very slow read/write speed ..
There was a sd card fix somewhere I would try First though before deleting anything I'll look for it .
Here is some info on classes of micro sd cards and there read/write speeds I found this...Am getting a faster one for the note2....

I was also having trouble with my Note and finally after speaking to a supervisor, he said I could get any other phone for the upgrade price (except the iphone). I told him I wanted the Note 2. He told me the system would not let him order that since it had not come out yet. This was last Friday. I told him I would wait then. He said he was putting the offer in my case notes. So I plan to call back this Friday and hopefully get the Note 2.

Having trouble with calls. I keep fading in and out and my wife is so frustrated she won't answer my calls. I can hear the other party, but they can't hear me and it happens no matter what location I am at.
Mine is up on CL but I'm gonna go the nexus 4 route.
Love my note but I'm ready for vanilla android with speedy updates.

I'm with wish on this one...My note 2 will be in my hands tomorrow. I hate to leave this little community. It's always hard leaving when I upgrade because of all the cool people on here. The plus side is that usually most the people get your next phone also. Well, time to travel on...

This is a rather long narrative, but it illustrates the inconsistency of dealing with AT&T. I know we have all have read posts in these forums and thought to ourselves that they must be lying, because I tried the same thing, but I did not get that result. So anyway I called this morning to get my upgrade and was told I must have misunderstood, because I had owned my phone for only 8 months and it is impossible to get an upgrade. I said there were supposed to be notes on this, and they said there were, but it was unclear whether it was a standard upgrade or just an early upgrade, and that they were not able to contact the supervisor who I spoke to. They said they still wanted to help and the fourth person I spoke to came up with this elaborate plan. I would add a dummy line for $10 a month and they could have my new phone added to this number. They would give me $150 credit and also credit 6 months of email ($90) so the $10 for the 24 months of my commitment would be a wash. I told him that I did not want any of my plan to change, since much of it is grandfathered rates. He said he could code it so it would stay the same. So right before he was to confirm, he said sorry, I would have to change to a family plan. I said no, and asked him why he could code in this complicated plan, but couldn't do some code for an upgrade. He said he couldn't and after a 2 hour phone conversation I was back at square one. So this afternoon I called back to find out what it would cost me to discontinue service and decided I would switch to another carrier and get a new Note 2. The guy asked me why I was canceling my service, I told him and he said he looked at my account and I have really been put through the wringer. He said he could help, and I said I have heard that line before. About ten minutes later he came back on the line said he had authorized an upgrade and for my inconvenience will deduct $50 from the price and charge me $249.99. He also said he will throw in free priority shipping and I will receive it Monday. After giving him my credit card number and thanking him he said wait, I see your last statement has just come out, to keep you as a valued customer, we will pay that also, I am marking that as paid right now. You could have knocked me over with a feather. As I was typing this, I received my email confirmation that it has already shipped. What a crazy deal.
