[Resolved] Full reset problems - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What I want to do:
Fully delete my personal data and go back to relative square one, preferably with stock 2.3.4.
So what's wrong?
I can't wipe data. I try through the privacy/factory reset route and through cwm and both ways it doesn't work.
I think the problem started after I tried the Ninja rom. I remember being surprised that it didn't wipe data going into it.
I even tried to format the data folder through the storage menu in cwm. It gave an error and wouldn't do it.
Any ideas?

Sorta fixed
I sorta fixed the problem. In case someone else has the same issue, here's what I did...
I RSDlite flashed the 2.3.4 file found here.
From there I used the factory reset from the privacy menu and all was right in the world again.
Of course, I've got to re-root and my recovery menu isn't working right, but I'm guessing I'll just need to re-install them from scratch.

true hard reset?

How do I do a full factory wipe of my phone? I know you can go into privacy and do a factory reset but that is for data only isn't it? I want to make the phone how it came in the box. I was rooted and had the lag fix installed but I have undone both in preparation for this. Thanks.

You will have to flash it with odin to get back to full stock. why do you need it back to stock?
You can do a "factory format" not a factory reset, and this will erase all data and restore to factory settings. Download my service menu program in my signature to do this. Otherwise do what the last poster did and reflash with odin.
phone seems slower in general than when I got it a few weeks ago, wondering if I messed something up playing with it. also I have a lot of fails when texting. just want to get it back like it came then start over.

If it was me I would do a Clockwork recovery of the stock rom. Im a little afraid of Odin due to all the bricks I have seen on the forums involving Odin (plus im on a Mac). If you are not returning it to Tmobile you could also try one of the roms that are posted in the forums. I would recomend Bionix or Frankin-twiz. Both devs are spot on with thier roms.
Factory Format Code is *2767*3855#

Just do a factory format, all the other methods listed are complicated
Go to dialer and dial in:
*2767*3855#
thats it, it will format your device and set it back to factory.
you can do a soft reset by dialing in
*#*#7780#*#*

tried that it erases all your data and settings but doesn't restore anything you have removed. will most likely use clockwork then.

Went back to stock, now cant re-root

I used the 1 click toot method and thought I may return my fascinate. I decided against it and tried to root again with no luck. The root always has a bunch of FC's and eventually gets stuck. The generic ringer also starts with no way to stop it. Only a battery pull will restart the phone afterward. I have also already really installed the Samsung drivers for the phone. Anybody have any thoughts?
Did you go back to stock via odin...if not do so...and push root manually...instead of an app.
I did through Odin. Tried to push root manually last night. The phone froze right after the push and never recovered. Had to battery pull. I had all of the files pushed and got to the chmod and wait stage when it froze.
Hmm, maybe re push to stock in odin...make sure you are doing the correct files...though it sounds like you did...a second time around sometimes seems to hit the spot...droid used to give me the same issues with sbf.
Do a factory data reset after you redo the odin recovery. Make sure you are using the verizon file when pushing each flash and doing it in the proper order. Then manually root, dont use one click or an app.
Also remember to push the files one at a time and let the phone restart between each one booting back into download mode.

I've been working all weekend so I havent had too much time to deal with it. I wiped data and cache in the recovery menu initially and then the phone wouldn't allow me to sign back into my Google account. It kept telling me that I didn't have a data connection on 3g OR wifi. I finally did a factory reset through the privacy menu (not in recovery) and all seems to finally be working and completely stock. Now off to root and flash voodoo...
hey i had the same problem i made a post on how to fix it though.. go to the 0.00 internal storage issue mine was doing what u said plus more but i fixed it just follow the steps i set

Got it. Just for the record: Rooted, Flashed all three files with Odin to get "back to stock". Re-OTA'd. Somehow Busybox and Su were still there so I manually removed. Then changed my mind about returning the phone and attempted to root again with no luck. Re-flashed through Odin ok, then attempted root but errors prevented finish. Cleared data and wiped cache through recovery. Then my google account wouldn't resync b/c of network connection error, even though I had a working data connection the entire time. Tried booting into recovery and clear and wipe data again. No luck. Finally decided to use factory data reset from within settings. Now all clear, rooted again, re-synced my google account and all good. You guys rock. Thanks for the help.

Problem flashing Huawei Ascend for Metro

(I searched before asking)
So I'm flashing my buddy's Metro Ascend. I got it rooted. Flashed CWM Recovery 2.x.x.x. (The common one, .5.1.8, I think). It hangs if I try to format the cache, period. Hangs during factory reset, wipe cache and format cache. I stupidly flashed anyway and it seemed to work, but after a reboot, the entire system seems broken. Force closes left and right and the Launcher doesn't load. It still received incoming calls at first, but now it doesn't even do that. I'm not too familiar with troubleshooting this particular phone and my friend really needs it fixed. So please, someone help me? (No lectures or flaming please, just advice. I'm not looking for motherly scolding about my irresponsibility )

Probably need to wipe the phone clean and flash rom again. If cwm is not working good try Amon Ra.
There's also a system format file floating around that you can flash in recovery to wipe your system clean.
Thanks. Never heard of Amon Ra but I'll look it up. The inability to finish the wipe data/factory reset kills me. I know my way around a Captivate with my eyes closed, but this is all goofy to me.
Still open to suggestions if anyone else has something to add. Easy way back to stock? Suggestions for a good rom/mod to flash? (Currently attempting Icarus 1.0)

Factory Data Wipe Weirdness

I just experienced some weird sh... stuff.
I was having problems with my phone (Modem did not power up error) I had previously rooted and flashed CM7. So I SBF'd back to 2.3.4 and did my phone's Factory data reset. This was the second time I'd had the Modem error so I wanted make sure it was a very clean build before doing anything else.
Here is what happened:
Using the phone's Privacy Menu I reset all factory data and wiped the internal memory card.
-> This seemed to work fine and the phone looked to be clean from factory. (Original metal X wallpaper and all the verizon poop available)
Then (because I was paranoid) I booted into Android Recovery mode and did the User Data Reset / Factory Reset and cleared the cache
I did nothing else after this, just rebooted.
When the phone started my Wallpaper from my CM7 build was set as the Wallpaper and my wifi instantly logged onto our password protected wireless router. I had not changed ANY settings. I had not even connected a google account. Other than the wallpaper and wireless router settings everything else seems to have been reset to Factory ... but obviously something is not right.
Does anyone have any suggestions on this? Obviously something is persisting from my CM7 build or perhaps from my Eclipse Build before that, and obviously I'm supposed to clear data before installing anything - which I thought I did!
Little help?
Are you saying you did the factory wipe through the settings "after" you SBF'd? That's kind of what I gathered from reading your post.
If it is acting funny, I would SBF and start from scratch. I've never tried the factory wipe from the settings. SBF, root, CWR and flash.
It just seems like something else was pulled in there when you factory wiped from the settings. Make sure to load 2.3.4 if you are going back to CM7. Start fresh.

Yes. The error code I had was preventing nandroid recovery and proper booting so I SBF'd to 2.3.4 FIRST and then to make 2x sure that I was "Stock" I used the privacy menu Factory Data Reset. (Not the recovery mode Factory Data Reset.) This worked. Then I went to make 3x sure and cleared my cache and data reset through Stock Android Recovery; that is when it pulled in old settings.
I am just kind of flummoxed as to why Stock Recovery Factory Data Reset / Wipe Cache would pull in old data that was not stock.
craptastic
So it happened again tonight.
I encountered the same "Modem Did Not Power Up (2)" error after losing all cell signal and rebooting.
I SBF'd to 2.3.4 and still my old wallpaper and wifi settings were still there.
I thought that SBF reset all you data to the original Factory state?
I am following Moonshadow's SBF guide.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how I can get my phone 100% back to stock?
When you sbf, somewhere in the setup when you first start the phone is a setting to backup and restore your settings. Anyway, are you sure that's not what's happening? If that setting is selected, your old settings are backed up to Google and will be automatically restored after the rom is first booted.

Don't enter your Google information right after wiping. What's happening is it's restoring all your settings.

Noobs first bricked phone.....

Hi,
So heres the deal, I got a HTC One M9 rooted running TWRP. I was trying to factory reset phone and wiped Dalvik Cache, cache, data, and internal storage(If somebody can tell me what i did wrong there, that be great). Once phone booted i got messages like System UI, HTC sense, Easy access service, and Package access helper have all stopped. And my navigation button and notification bar are gone. So I figured that I got to flash stock rom but I can't access phone though ADB. Keeping getting device offline or unauthorized. I can't get RSA key fingerprint window to pop up to allow pc to connect. Tried revoking authorization. kill and start server and nothing. Is there a way bypass to connect to pc? If I flash a custom rom like viper will if fix those problems? TWRP never let me create a nandroid backup and always failed when I tried. Any help towards getting phone to working order is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
If you are trying to factory reset, you just need to swipe on the bottom of the Reset menu instead of going into Advanced wipe. My guess is that when you wiped the internal storage, something freaked out. As far as fixing everything, yes, you can just flash another rom or you would need to use the RUU to return to complete stock and start over. Rom would be much easier though. Even if you had done a nandroid, it would be gone if it was on the internal storage since you wiped it. You can load the rom to the phone in recovery. MTP SHOULD work, or at least adb should. If it doesn't, you might have driver issues. Or you can load one on an SD card and go that route. Matter of preference really.
