[MODULE | TEST] Native Wifi Tethering / Netfilter | by AnDyX - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

NEEDED MEDIUM / HIGH ANDROID KNOWLEDGE
Hello, guys, as some of you know, AnDyX (X8 forums, please give him a thumbs up for this) managed to build a module for hijack kernel to enable NetFilter, that includes Iptables, and of course and not less important Native wifi tethering.
So this is the current installation method (need to be runned again on reboot):
1. Download .zip (MD5: 7006E968E6C9B30E643ECB49756A2C25)
2. ADB Shell / Console emulator
Code:
busybox mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 `mount | busybox grep /system | awk '{print $1}'` /system
chmod +x /system/xbin/iptables
sh /system/xbin/full_iptables.sh
busybox mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 `mount | busybox grep /system | awk '{print $1}'` /system
3. Now module should be loaded.
Will upload full working and permanent module soon...

Already replied in the X8 thread - seems to install fine, but initial cursory testing with proxy scripts failed.
Have not tried tethering yet, but will do tomorrow assuming I have time at work!

Is this just "for the moment" and will be gone when I reboot ?
Otherwise thanks

wow! i really need this for ssh tunneling and proxy..heh2
EDIT:i just found an app called droidproxy for proxying my ip..so just need this module for tunneling..

Hmm, if you guys manage to get this module to a stable state..... *lost in dream*
Is there anything this little phone can't do? (exception : flash)

Guys, uploaded last version, thanks to AnDyX, needed testers (preferible with 3G data plan).
Cheers.
D4.

@dark
all i need to flash it in cwm is that correct. i am going to try.
edit: got first reboot as i enabled the 2g connection. lolz
i think its only supports usb tethering, is that correct, are you also working on wifi tethering.
thanks another grt job.

First, this is not my work. Second, Instructions and details are on first post, did you even read it?. Third, Title it's NATIVE WIFI TETHERING, how you dare to ask if this is USB tethering?
No offends of course, but please read before asking

Hi, I can test. I'm using your cyanocomb and I have unlimited data. But I don't have Android knowledge. All I can do is flash things with CWM...

I assume you can use adb?
on your pc open cmd and do the following (after you flashed it with cwm)
1)adb shell -after this, it will go into your phones' terminal
2) /system/xbin/full_iptables.sh
3) exit
4) adb shell dmesg > dmesg.txt
5) adb shell lsmod > lsmod.txt
6) adb shell iptables -L > iptables.txt
7) adb shell iptables -t nat -L >> iptables.txt
and post dmesg.txt,lsmod.txt and iptables.txt on the module's thread (in the x8 forums).
make sure to include what device you are using. Also test using Wireless Tether for Root Users (from market) and post results there too.
EDIT: If you do not know how to use adb, use the batch script provided. Just plug your phone into your computer and make sure USB debugging is enabled (and you flashed v2 of the module).

Awesome work.
Question. this module will allow "Droid Wall" to work correctly?
I think it should...

It should, once they get it working.

It's a software modded that can run the right scripts to enable wifi tethering (so you install zip, then run sh commands, and then install apk for tethering)

Thanks for info. i will wait for you to make proper script beacuse i know that you are genius

Once you've got the custom recovery on it's easy. Copy the jit enabling zip file to the root of your sdcard, reboot into recovery and choose flash zip from the recovery menu.

To use copy flash_image and recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img to the root of your sdcard.
To flash: via adb shell or terminal type this from root # shell
Code:
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
# cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
# chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
# mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
# mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img
# reboot recovery
Key combo to boot custom recovery from powered off is vol_down + home + power and release keys at LG splash.

Or root and get terminal app.
Either way, I tweaked mine for a vm.heapsize of 48mb.
JIT sure is handy but what about GPU accel?
I have flashed with jit zip.
I test the phone before,
with linpack,average result 3.5M
After flash with jit, actual result 7.8M
During the normale use i don't see evident boost performarce,
but for me is a good update.
Bye.
Sorry, but I thought Android 2.2 had the JIT compiler built in? It's turned off on the Optimus T?
This is my wife's phone, and in general it has good performance. But Angry Birds runs a slow on some of the screens. I was wondering if enabling the JIT compiler might help.
BTW, I've rooted the phone already to modify the SMS send limits.
Froyo normaly make active jit,
but on O1 this feature is not active by default.
If you have rooted the phone, install the recovery menu and flash with jit zip.

No that does not help, I have tested that. Removing the ads with adfree android seems to help a little bit, but generally the phones cpu has not enough power for angry birds.
The Angry Birds developers are working in a lower spec version that will run on 600mhz Arm6 processors more smoothly.
Just in case, figured someone would want it at some point.

you can also delete /data/local.prop and reboot too.
Or, flash this one which will not only enable JIT and change the vm.heapsize to 48mb but also enable hardware acceleration. Homescreen should be snappier.

Partially working
Ok guys... now i have working droid wall (partially)
Mini tuto I did with root explorer:
1.- Uncompress module in sdcard and copy in folders following instructions.
2.- Give 'x' priviliges to basic_iptables.sh and full_iptables.sh (I forgot this before )
Long click over file, permissions, click on execute in Owner.
3.- Now clic on full_iptables.sh and execute. (another mistake I had was executing basic_iptables. Only works Droidwall with full_iptables for me)
4.- Go DroidWall and load firewall. All OK.
But now I have a problem. If I reboot phone, Droidwall doesn't work again. I have to run full_iptables.sh after each reboot. Do you need too???
Thanks
I added this line to hw_config.sh and it works after reboot:
sh /system/xbin/full_iptables.sh

Haven't seen anyone posted the CIFS module for stock Dell Streak kernel. So, attached a copy here for your streaming enjoyment, built from streak_3.09_kernel, tested on stock ROM 360.
Remember to load slow-work.ko before cifs.ko
Happy streaming

No worry, yay I got a thank meter now
Btw looks like you're using 360 ROM as well. Do you notice wifi turning off when you lock the screen with the power button? Looks like I need to solve that one now to be able to stream music with the screen off
UPDATE: It doesn't seems to be entirely shut off when screen is turned off. Audio plays intermittently, 2-5 seconds pause, continue playing, all over again. Not skipping though
That is very annoying to me too, bcs I do a lot of Skype voicing but have to keep the screen on bcs of the connectivity issue on the wifi . Yes exactly the same symptoms but not only on the 360 also on other customed ROM . Atm I am using 2.3.3 from fardo and the same issue here too.

Good news that it isn't because a bug on the cifs module I built as I've modified some code
I think I remembered having the same problem with IM+, sometimes I found my session disconnected when turning the screen back on.
It seems to be the problem with some bandwidth limiter when screen is turned off. There is already a solution, not sure if we can apply it to Streak's firmware.

Hmm the zip files on the first post isn't a clockworkmod update.zip. You need to copy over manually on rooted systems.
But I've packaged them as update.zip in this post's attachment
Basically, the easiest way to enable cifs support is now:
1) Flash cifs-streak360-update.zip with StreakMod or CWM.
2) Install CifsManager.
3) Open CifsManager settings, check the "Load cifs module".
4) Make sure "Load via insmod" is checked.
5) Set the "Path to cifs.ko[:<modpath>]*" to "/system/lib/modules/slow-work.ko:/system/lib/modules/cifs.ko", without the quotes.
6) Now the cifs module won't get loaded on system startup, but instead loaded on demand when you start CifsManager before attemping to mount samba shares.

Tried just now with no luck
flashed everything installed fine and the services are up and running (checked via adb lsmod) but cifs manager fails stating that 'Mounting the share has failed with an error. Mount: invalid argument'. I am confident that everything is setup properly and the network share path is correct. I tried both with the netbios name and the ip address but still, no luck. Any thoughts chaps?

Try flashing with Superuser.zip rooting script. Could've been requiring mount command which came from busybox from the Superuser.zip. Not sure as I haven't ever done that without busybox and (possibly) mount symlinked.

well I have root and cifsmanager obtains root access correctly, and I have busybox installed as well (1.19 iirc).
to troubleshoot I have also tried a 'clean' mount command from shell which reads

and I still get mount: invalid argument.

[Q] S.onyTablet.S v2.5 all-in-tool and adhoc wifi support issues

Hello everyone! I hope i don't post in the wrong section of the forum and since it seems i can't post an answer to the related topic i open this new thread.
I used S.onyTablet.S v2.5 [ALLinONE] as found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515720) to get adhoc wifi support.
After i followed the steps and everything went ok, the device rebooted but the wifi has stopped working permanently. It just hangs up to the "Turning on" dialogue under the wifi settings menu forever.
I ran the all-in-one tool again just to uninstall the adhoc wifi patch everything went ok but wifi still doesn't work. It won't get enabled any more and still hangs up as previously.
I did some manual reboots on the tablet but to no avail.
What should i do? Any ideas to fix this problem?
Thank you for your help in advance!
Hi,

Code:

worked every time.

Regarding the backup directory in AiO folder there are 2 files: one file named orig_wlan_tool with a size of 11 KB and a file named orig_wpa_supplicant with a size of 320 KB.
Tbh i don't know if they are the correct files but they surely don't seem to be empty!

Your tab is first one which I see to be using p3 instead of p2 partition.
Tell me more info about your tab?
Firmware version? Device version? Region info?
You've got mmcblk0p3 as /system,
instead of all of us - mmcblk0p2.
Maybe we will figure out how to 'switch' between
two partitions of /system
I will put a 'detection' of current /system partition in next
version, which will work on every tab.
Give me a min, and check PM for temp solution
And give me info about your tab!

First of all, i would like to thank you for your help! I am really grateful for everything you did to help me fix my tablet! After the files you sent me everything works just fine! Thank you very much again!
As for my tablet the info you requested are the following:
Model number: SGPT114IT
Country: Italy
Android version: 3.2.1 (release 2)
Baseband version: R3B01
Kernel version: 2.6.36.3 [email protected] 6#1
I you need more info just ask me and i would be happy to help you!
One last thing though: Now that i ran the adhoc enabler with the fix provided by you did i actually install it or not? I mean will the adhoc work or i will just have to wait for the new version of the AiO tool?
Also after the factory reset there is a new system update. Should i install it or i will have problems?
Thank you again for your precious help!

You can just use the version which I gave you
Rerun it and you will see if it will enable adhoc,
or it will gonna ask if you want to revert changes.
About the update - you can just pull out the update from device,
but don't update it - this can be update with kernel #10 which is non rootable.
Just click DOWNLOAD UPDATE, then after finish DON'T CLICK UPDATE,
just use root explorer, go to /cache/ota directory, and copy the update from there.
Then post here name of the file, maybe we could figure out
what version you have.
If you used 'rescue-backdoor' option, then its normal that you have
notification about the update. You can disable the notification if you want,
with proper function of AiO.
Thanks for the info about your tab!

PS. got the /system partition 'detector' ready and working!
its waiting for v2.6, gonna make some additional new functionality and then release.
By the way condi, I appreciate you adding the adhoc feature to your tool (which I suggested at one point). I can't post in a development thread yet so I figure this is as good a place as any to say thanks! Now I can tether to my phone with absolutely no hassle

Tbh i used the "rescue-backdoor" option but i din't think there will be a problem regarding the updates. Anyway the name of the file, the update file, is signed-nbx03_010-ota-0042.004 and has a size of 183 MB. Should i use the update or the tablet will become unrooted after?
Also something i didn't mention earlier: my tablet is the wifi/3g version and the build number is THMAS0102400.
i have the same tablet (sgpt 114s/it) and i have the same problem, solved by reinstalling the original signed ota update with the backdoor and the aio function, now i have wifi back but i will not try the adhoc function as of now..

Same issues
Hi!
i have the same issues with my sony tablet s (3g version).
i did the "Add WiFi AD-HOC Support." option with version 3.1 of the aio tool. after that the wifi menu just tells me it hat an error enabling the wifi.
i did "Add WiFi AD-HOC Support." again to restore stock. Same issue. tried to reinstall the official ota update -> requires wifi....
i did not yet set the device to factory default.
can you please help me with repairing the wifi?
Edit:
Ok... Found a solution.
1. Do a hard reset from the recovery menu (power and vol+)
--> Wifi does not work now
2. Root the device using the aio tool
3. add the wifi adhoc support again
--> Wifi works...
thx

[Modules][TEST] FXP Kernel modules USB OTG {Update: Flashable}

Update: Just flash the flashable zip and use the app in my signature!
Download
-------------------- OLD POST BELOW ------------------------
I am trying to get support for USB OTG and NTFS support for FXP kernel too..
Hence I have compiled required modules against the FXP kernel source.
I am posting here to get maximum eyeballs of FXP kernel users.
If you are willing to test, please download and extract the files to /data/local/tmp
Then on terminal (adb shell / terminal emulator / script manager console ), try to insmod these modules like so (one line at a time)
Code:
insmod /data/local/tmp/usb-storage.ko
insmod /data/local/tmp/ntfs.ko
insmod /data/local/tmp/fuse.ko
insmod /data/local/tmp/isofs.ko
lsmod
Please post your output here..
Thanks for your time.

Is this for FXP 125 kernel?
I'm on FXP 126 + official CM9 for a day or two and it doesn't work here. The scripts were executed successfully but I still get "No Drives found to mount error"
But I gotta thank you for your quick response!! :good:

If you just type insmod it does nothing at all, you need to write path to the module after as in OP.

Yes, congrats! You got it right.. Did you test the app.. It should work now. I will make a CWM flashable zip (or just push the modules to /system/lib/modules/ folder and chmod 644 /system/lib/modules/*)

So I did the procedure with the correct path, the problem that the terminal android just shows all the way if you are in landscape mode.
Thank you (shardul_seth) for .Zip and have solved a lot of research and questions.

After flashing the zip, would it load modules automatically upon boot? Or should I create init.d script to load it upon boot.

Oh! I see! Your app is great, btw!
OTG, if implemented correctly, will allow us to plug usb mass storage devices into the phone.. Am I right?
What about USB HID? will this be possible?
What cable shoul be used?

I'm currently on FXP 136. I've flashed the modules and installed the app but whenever I open the application, my phone reboots.
Possible reason for this???

Shardul is there any chance that the modules would work with JB AOKP rom and kernel - this one for example?

The modules given by shardul don't work for jb, they are only for ics, I guess.
Searching XDA, i came across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780326&page=92.
1) Download the modules for CM10 FXP136.
2) Flash the zip through recovery
3) Mount the USB drive using Shardul's app.
These modules worked for me and I was able to mount a 2GB Transcend Pen Drive.
@Arturo - Try this for AOKP.
@freaktechz - This should solve the issue.
Download the Modules here.
