[Q] Since facebook v. 1.6.1, youtube videos launch in browser? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else experiencing this ever since the 1.6.1 facebook update? I still see it with 1.6.2.
Prior to 1.6.1 youtube video links would always prompt which video player/browser you wanted to play the video until you set one as the default. I would select the youtube app and set it as default. Whenever I selected a youtube video link it would just start playing. I no longer see that prompt. I uninstalled/reinstalled facebook, cleared the data/cache on youtube...nothing.
edit: went to applications->manage applications->browser and selected clear defaults. now when I launch a video from fb I get a prompt...except youtube is not an option.
after clearing defaults, uninstall fb, reinstall fb...got youtube listed in the complete action list, set it as default, video launched in youtube. exited, tried the same video again and got a complete action prompt...youtube is not listed in the complete action prompt.
edit2: seems like a fb 1.6.1/1.6.2 issue. When I select Videos in the news feed, no youtube video links appear. Seems like the fb app does not recognize the youtube links as videos, only as a traditional link. As a result the youtube app is not listed in the complete action list. I could be wrong .
edit3: ok, if anyone cares, lol....at the 'main' facebook app screen, the one with the news feed, profile, etc icons and a set of posted pics/videos near the bottom, if I select a video there, it brings up the person's post sharing the youtube video and when I select it the video launches through the youtube app. every time. Again, only when I select the video in a news feed does it never launch through the youtube app or list the youtube app in the complete action list.
Very minor drawback with the video not just playing right away, just wondering if anyone else is getting this behavior.

[Q] Youtube Downloader?

Hi there, i am a proud owner of an i9300, and im searching for a proper youtube downloader/converter to use. I've tested TubeMusic which is quite good ( it embeds into the official android youtube application, and whe u see a video, you press "share" icon and it adds the "Download" option. The only problem is that the files downloaded can only be played properly with the "Tube Music" player. They are still in .mp3 format and they are stored in the hidden fodler ".tubemusic" but the names are all messed up. I'd love if they could give us the setting to download wherever we want, and if it didnt mess with the mp3 names. Any ideas?
I've always used 'Tubemate' which isn't on Google play anymore but you can it from searching google.
You can specify what quality/resolution it downloads in or as an mp3. I would also be interested if anyone else has some other suggestions for YouTube downloaders.
Tubemate
Hm.. Im trying it right now, seems good but it doesnt embed in the official youtube application. Its an application on its own. Very good tho! Thanks!
If you use the proper youtube app, you can enable 'preload' (either on subscriptions or watch later).
I use Opera Mini to download YouTube vids. I navigate to the site, search for the video and when I click play or watch it automatically downloads the video in either mp4 or 3gp format depending on if I have his or low video setting enabled. Not sure if this is stock on the opera mini or if I downloaded something to enable it but it used to do the same on my Desire Z with the same app.

Google wants to leverage it's Youtube platform as a delivery network for commercial entities. That won't work if everyone can install an app to rip the video within seconds.
So they have to make it somewhat harder, since it's technically not possible to block such services/apps entirely.

By "embed" do you mean that this app is added as an intent from the Share option available on any YouTube video?
If so, TubeMate does this as well. Actually almost any app that is registered as a video filetype handler should be available from YouTube's Share menu.

[Q] Changing default video player

So I have MX Video player installed and where I could I set it as the default video app player. However when in the standard browser or even in Chrome browser when clicking a video it still plays using the native video player on the GS4. I downloaded a tool to tell me what all of my defaults are and I cannot find anything else so I'm lost at the moment. Is there a way to override the "built-in" video player when in a browser so I can use MX instead? I am unrooted, stock on the Verizon GS4 16GB and have the ME7 update installed via Kies. TIA for any help.
Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Bump
Just took the DMI1 update and still I cannot get MX to be the default video player for some websites. Anyone know a way to disable the built-in video player that launches by default? What's the app's name and location and can I disable it? Thanks.
Settings, More, Apps, All, find Video Player. In the Video Player App Info page scroll down and tap Clear Defaults.
Now you'll be prompted next time you open a video asking which player to use.

Yeah, I checked that a long time ago. Both Video and Video Player, the purple circle with white triangle are not showing as default - they are both greyed out. That's what is so strange about this. Can't put my finger on it.
I went to apps, show all apps incl. system and searched for 'player' then I'd found some unknown player (can't recall its name); I'd uninstalled it and videos played well back again from Telegram. Weird.

How do I select specific video app to play embedded videos?

Like the title says, I want to select a specific video app to play videos that appear embedded on different websites. Sometimes when I click the 'play' button on a site, it asks which app I want to use to play the video. Other times, depending on the site, it does not give me this option and, instead, plays the video right on the site. I want to have the option to select a specific video app whenever I click on videos that appears on any web site. Does anyone know how to do this?

Video trouble

Ever since I've had my Note 2(2 months or so), I've been getting a message popping up that says"cannot play this video right now. Stop the other video and try again" This happens in Facebook, video ads between rounds on most games, YouTube, browser, you name it. I search through running apps and can't find any video players running. It's getting damned annoying and I can't find anything by searching. Any ideas on what's going on?

I had this issue playing a YouTube video from a Facebook link, I cleared the cache in the YouTube app and Force Closed it, that fixed it for me.

I believe the issue is coming from Facebook auto-playing videos the feed.
I have been dealing with this randomly for about 4-6 weeks. This seems to occur when I scroll through my Facebook feed & someone has posted a video clip that starts to automatically play (with no sound, almost like a .gif). I notice because I seem to be able to link to youtube videos form my feed before one of these videos, but after youtube always fails to play. Tried restarting at first but now I Force Stop Facebook & Youtube works again.
Since half the youtube videos I watch originate from my Facebook feed, & I have to start my Facebook feed over from the top if I actually want to watch the video, is EXTREMELY frustrating.
I have cleared the apps, uninstalled updates & scoured the interwebs & this is the closest post I have been able to find, let alone a resolution.

YouTube Vanced and Reddit

This might be a bit low brow for XDA but I'm at my wits end
I am trying to get YouTube videos in the reddit app to open in YouTube vanced, however not having much luck
I am trying to get YouTube videos in the reddit app to open in YouTube vanced however not having much luck. If I click on an actual url, it takes me to YouTube vanced, but if I click on a posted video, it takes me to YouTube on the internal browser. There I have the option to click on the 3 dot menu to open in my browser but there is no option to open in YouTube vanced.
I have played around with a number of things;
- Official YouTube app has been disabled
- Toggled with the reddit app setting for opening links in the app
- Reinstalled reddit & YouTube vanced apps
- cleared defaults in app settings
- toggled the open url option in app settings for both reddit and YouTube vanced.
Any idea how to fix this?
