Noob question about developing a TW rom - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to try to develop a TW rom on the Vibrant. I'm running into one problem: where do I get the source for the stock Vibrant rom? I have setup the dev environment to work with the AOSP roms before, but where do I checkout the Samsung TW rom? Do I need to decompile the JFD rom and start there?
TIA

There's no source. You've got to smali hack your way through it .
Start with a deodexed build posted by Whitehawk, then work your way from there.

Thanks! I'll dig further into it!

If I were you I would develop a 2.3.4 JVQ rom since that is the latest and greatest and you can find the deodexed build here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790

can i install nexus one roms?

can i download any nexus one rom and install it on eris?
No, you can not.
oh ok thanks. and how bout the cyanogen mods? how can i install a rom based on that? 2.1 preferably
If it's made for a seperate phone you can't put it on yours. For the cyanogen mods see any of our cyanogen based roms. I suggest the one in my signature.
i tried that one but what i want to know if theres any cyanogen mod roms based on 2.1

That's based on cyanogenmod 5.8 (the highest 2.1 I believe?)
The Cyanogenmod6 ones are probably way better anyway. 2.2 is sweet, now that they have everything working pretty well. I'd go in that direction.
But, enjoy.

There's a few, like Conaps Eris Lighting Bolt. Find jCases Known ROMS, hacks, and patches post and you'll find a bunch of 2.1 ROMS but only one or two are CM.

[Q] Revolution kitchen app on other roms

Is it possible to use it on other roms? If not, where can I find the packages that it links to? Thanks in advance
I think it will work But the important thing is that you must have same baseband as Kitchen app repository server like xxkh3 or xxki3 etc.
it wont work as its exclusive to that rom now....i have tried and it doesnt...sorry
yea won't work, they integrated it specifically for their rom

Yes! Exactly!!
But I've tested the previous version to use in other roms and it worked!
Just want you to know
In fairness to Leomar if i were him i wouldn't make it available for just any ROM given he has spent the time to develop and maintain it, anyway CheckRom Revolution is the best there is at present.

Rom porting

I have a couple of maybe stupid question.
What do i need to port an ics rom to my phone from another phone?
we have a semi working cm9 rom (missing camera ans fm radio), and i'd like to use another ics rom, aokp or something like that.
All the driver files i need to have are on the kernel? or there are some files that need to be changed within the rom?
Can i install a rom from a similar hardware phone and just switch the kernel?
I've always been a final user of custom roms, but i really want to learn more about android development so i can contribute to the forum
So anyone wiling to give me a tutorial?
Thanks in advance

Github

Does the galaxy player line have a github repo? I have picked to build an aosp gingerbread rom for an independent study at my school and the rules are that it has to be pure aosp and I figured that building from scratch would be the easiest way because touchwiz is deeply integrated into the software in the device. If I can't do it from the github, does anyone have experience for building aosp?

which galaxy player ? the 4.0 and the 5.0 have cm9 and cm7 which are essentially aosp so you'll need to contact the developers...look at the development forum to see who they are
Its for the 5.0, the ROM I need to build can not already exist and must be a nexus-like ROM with gapps installed such as the nexus s gingerbread ROM. Nothing more nothing less and everything must work

that's the problem, the current cm7 rom has some issues and no one is working on them because cm9 is a bigger priority, you should ask gmillz for help as he seems one of the main 5.0 devs at the moment
I just want aosp such as the apex rom for the droid x or something similar, it cant be a cyanogenmod rom because those are already being worked on and I cant use generic ginger because its not mine and its not fully aosp
Try building AOSP from source. Use gmillz's device tree as it is the most stable atm. I'm also working on an experimental device tree which may or may not fix some issues so you could also use that if you want

Oh right sorry. I didn't read your initial post properly. These github repos are for CM9. You can build CM7 pretty easily as it doesn't require any propriety files as hardware acceleration is not usually enabled in GB roms. Sorry for the confusion
I can't do any cyanogenmod Roms, it has to be a nexus like ROM. As in stock 2.3.3 you would find on the nexus s

In that case try building AOSP gingerbread. I'm fairly certain that there are some instructions from Google on how to do so

Thank you, I am really new so I don't completely understand googles directions for building aosp, the part I don't understand is how the kernel and ROM is built after you sync the repos. Don't you need drivers and to link the kernel with the ROM? It just doesn't make sense to me yet

Hello,
I did some research and I discovered that Player 3.6 has the same CPU as:
-Motorola DEFY + (MB526)
-Motorola Droid 2
However, the Defy + a:
- CyanogenMod + CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795647
and

And Droid 2: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/developers/droid2?name=Motorola% 202% 20Droid
Is that this could help to advance the device tree?
thank you

It would need to have the same board, not only the same CPU, if it does have any other similar hardware then it may help.
Board ?
I saw this :
http://www.glbenchmark.com/phonedet...ro25&D=Samsung+Galaxy+Player&testgroup=system
and
http://www.glbenchmark.com/phonedet...sung+YP-G1+Galaxy+Player+4.0&testgroup=system
--> the Player 3.6 has the same board as the Player 4.0
Intressting ?
Update :
The Player Player 3.6 and 4.0 are almost identical except for the CPU and screen size!
Then the two might be able to help each other out such as graphics drivers/WiFi drivers etc.

I think u post on the wrong section, sir.
If you post on the Q&A, or the thread of the ROM instead, you will get answer faster.

Those need TW framework which is found on sammy rom's only. So, not possible to have them in any other rom

+1 to leeo
1) wrong section (as already been mentioned)
2) most samsung apps are heavily dependant on the touchwiz framework. This is the reason you don't see any of these samsung apps in other custom roms like MIUI or any AOSP/AOKP rom.
If there are apps that are portable to other roms, then they have already been ported by other users, just google search and if you can't find the apps already ported to other roms, then you don't even need to bother trying as they are too much dependant on the samsung framework ^^
p.s. if its ported from tw to tw roms then it doesn't count as the framework the apps rely on is present in both
As per advice by all other member, it is not possible to implement Samsung app on an aosp or cm based rom like miui.
But you can still use the current support rom by miui team for note ii n7100 that based on sammy rom 4.1.2 like aminalmo miui port rom for at&t
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2071480
it has most of sammy 4.1.2 feature and based on miui. It still unofficial for n7105 so there might be bugs.
just make sure you don't flash the n7100 and hope someone will port the latest n7100 miui official rom to n7105.
Thanks everyone for you your responses.
Even though MIUI don't have any official support or development on this device, since its not International version.
Cheers
