Can you share the name of the zip and where you got it? I just downloaded one from a thread here, but it's named Blur_Version.1.2.148.MB870.Verizon.en.US.zip, and when I go into the About Phone menu on my phone, the System Version is 1.2.148.MB870.Verizon.en.US also. The Android Version is 2.2.2 though.

"patching system files" right now. any idea on how long it takes? Kinda unsure every OTA/update i ever flashed on the NS/N1 was always quick
EDIT: done, first boot right now <3 god how i miss gingerbreadness, even if it is with ****ty UI
Now to wait for a 2.3.3 root method

everybody got the links?

dam phone is like a new one

Well, I thought I would wait for Moto, but things went south and I couldn't take it anymore. I went with the update that you gave and I've installed it successfully. I guess I'll truly have to wait now until someone talented finally gets root back on this version - not to mention we still have hope for an unlocked bootloader so that some real customization can begin to take place.
Thanks for everything y'all. It looks nice, we'll see how the speed is - not to mention it will be nice just if it stops rebooting on its own.

[GUIDE] How to Root the HTC EVO 3D [Video Walkthrough]

A big thanks to Bentenrai and his initial thread for rooting the EVO 3D, off which I created this guide, eugene373 for the temp root solution, Team Win, UnrEVOked and AlphaRev, and anyone else that has helped make this happen.
Some of you may know my video guides from the EVO and I'm bringing those simple tutorials to the EVO 3D. This guide is a complete video walkthrough on how to root the EVO 3D with edits based on the issues that some may run into with previous guides. Without further ado, let's get started!
LINK TO VIDEO WALKTHROUGH FOR HOW TO ROOT THE EVO 3D
◄●REQUIRED DOWNLOADS●►
Just download, do not install or run anything yet.
Temp Root File - RW EVO 3D
Android SDK - This guide uses the r12 Windows Installer
HTC Driver Pack
Revolutionary Exploit - Select OS and download. Leave the page open. Do not run yet.
TWRP Recovery - Download PG86IMG.zip version or just click this direct link.
Superuser file
◄●Instructions●►
This guide starts by temp rooting the phone so that we can back up our apps and all their data. If you don't want to do this, you can skip to the Full Root Section.
◄●Temp Root to Backup Apps●►
Keep your phone unplugged and restart it
Make sure that HTC Sync is not installed on your computer
Click the Start button in Windows
Type uninstall a program in the search box and hit Enter
Make sure HTC Sync does not show up in the list. If it does, uninstall it
Download the HTC Driver Pack and the Temp Root File
Double click and install the HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe you just downloaded
Unzip the RW_EVO_3D file by right clicking and selecting Extract All
On your phone, go to Menu>Settings>Applications>Development and make sure USB debugging is CHECKED
On your computer, open the RW_EVO_3D folder that you just extracted and run the Run_ME_Fr3vo_ROOT batch file by double clicking.
Plug in your phone when you see "waiting for device" in the command prompt. It will then initiate the temporary root.
On your phone, download Titanium Backup from the Android Market and open it.
Hit the Menu button on your phone and select Batch.
Under the Backup section, click "RUN" for Backup all user apps
◄●Full Root Section●►
This is the full root section for those that don't care about backing up their apps.
◄●Clear Traces of Past Temp Root●►
Clear all traces of the temporary root
On your phone, go to Menu>Settings>SD & phone storage
Select Factory data reset
Click Reset Phone
Click Erase Everything and your phone will reboot and do the factory reset
When the phone restarts, unlock the phone and skip through the whole setup wizard
Go to Menu>Settings>Applications>Development and make USB Debugging is CHECKED
Go to the Dialer(Phone) and dial ##3282#
Select View Mode
Select Data Profile
Write down the email under "User Name" (this may get erased in the root process. If we write this down, we can just put it back in after root if the Profile Update fails)
◄●Install Android SDK●►
On your computer download the Android SDK for your OS (this guide will work with Windows and Linux). This guide uses the r12 Windows Installer.
Run the exe file that you just downloaded by double clicking on it and install the Android SDK. I change the install location to C:/android-sdk
If you don't have Java installed, click the link it gives you, download JDK Java SE 6 and select your OS (I'm on Windows 64bit). Run the file and install Java. Once complete, just hit Back on the Android SDK installer and then Next.
◄●Install Drivers and Prepare for Root●►
Make sure your phone is NOT connected to the computer.
Make sure that HTC Sync is not installed on your computer (if you didn't do the temp root section)
Click the Start button in Windows
Type uninstall a program in the search box and hit Enter
Make sure HTC Sync does not show up in the list. If it does, uninstall it
Download the HTC Driver Pack (if you didn't do the temp root section) and install the HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe you just downloaded.
Plug in your phone to the computer. If it asks where to install drivers from, just select Install Automatically.
Download the Revolutionary Exploit by selecting your OS (I'm using Windows).
Leave the page open as we will use it later
Right click the revolutionary file you just downloaded by right clicking and selecting Extract All.
Download the TWRP Recovery - Download PG86IMG.zip version or just click this direct link.
Go to the this PG86IMG-twrp-shooter zip file that you just downloaded and rename it "PG86IMG" with NO .zip at the end. Your computer knows its a zip file.
Put your phone into disk drive mode by dragging down the notification bar, click Charge Only and change it to Disk Drive mode.
On your computer, transfer the PG86IMG zip file to the phone. Don't put it inside any folder, just drag it on the the Removable Disk that is your phone and wait for it to transfer.
◄●Apply S-Off and Flash Recovery●►
Go to the revolutionary exploit folder that you extracted and run the "revolutionary" application file that is inside by double clicking.
It will give you your serial number. If it doesn't this can be found under your battery on your phone or on the box your phone came in. Open up the revolutionary.io page that we left open (after downloading the exploit) and put this serial number into the Serial Number section.
Select your operating system, device, and HBOOT version (also shown in the command prompt from the revolutionary exploit that we are running).
Click Generate Key and type the key it gives you into the open command prompt and hit enter. Let it the exploit run. It may reboot a few times.
It will ask if you want to install ClockworkMod recovery. I select n for No, but you can say yes. It may crash. If it does. Just skip it. We will install a recovery now anyways.
Your phone should now be in Fastboot and say S-Off at the top. Use the Volume Down button to go down to Power Down. Click the power button on your phone to select it.
Take off the back of the phone and take out the battery for 10 seconds.
Put the battery back in, put the back on, HOLD the Volume Down button and then press and HOLD the Power Button at the same time and it will boot into HBOOT .
It will ask if you want to start update (of the PG86IMG.zip that we put on the phone). Press Volume Up for yes.
◄●Install Superuser Permissions●►
When it is done, we need to delete the file. So press the Power Button to reboot the phone and let it start up. PLUG IN your phone while its booting up.
Your phone will go through Hands Free Activation. Let it do this and then press OK.
Let it do the PRL Update and press OK.
Cancel the firmware update or just wait for it to fail.
Drag down the notification bar and put your phone into disk drive mode. If it doesn't show up, unplug your phone and plug it back in.
On your computer, delete the PG86IMG.zip from your phone.
Download this Superuser file and transfer it to the phone to the same location as the deleted PG86IMG (i.e. not inside any folder, just directly on the phone).
Power off the phone(hold the Power Button and select Power Off)
Wait for it to completely turn off. Once off hold down the Volume Down button and the Power Button to boot into HBOOT. If it doesn't boot into HBOOT, take out the battery, put it back in, and try again.
Use the Volume Down button to go down to Recovery and select it by pressing the Power Button
Once in recovery, select Install Zip (by pressing the power button)
Select Choose Zip to Flash (by pressing the power button)
Use the Volume Down button to go down to the superuser zip file that we put on the phone and select it by pressing the Power Button.
It will install quickly. Use the Volume Down button to go down to Reboot and select it with the Power Button
You are now complete rooted with S-Off and a custom recovery. Once booted, you can login to Google, download Titanium Backup, and Restore your apps by opening TB, hitting Menu>Batch and selecting Restore all apps with data
You're now rooted!
◄●Notes●►
I can't make calls or send text messages (Error 16): ~Thanks bk718~
Make a phone call to anyone/any number and stay on the phone.
It will automatically connect you to a particular sprint department that handles this issue. It should take just a couple minutes and they will fix the error.
Updating my profile fails:
Download "MSL Reader" from the market and run it to get your MSL, a 6 digit number
Go to the Dialer(Phone) and dial ##3282#
Select Edit Mode
Select Data Profile
If it already shows your User Name, press Menu>Restore
Input under "User Name" the email address that you wrote done before rooting.
Press Menu>Commit Modifications
Very nice, clean guide. Will try it out when I get home.

nice guide but you don't have to backup any apps as apps aren't touched when rooting, see this guide also: http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-3d-hacks/how-to-root-htc-evo-3d/

Hey Max,
Yes you're right. I just find it beneficial to do the quick temp root to back everything up in case anything goes wrong. I also always feel having a clean slate is the best way to go. Because of that, you'd need to backup prior to rooting. Thanks for the feedback and nice work on your site.

I've followed these instructions to a T. But when I run Revolutionary, it says Root acquired, and reboots to Fastboot, but it still says S-On, and I cannot continue with the instructions as written. Any ideas?

Yeah. I even hard reset my phone and put it back to s-on. (had s-off but my internet failed b4 the clock work mod was installed) so I thought that was the problem but I guess not. I've only gotten 2 beta keys so far. Should I try another internet browser or something? Racking my brain on what the problem is.

Try doing another factory reset on your phone, turning fastboot off, and running it again. These auto-roots are sometimes finicky.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Added a "Notes" section to the guide that addresses this and any other issues that come up.

Accidentally tried flashing GSM rom onto CDMA D:

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong section, didnt quite feel like it belonged in the development forum.
Now to the problem. I downloaded a root thing for gsm. Read the instructions and went oops thats for gsm. I cant post links because I am a new member but if you search for thread "ICS 4.0.4 upgrade guide - "not so permanent now"" on here you will find the page/instructions/link. Went on searching. However having way too many windows open on my little laptop screen with a touch pad thats too sensitive i accidentally somehow clicked on something in that folder because I am an idiot and left the window open. Lesson learned...close/delete **** that doesnt apply to my phone. I think i clicked either Rootexplorer.apk or whatever was on top or below (fastboot or step 1 - flash 403) it since that is where my mouse was approx when something popped up and my phone did something (lesson 2, dont leave phone plugged in to computer)
I have been searching furiously and have all but given up and am ready to go out and buy a new phone tomorrow...ouch...
I am hoping that somebody here might know of something. My phone was freshly updated to 4.04 before it happened. Please try to keep the flaming to a minimum but understandably i deserve some of it but im feeling pretty miserable as it is already. Thanks in advance for any help you guys may provide.
I'm no expert, but I would think of you can still get into fastboot you can saved your phone. I'm droidrzr.com there's plenty of people that use fastboot to go from one ics leak to another. Maybe you can do something like that. I don't know razrs all that well. Sorry if this was a useless post.....
Sent from my DROID RAZR
Google "matts razr utility 1.7"
Download and run.
Make sure your phone is connected to your PC and in ap fastboot mode,
Select option 1
Follow directions from there.
also, make sure you have .211.xt912.en.us on the root of your EXTERNAL SD card before you start the utility.
This should at least get you on the stock cdma ics.
EDIT:
Download
Verizon, 6.16.211.en.US
Unzip the file, copy the 2 files to Root of your EXTERNAL SDCARD
Follow this: droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr/213197-offical-ota-zip-installation-guide-droid-razr-razr-maxx.html
Copied from there:
1. Download the official OTA "Blur_Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zip " file from above.
2. Place the file downloaded in step one into the ROOT of your EXTERNAL SD card. (DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE)
3. Turn off phone.
4. Go into recovery by pressing and holding the Volume Up (+), Volume Down (-), and Power button all three at the same time. (Press and hold all physical buttons.)
5. The menu will come up and select "Recovery".(Volume Down key to go down and Volume Up key to SELECT/ENTER Recovery.)
*The Android and Exclamation mark logos will come up*
6. Press both Volume Up (+) and the Volume Down (-) buttons at the same time. Release.
7. With the Volume Down (-) button go down to "Wipe CACHE partition" and press the Power button to select it. DO THIS TWICE (Don't worry your data will not get erased by wiping the cache.) (Thanks smmfc)
8. With the Volume Down (-) button go down to "Apply Update from SDCard" and press the Power button to select it.
9. Volume Down (-) go to the “Blur_Version.6.12.173.XT912.Verizon.en.US.zi p” and select it with the Power button. (This is the one we put in the External SD in Step 2.)
10. It will take a while to upgrade, mine isn't even done yet and I started it when I started to write Step 1
11. Once it is done, go to "Reboot system now."
12. Official ICS, Enjoy!!! =D
Once it's your first time starting ICS, it WILL take a while to load up, it is normal, it will also be "Optimizing applications" at first start up.
-----------------------------------------
Just extract the blur version zip and place it on the root of external SD, then run utility
All of this can be done from your PC if you have a card reader.
Don't thank me, thank matt for his awesome utility if it works.

Root for M350K Galaxy M Style?

There is no fofum for my phone, does anyone know of a guide on how to get root on the M Style? The universal Samsung root for flashing in stock recovery doesnt work, super one click doesnt work, and xray say my device is immune to the known exploits. Im willing to root the hard way if I have too, just need steps so I dont brick my phone. Must... Delete... Bloat...
Edit- M340K, sorry.
Bump... Anyone know how to root this thing?
One more bump in case anyone else needs this, I found this finally.

Its a standard Odin flash, all the odin files and pre-rooted rom are linked here. You can flash it as an update and keep everything, no need to wipe. It does install some carrier bloat (so I had two sets of bloat) but its rooted, so you can get rid of all of it.

I just recently rooted my Samsung M Style SHW-M340S phone.
[GUIDE]
1. Download the attachment that I uploaded.
2. Transfer the zip file to the root of your sdcard either by connecting your phone to your computer or wirelessly (Do not unzip the file).
3. Turn off your phone.
4. Go into Recovery Mode by holding down the home button, volume up button, volume down button, and the power button at the same time. Once you see the SAMSUNG logo show up, release the power button and you should see the recovery menu. Select "apply update from sdcard". Use the volume up and down buttons to scroll up and down the menu. Press the home button to select your option.
5. Use the volume up and down buttons and choose the zip file.
6. After the update is complete, choose the option to "reboot system now".
7. After the phone finishes restarting, you now have a rooted phone.
Note: I'm not sure if this will work on a M340K/L phone as I don't have those phones to test out.

Guide - Manually updating Dell Venue 8 to 4.3

If you're like me, and your tablet didn't want to update to 4.3, fear not. I have your solution.
Thanks to @xdajunkman for the file required...
01. Connect your tablet to your pc
02. Download the first update zip file from @xdajunkman https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u..._US_user_signed_update_gota_package_32-39.zip
03. Copy the zip file to a microsd card inserted into your tablet ( I also renamed it to update.zip)
04. Press the Volume down + power button simultaneously, to boot into droidboot mode. (you would see the Dell Logo and then the Droidboot screen).
05. Use Volume down to select the third option and press power button to boot into recovery mode.
06. In recovery mode (droid on his back with his belly open), press the Power button + Volume up simultaneously, to display recovery mode menu. (hold them down for a second or two)
07. In recovery mode use Volume down to select update from external storage
08. Select the zip file
09. Wait for it to finish
10. Repeat steps 3-9 with the second update from @xdajunkman's post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48958168&postcount=219
10. After it completes press the power button to reboot
11. Enjoy 4.3
It worked for me, Your Mileage may vary.
EDIT:
It appears this will only work if you have one of the tablets that will not take the root exploit.

If you're like me, and your tablet didn't want to update to 4.3, fear not. I have your solution.
Thanks to @xdajunkman for the file required...
01. Connect your tablet to your pc
02. Download the update zip file from @xdajunkman's post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48958168&postcount=219
03. Copy the zip file to a microsd card inserted into your tablet
04. Press the Volume down + power button to boot into droidboot mode. (you would see the Dell Logo and then the Droidboot screen).
05. Use Volume down to select the third option and press power button to boot into recovery mode.
06. In recovery mode (droid on his back with his belly open), press the Power button + Volume up to display recovery mode menu. (hold them down for a second or two)
07. In recovery mode use Volume down to select update from external storage
08. Select the zip file from @xdajunkman's post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48958168&postcount=219

It may have worked for me because my tablet downloaded the 4.3 update on it's own, but it never applied it.
Ideas?

Possibly a bad Download or are you rooted and messed with build prop at all?

Perhaps the problem is that it appears they may be more than one build of 4.2.2 on this device. Some can root with Cydia, some cannot. Perhaps this update file works for those of us who have a build that can't be rooted. Perhaps there is another update file for other build(s) of 4.2.2 for this device.
Don't know....just thinking....

Zip opens on PC and android so good download. No modify date on build.prof is consistent with the rest of the dates of the build. Donno if there are some other factors that would change but leave the file the same date. Maybe the jdq39 bit has something to do with it. Thats whats in my build.prof I'm holding off for now till I see progress or get the update normally.

I think its like xdajunkman said, some tablets can and can't be rooted so the update might be different for some tablets. The best thing to do for now is wait till the OTA is released.

Mine wouldn't take root, but it took the update with no problems. I definitely think some were patched. I had a small 4.2.2 update applied right when I booted for the first time out of the box. Sucks cuz I root everything I own, but I'll just have to wait I guess.
Anyway, thank y'all for the manual update instructions and zip.

Mine could not be rooted either. It also had a 6 meg update right after initial power up.
That must be the common denominator
I'm glad it helped someone at least.
Here is an idea - this is the update for 4.2.2 that installed once I powered the thing on for the first time:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u..._US_user_signed_update_gota_package_32-39.zip
Try installing this one first, then the 4.3 update. Maybe that will work. Note that using this update might make you unable to root and will break root if you have it already.

Android 6.0 Xperia S need immediate help pls

Hello guys! My name is derek. Im new to installing custom ROMs and i need help. So the thing is i wanted to install android 6.0 on my xperia s and i downloaded the 6.0 rom package. After that i went into recovery mode using CWM and i wiped all data. Next i pressed "install from sdcard" and i searched for the 6.0 package and i installed it. After that i pressed "reboot system now" and it showed the sony logo and then it showed four colorful dots that i think it might be a sign that it is loading. Is this normal? PS:NEED IMMEDIATE HELP!!!

4 colourful dots? Can you maybe attach a photo or... In theory if it loads for a relatively long time, it is probably bricked (normally soft bricked if the phone can still power on but is stuck in a bootloop)
Did you also install gapps? If you didnt install gapps the rom should still work but gapps gives you all the important apps you need for your phone

Gapps is technically required if you want all the functioning google apps such as play store, youtube, chrome etc.
The 4 coloured dots should be the sign that marshmallow 6.0 has been installed and is loading, but if the loading takes too long (leave it overnight if it is still loading to see if it will boot up the following day), then it may not have been installed correctly. If that is the case you should boot into recovery and factory reset the device (this time taking consideration of installing gapps), and attempt to boot the device again. If all else fails the rom may just simply not work for the device and thus you may have to restore your stock rom.

To enter recovery mode in Sony Xperia S:
1. Turn off the phone
2. Press the power button again and the moment you see a pink light coming from the sensor next to the front facing camera, press the volume up button repeatedly (keep pressing until the phone boots into recovery)

It may be in the internal storage of the device then. For future reference, when flashing roms, its recommended to place the rom.zip file in the root (the first thing you see when you enter the sd card) of the sd card. You should also "clear cache" after flashing any rom.

If you can't find it you can always just place the rom.zip that you downloaded from your pc into the root of your storage.

Hi again so i installed 6.0 successfully but i forgot to install gapps and i don't know how to enter recovery mode again. I tried power button and volume up key but it doesn't work. The way i installed it was to follow a guy in youtube saying that i should install the ADB Interface to repartition my phone and after that he said i should flash the rom now. After 2 mins of booting up it works. But there is no play store and other google apps. Please help me how to boot into recovery mode again. BTW this is my kernel version: 3.4.0-perf-gfa085ac-00327-g5b0d87d-dirty
