SBF back to Froyo from GB works - Motorola Droid X2

Check p3droid's twitter. He said it's a go...
Now all we need is a prerooted GB build, then it's SBF number 3 (this week) for me!

Thank you for having the balls to test this

I unrooted first but the update failed thru stock android recovery due to my transparent power widget so i sbfd then immediately ran the 2.3.3 update thru stock recovery. I can now in faith say the 2.2.2 sbf works as i am staring at a little green android right now

only odd thing i noticed after the 2.2.2 sbf from 2.3 is that the blur launchers homescreens did not have ANY widgets loaded at all, just blank screens

[Q] I'm new to Droid and I'm totally lost about GB update

Helo guys, I used to own a Samsung Galaxy S, and last week I got the Droid X2 from Verizon. So now I'm seeing new terms being used like sbf, debloat, freeze, etc...
My DX2 is root and I also have the V6 Supercharger, and I still can't get the GB update.
I believe many users on this forum have the same case as mine, so can anyone give us steps to follow in order to get the update.
Thank you so much
sbf back to stock using rsd.
download the gb update, flash in recovery
look under general in Droid x2 forums
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA Premium App
I came from a similar situation. I just got the x2 as a replacement for my fascinate due to repetitive missed call issues. I updated to Gingerbread today using the tips on this forum & the file posted to the mediafire link. The first thing you'll need to do for this update to work is undue all the non-stock modifications you've done.
Unsupercharge
Unfreeze or replace any stock apps you may have uninstalled. This is where the sbf comes in, it's the stock image that was loaded when it left the factory.
Unroot, might not be necessary but its better safe than sorry. Especially since this update is unrootable atm.
Rename the downloaded file update.zip & put it in the root of your sdcard-ext.
Flash from the stock recovery & you should be good.
Whatever other info you need, search these threads-its in there somewhere.

The SBF does infact restore you to stock 2.2.2
It should also be the first thing you do when you get the phone (before rooting etc) It blows my mind that people would mess with their device without doing an SBF at least once.
The SBF will usually require you to battery pull at the end, go to stock Android recovery and wipe data and cache. (unless you did that before running the SBF)
On Vista and Windows 7 make sure you right click RSDlite and choose to "run as admin"
Everyone who did the OTA or the 2.3 update from here at XDA and wants p3droids rooted update is going to have to SBF momentarily. We should get rooted 2.3 this afternoon according to p3's twitter
I unrooted my phone and uninstalled the Supercharger, I sbf'd back to stock Froyo successfully, and still I can't get the update. What else should I do?

GREAT, you have completed step one. Do not load anything else on your phone. You will not be getting a over the air update.
You have more work to do to get 2.3.3 on your phone.
Just follow the direction at this link.

Just to be clear.... He should eventually get an OTA update if he waits long enough. But he won't be able to root it. So follow the link above, and do those steps to install the rooted version of the update from 3Pdroid.
(Yeah I know that's obvious, but the title of this thead DOES include the words, "I'm Totally Lost". )
Thanks all, I'm on the pre-rooted GB now
Much appreciated

[Q] Root + GB 2.33 Auto Update

Hello all. My phone is trying to auto-update itself to GB...2.33. However, I am currently rooted...which I do not want to lose.
If the phone updates itself, is there currently any way to re-root the phone?
Thanks
- Steve
Well, I auto updated this morning while I was rooted. The OTA update went fine but I have lost root. If anyone can figure out how I can regain root in 2.3.3, I would forever be in your debt.
Thanks!

Yes, it's true. You can update to 2.3, then SBF back to Froyo 2.2. Then grab P3's Pre-Root 2.3 GB update, and flash it. Follow these instructions.
Don't hold me to it, but you can probably use P3's to go straight from 2.2 to 2.3, without updating first, then SBF'ing back to Froyo. I could be wrong though, and I'm not responsible.
There may be an apk responsible for this. I'm not sure, but could FOTA.apk be Forced OTA? I haven't tried freezing this, but is someone willing to try?
I don't think that's it.
I just froze "Updater 2.2.2" using Titanium Backup and restarted the phone...I don't see a popup anymore. Hopefully that stops the OTA until I can install it and root.
I have the phone setup just the way I want it right now...I doubt the 2.33 would make any much of a difference.
Here is what you do...
.sbf back to 2.2.2
boot up and re-setup the phone (*228)
use gingerbreak to root it
install the recovery app
download p3's update.zip and place it in the root of your sdcard-ext
boot to recovery and hit the sdcard:update.zip option
There are more detailed instructions in this subforum if you look.

Dang! Okay so just follow all those instructions... I know its early but of the FEW roms available, do you guys like eclipse the best??
seems like a lot of work lolol...
You do not have to go back to froyo. As a matter of speaking, it will not work if you go all the way back to froyo because you still need a gb kernel.
Never mind. I'm wrong for not reading. I didn't realize that you were on stock gb. With stock gb, yes you need to go back.
Once you are on rooted GB, you can use the bootstrap recovery to flash any of the custom roms available for GB without going back to froyo every time. The real chore is getting rooted.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA Premium App
Sweet so we can always switch roms! nice, dang, I wish I could have someone root my phone lol
Okay, so here is basically what you need to do.
1. sbf back to froyo
2. Go find the link to p3droid's pre-rooted gb update.
3. Install bootstrap for your phone.
4. Find your rom that's right for you.
5. Use bootstrap.
6. ???
7. Profit!
Hope this helps

What do you mean by bootstrap. When I first rooted I had an app that let me boot into recovery. Is that bootstrap? If so once i updated to p3's gb I don't see that app anymore. This is probably a really lame issue, but some clarification would be greatly appreciated!
Once on p3's GB, reinstall the bootstrap recovery app, and use it to flash the eclipse rom.

Going from 2.3.4 to 2.3.3

I sbf'd to 2.3.4 earlier today and installed eclipse v1.0. my question is, since flashing the new sbf did update the kernel am I still able to flash 2.3.3 based roms without issues?
I want to flash the Atrix rom port to try the webtop hdmi hack.
No and if you manage to load a 2.3.3 ROM you will not get far. You will likely end up with a boot loop. I believe this was tested in one of the other threads and the person found it failed.

This is true. I tried to go back to eclipse 0.8 after the 2.3.4 sbf and it just boot looped. This is because the kernel was updated in with the 2.3.4 sbf. The Atrix 2.3.4 port runs on the old kernel from our X2 2.3.3. I would expect trying to load the Atrix port on the new kernel will also boot loop. That's my 2 cents worth.

So as of right now i'm stuck on eclipse v1.0, not that thats a bad thing. need more 2.3.4 roms, quick. need to fix my flashing addiction. lol
Why are you stuck? Are you opposed to SBFing back to 2.3.3 for some reason?
sbf'ing just takes to long. and I really like 2.3.4
To long? That sux.
I keep the files all in one folder on my sisters computer. It only takes 15minutes max to sbf. An extra 3 to root.
Im curious what takes long about it? Do u go get a new file every time?

the 2.3.5 SBF kinda doesn't make sense right now unless you want to stick with it cause you can't root it. You have to root 2.3.4 then apply the rootkeeper and then get to 2.3.5 via OTA update or flash via recovery.
