[Q] SD wont mount/get ready after 2.3.3 recovery images - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings all! Not sure if it was resolved somewhere or not before..
But basically after I've gone to 2.3.3 with recovery images like WB-XPERIA TW Gingerbread | Hotfix 1 | 2350 Downloads already! | 30/7/2011 and [RECOVERY image] [Prerooted + Recovery] X10 GB 3.0.1.G.0.752
With both I come up with a result of my SD card not mounting and it says in storage that Total space "Unavailable" and Available Space "Unavailable"
I tried re-seating my memory card, rebooting many times and so on.
What did I do wrong to cause this? And how can I solve it?
How I did WB's recovery tut:
1) I was on 2.1 version and .54 baseband,
2) rooted and installed xrecovery through flashtool
3) rebotted into xrecovery and did the following as it says (factory reset, wipe cache etc.)
4) installed the custom .zip of WB that he has provided
5) after done with install w/o leaving xrecovery I took out battery, waited for few secs and re-seated it
6) with flashtool got ready to do the 2.3.3 kernel and bb flash
7) got in flash mode and flashed it
8) then restarted and my sd did not mount, but other stuff works fine (baseband (2.1.71), Android version (2.3.3) etc. are recognized fine)
What am I doing wrong? =/ Please help, because it is getting frustrating =/
cheers!
PS: Sorry for post in general section >_< I failed

I am having the same problem on my x10
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

I had the same problem.... I followed this -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
I copied the files into their relevant System locations and all was fine again

thank you for the info, i get it working

Hello,
Can you reply with the exact location where you copied the files to?
I went thru the above thread for xRec, but I'm still not confident that I know where to extract the files and folders contained in zip file.
I did a search using Astro but couldn't find a META-INF.
Thanks,
B.

However, when booting normally to android, all programs still state that SD card is not available....

I have same issue too =/ it lets me mount my sd in xrec now after updating it, but when booted normally it does not work.

Well, at least i'm not the only one with this problem.
When booted normally, and using adb, it says sdcard is write protected. In oter threads people mention a notification that sd card should be formatted. I dont get that notification. Perhaps I should format wihout initializing fat filesystem?

I solved my issue, what I did was go back to 2.1, flash baseband to .67 then root and install xrecovery, also formatted my SD, then gone to xrecovery did what WB's tut says that is do factory reset etc. flashed the rom, took out the battery, re-seated it, then flashed bb .71 and done, it worked.
Hope it helps someone!
cheers!

Maybe it works for you to?

I tried both options, but still no sd...

Edit:
So this morning I borrowed the microSD (Samsung 4GB) card from a colleague, and my phone just recognized it. I guess I'll just by a new card, but since my current one is a Kingston, I still think it's strange it's no longer working under 2.3.3

Getting closer...

Background information in case you haven't seen my other posts:
Had to recover from softbrick with ODIN. Done
Updated to Eugene's Froyo with root through ODIN. Done.
Installed ROM manager and flashed recovery. Done.
I cannot enter CW recovery at all.
When I get to USB mode and I open the files to look at them, I have Avatar on e: and everything else on f:. I noticed I have on the f: drive an external-sd and another folder that shows sd.
When I try to install packages to get to CW recovery i get this error message:
e: can't open
/sdcard/update.zip file or directory not valid.
I thought f: was my external sd and f: (w/avater on it) was the external sd. Could something have happened from one of my earlier ROMS that is still stuck on the internal sd ( I had 2.1 Bionix 1.9 with Jac's OCUV/OCLF with ext2 enabled).
Need help. I would love to flash Nero V3 or Eugene's Gingerbread, but since I can't even enter CW recovery, it won't be possible unless I do it through ODIN and I barely got through that without losing my marbles (ODIN is way over my head, but S15724N and FEARLESS1964 got me through it (Thanks to them again).
edit: wondering what would happen if i changed drive letters, or if i added the update.zip to the external card where avatar is?
I may have fixed my own problem. I moved ROM Manager to the internal phone memory through the apps management and it seems to be working. Antone know if I need to leave the update.zip from clockwork recovery in the root directory or can it be moved?

leave it there...its not gonna hurt anything...keep update.zip on the internal sd....really nothing but avatar should be on the external

Unable to install custom ROM on mini pro

I really hope someone can help me out here. I have x10mini pro. I am on stock rom,build2.1.1.a.0.6,standard (never tried custom yet) but now that I see a lot of interesting Rom's I would like to try one. Here's what I did; installed Xrecovery via AAIS, then CWM and now the dual-recovery zip. (I also tried xrec/cwm seperately) So I can chose to use XREC or CWM. Now here's my problem; I am unable to install ANY Rom I have tried so far (gingerbread roms's i.e Gintonic.se but also 2.1.1.Clean.0.0 which is a normal 2.1 rom and flashable via xrec only) won't install.
Everytime I get:
cant open /sdcard/Roms/x.zip 'installation aborted' (bad) I have tried a different SD card (standard) but the same problem persists....I can not believe I am unable to install a custom ROM but I am completely stuck with my problem. I am rooted/xrec working/cwm working...I can install small updates (ie cwm via xrec&dual-recovery.zip) but NOT a complete Rom...Whywhywhy...It is driving me crazy!!! Can someone from this fantastic forum help me please?
Hi u find all ansers in q and a this is dev thread bro

Thanks for trying to help me as well mukptl! How can I check MD5 after copying? You know what is also strange? when I make a backup in cwm i get an error saying: "no /sdcard/.android_secure found.
Skipping backup of applications on external storage...backing up cache.... no sd-ext found (normal, dont have ext partition on my sd's)
generating md5 sum....backup complete!" I am able to run recovery with this though. Still not able to install any rom's I have tried to install via cwm/xrecovery...not even a 2.1 rom
Did you download on PC and then transfer to SD-card or did you download directly to your phone?
I expierences that once also with a ROM downloaded directly to my phone.... a fresh new download on my PC instead fixed it, and then transfer to phone via USB-cable.
Can you open the zip-file on your computer (just to see if it's valid)?
don#t copy your rom in a file folder
only copy the zip to SD
like /sdcard/

wen you back up your phone with cwm its back up also your app on your sd ext if you have so if you dont have sd ext then it say no sd ext found
thats nomal i think
for md5 check there is many software to calculate md5 just search on google and download on your pc
then calculate md5 of you downloaded zip on your pc
then copy the zip on your sd card then calculate md5 of the zip on sd card
if its comes dif then previous one then your zip isnt copyed well
I downloaded on my PC first. I tried with rom on my sd card directly as well...tried with 3 sd cards (class 2/4)...all the same problem. Somehow xrecovery/cwm can not open these files...but I am able to install small update files (also when they are in a directory on my sd) for instance cwm recovery/dual-recovery.zip ...same file extension, same way of coping to my sd...somehow it must have something to do with the files/sd card but what?? Went back to stock via seus...xrecovery via aais, installed cwm via xrecovery...same problem still...I am going insane...I really want to be able to install a custom rom

edit: ok md5 does not match between file on my pc and file on my sd..really do not know why but looking for it..maybe I should extract and then create the archive directly to my sd card or something? any help is welcome!
Edit2: I finally found a solution, it was simple in the end.. I formatted sd again, downloaded files again en checked them after moving to sd. All is fine now, I am running gintonic by slade..perfect so far! Thread can be closed. Thanks for your help!
how do you disconnect your phone from the PC again?
Remember to use eject usb on the computer first.

Help for a newbie with CWM

Hey guys, I recently got the Galaxy SII. Its rooted running Android 2.3.5 GINGERBREAD.DUKJ1.
My issue is trying to run ZIP files from my SD card using ClockWorkMod. I put the files into the SD card root folder and then boot into CWM. When I go run zip file from SD card there is nothing there. CWM cant see any of my files.
I have sucessfully booted ZIPS by placing them in the Phone folder instead of the SD card folder. If I go into My files and then under sdcard/external_sd I can see the file I put on there. CWM just refuses to see these files. When I connect my phone I see 2 folders, Card and Phone. I am putting these zip files in Card. I assume this is correct? Can anyone help?
Cheers
mount ur int sd card
Thanks for the reply, while waiting for a reply I unmounted the SD card, formatted it and then remounted it. I dropped another zip file, once again made sure I could see it in file manager and it was there. Booted in CWM, went to install zip file, went to ext_sd folder and it still says no file found. Under storage the SD card is listed there. Any ideas?

Sounds like you are using version 4.x of CWM, this does not support native updating from dual memory (So it only ever looks at phone memory, while you can manually mount and then update it's not as simple a process and often steps get forgotten)... if you just update to the newer CWM you will see another option appear on the list (apply update from internal memory)... making it much clearer and easier to update. (Or just use your phone memory to hold the zip files, it really doesn't matter that much)
I think you are right, it says v4.0.0.2. Would someone be kind enough to point me to where the latest version is?
Edit- nevermind I think I found it.
Thanks guys

This question is not relevant, as he is referring to Recovery Mode. (Debugging is only optional through normal OS, and can not be changed in recovery without rebuilding the kernel)
Everything is all good guys, the new version of CWM allows me to boot from my SD card and it installed ICS perfect. Thanks again

Help: Cant mount my external SD card under ClockworkMod Recovery

Can anybody help me with this?? (apologies - I first posted thisin the 'General' forum and then realised it should have been put into the Q&A section)
ClockworkMod Recovery (v6.0.1.0) will not mount my SD card (SanDisk 64GB Micro SDXC Ultra Card) and posts "Error mounting /external_sd!"
I have successfully rooted my phone (GT-I9300 running the stock I9300XXBLFB at present) by following the various threads on XDA.
I formatted the sandisk SD card by using the S3's menu>settings>storage>format SD Card. The card is then visible when I run the the "My Files" app, showing both the internal /mnt sdcard and my new /mnt extSdCard which shows a total of 59.47GB space.
I subsequently installed the 'ROM Manager Premium v5.0.0.8" app from the Play Store and then flashed "ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.1.1".
My problem is that when I run ClockworkMod Recovery and select 'Recovery Mode' - 'mounts and storage'/'mount /external_sd' the app wont mount the SD card stating "Error mount /external_sd"
What am I doing wrong. I have searched the forum for similar problems but have drawn a blank unfortunately. Is it a known issue with the SanDisk 64GB Micro SDXC Ultra Card?
I am confused because the "My Files' app can see the card but the ClockworkMod Recovery app cannot.
I am trying to mount the external SD card so that my PC can recognise it and transfer some new downloaded ROMs to it.
A related (or maybe not) issue is that when I open the CWM Manager app it shows the following warning "this version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-CWM .1.1 or newer. It appears that you are running a different recovery. Various features have been disabled."
Help!!!!! Although I registered on XDA in 2006 I have been in the Android wilderness for several years having 'jumped ship' to the iPhone before returning back to the Android fold.
Unfortunately my knowledge isnt what it once was and I need a helping hand.
Thanks in advance to all who take the time to read this.

Recovery - ClockWorkMod (CWM)
A custom CWM 5.5 build is included in CF-Root, taken from this thread. This provides for the ability to install custom ROMs, and do nandroid (full device) backups and restores. Now also support OTA updates, but an OTA update itself will probably remove CWM, so you need re-flash CF-Root after OTA.
Not compatible with ROM Manager ! Use the CWM Manager provided instead (installed by CF-Root automatically)
Util - CWM Manager
My management application for CWM is also installed, see the recovery thread linked above for further details. It allows you to command CWM (install a ROM, make/restore backups, etc) from normally booted Android.
1st of all the cwm version your using is flakey at best with extsdcard support its something that has only been introduced in version 6.0.1.0 and seems to be still giving bother. If you want extsdcard support I would recommend chainfires version which is non touch but vgood extsdcard support.(find it in original android development)
Secondly cwm manager is the app to use with chainfires cwm versions not the other cwm versions flying around.

Thanks for the helping hand JJEgan .. very much appreciated. I am finding the learning curve for Android a bit steep at the mo because of my time spend throwing money at Apple!!
For anyone else who has a similar problem to mine then follow JJEgans link above, download "CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5.zip" to your PC then follow these instructions
* Your phone should not be connected to your PC yet
* Start up Odin3 v1.85
* Click the PDA button, which is located under the Bootloader button
* This opens up a box, all you need to do is locate and select the "CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5.zip" file
* Turn your phone OFF
* Hold Vol Down + Home + Power, it will ask you to cancel or continue ... press the Vol Up button to continue
* This will put the phone in 'download mode' it should say downloading...
* Connect your phone to your PC
* Make sure the Repartition is NOT checked (by default it should not be anyway)
* Click START
This worked for me and meant that I now have CWM Manager v3.60 running without the warning "this version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-CWM .1.1 or newer. It appears that you are running a different recovery. Various features have been disabled."

5.5.4.8 Touch works ok, dunno about mounting external, though. The none-touch that comes with CF-CWM works ok.
One question : Why you terribly require to mount the SD card from Clockworkmode??? since you have other options to tranfer your files to SD card.
I dont think you can mount even on the Cainfire's CWM, since SGS3 is not supporting to mount SD cards as mass storrage even booted condition.
Thanks SwiftSmoke, Kryten2k35 & ZACQ8 for the help!! much appreciated!!!
I have gotten myself terribly confused with all this although the 'mist' is now starting to lift a wee bit now
I have the premium version of the following CF apps - Rom Manager (CW Manager v3.60); Mobile Odin Pro v3.0; Triangle Away v1.70 and ROM Manager Premium v5.5.58 (CWM 6.0.1.0)
I have 'rooted' my mobile and successfully run 'Triangle Away'.
All my problems began when I tried to change my mobile from 'stock' ROM to a Cyanogen ROM (I downloaded a stable v9 Cyanogen ROM and placed it onto the root of my external SD card. All my problems then began when I rebooted CWM v3.60 into Clockwork Recovery mode to find out that it would not recognise my SD card).
I have now successfully applied CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5.zip.
Question: what is the simplist way to flash to Cyanogen from here? Can I download a ROM and simply use Mobile Odin from now on?
Thanks again for your patience .. I joined XDA way back in 2006 so im disappointed my skills are not up to much at the moment (like many many others I got seduced by the Big Apple!!)
Bob
dont use ROM Manager anymore with this CWM (CF)
use Vol-up+Home+power to enter CWM
you should be able to see now external SD, choose your CM9 zip file from
'install zip from SD card' / 'choose zip from SD card' then, you will find the zip,
if not your SD card is not supported, reeboot and place the zip on the internel SD card through MTP
then select the zip from "choose zip from internel SD card"
dont forget to do the other steps (wiping cache. dalvik etc.. as per the ROM thread instruction)
Thanks ZACQ8 - that is exactly the advice I need
I'll post back later as to how I get on so that anybody else with my problem can follow this through.
Bob
All sorted!
I have now got my mobile running CM9.0 RC2
What I didn't realise was that you can access both your internal and external SD card via the Kies app (it works on both OS X and Windows PC when connected by USB cable).
During the reboot my mobile automatically detected that I am on a UK/O2 sim (I wasnt too sure if it would and was initially put off changing the stock ROM thinking it would cause problems - it didnt and hasnt!!)
Thanks to all who helped!!

Any idea why that is? I'd like to use my sdcard the same way as any htc did, using TotalCommander and seeing it as an external drive. I had all sorts of backup and sync-scripts working with my htc, now they are all useless, because of this stupid restriction.
I guess I'll wait for someone to crack through this silly wall created by Samsung.
And I see some have already done the first part (external sdcard as USB drive) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009
I have same problem with Sandisk 64GB, I have installed Recovery from HERE, still not working, I did not try format SD through recovery yet, maybe problem is Recovery does not support ExtFat system which is on 64gb, but 32GB sd card work fine with out any extra manipulations, it has Fat32 on it.

Lots of technical reasons. With a running phone you can use the APK 'Easy UMS' to mount the sdcard as mass-storage anyway.
You _should_ be able to run the commands manually through adb in CWM.

I also have same problem/error with my Sandisk 64GB. Running latest version CWM 6.0.2.3 on rooted Stock ROM T-mobile GS3.
I would really like to save/backup/restore my nandroids from the ext_sdcard since they are over 2GB....on a 16GB internal space is more than I have to spare. Can anyone confirm a fix or workaround for this? Thanks in advance.
**UPDATE**
So it appears the problem is ExtFat is the problem...is there a way to format a 64GB card with FAT32? from what I have read on other threads using windows or the phone itself will use the EXTFat format.

I tried the Fat32 format and I was able to format the SanDisk Mini SD 64gb to Fat33; however, CWM still won't recognize the ext SD. Were you successful in any way? I May just downgrade from 6.0.2.3 to the 5's as mentioned in another thread, but I have to refind it. I'll update once I confirm that the ext SD will in fact in CWM.

I had the same problem on my Note II N7105 with ClockworkMod 6.0.3.2 and a 64GB SanDisk.
I backed up my SD card, then used this tool to format it to FAT32 on my Win7 Laptop: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/ind...at32format.htm
After that I copied everything back. Works perfectly now. Thanks Rafi_ for pointing me in the right direction.
I've got SanDisk Ultra 64GB microSDXC formatted FAT32 with 32K cluster size and CWM 6.0.3.2 can't mount it. Installed PhilZ Touch 5, which is also based on CWM 6.0.3.2 and same issue.
Also can't read the contents in SlimBean or LiquidSmooth. It works fine in FoxHound, OmegaROM and Sotmax. My 8GB microSD works fine everywhere.
Any ideas why I'm not having the luck with this 64GB card with FAT32 format and 32K cluster size?

Stuck on the Samsung text!

Hi SGP users!
Last night, I installed the Jellybean CM10 ROM (the Nightly one). I also installed the GApps that came with the post. So I booted to Recovery Mode, I tried installing the ROM (Install zip from sd card>Install zip from internal sd card>downloads>the jb rom), but it says "INSTALLATION ABORTED". I repeated to install but to no avail. I rebooted the system to research on this, and the user said that you have to format system and try again. I booted to Recovery Mode again, formatted the system (it says system formatted or something like that), and installed the ROM for the nth time. It still says INSTALLATION ABORTED. Now, I tried installing the GApps zip file, and it worked (I installed the zip file because I want to know if all the files on the internal sd card are broken). So I tried installing the ROM again. Aborted. I rebooted the system, and now it's stuck with the white Samsung text! I don't know why, so I just drained the battery with the Samsung text still ongoing.
Today, I'm pretty sure the battery is drained (there's no text anymore), so I tried charging it. Nada, it's stuck with the loading logo on the battery image.
I think my device is bricked, I don't know. I researched it and all I found was the BootLoop. Is that the error on my SGP? I want to know if my device is bricked, and what caused this. Help?
Its not a brick..reboot to recovery (home + volume up + power ) and install some ics rom for player ..boot to that rom and then go again to recovery and install jb rom. That is offcourse if you have 5.0

Thanks, and one more question: Is it okay if I download the ROM zip from my computer and just transfer it to my player with Download Mode? Because I can't open my player, just to Download and Recovery mode.

transfer the zip files to your SD card; use those files to flash. Also, now, can you get into recovery/download mode? Like after having removed the player from the USB?
just curious- did you originally download the ROM/app package to your device (ie /mnt/sdcard/????) and flash, or did you place the files in the SD card (ie /mnt/sdcard/external_sd [or something like that]) before flashing?
===
Edit: Ok, so literacy kicked in and I carefully read your OP. My guess, and I could be wrong, though I doubt it, is that the installation aborted because you flashed the packages from your internal SD and NOT your external SD (ie the actual SD card). Since the ROM rearranges directory tree (or whatever), it would stand to reason that the installation aborted during the installation process since it could no longer locate the zip. Ie it is no longer /mnt/sdcard/downloads (or wherever), but rather /storage/sdcard0/downloads. I'm guessing that CWM bypasses this and accesses your SD card directly, rendering installation from your actual SD card immune to these effects.
So, try again (assuming your device can still go into CWM recovery) and flash the packages in the proscribed order, but this time, from the ACTUAL SD card, and NOT internal. I "upgraded" directly from a GB rom, having flashed the zip files from the external SD card, and suffered no problems, so I know it isn't necessary to go through ICS. Good luck!
This is a helpful one! I'm sorry, but one last question, (I'm a newbie sorry!) how do you move the zip files to the external SD Card? And if I do that, and it flashed successfully, do I have to start again if I remove my SD card? Really sorry for the questions, but I really want to know.
Thank you so much! Since my computer didn't recognize my SGP (suckish USB cable lol), I placed my external SD card on my cellphone and plugged the cellphone into the computer to download the zip files (I downloaded them directly to the card). Afterwards I placed my SD in my SGP and flashed--It's working, thank you!!!

All you need to do is use a file manager to move zip to sdcard1. Make sure you follow the steps in op of rom.

Thanks for the tip! I switched to JB ParanoidAndroid already because the Gapps on CM10 Nightly don't appear. Thank you anyway!
