DROID X2 on rooted gb text issues. recieve same texts twice or more!! - Motorola Droid X2

i get every text at least twice! any ideas on what is going on? on rooted gb from p3droid. anybody else experiencing problems? thanks

I've had similar problems with my X2 on Froyo but only when communicating with my friends on AT&T (they both had iPhones).

It's not unique to the rooted GB. It is a bug that, for whatever reason carried over from Froyo.

They said the bug was patched in gingerbread. Are you sure you're not taking about getting the same text in 2 different apps? Meaning in stock texting app and a 3rd party app. If so then you need to disable notification in the stock texting app.

I have not had 1 duplicated message since i went to GB (Now on rooted GB).. So check your settings, make sure you disabled the stock text app if your using an SMS program.

I noticed that when I downloaded ES Task Manager, I got tons of duplicate SMS. When I deleted it, no more duplicates. Not sure if that helps, but it works for me!

SMS App Suggestions

I used to use Handcent quite some time ago but found out that it was causing some problems with people receiving my messages and pictures. In addition, it started hanging and would generally slow down. Lastly I was told that it does not necessarily play nice with some other applications, namely LightFlow.
When I eventually put Eclipse on my DX2, I simply did not re-download Handcent and was just using the stock SMS until today, using CM7 and still, the stock SMS.
What does everyone else use, are there any decent alternatives to the stock SMS and if so, what makes it a better alternative?
All I've ever used is handcent, seems to be working nice for me, never used liteflow though.

I'm a huge fan of chompSMS. I've tried Handcent and GoSMS, but I always end up coming back to chomp. The only thing I wish they would add is the ability to multi-select message threads to delete, instead of having to do it one by one or deleting them all at once. I emailed them and suggested that and they responded that it was planned for an upcoming update, so maybe I'll get my wish.
I use GOsms. Works great for me.

I have used Metro Messaging Beta for a while. It was when I was going through my WP7 phase. lol. I actually liked it though. It didnt have any cool features (it was actually very limited) but with how simple it was, it was nice to use. I have recently just gone back to the stock sms app though. I also use SMS Popup so when I get a message, I dont even have to open the sms app.
I too, use GOsms. I like the customization and different themes it offers.
Just make sure to manually go into stock notifications and disable. Other wise you will get multi notifications at some point. It will ask you at setup to disable, but for some reason you will still have to manual disable through stock app.
You could always give it a go!

+ 1, exactly what I was going to say. Love the customization.

I like the customization of Handcent better, can change a lot of things for individual contacts in handcent.
I just delete the SMS/mms apk in every ROM and put handcent in system/app

So I guess it's +++++++1 for GO SMS. I use GO SMS on mine.
Ciao!
GoSMS here BUT the MMS sending on it is whack. I have it set up for 1.2 MB and preserve image resolution yet when I send a pic it'll degrade the picture image. This is for pics under 1.2MBs...
Any one use a different phone/call app besides the stock one?

GO SMS is what I use, I like how it pops up a window without you having to swipe notifications, and the overall customizability of it. As Elite49 said, you cant go over 1.2mb in size but it just let it shrink my photos to fit and it works just fine. Be sure to get all the plug in for it too, there are tons of themes and emotocons etc...

Does yours degrade the pics when their not over 1.2MB? I find it extremely annoying seeing a pic thats under that somehow look like crap when I go to send it.
Another vote for GO SMS here!

Google Voice Notifications on ICS Leak

I use Google Voice for free text messaging and I'm having a very annoying problem with it since I've updated to the ICS leak (6.14.75). I receive an alert when messages come through and the alert also pops up in the notification bar. However, it only stays for a few seconds. If I happen to catch a text message in my notification bar and then close that bar and immediately reopen it (without clearing the notification) it's immediately gone. I sometimes have 4 or 5 messages that all display as new in GV but don't stay (or ever appear) in the notification bar.
I've confirmed that all notifications are selected in the app and I don't have this issue with any other apps. I have the newest GV (4.0 compatible) installed and I have my VM integrated with my stock dialer but keep my texts set to "Via Google Voice App" as I don't have unlimited texting and messages often send from the wrong number if I set it to "Via the Messaging App".
I've sbf'ed back to GB and upgraded back to ICS to see if that fixed the issue and I can confirm it didn't. There has to be some setting somewhere that I'm overlooking. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Anyone on ICS NOT having this issue with GV? If so, which leak are you on?

I use ics first leak. I admit Google voice notification sucks. Sometimes it does not even notify me when I have a text message. I am dealing with it, with the hopes of the fix on upcoming updates.

Ok, so I'm not the only one. I didn't have the issue on my G'Nex so I'm led to believe that it's something in the leak (also on the first one). I'm interested to see if anyone on a newer leak is having our issue.

[Q] Can I disable screen on when I receive an sms?

I hate how my screen turns on when I receive an sms message. I only need the notification icon in the taskbar and the led blink and if I disable the notifications from the settings the screen does not open but I loose the other notifications as well. Any ways to fix this?

interested in that too
Don't know if it's possible with the stock app, however if you're willing to use a 3rd party app, Go SMS does have an option to keep the screen off and quite possibly other apps do too.

switch to HANDCENT SMS, it is the best sms app, i am using it for a year now. Go to setting and disable pop-up. Now when you receive a message, it will vibrate, led will blink, but screen will not turn on. You will ses the message in the notification bar.

That's what I'm using right now but I want to minimize the use of third party apps as much as possible . Plus with handcent sms when I send a picture or video it doesn't work. I have to use the regular messaging app in order for my mms to leave successfully .

Still no solution for this one. I don't want to use handcent or go sms for two reasons. First I like the simplicity if the stock samsung app and second I use the direct call feature that only works with stock app. There must be a way to hack the default messaging app to stock opening the screen when receiving a message.

BUMP. This feature is sooooo annoying!!!!
It irritates me also. I've used Handcent on every device in the past, but I don't want to for some reason on this one. I actually rather like the stock messaging app.
I suppose I'll go back to Handcent. The screen on is annoying, plus it creates a temporary wakelock that drains the battery even more.

Stock text messaging question.

Is it possible to hide the contents of a text message in the notification bar. In other words still notify me of the text, but not the actual text message? Yes i know 3 rd party sms apps can do this, but is it possible on the stock app?

Unfortunately not. There were not settings for this in either GB or ICS that I am aware of. Mildly frustrating not to have the option.Your only choice would be 3rd party messaging (which I personally hate ) or disabling notifications completely... Although, perhaps you could look for an alternative SMS notification app? I'm fairly certain you could find a good one. Although, that isn't stock either, but certainly better than a new texting app.

GO SMS has the feature, but that app is now just plainly sucks. Too many advertisement, too many updates and no good free themes
My stock app only shows the notification after the txt comes in, yes it scrolls thru the msg as it arrives, but if the phone is off i can't see anything. Stock .215 XT912

Is there any reason why you dont want to use a 3rd party app? I use handcent and personally have no use for the stock messaging app. of course its a matter of personal opinion. I like the fact with handcent I can get the message to pop up and I can reply without having to unlock the screen. also I can disable notifications. :good:

Mms?

So I used TB to freeze my stock messaging app. I use go sms pro and it was annoying having to get double notified ever time I got a text. Yes I did disable the notifications in the stock app but I still would get them sometimes for some reason... Any way with the stock app frozen I could not get any Mms. No pictures or video.. Nothing. I could send and receive texts just fine though. I now have my stock app unfrozen and everything is working fine... Any idea why our phones have to have the stock app working to get Mms?

Not sure on your question there, but I also never use the stock messaging app, I've always used Handcent instead. I am able to successfully disable sound and vibration notifications in my stock messaging app, and just use Handcent though. I've done this on all 3 of my Evo LTEs that I've had, have 2 currently. Not sure why you aren't able to, but it's not an issue with the Evo, must be something wrong with yours if you're not able to

Odd... Maybe it's my rom? It can't be the phone it has to be software related?

3rd party apps retrieve the sms from the stock messaging app. And htx sense is a whole mother level of weird. On aosp you could swap messaging apps of other roms for the device. Not sense though.
