[Q] UPDATE???? - HTC EVO 3D

I read that the ATRIX receive 2.3.4 OTA update, when do you think the 3D will see it?

From HTC? Who knows. But now that we have root, we will probably be seeing some 2.3.5 coming up in the near future (AOSP of course). Also, 2.3.4 isn't reallyl any different from 2.3.3, other than the Google Video chat, which can already be used on our phones now anyways. Don't let 2.3.4 get you too excited.

Lol yea I won't, just can't wait to see what's to come now that we have full root.

Now that I have root, I don't care about any updates.
We will have rom's to take care of that.

I just picked up my phone and had a Application update for HTC Watch, Lockscreen, and widgets. Anyone see this update?

From what I remember reading... as far as Google is concerned, development on 2.x has stopped. Whether or not 3.x is still being developed I don't remember reading about, but I know they are working on 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which is a collaboration of everything in 3.x and 2.x, and designed to work on both smartphones and tablets, so that they can get away from having different versions for different types of devices. This is said to be available in Q4 of 2011.
Now to keep developing 3.x when they are already planning on releasing 4.0 so soon, would seem pretty foolish at this point, but stranger things have happened.
Now, this also does not mean that HTC won't release 2.3.4 on their devices... this could still happen... but my guess is that they will simply wait until 4.0 hits and develop their interface and software for that environment, rather than waste the time developing applications and testing for the end of life 2.x environment.

Yea, I hope we just get bumped right to ICS, instead of any pointless GB updates. I only said 2.3.5 because when I was in the Evo4G section the other day, I noticed that the current GB Beta from Deck is android 2.3.5 (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078558). I figured that when we get some CM AOSP on this thing that the nightlies will be based on 2.3.5. I haven't even looked to see what was included in the 2.3.5 update. It's probably a subtle change from 2.3.4, since it's only one point. I'm just so happy that we have s-off and will be seeing all this stuff soon.

I just saw this update myself, Not sure what it entails, nor would I take it right now if my phone wasn't about to be replaced in a couple days, because it's possible they have found the exploit used and are patching it up with an update like this... unlikely, but possible.

I get it every morning (every 24 Hrs) I haven't downloaded it yet. I don't plan to.

Keep in mind that with HTC's update to 2.3.4 you will also lose the ability to sync Facebook's contact info.... Don't be too hasty to rush out of a good thing and into something that is a big disappointment. That was a huge let down when I got my nexus s 4G. Had to root to get back into a version that supports the sync. But its my honest opinion.

I actually got that update yesterday, and accepted it by mistake. I had just flashed a rom, and had done a full wipe. When I was setting everything up, the update popped up. I pulled down the notification bar, and had a bunch of other stuff in the notifications. I somehow tapped it, and once it started I was unable to stop it. It did nothing but update the apps that it said it would. I had a missing phone icon on my lockscreen after flashing the rom. After taking that update by mistake, and rebooting, the phone icon was back. It did no harm to my root or bootloader. Over 3G, it only took about 30 seconds to download and install the update (so obviously it was nothing of considerable size), and it showed each individual app it downloaded and installed, similar to how the market will update apps when you allow it to.
Not saying to take it, nor am I saying to ever take an OTA, because you NEVER know what HTC has slipped in....but I am saying that I did take the update and no harm was done. I think it was one of the OTA updates from before that I never accepted. I think the factory reset prompted it.

The most basic rule of thumb when it comes to rooting your device is NEVER take an OTA ever ! Like mentioned before HTC might have found the exploit and are attempting to patch the hole up . Im no idiot and Im quite sure someone from HTC has already downloaded Revolutionary and are currently disecting it to find out what it does to root the device . Any upcoming updates will more than likely be caught and rooted by a dev then posted for the general rooting community . Patience is a virtue that sometimes pays off big time in the end .

I took that update, I buy if you use crossfire don't do it. It update like Apps so it doesn't use the recovery, but you have to restart your phone and when it comes back its distorted like heck.

This sounds like the update they made on launch day to fix the problems with the missing phone icon on the lockscreen and watch was working for everyone at the time either.

2. if rumors are true the official update for 2.1 is going to be released today but i'm not holding my breath. i'm running the latest 2.1 ROM that was released on here like 2 weeks ago and i love it i do but i'm just tired of the bugs and such and i know an official release will fix most of the issues. is it possible to update my phone manually when it comes out on the verizon or HTC or will there be another way.
thanks for all the help

updating manually is an option, but if you just wait until someone ports the "official OTA" over to a new rom, you won't have to lose root. As far as motoblur goes, I'm sure its possible, but the demand for such a port isn't very high, so I doubt anyone is even looking into it.
ps. I had to LOL a little and the words "latest 2.1 rom" and "2 weeks ago" in the same sentence. Most of the big boys have updated their roms 2 or three times in the last week alone! LOL
lol yeah. anywho how do i go about manually updating it? just get it off htc or wait to get the update message?
This is not development related.

Rumor has it we will get the gingerbread update in Q3. Bad things will happen if you flash the DX gingerbread update.
a 2.3 update would be beneficial to both verizon and moto... with other droids getting the update recently/soon it would make sense to expect it at least within the next couple months. the best news is that they already have motoblur working on 2.3, so this should make the update alot easier for the DX2... we sit and wait, as always.
It's rather asinine that the DROID X2 this late in the game did not include Android 2.3.3/4 any high-end(ish) phone that comes out this late with 2.2 is just stupid, Thunderbolt, Charge etc. etc. These carriers are always B*t*hing about there networks and data but they just gotta push all that data to thousands of the said updates to the phones. makes no sense.
The X2 does not have GB because GB is having problems on the dual-core Tegra 2 chipset. I talked with a rep this evening that was pretty knowledgable on the situation and she stated that we most likely won't be seeing GB on the X2 in the foreseeable future, a few months at the least.

I am also very curious about this. I've been harassing P3Droid on Twitter. Since he has inside sources at Moto (or so I've heard) someone should ask him what he thinks...
TBH plans to develop for this as soon as they get their hands on one...
I just wish this phone were more stable to start with. Swapping between wifi and 3G is a lag fest, pulling the phone from either the car dock or multimedia dock is a crap shoot. Often times it'll get confused and just give a blank screen when swapping between apps, and it'll require a reboot before the whole thing runs smoothly again.
I'm hoping a clean GB install will fix these problems because I really want to keep the device.

GB OTA update

So I've been hearing alot about GB being transmitted OTA for us to update lately. I've been holding off flashing a ROM, waiting to see how this OTA looks. But I'm impatient, what can I say! I've read all over that they are staggering the OTA updates and I have yet to see mine yet. So I decided to call HTC and ask them about it. They said no worries when it comes out it will just pop up for an update one day.. so the next day I call the HTC tech support and ask them when my device is scheduled to receive the update.. the HTC tech tells me she's not heard anything about a GB update coming OTA to all the Thunderbolts and acts like a dumb blond wondering what I'm talking about. I got frustrated and hung up on her. Does anyone know how they are staggering it or how you can tell when your update will pop up? I'm getting impatient and I want to flash to like BAMF or Bamf remix and load netflix etc.. but if the OTA GB updated is gonna pop up in like an hour or something I'd rather wait and see how that looks.
Since I got my phone I have yet to see it update anything and I've had it for about a month now. I'm rooted and everything else is stock, When I check status in software update the only thing with anything listed there is the Source : Verizon Wireless,.. all the other fields are blank. Every single time I try to do "Check New" for software update I get nothing happening or a failure of some sort. Sometihng about it being unavailable..
I'm just wondering if a GB update really is coming and how soon and if my phone is up to date at all. Liek i said it's stock rooted and I'm really tempted to use Rom Manager Premium and switch to BAMF... Thanks for any help anyone can offer!
GB is so far away bud. The ota update that's coming is the MR2 froyo. Just like the leak we got

what makes u think gingerbread will pop up in an hour? first thing i did when i got the phone was get rid of sense. cant stand it.
I really dont see what all the hub bub is about OTA's. By the time they are pushed to the phones, we generally have months of notice here via the forums. And besides which, what they push is out dated by the time they push them out. We do currently have GB builds available in the ROM section and they are great. If you want GB flash one of those. If you must wait for the OTA, then be prepared to wait for a while. Even if HTC came out tomorrow and said "Oh HAi Guyz, we has GB for all your phones and it is ready" then guess what.....VZW has to approve that build before it does anything...and as we all know...VZW takes forever to do so.
I am waiting for a relatively stable CyanogenMod 7 build that includes the permission override feature. Yes, I know you can do that with any rooted rom with permissions denied but the CM7 one is supposed to work better (for example, when you deny an app network access it does not cause a security exception but is told that there is no network available).

You will know when an OTA GB update is coming on these threads long before it shows up on your phone...Imo the GB ROMs based on the leak are buggy, although I do flash them every time there's an update. However, the Froyo based ROMs are awesome and run extremely well. I flash different ROMs regularly, but always go back to Bamf Remix because it is...well, bad ass. You need to get off stock now if you want your phone to live up to it's potential. Even if it's just for better battery life...I get DOUBLE the life using Bamf 1.7, no joke, 20>24 hrs on a charge using my phone all day with 4G.

any idea about the ICS rom ETA for Razr GSM version?
I thought I read on the Andoid forums that the ICs for GSM devices was avaiable now.
Leaked screenshots (not ROM) also reported here:

This was good news to read this morning. The screenshots look a lot like a completed build, which means we'll hopefully be getting ICS soon. The only problem I have with the current version of Blur is the uninstallable bloatware, but at least apps can be hidden. I bought a RAZR because I absolutely love Motorola's hardware. As soon as we can get ICS my phone will have the best software too.
how did you guys put up with motorola locked bootloader policy BS? i know many samsung users will be angry if samsung start doing that, but i don't think samsung will do that anytime soon. maybe in 2-3 years they will lock their bootloader, who knows.
I do not mind the bootloader for now, since I bought the phone knowing it is locked. If I buy a Samsung I know it's unlocked and if they lock it, it is a violation of there own policy and therefore gives me a reason to complain.
If it is Motorola's decision to take down the lock of the bootloader allot of heavy-users and programmers will joy that decision, but if they don not, than it is just tough luck. (Nevermind the fact I like it unlocked also)
The Locked Bootloader is a pain... The trend is that everyone is doing away with the locked, Moto being the only company left that has one... The lock problem prevents us from changing the Kernal and thus limits the amount of things we can accomplish with a custom ROM, Which is why at this time there are only a number of ROMs available to use... most are just tweaks of the exisiting Moto Rom....
You can search this forum, there is alittle more info here, plus a petition drive to contact Moto and voice your complaints....

I would assume Q1(Jan-Mar) Q2(April-June) Q3(July-Sept) Q4(Oct-Dec). To bad it's still unknown for CDMA.
Is there any chance that we can get ICS for Razr earlier than Q2?
If Motorola start leaking ROMs as much as HTC and Samsung do then yes.. but highly unlikely.. However that being said, we already have a leaked test version but obviously not stable enough to be used as a daily. And also on top of that, there are a few devs working on versions of ICS built from source so although we might not get an official Moto build of it before it's released, we can probably still get a decent cooked version of it soon.
using ics for over a week
I was able to dl the 4.0.3 from the server when it first popped up, after it (the d/l) started i restarted my phone and then went to settings and it showed up there as a ota d/l. I've been using it for over a week now and I've had absolutley no trouble with it. I retained root using voodoo and it autmatically reinstalled all my apps on it's own, all my root tweaks work and it's much faster than the .181 build along with being more detailed in the settings. I've reasd horror stories about people bricking their phones but again it went as smooth as butter, It failed 4 times due to me having the beta swype on and not being able to get it off, but after rsd'ing back to stock and taking all the updates and not adding or changing any programs along the way it went on as it should again under my settings tab not the [email protected] route, not sure why this happened maybe after it's identified the phone it "accepted" it as a soak? phone, I dont know but it's as perfect as I would want, I've been playing with the rooting and roms since the og droid, droid x, droid x2 and the bionic which was buggier than my shed, I don't understand where everyone is having trouble installing it, I believe I'm still on the update path as when I check for an update it allows it to happen and I can connect all my accounts including Motocast which I've read the update killed for most people, a few tweaks under the ro.build reconnected my mobile data and when I check to see what *#*#4636*#* it shows my phone info for preferred network type as unknown (which i dont understand) and under motorola services "push connected" as true, which i believe lets me know that this was considered a legit ota update, now I've been rooting and flashing since the og but am far from being an expert in reading this and may be misinterpeting what I'm reading but so far so good and wouldn't go back to GB for anything, and wouldn't understand why anyone would, much faster, 4g stays connected all the time and the speeds are faster there also, has a different overall feel to the system that is more fluid and hasn't had one hiccup to date, a little long winded but I thought i would give my opinion on the build. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Here is the link to the global update: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/ Lucky for you, since you haven't unlocked you bootloader or done anything otherwise, you can flash this in your bootloader and get the update with no problem.
Two notes on flashing that...first it's unofficial, so flashing it might risk your ability to get OTA's in the future. Second, it will wipe your data, apps, and internal storage. However, with those two caveats, it will work just fine.
I appreciate the input guys. However, both of you state I need to "flash" to do this - which looks to me (as stated above) it's an unofficial method of getting this update. I'm curious, is there a way I can do this a legit way? How come my phone did not take the update, while others did? How can I force my phone to update? I'd like to keep my phone as stock as possible and not do any modding to it.
If I really have no other options, then I guess flashing is my best bet. And considering the last phone I had that I took any time to mod was the first-gen iPhone, I have no clue what any of this lingo means - but I guess that's what Google is for. However if any of you have a quick link in mind you could post that might help me or at least point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated. I looked at the link posted above to the actual ROM file and it has some simple install instructions, however I'm not sure if that's all I need to do considering I'm still fully stock. Thanks again guys for all your help.

Run the 4.03.605.2 RUU. Let it boot 1 time, then wipe and install shrike's CounterShrike CM9 ROM. It's seriously a great ROM and super smooth in comparison to stock. Basically, what this phone should have been from day 1.

A few people got 4.03.605.1 a week or two after the 3.14.605.12 OTA, but they never mass rolled it out. Yep, basically the only reason why the global update ever made it to light is because the manufacturers like HTC like to "splash test" on a few customers, let them report back bugs and what not, at this point if there aren't any bugs or the bugs that are present are workable, they will release the update in mass to the rest of the public.
Basically, a splash tester knew what they were doing, whipped together that nice little "flashable" ruu package and released it for the rest of us to hack up for our own uses. Usually, we look forward to these little splash test releases because they do contain newer bug fixes, but they also contain new kernels, libs and other useful things we need to continue making roms like aosp or sense 4 work better
I'd say if you want it, go ahead and flash it. Its just not official as they say because it did not arrive onto your phone via ota update directly from htc and verizon. Although it is an official build built by htc.
