[Q] Total Battery Life For You with GPS Active 100% of the Time??? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd like to know from the folks at XDA how much battery life (in hours) they get once they recharge the battery and turn on GPS (i.e. 100% active with a software--no screen off) until the phone shuts down from no energy.
I'd like to know what ROMS, kernels, etc you're using and how much battery life with 100% GPS with no down time.
For me, I'm getting about ~3 hours with TW 1.3.2 and Bali using Copilot GPS software. Screen at half bright. Battery is reconditioned.........Is this any good?.....

What's the date on your battery? The battery might just be towards the end of it's usable life. Call t-mobile to get a new one sent to you.

I've been having real bad battery problems. People claim 12-14 hours with heavy use and full charge. I get only about 8 hours with medium use ( few calls some texts and some web browsing and pandora) My battery's date is 08.02.2010 and its 1500 mAH . Would you recommend i get a new one and see if that works? I'm running cm7 latest nightly and glitch v11 since i thought glitch would help wit battery life but no dice. Even before i got any roms though my battery life was always about 8 hours with medium use. And thats with no gps no wifi or syncing. Thanks for ur help.

3 hours with GPS enabled constantly? And your screen on the entire time? Yes, that's very good.
I remember I used to have a Garmin that would last ~24minutes after I took it off of the charger.
Constant-running GPS is a massive battery drain. Having your screen running for 3 hours straight is an even bigger battery drain.
Get a car charger.

what worked really well for me is bali 1.1.1 here are my UV settings ive been running my phone all day at 6pm i had 50% and after a good amount of use i have 47% left im not overclocking at all
1000- -25
800- 50
400 -50
200 -50
100-75
when i try going around 100 and up it gets unstable so try these out and tweak em a bit im sure u will have better battery life

Do you use bali 1.1.1 with cm7 nightly too? just making sure it'll b compatible with my setup to . btw funny ur from newark. im from elizabeth =P

not just "enabled" and waiting in the background waiting.

How Good Is Battery Life On KA6?

If your going to answer me with "You retard its only been out a day" or something like that then dont answer cause i dont need your opinion -_-...
Now if u flashed KA6 and dont mind sharing your opinion with me about your battery life on it so far.... Plsz go aheas =D
Is it better then KA5? Lol
"You retard its only been out a day"
lol jk
no one can really give you an honest statement.
It's been out a day, and a rom/phone usually needs to take 24 hours, or more to settle in and start acting normal, then if you check it should be good...
but SO FAR, my battery life's the same as KA5, excellent.
but depends on what rom your using, with NERO, i had a bit lower battery than usual(probably just me) then with Axura, incredible life.

Any of jellette's latest roms have extraordinary battery life. I'm currently running M10 and after getting up at 430 this morning, now 715 pm, still at 51%.
Sent from my nuclear powered submarine.
It's the best i've seen so far, after about 24 hours of moderate use: wifi, about 30 minutes of calling, about 30 minutes navigation, few downloads and install, i even watched an episode of the daily show, the battery is still at 50%
I think it's the best i've seen so far, but then again, I was on JFD then JI6 up until a couple of weeks ago.

interesting...my battery life has essentially been halved coming from rooted, stock JI6 (minus most bloat). if i unplug this thing at 5:50 am and listen to music (with the screen off) for 45 minutes while working out, and syncing email once an hour, the battery is at 30% by 10:30am. before the update it'd be at 80% to 85%.
any suggestions? It's getting pretty unusable honestly, especially being the owner of a nexus s as well...
just wanted to post an update that i finally got up the nerve to install modified 3e recovery which in turn let me get (and keep) Clockwork mod recovery, where i flashed the new K1B modem and wiped the battery stats.
Im conditioning the battery by letting it drain down and will charge it to full again, but so far I'm happy to report that battery life is now excellent for a vibrant.
went through heavy use today of 3g, streaming, gps, and 2.5 hours in phone calls and im at 18 percent currently (been off the charger for 13+ hours).
Very acceptable for how i use my phone. before this change it was hemorraging power and needed to be recharged twice in the same day ( mid morning and again when i got home). I'm happy with my phone again!
P.S. KB1 modem is a beast, i hit 6.1mbs down, and gps accurate to 9 meters, and under power usuage cell standby only accounted for 4% of power where as it was 20ish% before. holy crap

You can go to menu button> settings>about phone> then status gives battery level and battery use give the % of power usage by task
You can get apps for this, don't really need them.
If you want to recondition the battery........ look in the sticky in General there is a how to there

Use anycut to make a shortcut of lbstestmode on your home screen then click "get position test". It will then display how many satellites there are in the sky and how many you've locked onto
Btw "locked on" means that your phone can see a satellite and it can see you basically. Your phone connects to many different satellites and the more it locks onto, the more accurate your location. Hope this helps

A day and a half as in 36 hours? Only 20%!? What is your usage pattern?
I have a friend with RLS5 in a Blade with 60h of battery life... with 23% left battery to use.
I think..LOL 1.4.2 and OpenOptimus are the most durable rom..(sorry for my english)
In this moment devoid.franco.
Or maybe anyone but CyanogenMod 7, that drain my batt 20% in the night
It doesn't really matter as long as you know how to configure it to save as much juice as it can. SetCPU profiles does the most for me. Running slightly modified stock.
i use CM7..for me this rom is good for the battery life..but for anyone is different..I spend about 2 days with one carge..so you can try and decide

That would depend on you ... But I cannot stress this enough ... before writing off a ROM, be sure your battery is calibrated ... that makes a big diff
I was using my own ROM and used to get about 35~40 hours ... 2g always enabled ... fb, twitter, corporate mail, gmail always sync ... chat a lot ... dont play too many games ...
Nw on CM7 by mik_os and get about 30 hours with similar use ... I stick to this as its gingerbread + CM settings ... plus pretty much bug free ... only drawback is divX doesn't work
Definitely not CM7. It's not terrible bad, but compared to the ROM I used before, Void, it was worst. I don't have a huge problem with battery life except for that one night I lost 20% over night standby. The one other ROM I tried was Void and I thought that ROM was overall very good combined with good battery life, but I switched to CM7 just because I liked gingerbread. Compared to other phones CM7 battery life is normal.

Yes it does. I use a stock 2.2.1 and it lasts about 48 hours before going below 25%.
I use it moderately. About 1 hour calling/day. 2-3 hours Wifi/day. Data always on 2G. 3G causes it to last about half the time. Games for about 1 hour/day.
devoid.franco consume 1% of the batt between 10pm and 7am (with all off, overclock 428-729 smartass).
CM7 consume 20% the same hours (all off, 245-600).
Im presently running on Stock rom with devoid.franco kernel v11..Getting great backup. 2 days with some calls, lots of sms, occasional browsing on edge and lots of music. Pretty happy with that.
Nessy is the one that i prefer does much better than the stock rom ever did. i can now use programs like pandora in the car and actually use the phone later

Trigger 3.3 beta

I just installed the new Rom TRIGGER 3.3-beta. This rom is very fast and the GPS is great. I also put on bali 1.8.4. But the battery drains fast. If you guys tried it out, and found a way to save battery can you please let tell us what you did to control it. I know its in beta version and is being tweaked on.
Thank you
Yea Im using the same Rom. Hate to break it to you but the battery life on most all android devices sucks. I have had 5 different android devices and the battery sucked on all of them. didn't matter if it was stock or custom Rom. ether way these devices just have ****ty battery life. You can make it a little better by turning down brightness and messing with other settings but when it comes down to it. it still sucks! Just my 2 cents!

Did you recondition your battery after flashing? I've had pretty good battery performance with the Bali kernels. I also tend to use the KB1 modem. It seems to give me the best battery. But each phone is a bit individualistic, and what works well for someone may not work as well for next person.

This is untrue as I have owned an android device since the G1. The battery did suck on the G1, but by no means does the battery suck on every android device. My guess is you probably never calibrated your battery or you just used it very heavily. There's also the possibility that every rom you tried sucked on those devices. I have consistently gotten a full day or more with Bionix NextGen V2 with the Bali kernel with moderate to heavy usage. It is true if you lower the brightness, turn off wifi, bluetooth and gps when you aren't using it that it will increase your battery life though.
I have reconfigured the battery and have the brightness turned all the way down. Dont use WiFi but battery still sucks compared to other smart phones.

can any of you post a screenie of this rom pls
Battery usage is hard to compare since there are so many variables. In my experience I generally have better battery life when visiting my parents. The area I live in is somewhat of a black hole for signal and I notice more battery drain here with the same rom/kernal setup and similar usage pattern. I believe the weak signal here causes a higher battery drain over all.
Of course this might not apply to your situation but it could be worth considering.

I'm not going to argue with you, I'm just going to state what the facts are.
THE BATTERY DOES NOT SUCK, MOST LIKELY IS USER ERROR
Lol. It isn't user error. I think you might just use your phone more heavily than others. One thing you have to realize when comparing the battery life of the phones are a) battery size, b) screen size, c) smartphone or stone age phone, d)**** you've done to the phone including ROM's/Kernals/Apps/Sync.
Personally, on days that I am working, I get about 8-10 hours out of my battery before it dies. When I am not at work I get about 23 hours out of my battery.
what is the major difference between trigger 3.2 and trigger 3.3?
Try using overstock instead, I've had pretty good battery life with it.
Im running trigger3.3 beta with overstock and the battery is great.

bahaha you must be kidding. like someone else said, it depends on soooo many variables and phones. I was running trigger rom and overstock kernel and was going down about 1-2% battery every hour while screen was off. I listen to pandora every morning for an hour to hour and half and would go down 5%. I've sat on the web watching tv on TV shows stream app for about 1-2 hours and went down like 15-20% when brightness is lowered.
It's all about the brightness, killing apps that enjoy sucking battery life and enjoy run constantly, and running an OC/UV kernel. You can also change it from the usual 3g/H connection down to E (edge) which uses alot less power also. Turn off or turn down auto sync on certain apps like facebook from every 10 minutes down to every few hours.
The screen is the biggest power consumer, so lower that, set it to automatic or all the way down to lowest brightness to save quite a bit of battery when using the phone.
Usually the second largest power consumer (if ur not a huge user of just one certain app) is when the screen is off and the phone is syncing and just running android. the solution is If you can find a decent UV kernel (overstock for android 2.2 was what I was using when on 2.2), you can slow your CPU down. Like on my vibrant I made a profile (on the SetCPU app) to undervolt it from 1,000mhz down to a conservative 400mhz max and 100mhz minimum when screen is off. This is very easy to do. sometimes I'd watch shows on that. I usually left it at a conservative setting and 800mhz and 100mhz min all day long when screen was on, sometimes at 400mhz if i wasnt doing much. It worked wonderfully for me.
Moral of the story, there are plenty of things to make your phones battery last longer than it normally would. The big one probably to get a well known kernel that can UV, then get SetCPU and make a few profiles to make your phone use less power.
BOOM!

[Q] Battery Improvements on 2.3.4 ???

I am still on 2.2 froyo and waiting for the official gingerbread update. I remember reading that 2.3.4 ginger bread was supposed to improve battery life.
For the people who already jumped ship and upgraded to 2.3.4, do you guys see any significant battery changes? Good or Bad?
Ever since 2.3.4 my battery sucks a lot!
my battery's about the same, but the new battery info screen is pretty awesome
I've not noticed a difference
Sent via the power of a unicorn's horn.
My battery lasts only 8 hours with 2.3.4 and when I was using 4.1.8.3 with gingerblur 4.5 it lasted almost 12 hours. Not to happy right now
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
My battery has been pretty miserable after switching to 2.3.4. I'm a pretty heavy user, but before the switch, it usually lasted a whole day. Now, I'd be happy to get 10 hours. It's not so much of a problem for me, because I can usually get to an outlet to give it a bump charge during the day. I would definitely switch back to a 2.2 build if it wasn't for the CRT animation. That's probably my favorite addition to Android 2.3.
This has been discussed before and some people found that battery life is improved by freezing some social apps.
The battery on my Atrix lasts about sixteen hours.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
My battery lats very long. I can go on an all day cycling trip, where I'm being gps tracked the whole time with a cycling app, location updated to the cloud on google latitude, checking in at new places I visit on foursquare and google+, taking and uploading photos along the way, some SMS, some email, etc, and I get home and the battery is at 60%.
On work days, it's off the charger at 7am, and when I go to bed around midnight it's still over 50%. WiFi on, Bluetooth on (and paired to a stereo headset to listen to music for a couple hours each day on the bus to Redmond), doing nothing at all to conserve battery.
I bought a spare battery because I just got the phone when the HKTW build leaked, and everyone was saying the battery life was atrocious. I take it with me when I'm going to be away from electricity all day, but have yet to even come close to needing it.
Mine sucked bigtime whatever i tried, so i'm back to froyo

One time I did see horrendous battery life, and it was just after I installed Google+ and enabled the auto upload feature. Unbeknownst to me, it scanned my SD card and was uploading everything, not just new images. Hours of the phone being warm in my pocket should have indicated something was up.
When I checked, it was "phone idle" taking up all the battery. Those seeing phone idle high up on the list, are you on baseband 01.97.00R? I know I wasn't initially, but then flashed it wondering about 4G speeds and such. Didn't improve my speeds, but I don't see phone idle up high on my list.

I configured my Google+ instant upload feature only to start uploading when I plug the charger in and when I'm using wifi (when I get home). Currently using baseband 01.77.15P don't know what else could it be. I think its because the hktw is only a beta release

definitely very beta. The key thing to take away from all the bugs people have discovered is that it is very inconsistent. Seems like no two people experience the same set of issues.
To the OP: give it a try on a day you'll be near power, and if the battery life is poor for you after doing tweaks (like Navalynt's mod which packages up a lot of the fixes people have made), go back to 2.2. Simple enough.
I have been running it as my main build and it works fine here for battery. Been flying around and this thing has been working great. Average of about 13 hours on some good usage (watching 1 hour video podcast and a lot of audio podcasts) wifi and gps on , streamed espn for an hour and a bunch more and still working great.
THe battery has been conditioned here and there and working good but I will always check the usage and see whats eating it and freeze those that I dont need. That always helps everyone.

I am still on 2.2 froyo and waiting for the official gingerbread update. I remember reading that 2.3.4 ginger bread was supposed to improve battery life.
For the people who already jumped ship and upgraded to 2.3.4, do you guys see any significant battery changes? Good or Bad?

It's definitely worse.

Better battery life?

i remembered there was a flashable zip to make the battery life better, but I can't seem to find it.
anyways what i've done so far is put the brightness to low, turn off gps , put the animations to .5 , sync emails every 2 hours , only have one widget running , installed the latest faux kernel .
It helped a bit , but nothing too noticeable. Any more things i can do to make it better? any tweaks or anything?
which rom are you usingg?? turn off auto sync, disable check for update.. also your battery can wear out over time, can purchase new battery... most people recommend anker battery,

I'm using juice defender with good success. NRG ROM has pretty good battery life anyway (compared to stock).

i always felt like JuiceDefender killed the battery more than conserving it. Along with everything else thats been stated, I usually use System Tuner to lower the clock speed when the screen is off, helps save battery when idle.

It did not seem to work with my HD2, and I did not use it originally with my Ruby. But now it seems to work fine. I mostly use it to turn off the mobile modem (seems to be my biggest battery drain) except when the screen is off and once per hour to sync my various programs. Using this configuration I can last all day, even with my cheaper replacement batteries.
But nothing is going to make the device go if one is keeping the screen on (like gaming). 3-4 hours max in that setting, and I still carry two spare batteries for those times my son gets his hands on the device.

I don't know what you are talking about but I get crazy good battery life... Here are my stats from 2 days ago I took a screen shot of... And I don't use juice defender and I am using teamvipers sense 4.1 rom and i have around 180 user apps installed on my phone. I just don't use data but my wifi is on all the time (don't have a data plan) and I play temple run and empire defense a lot hence high screen on time. Major thing about the rom I'm using is that it's very efficient when idle. I also keep my capacitative button lights off permanently as I think that also helps my battery life. Only downside is that I don't have working bluetooth in this rom

Well, yours is unique. Most people have pretty poor battery life. I've had 3 Amazes and all of them really drained the battery when the screen was on. However, as I said, my GSM modem is what really drains the device as well. If you live near a cell tower or in a downtown area with good T-Mobile, the modem won't "hunt" and will deliver better life.
Also, the stock battery is the best, in my experience.

I am actually on vacation and using aunt's sim who lives in new York and i live in Wisconsin (Marshfield) and t mobile doesn't exist here literally I am always using at&t signal and I have relatively spotty signals but yes I am not using data as my aunt doesn't have data plan so that also contributes to better battery and I live in a very rural area (there are more cows out here than humans...)

2g doesn't really drain too much battery, but it's still always a good idea to turn data off when you don't need it. The rest depends on the rom you are using but again there is no set number... From what I have read I am an odd ball with the battery life (and am not complaining). I assume you live in karachi? It's not even worth it to pay for 2g...I read somewhere that 3g will finally be rolling out to mobile networks in Pakistan in 2013...but we'll see...

1. Turn down screen brightness, screen kills the battery on the amaze more than anything else
2. Turn off automatic sync, this is very helpful
3. If you're on a JB ROM then turn off google now, this will stretch your battery life significantly.
