Add to Blacklist - Does not Work ? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I needed to stop a contact calling me so I added them to the blacklist, to check I tried blacklisting my personal mobile calling the Samsung Galaxy S2, so I can see when I view the contact details the no entry symbol on the number ( Why does it not show on the contact list?, surely it would make more sense to also show on here so you can see which contacts you have blacklisted rather than have to edit or view details for each one to find?), however when I try to ring the Samsung it still rings and I can still hear ringing on my personal phone which is not what it says in the instructions ?
When I check the call log, the number is there with the no entry symbol also so it obviously knows its blacklisted, but its not stopping the call ?
Anybody else tried this?
PS: I am now using the Lightning ROM so maybe this could be aproblem with the rom so if somebody could check who is on stock rom that would be great.
Also, is the blacklist option limited to the number of entries?, is it also suppost to block sms ?

SMS can't be blocked. It depends on the network and will be sent through. You can alternatively put them under Spam/Blocked folder, that's all you can do.
About Blacklist of Contacts in GSII, yes it DOES work. I am using it from the first day. You just have to press and hold on a Contact or Call Log to add it/them to Blacklist. Yes, there is no sign whatsoever that you will see as blacklisted, but to confirm just go to, Settings-Call-Call rejection-Black list to see which number/s you have added under Blacklist. And I do believe that Blocking capability also depends on the Network, other party, whom you've blocked, will hear Ring for a second or less before hearing the Busy tone. I didn't like that, thus installed Root Call Blocker and I can say it works just the same as the in built call blocker of GSII. I am still searching for an app which could be able to do real block, i.e- Elimination of ring at the first second or two and hear Busy/Unavailable tone straightaway, but still I doubt it would work or not as it depends on the carrier you are on IMO. Still if anyone knows a good app please let us know.
Regards.

I think the way blacklist works changed after the last droid update.
go to settings -> call -> call rejection -> auto reject mode ( set to Only blacklist )

The GII Blacklist is limited to 100 entries

restricted calls... anyway to do this

First, WITHOUT USING ANY 3RD PARTY APPS
If someone calls from a blocked/restricted number, is there any function in the Titan that would allow me to set it to not ring (or to only vibrate, or have a special ringer for only restricted calls)? I tried making a contact called restricted, but that didnt work.
Second, if the above is not possible, what are some 3rd party apps that I might try? I never pick up blocked calls, and I dont even want to hear it ring.
It's not exactly a 3rd party application, more like a service; check out www.youmail.com . If somebody with a blocked number calls me, it says "the number you are calling does not take calss from unidentified callers, please hang up and reveal your number."

Ummm.... There has to be a million. Ok not that many but seriously There are even some that are developed on XDA! I could find that one though ;c(
Here is one that is pretty popular. Im sure others will chime in with there favorites too.
http://www.wm6software.net/communication/call_firewall.html
I could swear I had done this in the past.... But I cant figure it out now.
You can try Ringo... it might do the trick...
http://ringomo.com/windows.php
If you dont want to hear it ring... I recommend SPB Phone Suite...
It has a blacklist feature to ignore calls.. ignore and never ring.
Also it has a great today plugin for showing your vmail, unread messages.. etc (I recommend turning off the big buttons though.. the default look is ugly IMHO)
And my favorite feature, you can set the phone to vibrate, or silent for a period of time (5 mins, 15mins, 30 mins.. etc) This is a life saver since I often need to silence my phone for meetings, and then a few hours later I realize... I have 20 missed calls because I never set it back.
### Edit ###
I just set SPB Phone suite to blacklist "Private" calls.
I then blocked caller ID and called from my home phone... Nothing.. no ring, no flash, the phone ignored it.
It did ring on the callers end the normal number of rings before going to vmail... I.E. it didn't go right to vmail like when you hit ignore.
Superb. SPB Phone Suite does exactly what I want with regards to calls from blocked numbers.
Thanks!

This site is very slick. Thank you for sharing it.
To test ignoring calls I added my desk phone number to the block list. I called it up, my phone woke up, but never rang and didn't give a notice of a missed call. My desk phone was greeted with the message I left it on youmail.com which happened to be the default smart greeting. Very very cool to have this feature without installing a thing on my phone.

[Q] Area Codes in Caller IDs

I have searched for this and found the same question posted in a HD2 Android category, but there were no responses... so asking for myself in here.
I have all my phone numbers listed in my contacts with the preceeding area code, as I often travel outside of the local area and need those area codes included in my contacts numbers..... ie: all my phone numbers are 10 digits in length.
However, there doesn't seem to be a requirement for the area code to be sent, when a caller has Caller-ID enabled. In other words, I receive some calls from contacts in my phone, but if their phone doesn't include the area code in their Caller-ID, then my phone doesn't recognise or identify the number. Consequently, when hanging up from those calls, it constantly asks me if I want to save the number.
Note - it isn't a permanent thing. Many incoming calls DO identify correctly, as the area code has obviously been sent with C-ID.
Does anyone have a solution for this?
Obviously I COULD go thru every contact and manually add another non-area-coded phone number - perhaps under an obscure phonebook entry, like "pager"... but surely this is something that one would expect be handled automatically by the phone... not by duplicating entries as a work-around.
What would happen for business-people who travel internationally - most of their contacts would also include the "+61" (or whichever) country code also.....
Nobody ???
Bumping again ????
Anybody have any clues to this?
Did you try disabling the Area Code Prefix setting in Settings -> Call Settings ?

Thanx mate for your reply.
Sorry took so long.... my phone has been in for warranty repair (unrelated matter to this) for the last 7 weeks, so I haven't logged onto xda in that time !!!
No..... I haven't tried disabling the AC Prefix setting. I will have a look at that and see if it makes any difference.
One additional comment..... I am also having the REVERSE problem.... in that SOME people who ring me on their mobiles, the caller ID is also sending the +61 (Australia) country code in front of their mobile number too.... so again, my phone isn't recognising them as being the "same" number as what is stored in my phonebook ????
Will try the disable thing you mention and report if it works.
Sorry mate... cannot find the setting you mention.
Could you explain please exactly where it is ?

Or you could turn off having the phone ask to to add the number to your contacts.
On the US T-Mobile phone it is:
Activate phone screen
Menu
Options
Menu
Network Selection
Advanced tab
Turn off the feature to "Add new phone number to People at end of call"
I'm using the NRG ROM.
Thanks stevedebi.
Sorry - I mite not have been properly clear.
The issue isn't being asked to save a new number.
The issue is.... the phone does not recognise a number - mobile or landline - if there is an area-code or country-code prefixed to the number (or vice versa) with the entry in the phone book.
Eg: ALL my contacts saved in my phone have their mobile numbers WITHOUT the +61 country code.... and ALL landline numbers are saved WITH area-codes.
Now - depending on my contact's phone operators, they sometimes send with, or without, those prefixes in their caller ID's.
Consequently - on those occasions.... my phone does not recognise incoming calls or messages as having come from my contacts, due to the extra numbers at the beginning.
Surely this is a software issue from HTC? I mean, surely the software should be able to query an incoming called ID (either with or without prefixed-codes) with a saved number in the contacts/phonebook (with or without prefixed-codes)... ???
Bumping again ?
Sorry to be repetitive.... still looking for an answer to this ???
Check you registry setting for "HKCU\Control Panel\Phone\CalIidMatch" value=?!?
try to reduce the number for "Value" by 1 and try.
This is for the number of digits your phone will check when comparing incoming numbers with stored names.
Thanx Omar,
Will try that. Question though.... does it check the phone number (by number of digits) in reverse order? ie: setting a particular number will have no effect, if it checks in normal forward order, as it's PREFIXES that are making things wrong.... so the phone needs to ONLY check the LAST 10 digits.... not the first 10. This will eliminate the issue with any country-code added to the front of a number... but will not help with a local area code, as these are dependent on the callers' carrier, if they send the area code in the CID or not
From my experience with my HTC phones, it checks the last digits.
I have number saved with the +974 international code (for Qatar), & when local call come in, they only show the local format (without +974) & the caller ID still recognises the names. Our local numbers are 8 digits, so I have the registry value set at 7 or 8 & it works fine.

Atrix Call Reject option?

I'm coming from the Captivate, and the only option I'm really missing on the Atrix is the call reject feature. I want to be able to automatically reject calls from certain numbers and unknown numbers, can't find the option there anywhere.
I know I can use the 'silent rington' trick, but that's not idea and doesn't work with unknown numbers.
Any thoughts?
Are you asking to blacklist certain numbers, dismiss a call like with volume down, or have all calls for a period of time go straight to voicemail?
Blacklist numbers, I found an app for it though that I'm gonna try
Reject with Text
I was wondering something similar. With the Captivate and many other phones I had, there was an option to "Reject with Text." This was a nice feature I used every now and then. It seems that it is missing on the Atrix, does anyone know of an app or something that can do something similar?
I would suggest using Google Voice, which is free and open to anyone now.
You give out your GVoice number, and set GVoice to forward to your cell phone. No one ever needs to know your cell number direct, and if you change it..you just change the setting in GVoice.
GVoice allows you to actually block individual numbers--and generate specific responses to them! And you won't pay for the call, which would use cellular airtime if it was just your cell phone blocking it.
When editing a contact ---- under "Additional info" -> "Call handing" you can select "send strait to voicemail" .... however Mr. Number block is great for this by automatically blocking known spam by sending straight to voice mail or my favorite the "answer and hangup" tactic
The best solutions as stating before is Google voice as you can play a "this number is disconnected" or "the number you are calling does not accept unknown/blocked numbers" voice mail greeting.
Contacts > [Select a contact] > Additional Info > "Send straight to voicemail" [Check box]
I downloaded an app that works for me. The Contact thing is fine for numbers that you know, but not for unknown caller numbers.
I've tried Google Voice and wanted to like it, but its not my cup of tea.
It looks like the reject call feature and list is missing on this ROM, but not a big deal since there are apps to handle it.

The reject call feature works perfectly...the reason they don't allow you to just block all unknown calls is because almost nobody would actually need that. What if your mother ends up being rushed to the hospital because of an accident and the police try calling your phone (the number she gives)? Police officers usually leave messages but what if he doesn't want to so he tries calling a few times and thinks your phone is off because it always goes directly to voicemail?
It's not that hard to just hit "Reject" when you get a phone call from an unknown number...

The police would not be calling from an 'Unknown' number, if the police are calling me I'd see a number displayed on the caller ID.
I've NEVER received a call from a number tagged as unknown or blocked that wasn't a telemarketer call.
The 'reject call' feature, as I've seen it implemented on MANY other Android phones in the settings menu, is MISSING on this phone. Its not that it doesn't work, its that it is missing (AFAIK anyway)
I agree that it is missing, I miss it too. I used it all the time for a few numbers that kept calling me and asking for random names. Seriously though the same number would call and each time ask for a different name. All i ever had to do before was enable auto reject and click "add to reject" when that number, or set of numbers called. Now I will have to add it to contacts and then reject it. Not a big deal, and good to know that I have an option.
soo in the end whats the name of the free program that can reject automatically the unknown callers? i need that 2.(the SGS+ had that feature and it was awsome, i really need it)

Removing Private Numbers from i9100 black list?

Hey guys having an issue and wondering if you all can assist.
Some time ago I put "PRIVATE NUMBERS" into the stock black list that comes built in the i9100 now I need to remove it and im not getting an option to.
When I go to settings>call settings>call rejection> black list I do not have an option to remove PRIVATE NUMBERS and unknown is already unchecked.
When private numbers call me the phone promptly says hanging up and then the private number appears in the log with the blue crossed circle meaning it was rejected. Also as the call comes in an icon with a speaker and a slash across momentarily appears in the top task bar.
I need to now unblock private numbers can anyone assist.
Thanks in advance
long press delete or menu button delete does that not work?!
Hey kmaximax, thanks for replying but that doesnt work.
Long pressing delete in the black list is not an option because private numbers is not listed in the blacklist only unknown and that is already unchecked.
Long pressing delete in the call log which shows the blocked private calls doesnt work either it just deletes the entries from the log and not private numbers from being blocked.
Does anyone know the solution to this?
I blocked private numbers using the native blocker on the i9100 because of a lot of prank calls but now a good friend of mine has moved to another country and all the phone cards there that he buys there causes the numbers to come up as private. The phone is of course blocking them not to mention that a relative of mine has decided to block her number and all her calls get blocked as well because I cannot unblock private numbers.
HELP PLEASE ANYONE.
Private numbers are automatically blocked and I need to answer them.
One of my family members may be calling in case of an emergency and borrowed someone's phone to make the call and that person's phone may be private.
Is there no option to turn off the auto reject mode.I presume that disables blacklist......

Missed call notification bug on Dual SIM S9+

On my dual SIM s9+ I seem to be experiencing a weird bug with missed call notifications. Quite often no notification are shown for not answered calls. I only realize that there was a missed call when I open the phone app.
I was not able to identify any clear pattern that leads to a bug but close to 50% of missed calls on my device do not result in a notification in the status bar and the on the always on display.
Anyone experiencing the same bug? Is there any workaround?
Same here. Unbranded DualSim S9+, ATO

Yes. I have also been facing the same issue since I bought this phone. I can barely get missed call notification...
Okay – I switched the Caller ID and spam protection to ‘off’ after reading about this on another forum and all is goos now. Tested with it ‘off’ and badge and notification shows....toggled it to ‘on’ and tested and it shat itself....must be a bug

Thanks for the tip. I will test switching the caller id and spam protection off.
Same here. Someone did understand if it's a permanent bug or can be solved somehow
I had this exact problem, go into caller id and spam setting then select the 3 dots at the top and select stop using the service, it will then prompt you that it will delete all saved data select ok. Then switch it back on and it now works. So far this fix has worked all day. Let me know if this works for you and if it stops working ?
I tried all the remedy in this thread but still no luck, I got sake problem. No missed call notifications in my lock screen, or in small notifications bar at top after I unlocked phone.
same problem since the launch on March 9 .... scandalous and the last update of Friday does not solve the problem ...
No info? impossible to inform Samsung?
Thank you
I chat with super guys from Sammobile, he opened a poll and contact Samsung, vote on the site Sammobile history that Samsung sees that there are people who have this problem ...

Nico.
I had the same thing. Called Verizon and they talked me through it. The option is hidden so deep I don't know how anybody would find it. Go to settings, notifications, advanced, then menu button at top right to show system apps. Mine had 3 Phone options, select the second one and there's an option to turn on missed call notifications. Vzw had me change the importance to Urgent.
