Temporary solution for X10 2.3.3 Wi-Fi "limited connection" issue. - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL "FOUNDER" OF THIS METHOD AND ALL CREDITS GO TO THIS ENTIRE COMMUNITY FOR HELPING ME OUT!
Many people including myself has found their phones having issues with gaining full network access to whatever router they try to connect to after the latest 2.3.3 update. After some fierce searching on XDA Forums and Facebook I found a very noobish/easy yet helpful workaround. To be able to connect to your home router you will need to use the good old fashioned Static IP sollution.
For you who are new to this here are the following steps of the entire procedure:
STEP 1:
On your phone, go to the "Wi-Fi settings" section and choose advanced options which will allow you to check the "use static IP box"
STEP 2:
Under the checked box there are now several boxes available where we will put some numbers (boxes are: IP adress, Gateway, Subnet mask, DNS1 and DNS2)
To find this info you will need to open CMD on your PC (search CMD and it will pop up) and type in the following: ipconfig /all
STEP 3:
By now you will have a long list of different information, however there is a section named "Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection" under which all the information we actually need is located. To make matters easier I have included a partial screen shot pointing out the info needed:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Type the information you see into the appropriate sections in the phone except for the IP adress wich you will need to change the last digit of in order to prevent an IP conflict between the PC and the phone. (the last digit should not be used by any other device on the network so any unused number should work)
IMPORTANT
With static IP enabled you will only be able to connect to your home network and not to any network outside your home, but then again any connection is better than no connection at all. Just remember that this is a temporary solution until SE fixes the problem.

DNS1 and DNS2 are the same?

I tried this yesterday, yes phone will connect to wifi, but will not download anything. update now working Did like you said changed IP last number

Hey guys,
my wifi is giving me some trouble... i cant find my router with the phone. Already tried blade wifi fix and some other stuff but it just cant find it. Other devices can find it and connect without a problem.
The x10 just cant find it. Anyone encountered this problem and managed to find a work around?
I dont think the "static ip" will work in my case, cause i cant even find the router to connect to.
I'm on WB latest rom, with Speed&Fix005 installed.
Cheers

No, the DNS 1 and 2 are not the same. The last two digits are different if you look at the numbers according to the instructions

What do I do if I use 2 different wifi spots. One for home and one for work.
This will only make it work at home.
Cant believe that Sony Ericsson released a firmware where the wifi dont work
Any news about Sony want to fix the problem ?

If you want to use the phone in several Wi-Fi networks you will have to enter the information of that specific network just as the instructions shows. Sadly, for us suffering from this problem Sony Ericsson still havent responded to this issue that also exist in the ARC. It is also a fact that ARC users have been complaining for months without proper response.

Is there any other rom that fix the problem ?
I would like to use the original firmware. But if a custom firmware dont have the problem I would happily use that.

Another quick work round which maintains flexibility I find is to download and install an app called 'wifi static'.

This has been covered many times before , and with a search you might have found it but i will go over it again ....
This has been a known issue with Activesync for a long time, I say known but less common, it is more common with W7, but still there is no rhyme or reason as to what machines/phones it affects, (if someone knows please tell me), it has to do with the conversion module in activesync, but that is all I know about it ...
The Way around it is SIMPLE, connect your phone to the pc and "forget activesync exists", and when the little box on your phone pops up asking how to connect select disk drive ... Your phone will then show up as a removable drive and you can copy files fine ...
If you no longer get the popup box goto "Start Menu>Settings>Connections>USB to PC" , and check the little box that says "Ask me ......."
Thx. Yeah, maybe I could have used the search more precisely. And what you wrote lets me hesitate in Microsoft once more. But hey - ok, I can live with that. And using the card as drive is what I´ve been doing since and ever when this bug/error appears. Thx anyway.
(Was just thinking it had something to do with some app I installed or something, sorry for wasting your time btw)
try settings menu all settings connections usb to pc and UNtick "faster data transfer.

Yeah forgot that ...
I have been looking around at this, I think it actually may have to do with a codec issues, when you install 3rd party codecs it may screw up the built in conversion in activesync, even though the file does not really need to be converted, when activesync goes to check the file to see if it does need converted it bombs ....
Ok, thx you two.
I figured out now that it must have to do with this error report.
communication (0x80072745) error connecting Windows Mobile device
Source: RapiMgr
Event-ID: 8
I updated the driver for the mobile device via online update at the hardware manager snap-in and since then this sporadic appearing error did not occur again. Hope this was the solution.
I really hope so.

Bluetooth Woes

Anyone found a solution to the bluetooth failure following 2.1? Can send FROM laptop but phone wont send out.........
my problem is the other way round.. phone will send to laptop.. but laptop WON'T send to phone..!!
Weird or what. I've contacted SE who say they know of nothing wrong and suggest PC companion repair as the BT may be corrupted......................
At least it sends my phonebook to the handsfree.............
Time to repair, I think (again)
Strange I never had a problem with my bluetooth sending and receiving...!!
Anyways this thread might help you :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840575
Have you tried using astro bluetooth module?
Sent from my Xperia X10i (2.1 and rooted) using XDA app
Look up "bluetooth fix" in the market, I found 2 which seemed to help reset it but not sure which worked coz I stupidly activated both without fully testing between each one
So far none of these suggested solutions work for me. I'm unable to send from PC to phone. I get the "No services found" message. Win 7 32-bit. Used to work fine on 1.6.
no sevices here also. windows 7 64b, fine sending to the laptop but from the laptop is a no go.
i use bluetooth file transfer from the market which works fine but this should be working from stock.
yea.. but blue tooth fix is only for root user
I have discovered that if I send an image TO the phone from the lappy i can then send that image FROM the phone. Anything original from the phone says ' task cannot be undertaken.
ALSO
MW600 receives music and mutes it when calling or being called but the call is not transferred! WTF?
BUT
Handsfree speakerphone works.
Come on SE pull out the finger, it all worked properly under 1.6..........
Looks like its my dongle. Just tried with another laptop and all was fine............................... Bum.
I 've a problem with my car audio unit. They can't see each other :-(

My phone is rooted but Bluetooth Fix did nothing other than resetting all my bluetooth settings!
Result. All now fine. I replaced the bluetooth driver software on the computer, which must have upgraded stuff because all now works.
If you have a similar problem phone to laptop I suggest you replace the bluetooth stck on your lappy.
How did you remove the BT drivers? (stupid question?)..
You need to go to Control Panel - System and Security - Device Manager - Network and Adapters.
Problem is every time I try to update my bluetooth drivers it gets to "validate bluetooth device" and then it stalls there.

If the device is not 'one of theirs' Widcomm/Broadcom stack won't support it. My dongle was using the Microsoft drivers and would not work with the phone. I could send to but not receive UNLESS I sent something back I had previously sent if you see what I mean.
I have Win7 64bit with broadcom/widcomm BT and having No Services Found problem... I've managed to send files from PC to X10 by using Windows default Bluetooth File Transfer:
- on your PC go to C:\Windows\System32\
- find and select fsquirt.exe
- right click on it and click copy; paste it as a shortcut on your desktop
- now just drag the file you want to send to fsquirt - Shortcut and follow the instructions and it will send
hope it will also work for you
with 1.6 i was able to browse files on the sd card via windows explorer ("Browse files on your X10a" link in BT windows settings), then copy and paste files/photos to my desktop. It was very convenient and easy, like copy/paste from a flash card to hard drive, but via BT.
Now with 2.1 this option is gone (old BT drivers or the latest broadcomm ones - does not matter - it's no longer there). So how do I get it back? Any apps that have a similar functionality?

The following are some potential issues that may be encountered while attempting to upgrade. Please note that these issues may be seen if any of the key requirements outlined in Step 1 were not followed.
MUST READ BEFORE PROCEEDING:
Step 1 - Requirements needed to ensure a successful upgrade:
A fully charged Motorola ATRIX 4G™ with an active SIM card
A Micro SD card installed in your phone with approximately 20 MB of free space.
Your phone is on the latest Android 2.2 software Version.4.1.26.MB860.ATT.en.US or Version.4.1.57.MB860.ATT.en.US

Changing the user name and password actually worked for me
Thanks Alot man
I had the same problem when trying to use the phone in Japan with Softbank. Took some time to get to this thread.
What did you guys use to edit the file? I used ES File Explorer, didn't work until I did a chmod 777 to the "pppd-ril.options" file via adb.
I have same problem and I 'm trying to edit "pppd-ril.options" file on my rooted Motorola Atrix mobile and I'm not able to edit b'coz its in readonly mode and even tried to change permission of the file but got below error message.
/system/etc/ppp/peers # chmod 777 pppd-ril.options
chmod: pppd-ril.options: Read-only file system
I even tried using ES File Explorer to change permission but no success.

Ad-hoc Internet Connection Sharing to Galaxy S3

Hi guys,
I have a problem with the Ad-hoc internet sharing from my laptop to my Galaxy S3. It seems to be a problem with the S3 (rooted, but still on stock firmware) since the Ad-hoc method worked just fine with my old Galaxy S on CM9.
What's even funnier is that the S3 doesn't even detect the Ad-hoc Wifi Network... Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance
Try to add the Network manually and input the SSID (Network Name) and Security type and password.
Some android device may have a trouble when adhoc from notebook. The default ROM usually have this kind of problem.
How to Fix wifi Adhoc Problem;
1 Download wpa_suppliacant (delete .txt extansion)
2 Open ES Explorer / Root Explorer
3 Go to /system/bin/
4 Rename wpa_supplicant to wpa_supplicant_backup (just for backup)
5 Copy the wpa_supplicant file that you got from download to /system/bin/

8 Restart the device
Download Support File ;http://mobilecon.info/wp-content/plugins/download-monitor/download.php?id=Download+wpa_supplicant
Make adhoc connection from laptop (windows7)
Laptop settings;
1 Go to control panel -> network and internet -> network connection
2 Choose Lan card that using for connection, and then right click -> propertis -> share
3 Check all options, click OK
4 Choose Wifi connection, and then right click -> Properties
5 Now we make a static IP address
6 go to control panel -> all control panel items -> network and sharing center
7 For make a Adhoc network, click on wireless network -> add -> choose adhoc network
8 for security choose open (if you choose WEP type, it cannot detect from your smartphone).
9 wait for a moment
10 and you got your adhoc connection
Android settings
1 Go to Menu -> setting -> wireless and network setting -> wifi settings
2 Go to Menu -> Advance -> check ‘use static IP’
3 Done, you can try to connect using wifi adhoc connection (mark * before SSID, mean adhoc wifi)
Note: If your connections fail, try to turn off firewall and anti virus in Laptop
this method didn't work on galaxy s3
it makes it unable to even turn on the wifi

A lot of people have come up with the same idea, none successful to date.
Use the free program 'Connectify' on your computer, the networks it creates are "real" infrastructure AP and as such can be used by the S3.
Android doesn't support this out of the box, u need to apply patches to enable it to work...

could you please tell me if it worked for youe galaxy s3?
It does not work on my Galaxy S III.
For windows 7 laptops, perhaps just install connectify to save the hassles.

This you?
Make sure all needed permissions are enabled including in all associated apps like Wearables.
Try a network reset.
Try a hard reboot.
Clear system cache on the boot menu.
Try in safe mode.
Was the phone factory reset after the last major firmware upgrade? Was SmartSwitch used?
What do you mean by "Make sure all needed permissions are enabled". Which apps are needed to check the permissions?
Why should I need to reset network settings?
Already tried cache clear but did not work.
I think I should need to know on which apps this function depend as I disabled bixby, AR and other things i don't need when i bought the phone 2 years ago. But the Device output function was working then.
Tanks in advanced,

Look in the individual app settings under permissions. Android 12 may have other grouped options for this. The app may not have auto setup permissions properly.
Always try network reset when having connectivity issues; you'll need to reconfigure bt and wifi settings after this. Probably VPN too if you use it.
Those apps you disabled aren't dependencies or parent apps. Others may be... Google play Services maybe as well as some Samsung system apps. Not sure as Pie doesn't have that feature. Not present in Q either, I believe.
Play with it, explore settings, read other's solution (doesn't need to be the same model or even OS version to be applicable many times) eventually you'll find the solution.
Which is the app are you alking about checking its permissions?

All related apps... I'm not holding the device. Unfortunately there's always a learning curve with Androids.
edit: On second thought I'm sure a factory reset would do something for you.
What I tried to pilitely point is that your answersars have no value. And, of course there's a learning curve everywhere so it would be nice next time you reply on the forums you make sure you've already attained the learning curve point.
If someone knows what should I check in order to fix the issue, it would be nice to let me know
If it's not the case, It would also be very nice to not make people lose their time.
Thank you so much.
