Changing keyboards? - HTC EVO 3D

So, maybe I am just stupid, blind, or whatever. I cannot find how to change the keyboard on Evo 3D. I have Swiftkey and Swype on the device. Both are enabled. But how in the holy name of boobies do you start using it? Once Swiftkey did make an appearance at text entry, but next time I had to use the keyboard, HTC default keyboard came up.
Any tips?

Pull up something with a text entry box, press the box and hold down, and a little thing should pop up with Input Method. Click that and choose whichever keyboard you'd like

Wow, thanks, simple enough.

[Q] Keyboard arrow keys?

Where did they go? Is there a way to enable then? I found them really useful on my 4G, but I no longer have then in ny 3D o.o;
if you enable swype, there are arrow keys there,,,,,,,,you just touch the icon in the keyboard in the lower left corner and swype to the sym button next to it and let up,,,,,the arrow screen will appear
anyone find another keyboard with the arrows. i used them all the time like the op here. i don't really care for swype. i know it just takes getting use to but i can't seem to stick with it long enough. i really miss the arrows
I use SwiftKey. There is a free beta download in the marketplace. Have not had any problems and it has arrow keys.

I tried the swiftkey beta but i couldn't get used to it, seemed like the keys where smaller.
I too miss the arrows. I hate how it always saves words I don't want. At least with the arrows you could just highlight it and pick the word without adding it. Even a simple thing thing touch to add to text, then touch a second time to add to dictionary would be awesome. Also I think the word prediction and corrective spelling is worse on this keyboard.

Custom dictionary

Not quite sure how to explain this. But on my bb I could go into the dictionary and add my own words. For example, if I typed na(space) it would automatically come up "sorry not available". Does anyone know.how to do this on an android phone? I tried to find an option on my Samsung fascinate and droid charge, no luck.

Some keyboards allow you to do acronyms like Slide It I think.
Smart Keyboard Pro allows you to do this.

You can add them as you go on swype.
You can add them as you go with the stock keyboard too. As soon as you start typing a down arrow appears. Hit that and at the bottom there is a button that says add word. Or you can you can through the settings menu, language and keyboard, touch input then to personal dictionary.
You guys are misunderstanding... Basically he wants to add shortcuts... For example typing abc I can make it type out "my name is cares"

Swype keyboard

I installed swype keyboard but can't seem to change the selection to swipe. Xperia keyboard gesture line little too big. Is there a way to make the line smaller? Line cover the letter that's why I want make line smaller similar to swipe but I can't turn swype on even I selected in the language and keyboard setting
I downloaded Swype from there website and it works flawlessly.

You should be able to change it. Go to Settings -> Language & keyboard settings and check Swype. Then when you are at text entry area, hard-press in text area and choose "Input Method" and choose Swype here to see Swype keyboard permanently for text entry.
Anyone know how to get the 'Return' key when using Swype and the default messaging app?
I dont really want to change to another one (handscent for example) as I like the default colour scheme etc. but much prefer swype over the default keyboard!
Thanks.

I wonder why you need swype as I find the gesture input on the default keyboard very satisfactory.

I like swype over the default keyboard becuase I prefer to press and hold for symbols... Instead of choosing your word, then choosing symbol bank and then finaly being able to select your desired symbol.....

This is the one thing I really miss with the Sony keyboard coming from an HTC.
Yeah I tried persevering with the stock keyboard but keep instinctively going to press and hold for symbols! lol
I see no reason not to have them?!

[Q] How to quickly change keyboards in ICS?

So in Gingerbread if you wanted to switch between keyboards, it was pretty easy. You just did a long press in a text field, and you were presented with a list of "active" keyboards you could choose from.
This feature doesn't seem to exist in ICS, which is too bad, because there's one keyboard I like to use when typing (thumb keyboard) and another I like to use with the pen (Graffiti Pro), and it'd be nice to be able to do the long-press-switch move, or something similarly trivial.
Does anyone know if such a shortcut exists?
I'm going to answer my own question.
ICS doesn't allow the long press, but if you ever see the keyboard icon in the notifications bar, you can click it and it will bring up a list of keyboards to choose from. So... same difference.
Hope this info helps someone as confused as I was!
Also on most ICS keyboards, you can hold the scacebar to bring up a list of available keyboards.

Neat. Though that doesn't appear to work on Thumb Keyboard, and Grafitti Pro doesn't use a keyboard.

The LastPass keyboard also doesn't use the spacebar switching method. Looks like the notification bar is going to be the best way to do this in the OS. I'm also missing the long-press option.
I know I'm reviving an old thread, but I published Quick Keyboard Switch to accomplish just this a month ago.

Predictive Text Annoyances

I like predictive text, but I don't like than on my gs3 it replaces what I'm actually typing. Is there any way to change this behavior?
For example, say I'm typing "reason". Until I type "o" it says "areas" in the typing field (hiding "reas"). I want it to show me "reas", but also suggest "areas" in the area above the keyboard (so simply turning off predictive text isn't ideal).
+1
I also find this behavior extremely annoying. It wasn't like that in the GS2.
Just download a new keyboard! One that you like. I personally like Swiftkey 3. Some people say the swipe beta is pretty good too. However I have never used it.
Ics keyboard is free if you want to try, I go with Swiftkey, the extra bucks is wroth it IMO

+1 for android power of being able to pick your keyboard! There are *tons* of great keyboards out there, go check 'em out and find one that meets your needs!
For the record I use swiftkey and my wife likes gokeyboard.
When they keyboard pops up hold the microphone button left of the spacebar until a new menu pops up. From that menu select the setting icon. You can turn off and mess around with the predictions there.
I started using SwiftKey shortly after writing this post. I like it fairly well.
