Try renaming the downanimation.zip to Sprint_downanimation.zip and use root explorer to place it in system/customize/resource. Then change its permissions to Read, Write, Execute, Read, Read. That's what worked for me....

Honestly i havent tried any other downanimations yet but i will trying finding some now

I Had been searching for a way to change the animations and came across this very useful tool. I have used and it works really well you just have to remember to turn r/w in root explorer and it will name everything the way it needs to be and push it where it needs to go. No more placing on SD card and going back to RE, just save to correct location and run the file.

Boot animations? Splash screens?

Now that most of us have s-off and custom recovery, we need some customizations to hold us over until the roms start flooding in.
I saw a Portal 2 boot animation and got the bootanimation.zip from the teaser thread, but flashing it did a whole lot of nothing.

I want that boot animation too
E3D
I'm anxiously awaiting some boot screens tailored for the 3d too. Cant wait
You can use existing boot animations here is how:
Find the one you want and download it
Rename the boot animation to Sprint_bootanimation.zip
Use root explorer to go to /system/customize/resource find Sprint_bootanimation.zip copy it to a safe place
Get back to /system/customize/resource and delete Sprint_bootanimation.zip(in root explorer you have to mount r/w)
Then copy and paste the new Sprint_bootanimation.zip to /system/customize/resource
The stock animation is 540 x 960
I have tried a few and it works fine, but i'll be waiting for some 3d anim.
http://alpharev.nl/bootanimation.zip try this one yet?
I just did works fine, looks like a star wars scene mixed with a blue droid eye. I'm gonna use it for a while.

Anybody have any pics or videos of this before I blindly flash it to satisfy my urge to flash anything!
It's the ending sequence / scene of portal 2.
It didn't install for me. It said 'Updating package' and just went back to the menu. I tried several times.
Tried this, but when I try to mount r/w in root explorer, nothing happens. it still says Mount R/W and doesn't change to R/O

Android Gears Bootanimation

I found this over in the Sensation forums, and it works well/ looks good on our phone. I haven't tried the green one. I used Root Explorer to put .zip in /system/ customize/ resource, renamed to Sprint_bootanimation.zip, and changed the permissions to match the original Sprint_bootanimation.zip (renamed to Sprint_bootanimation.zip.bak)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198316
thanks
Thanks for the heads up OP! works great. picked the blue one.
NICE find...Thanks...
wow very nice find bro thanks!
So csn anybody help me? Im trying the blue one, I pushed it to system/customize/resource....renamed it Sprint_bootanimation.zip changed permissions to match the sprint_downanimation.zip....and I only get a black screen when rebooting phone

Maybe try downloading the bootanimation again? Sounds like you're doing everything else right...... I have seen that some roms have the bootanimation in /data/local.
Added the blue one, looks nice, just need to add a sound to it, lol
Thanks given!
There's a zip file on the 3rd page of that thread. Is that okay to flash through recovery?

I wouldn't just because it was made for another phone. If you decide to try it, make a nandroid backup first!
I'm just having trouble covering the basics. I try renaming the original animation to .bak, but I'm getting denied. I can't swap files through Astro or ES Explorer.

I got time to loose, Ill try the green android one and report back once done...
Hmmm, Installed without issues, But made no change on my evo. Still has the ViperRom boot anim.
Yeah, I flashed the blue one through recovery with no problem, but no changes were made.
I do like the animation and hope to get it on my phone.
You have to mount the system as R/W to make changes. Also, not all roms have the bootanimation in the same place and/ or named the same thing (i.e. a Sensation bootanimation flashed through recovery isn't going to replace one named Sprint_bootanimation.zip).
Alright,
So after I remount, I can pull the original zip from /system/customize/resource
The new animation is on the sdcard. What's the proper syntax to push?
adb push / sdcard/Sprint_bootanimation.zip /system/customize/resource?
I got it, nevermind...
I just switched out the files from my PC once I pulled the original file.
It works now.

[HOW-TO] Set your custom bootanimation without a PC+ Links

This is just a quick and easy way to download and set your bootanimation. I didn't make these so credits go to them I just created the video and links to some of the better threads here on XDA. Some are Galaxy Nexus animations but look quite good on the Transformer.
Option#2 Thanks to Lock-N-Load
INSTEAD of putting it in /system/media/ and deleting and/or backing up your old bootanimation as talked about, just put your new one into /data/local/ and presto.... done. No delete, no backup and when your done with it just delete yours from that location and the stock bootanimation kicks back in as /data/local just overrides the stock location of /system/media/ much easier, faster and less effort and no chance of ooops

noob question alert
Hi ppls, sorry in advance for my noobishness...
I'm just looking for one small straight answer about loading boot animations:
Do you have to root a Transformer Prime with ICS to replace the boot animation in either location? I was under the impression that the data/local/ folder didn't require rooting - am I incorrect in this assumption? I just keep getting 'permission denied' messages when attempting to alter the data folder... if it is possible can someone tell me what the heck I am doing wrong??
To stop you all foaming at the mouth at my obviously stupid noobish question, here's a Portal/Aperture Science PC retro boot animation I made for myself based off the ascii art in the credits of Portal 1:

Yeah, you can. You don't need a sd card, because the bootanimation is in the internal memory.
Cheers buddy.
i tried to change it yesterday and dowloaded the new bootanimation to my pc i copied it over to the phone (dragged and dropped it), but when i check the phone via es file explorer i cant see it so thought you needed an sd card in the first place.
And do i just delete the old bootanimation from my phone or do i back it up somewhere.
Will have another go tonight.

check to make sure its not an entire update zip that you are pushing to your system media, aslong as it just consists of a desc.txt and a few parts, yeh you can push it there as described. if its an update.zip, just use it or if you want, extract the files and the smaller bootanimation.zip will be inside for you.
