[Q] Does my retail tab think it's I/O? (tried to unroot, now no touchwiz update)) - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Forum,
I'm having a difficult time with my retail 10.1 wifi tab. I had previously rooted using odin and instructions on a website so that I could load an altered wpasupplicant file. However, I noticed that touchwiz ux wouldn't install yesterday (it would download, restart, get to 13%, then boot and tell me the update failed; happened many times).
So, I unrooted using this method:
"watch?v=xiSXcMbYqfs" (comes after the slash in a youtube.com url, I can't post links apparently)
and did a factory reset. When I went to update, it loaded "P7510UEKG4" (the 11 something mb update), which provided me with a "movies" program. I was under the impression that this update was for the I/O tab, which I don't have. Now, the touchwiz update is unavailable.
Can someone explain to me (or direct me to a site to) return my retail tab back to 100% stock settings? I don't know what is going on with it, but I just want it back to how it came to me.
Thanks!
Jim

Exact same position as you.
I tried the OTA 3.1 (KF3) and only got 11mb update that locked the bootloader.
I am currently trying to go back to 3.0 then update.

same thing happened to me and I have not found a solution sadly. i just installed the rom posted for UEKMB as that puts you back on a retail ver. just it is rooted and such.

I'm back at 3.0.1 but still can't get an update using kies and through settings

I was in the exact position also. Reinstalled CWM, installed stock ROM with TW-rooted, from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198921
Everything is perfect. Movies show up in market, Netflix still works perfect. This is how Samsung should have released this tablet. I really like TW and the additional apps preloaded (swype, media hub, etc...)

I'm in the same boat as well. B00sted, did that rom you mentioned work for you? Where did you get it if it did.

I guess I'm gonna have to use this, I just wanted to go back to stock so i could get OTA updates without hassle.

I felt the same way also, but with the eaze of using Clockwork Mod, this is really a non issue for me anymore. This is the first Android device I've doing any hacking on and it is so easy I will probably do my HTC Incredible soon.

Thanks gpgofast, I took the route you suggested. Everything's in order. Only problem is that now my wpa_supplicant replacement doesn't work and I can't connect to my droid's ad hoc network (which is why I rooted the tab in the first place). Oh well, that's a topic for a different thread.
Thanks,
Jim

Why don't you just load up the this stock rooted rom and use Netflix, Samsung Media Hub(Google market movies) and your wpa_supplicant.?
ALso,here is the stock firmware that Samsung provides go to bottom of page for all the info you need. You could also go to the first post in Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Development and go to this link from there. Its in big red words after the CWM recovery menu list.

Hi tdavis, that's what I did (loaded up the stock rooted rom at the link you pasted, and replaced the stock wpa_supplicant). When I do this, wifi won't start, it says "error". Maybe it's a touchwiz thing? The wpa_supplicant I used was created pre-touchwiz. Here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1083182.html
Note: this worked just fine when I was using a previous (non-touchwiz) stock rooted rom. This was the previous rooting method I used:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krQDP7xYlWg
Any thoughts?
One other thing... I did load the stock rom that you mentioned in the second part of your post. With it, I couldn't get the touchwiz update, which is why I installed the stock rooted touchwiz rom you mentioned.

OK, nevermind, the modified wpa_supplicant works fine on the stock rooted touchwiz rom
If you find yourself in the same position as me, remember you have to change the permissions for the new wpa_supplicant file so that it can execute. Also remember to put your tab in airplane mode while swapping the file, and to restart when you're done. (I didn't change the file as suggested by the original poster, I just used root explorer to swap the file).
As noted by the original poster of the wpa_supplicant file, after you disconnect from an adhoc network, you should restart wifi (or else you can't connect to other networks, at least I couldn't). You may also have to "forget" your ad-hoc network before you connect to that network on subsequent occasions (had to do this on the last stock rooted rom, haven't tried on this one yet, but assume it's the same). Small price to pay, works great.
Thanks everyone, thread SOLVED.

Nice. Glad you got it working. I hardly get an answer from one person its always a pieced together answer.

Issiues with my second hand Hero.

Hello,i just my second hand HTC Hero, and i need some help.
First of all,the phone is not rooted.Should i try to root it now,or i should wait for 2.1 to come out first?
In the phone there are contacts from previous owner. How can i mass delete them? Also,is there any easy way to transfer contacts from my old Sony Ericsson W910i to HTC Hero?
Another question, maybe not in the right place,is can i enable my onboard wifi card so it works as a wifi hotspot? This is the only way to have wifi for my Hero in my home.I tried the Cnet video, that shows how to make that, but it does not work on my windows 7 64bit.Maybe need to change the settings on something
Since now i don't have a viable internet for my mobile (not even 3G works atm),is there a way to browse and download apps from android market?
Also,i would like to know if there is any trigger button for 3g,so i disable it when i don't need it,in order to save some battery? What i have in mind is a sortcut similar to wifi, bluetooth and GPS.
Last but not least, the previous owner has his google acount name on the phone, and i am unable to change it to my google account, because i can't find any option that let me change account name.Is it possible to delete the old google account and put mine?
More questions are about to come, but thats all for now.
Thanks in advance.
Best to root it before the official 2.1 release as it might become much harder/impossible after the update. Root it, install a custom recovery, wipe the device & flash a new custom ROM. This will also remove all traces of the last owner including their google account. There's lots of info on how to do all of this on xda-dev.
You can access quite a lot of Android apps on the web, but there's no access to the official on device Android market via the web.
Toggling 3G. Not sure I've seen a widget for this, but you can usually turn it off in settings, depending on the ROM you're running. Failing that there's a dialable code which will do the job. That said, if this is just about saving battery life, you'll find lots of others tweaks to help with that. It's a common subject that comes up time & time agan.
I can't offer informed help with sharing your Windows 7 internet access, but I imagine you need to turn on Internet Connection Sharing, or whatever it's called now, on whichever interface connects your PC to the internet. The PC wifi interface probably doesn't even need to act as an access point, if you only need the Hero to connect to it; ad-hoc networking should be adequate. I'd concentrate on sorting the wifi first. When you can ping the PC from your Hero & vice versa, then move on to the ICS aspect.
Thanks for the answer. If i root the phone, can i put HTC ROM back,or i must pick a custom ROM?

No no,... You can use a custom ROM, or flash stock ROMS if you decide to do so.
Take a look at Modaco's Stock ROMs or at the "stickies" at the top of the Hero Android Development section here at XDA.
Peace Out.
I have some extra issues so i thought that its better to post them here instead of making a new thread.
So here we are:
I tried to root my phone according to One Click Root on unlockr.com.Everything seems to be ok but my phone is not rooted.
My hero runs 2.73.405.5 build.Maybe i have to downgrade?
Also i would like to ask if there is a serious reason to install a new radio.I think that it should be fine with the default one isn't it?

The build you are running isn't rooted by default but you can install a recovery image on it and get a custom rom which is rooted installed. (follow my guide for details)
Radio updates can improve your signal.
Thank you i will try your guide.Actually i tried with Amon RA 1.5.2 to load latest Modaco Rom.Everything seemed to be ok,but then when i rebooted phone the original rom was loaded again and nothing happened with the Modaco rom.
How can i update Amor RA 1.5.2 to latest?Just do the whole process again but with the new version (1.6.2)?

Full restore of T-Mobile Vibrant t-959 to custom ROM

I have used an uinlocked tmobile vibrant for a few years now an have had various ROMs inbstalled. However several mo0nths ago it came up semi-brain dead after running Team Whiskey.
Since restoring to what I thought was an original image downloaded from the web, I soon discovered that I could no longer access Google Play/ Android Market. I tried everything and could no longer even restore previous ROM images. I have since discovered that the image was for a T959V and this identifies itself as 4G when it is ion fact not.
I am convinced that there is something fundamentally wrong with file system or the like. Over the months I have also had an increased lag and just weird things happening like the Edge network icon appearing wile connected to wifi , frequent hangs, etc.
I would like to achieve the following if possible
A complete reformat / restore to a more recent ROM in as few steps as possible.
A ROM new enough to hopefully run XBMC on my phone if possible
Update modem firmware??? As I am in Mexico with this phone and would like to access TelCel 3G band and can currently access only Edge
Rooted
unlocked
relatively bug free
Front facing camera hack support as I would like to add hardware
Questions
What is the recommended newest and most stable ROM? Will it run xbmc on this phone?
Can I do a clean install to a third patty ROM?
Will modem firmware get past the frequency band limitations to use the 3G network on TelCel Mexico?
What is the critical stuff to back up?
On an unrelated note does anyone know if the T959V (4g) case will fit on the t959 (3g). I ask this because the lense cover on my case has become fogged. I need to replace this part, and the cases I find on ebay that have this part are for the t959v . Those for the t959 do not have this part. Maybe someone knows where I can get this?
Thanks in advance
Mark
I would use the toolbox, revert to stock, your play problems should be alleviated, however when using odin use Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.tar. Eclair is dead to playstore and Rom manager. always keep a backup of your IMEI on your sd/card and computer its important. Use the Update .zip for root its all in the search.Try ics zen if you can find it, verrrrry nice. ciao
pm me on the photo prob, I have a toast vib thats in the desk, it may have more parts than the photo screen if you need it.

Thannks for the reply
Correct me if I am wrong but stock is Eclair. Are you saying that I should revert to a stock Froyo via odin? Everything I have read said I always had to do eclair first. Should I ODIN directly to this Froyo image

??
I tried that download and from mexico it said "this offer is not calid in your area" neither selecting skip ad , nor waiting resulted in anything. I then went through a USA proxy and all I get is a download manager windows exe file. Wonder why people post importyant files to sites like this when they are so often problematic?
What toolbox do you refer to?
Do you mean ICZen as found on this page?

new to Anrdroid. Bought a modified G3. Please Help

Hey people,
My names Aaron and I've recently acquired a used LG G3 which is modified.
Everything seems to work just fine, except for 1 issue.
basically, when on data OR wifi, some websites (ex: msn.com) will not connect page says "err-connection refused" and I've had this happen on a handful of other websites.
so my network is apparently not configured properly.
This brings me to my main point, it must be the modified software, right?
I've attached a picture of my software info. When I hard reset my phone, Skydragon and TWRP booted up. It also had SuperSU and Xposed Framework downloaded on it.
Please let me know if this is outdated software. How and if I should remove it or just remove the kernal back to stock.. etc...
and let me know if these mods could cause select network connection issues with random websites.
Just get me started in the right direction. Thank you so much,
Aaron
That's based on the latest official stock ROM, so it's not out of date. I wouldn't trust any used phone that has a custom ROM on it. Color me paranoid or overly cautious, who knows if they modified the SkyDragon ROM so that even a factory reset left something behind you wouldn't be aware of or like.
First, look for the latest TWRP v2.8.5.0 in Development or Original Development of these Verizon LG G3 sections. Then look for the already rooted stock market 12B ROM probably in one of those two sections, download it, wipe data, system, cache and Dalvik cache and internal storage from TWRP, flash (install) that zip from TWRP and you should be good. Then do a backup and install any ROM you want to play with downloaded from here where you can trust the source.

'Modified' happens as soon as you root the phone, regardless of the ROM. That shouldn't be your problem. You're on stock based 12b skydragon with what I think is the 10b baseband. 12b is the latest stock software so you're ok there, but if that's a 10b radio you may want to upgrade. Here is a link for modem files to get better reception(post #4): http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/rom-jasminerom-v1-0-t2904641
11c works well and 12b is the most current modem. Both will work for your ROM.
If only certain web sites are still not connecting look and see if an ad blocker is installed, disable it, and try those sites again. And I don't know what kernel that is but go ahead and try skydragon kernel for your ROM. Its a stock based kernel and works great.
You're already rooted, recovery & with Xposed...you got a good deal

I am running the NORMA s6 port ROM on my Sprint note 3, it took a lot of searching and edits but I finally got my network to show up as Boost Mobile AND I have working 4g (working 3g and 1x too).
MMS, GPS, NFC all work as well.
I don’t have 10 posts yet so I can’t contribute on main thread, but when I get home later today I will post my build.prop for you if you’d like. It contains some edits at the bottom of it which were placed there from a “universal boost apn fix” I flashed from the “LG all things root” guide I frequented when I had the LG Volt.
After flashing this, and editing my apns.conf file to have the appropriate info for Boost apn, my lte started working and I haven’t had to mess with my phone ever since.

There are some more things that you will need to edit to enable all of the Boost mobile features for the rom. Specifically in CSC. If you need more info send me a PM and I can help you get your rom even sweeter!
I don't know if this is the right place to be posting this. So forgive me if this question is in the wrong place. I upgraded (with Odin v3.07) from 4.4.4 to NH7 (I believe) and then to OC5. Everything worked fine until I tried to install TWRP. It wouldn't work. It just refused to replace the stock recovery with TWRP. So I finally got Odin to reinstall the software (OC5) again after doing a factory reset and cache reset. After getting OC5 to work I booted to stock recovery. When I rebooted into the OS, I started getting before booting was complete, a message saying, "Unfortunately<An App> has stopped". Pulled the battery, replaced it and same thing. Has anyone seen this before, and if so what did you do to fix this?
Thank you,
Owen M, Jones
I don't know if there is any missing info on your explanation. I did notice problems on the ota. I also noticed differences between ota and full odin tar. The first difference i noticed with the full odin tar is the android wiggled its antennas. The second thing I noticed was the initial setup looked different vs ota.
I was also getting system app stopped responding message. I was also too aggressive with titanium backup freezes. Things I used to get away with, were mucking up operation. Out of final despair, I decided to only freeze apps that showed up in the regular app menu, that I didn't use. So far, no force closes. A week or so has past and no issues so far. There area few apps that are showing up in play updates, that aren't in the normal app menu list, and I'm not updating them. The app isn't responding got so bad for me that i couldn't get fully booted to back up anything, and lost data that I wish I could have backed up. Oc5 is tempermental.
My latest snafu was freezing apps so much that settings didn't work. I unfroze everything and only froze apps that were in the app menu. Before I did that, wifi and wifi calling were forced on and a reboot wouldn't turn things off causing that state. That's why I said oc5 is very touchy when digging under the hood and stopping apps and services that you might think are bloat. I might disable ant, which is an app for monitoring fitness hardware, but I just leave it alone and don't update it.

FIRST odin CF auto-root. THEN odin the latest TWRP that supports your specific device model. SM-N900P. If Odin fails to flash TWRP by doing it in this order then contact the TWRP team and see if they can look into it.

Don't go freezing stuff willy nilly. There's no need for that and it will cause problems. There's too many dependecies and freezing the wrong app will effect other system apps/services. Battery life is great if you turn of services that you don't use.

Both methods should have worked for you, but just have in mind that you can't use the same odin from cfauto root to flash other tar files than the cfautoroot one, and also you won't be able to flash an img file using odin it has to be a .tar or .md5.

Can anyone deodex, debloat, and post a deodexed and deobloated N915PVPU5DQI5?

Edit: They do keep coming!
I looked into doing it, and there is no way in hell that I should be a) doing it, and b) unleashing it onto the world. It would be bad.
I only have the one phone to test it on and can't risk messing it up and I don't have the experience to work on it if it didn't come out perfectly.
I expect that it will be the last Sprint ROM released for this phone, We're nearing the end of support, so it would be good to have these final versions "fixed" and available
...on the off chance a few developers will jump right in and cook up a few mega ROMs for us.
DQG1 Root and Xposed (rewritten)
On a related note, I installed stock DQA1 DQG1, using the usual CF Autoroot, battery pull thingy process Odin for the ROM and TWRP, then booting once, booting into recovery, and then installing SuperSU and it rooted fine. No loss of settings or anything else as far as I can tell.
I did have to install the latest versions of the Xposed files. After rooting and custom recovery (TWRP works fine), install XposedInstaller_3.1.4.apk first like any other apk, then go to recovery and install Wanam v87.1-alt-sdk23-arm-custom-build, but everything (Xprivacy, etc.) worked fine. Keep in mind, you HAVE to use the "alt" (see the "alt" in the file name above?) version or else it won't work. Samsung made some changes, blah, blah, blah. Much thanks to Wanam!
New side note: I did do a factory wipe, and even after reinstalling everything, and using a ROM that contains bloatware, I still have like 40% more space on the phone. I truly don't know what happened there.
Anyone have any thoughts as to kernel? I downloaded Emotion r26 RC1, and BeastModeKernel 1.0BETA, but I haven't tried them yet.
EDIT: Emotion r26 RC1 works fine, but it doesn't seem like CPU freqs are ever going to stick.
No surprise that neither Emotion nor BeastModeKernel worked; I haven't seen anything else that may.
Thoughts anyone?
Both kernels are good, emotion has a few more options to tweak but I took an update a month or two ago and run NotEdge ROM fine , I just use SO launcher with it because I like TW, also latest xposed is 86.1 and I wish I could do what your asking but it probably would be just as bad you'll be fine with that ROM I just suggested it has everything u just requested just make a nandroid and do it at home in case you do something wrong you can always ODIN back your firmware

D'oh!!
Eating a little crow here. So far, there have been two three 742 updates, maybe there will be more. Who knows?
But I edited the title of the first post. Again. Again. 741 times.
Do you guys have a link to the stock unrooted rom? My phone is royally screwed right now and still stock. I want to do a clean flash and see if that fixes it.
Over a year later, and the still keep coming.
Hmmmm.
I did take another gander around, but it seems that I would need Linux to do it correctly, so I am still opting out of doing it myself.

Hello i got a note 4 Sprint MM 6.0.1 N910PVPU5DQI5 . i am from Argentina, and i bought the phone used from a guy from USA. (i don`t know how but it`s working with the bands here but i dont know if 4g is working, the guy says it works, maybe i don`t have 4g singal in my zone) .
the phone works fine, but has some srpint stuff and ads that bother me. so i flashed TWRP , and now i am looking for any roms and kernels to flash.
for example, is safe to flash this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/rom-updated-1-14-2017-t3538051
or should i change something first ???.
