[Bad day] i9100 wifi issues - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!. Today is a bad day for me My wifi sucks. Yesterday evening I could use it to video call with my friends. This morning when I turned on the wifi, it turned off after a few seconds, it could not scan the wifi at home.

Now im on Leomar V2.4 with Luzl v12 built 25 and the wifi is still turning off, no network found
I've read alot about this issues, tried every ways, kernel but nothing changes;(

Make sure your WiFi is not using any channels above 11. If so, the stock firmware is able to briefly scan and find the wireless but not connect.
I had/have the same issue and the only way to fix was to change my wireless to use a lower channel and not auto switch channels.
Turns out this was (I believe) a limit in 2.3.3. Though I've tested on 2.3.4 (Nexus S) and this has the same issue.
I posted a similar problem else where and one person responded saying that (the leaked ) stock 2.3.4 firmware in wireless -> advanced settings has an option to set Regulatory <something> that allows all channels to be used.
Hope this helps,

I got a same issue. And, I had changed a lot of ROMs but still in this condition. Did you found the solution? Thank you very much

I get the same issue...
When i go to wifi settings and turn it on, it starts scanning and seconds later it turns off. Sometimes it won't even turn on and i have to make a hard reset.
Tried different ROMs and android versions but that was to no avail...
Any ideas?

my s2 also have problem on wifi and hotspot.. when i try to switch on the hotspot.. there is an error underneath.
can somebody help?
i oso flashed 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 firmware but jus no help..

Found any solution ?

SOD problems starting from WIFI

Hey all!
Just started this thread to explain something about SOD and phone SHUT DOWNS by itself.
I was NEVER BEFORE have these problems, like SOD or SHUT DOWN phone by itself, till now. I sure that it was related to one WIFI program, what I downloaded yesterday(Unlock With Wifi). Today I activated the app and I have phone SHUT DOWN by itself, like 3 times in hour. If I disabled the app, I solved the problem(for now I already UNINSTALLED that app).
Now I sure, that our SOD and S.DOWN problem not hardware problem, but SOFTWARE related problem.
I want to say you all, who have SOD or S.D...., look what app you have installed(what can use wifi) or in phone settings and try several times to configure your wifi(one of most: dont but your wifi to sleep, when screen is OFF), untill you solve you problem.
If you too know some examples, from you experience, then share with us here!
THX for reading!
Hope it will HELP someone.
CHEERS!
I'll try if turning off wifi will help. It should if this is wifi related problem.

Hey!
Like I sayed, just try different things with WIFI settings. I think turning OFF wifi, will solve the problem, until you turning it back(when you have the problems). We will see, dose it solve the problem, if you turn OFF WIFI.
CHEERS!
You got the nail on spot. I was also in the same impression with SOD. Till now I'm not able to Figure out the app which cause this. But yes this is software issue rather than hardware. I also read else where that the SOD cause because of the lower voltage supplied to processor during sleep with which its not able to get itself up from sleep. Not sure...
I have a app that turns the wifi off when I lock the screen (dont remember which one of my apps!) so I havent experience it for awhile.
Sleep as an droid has a feature that shuts down the sleep tracker at a certain procentage (I chose 20%), instead of shutting the sleep tracker down, it shuts down the whole phone. Both of the times that i got SOD my phone had 20% left of its battery, so it was pretty obvious what caused it.
Sleep bot tracker is a great app if you forget to shut down your wi-fi before going to bed. Make it a habit to track your sleeping time, in the same time ull make it a habit to turn you wifi off. It has a built in function that shuts off the wifi when u start tracking your sleeping time. This app does not bring you and SOD.
What, but the general advise to sod had always been to check wifi always on...

I noticed that this problem is only for those who are using the older firmwares including XXKPH or the ROMs whose base are 2.3.4 KPH.
Haven't encountered this problem in the Samsung July 2011 release of 2.3.3 (KPN). But I guess, this is a good post for those who are still experiencing this.
For now, I'm just happy with KPN (that's why I'm not as active before here in the forums).
Before I flashed to 2.3.4 KPH, my Wifi worked flawlessly.
Now my Wifi reception is extremely limited (I have to be in direct line of sight to the router within 2 meters to be able to get a stable connection)
and
I get those dreaded SoDs (sleep of deaths).
My question:
Is it possible to flash only the modem file of 2.3.3 to try whether that works?
If yes, will my current system be wiped if I only flash the modem file?

If you don't use the video chat in Google Talk, then why not just flash 2.3.3 KPN?
The only new feature in 2.3.4 is the video chat in Google talk. Most bug fixes are now in the July 2011 release of 2.3.3 KPN.
Yes, I'm contemplating to do that.
But as I've spent a bit over a weeks time to set my system up, I would like to know if it's possible to just flash the modem without touching the already working system.
edit: I see KPN is a single file flash, so I won't be able to flash only the modem. Ok, backup and downgrade it is.
I've only experienced SOD once... But I always have wifi off. Just on when I'm going to use it. Afterwards I turn it off and good bye SOD issue

Hey!
Dont know exactly, but I think that you can restore your system settings and other system things, with TITANIUM BACKUP. Backup the ALL SYSTEM DATA in batch menu. Go to TITANIUM BACKUP>Menu>batch. Pick: backup all system data and RUN THE BATCH. After that, flash you ROM(what ever you want) and try to restore all system settings from TITANIUM B.. Ofcourse, what ever happens, I suggesting you do NANDROID BACKUP from CWM recovery, before you start anything. If nothing works(or **** happens), you can RESTORE ALL FROM NANDROID BACKUP.

Update: I flashed 2.3.3 KPN and did a factory reset.
The SOD problems are gone now,
but
the bad wifi reception still remains. (Connection to router only works within an extremely close range)
If I cannot find a fix for this problem I might try out a froyo firmware.
Did anybody have a similar problem? Would really appreciate some hints.

Hey!
I think its not ROM-s problem. Try look your Router settings and phone settings. I think something is not right in PHONE or ROUTER settings. Not seen this kinde of problem YET, with ANY ROM. Try to look.
One question: dose you not DROP you phone or similar? I seen little problems can happen, even nothing SERIOUS was done(like speaker, wifi and other HARDWARE problems).

Wifi issues

I've been having issues with wifi on my tab. I visit a friends house and it won't pick up the wifi. My phone picks it up fine, laptops pick it up ect. I stand AT the router and still it doesn't pick it up.
I thought it was a 1 off but it started happening at work too. The only differenceis that is WAS working fine at work, now won't pick it up. And now I have the same issue at my parents.
Does anyone else have this issue? Does anyone know a fix?
Cheers
Try wifi sleep policy and play with the options. Mine was set to "Never" and I was having random problems. Now set to "when screen turns off", and I never lose connection, screen on or off... On the other hand your problem may be different.
/reviveThread
Can't be sleep policy as it picks up other wireless networks fine.
I was just living with this issue until it lost my Home Wifi! Now thats gone I have to turn Hotspot on my phone, which I shouldn't have to do.
I thought it might be a problem with the ROM, so I've tried Task's GalaxyTask v5.0 and I still have the same issue. Might try flashing Stock and seeing if I get the same issue.
This is doing my head in now!
I flashed 3.2 Stock (rooted) and it picked up the missing Wifi connections. The rom is full of hebrew with silly boot and shutdown animations though. Tried flashing several custom 3.2 ROMS other than that and same issue as before.
Also, added connection manually and stood next to the Wifi antenna at work. Still got nothing. WTH is going on?
I read somewhere that Galaxy tab is not able to connect to some channels of wifi.
I believe it was not working with channels above 11
Try changing the channel and check
Thanks for the reply.
My home network is on channel 3. Plus it doesn't really explain how it can work 1 sec then totally disapear forever. Also doesn't explain how it works with the stock hebrew ROM but not with any others I've tried.
Just trying to find the wireless details for work now so I can change the channel anyway.
Then go with the Hebrew Rom and select English as language

I'd rather have no Wifi than see that nasty looking shutdown animation.
Anyway, problem seems to be semi resolved now.
Changed my wireless from channel 2 to 12, still didn't show. Back to 2, still didn't show. Changed it to 10 and it magically appeared.
Not sure what the work one is on. Still waiting for access.

[Q] Galaxy S2 not enabling 3g/data automatically after moving out from wifi

Hi,
I posted this query in another forum, did not get any response so posting here too.
I have tried searching the www for this but not getting a good answer that will solve my problem. My samsung galaxy s2 has stock android gingerbread 2.3.3.
When I stay in a wifi network long enough and then I move out from a wifi network , 3G/data does not automatically enable. However long I wait, there is no 3G connectivity. HSPA/3G icon does appear sometimes but there is no "actual" connectivity. I have tried going to "flight mode" and back, tried disabling/enabling data network, nothing seems to work. Only a hard restart to the phone works and when it boots up next time, 3G/HSPA connectivity is just fine. And the problem repeats itself whenever I go back to a wifi network and come out.
I took my phone to customer care, they re-installed 2.3.3 and it seemed to work for sometime. However after a few days, I am back to square one. I tried the MMI *#9900# which disables 3g fast dormancy, did not help.
Any solutions ?

Did you get your problem resolved? I have the exact problem. When i move away from wifi area i see the data connection indicator 3g or h, but there is no real data connectivity. Toggling data connection off and off seems to make it work again. I did a factory reset and updated to the latest firmware but still no help.
Well, Using Odin re-installed firmware I downloaded from android soul. It was a slightly different version: I9100XXKL1_I9100OXAKL1. And since it had a pit file I re-partitioned as well while using Odin. It worked well, but phone had frequent reboots.
Took to the service center; they initially claimed that is how it works on all galaxy s2 phones and is by design . After much detailed explaining, I told them to just load the latest firmware for the phone. I am currently on:
Baseband: I9100DDKL1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKL1-CL809037 [email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKL1
It's been a day and the wifi to 3g switch happens seamlessly. Let's hope it stays that way for good. Will update in a couple of days.

Braking connection via WiFi and freeze on lockscreen caused by WiFi

Hello,
I became a proud owner of S3. As it usually happens to me there is the problem. Namely, from time to time problem happens to me when I'm using any web browser or anything that requires an Internet connection. Say for example Opera. I'm browsing pages and suddenly ... BOOM ... 3-5 second pause in the connection over WiFi (energy saving is off and in WiFi settings - I did it via code, in the service menu). Sometimes Internet connection breaks when I'm browsing menu or writing an SMS. For example: I browse the menu and suddenly I see - WiFi stamp disappears and after a while there is info about that phone is connected again. This is the first problem.
The phone is lying, WiFi operates in the background. When I Pick up the phone and when I'm clicking home (or power) button I get the lock screen and. .. freeze. Phone is disconnected from WiFi and only time the phone reconnects to WiFi I can unlock the screen.
On what ROM were the problems? On the Stock LF2, ROOTed LF2, Omega 7.1 - 9.0 and AOKP Milestone6.
And also it does not work automatic refresh of weather (at 1 h interval) on stock widget (the Samsung weather widget).
Sorry for my bad English.
Why couldn't you have just set your wifi to never turn off in settings, wifi, advanced.....it's practically the same thing....I wouldn't be messing around with the service menu. I would wipe data/factory reset and start again bud but this time, stay away from the service menu as it's for technicians and phone repairs etc I've not once touched the service menu....
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium HD app
I found the same problem ever since I upgraded to LH3 (the latest official release at this moment). The lock screen is frozen if: I had the WiFi Switched On, screen off either manually or timeout, then disconnected (say if I walk away from the wifi service area). When I press Power or Home button to wake the device, the lock screen is frozen.
Seems no freeze if wifi remains connected. Seems no freeze if wifi power saving mode is off (disabled via *#0011# (but setting won't stay if unit is power off).
Did both Cache wipe (didn't do factory reset) but makes no difference. Tried "never turn off" also makes no difference (probably because it will turn off anyway when connection is dropped)
The upgrade seems worser than before...
Any hints please...
This seems to be common but not always the same fix, my wifi constantly drops out and reconnects immediately (ruining any downloads/streaming) , i have tried the service mode, factory reset, different kernels, sleep time, static IP's, JB vs ICS Roms / Stock roms, you name it i have tried it and it STILL is doing it. Weird thing is..dont think it dropped out and reconnected when i was stock and unrooted, but as i said, tried stock rom and to no avail
Any ideas?

I have this issue on my galaxy note N7000, and only recently for like a month now and on various different ROMs all JB. Any updates on what the cause could be?
Go full unrooted stock and send the phone in for warranty repair. It's the smartest thing to do if a problem persists after lots of ROM switching and factory resetting.

That's would be the smartest thing to do, indeed. But... Warranty expired centuries ago.
Any clue what is causing this not uncommon problem?

Try visiting a(not crowded) place with public Wi-Fi, and see if the issue persists.
If it starts to work fine, get a new router, preferably with 802.11n support. If you buy a N compatible router, check all of your Wi-Fi capable devices for N support, and if one of them doesn't, make them N compatible(if it's a computer, get a new N compatible Wi-Fi card or USB reciever, if it's something else, well, you can't do anything else other than buying a newer version of it with N support, or not using that device's Wi-Fi feature at all) because your router will operate at an older mode even if one of your devices doesn't support N.

[Q] Wi-fi connectivity issues

Basically I have two S3s, now my own one works fine with the wifi, I can leave the house, come back and it will auto re-connect (as it should). My dads one however does not do this, sometimes you have to manually go back into the wifi settings and click on the network for it to reconnect.
Now since the jelly bean update a few days (I'm not sure if it was because of this update, or it was already dodgy) but sometimes the wifi does not connect at all. I've checked the settings which are the exact same as my own phone, but nothing. I am currently sitting 2ft away from my router and it has said 'connecting...' for about 10 minutes. I restarted the phone and it connected, I then turned the wifi off and back on to see if it would connect but it didn't (I've also had a combination of varying statues such as 'Saved, Secured', 'Authentication Error' etc etc.). Meanwhile my own phone is working perfectly well.
I've tried turning the wifi PMS off but that didn't make a difference. I would prefer solutions that aren't 'factory reset your phone' if there are any , but if this is the only solution then so be it. Neither phone is rooted (I don't know if this makes a difference), I hope I haven't repeated a question that has already been asked, I did have a look for similar threads but couldn't find anything that helped/worked.
Thanks in advance for any help.
