[Q] VillainROM or Lite'ning Rom? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I heard a lot of SGS2 users talking about these 2 custom ROMs like Lite'ning and Villain ROMs. Right now I'm using the Lite'ning ROM and I'm pretty happy with it, but I feel taht I need a change you know. So I was thinking to chnage my current rom to Villain ROM, but I don't know if it worth it? I need help to decide myself.
I would like to know which have the best battery life as I usea lot WIFI, internet and games. I focus most on the battery usage and a bit of style system improvements.
So, help me do decide, Lite'ning ROM or Villain ROM?

I don't even think it's worth rooting this phone right now. It's up to date, it's fast, all as stock...

With Lite'ning I really improved the battery usage.

VillianROM works for me . Very friendly thread as well .
Plus it doesn't take long to back up things and switch back if its not for you .

I want to know more about the battery usage? How much it lasts?

I actually feel that samsung made this phone pretty beastly as is and did a good job on the fw, so i prefer just stock KG6; I do from time to time flash CM7 to see how its running along with its changes. I say either CM7 or Stock samsung is amazing for this phone.

Depends what you do....
Nobody can predict your battery life, try it and see, don't like it, flash back......

Ok, ehmm ... With the current Lite'ning ROM my phone is on with WIFI and using it regularly and the battery life lasts like 1 week and some days.

Yes it is, talking from own epxerience.

I'd like to see some screenshots of your Battery Usage.
You sure you are actually using the phone

One week!? I was excited when mine lasted for two days! Put up a picture of this!

And how do I print screen it?

Home + power buttons

you guys dont seriously believe anyone is getting a weeks battery do you? lol

I tried CM7 and VillainROM 2.3/2.4.2 and stock of course. CM7 and Villain are far better, faster and the battery lasts longer

Don't think there will be much difference in battery life with the use of either one of these ROM themself.
They do use different kernels but you can flash them separately and then use setCPU and underclock / undervoltage and try to improve the battery life slightly that way ....

Also some opengl games (myth defence) don't work well with my old stock rom (KE7). Now with CM7 everything is fine and smooth

NeoPhyTe.x360
Tried both, used Villain Rom for a while. now love NeoPhyTe.x360

Best rom battery wise

So im using MIUI Galnet ICS with Siyah kernel, and i completely love almost everything about this rom, but i say almost because my battery life is not so good i get like 13 hours with pretty low use.
So my question is:
What rom has the best battery life, fairly smooth and stable (battery life at highest priority)? What would be the best kernel (battery wise) to use with this ROM?
Another question kinda not on topic but anyways;
If my phone fell a few times (sometimes on side, sometimes on screen sometimes on back)(with screen protector and back cover) can any of the internal components get damaged? cuz sometimes the phone gets minor freezes.
P.S.
I have been told CheckromRevolution 5.5 is probably one of the best roms battery wise, the thing is there is CheckRomRevolution HD 3.1.x now
So which CheckRom ROM has best battery life?
The best ROM for battery life is the one which is so bad, it makes you not want to use the phone.
Currently using Simple and Clean with Speedmod. Pretty good, but it's just my first discharge cycle so I can't judge yet, but I definitely see some improvements from Litening. CheckROM and Sensation 1.9 also seems decent. Cognition as well.

balls broken...
This will depend on so many variables, network, location, Modem, ROM, Kernel, user installs of software, wake locks, bad signal.......
Hence the only way to find is via flashing bedding testing....
As you will notice users can have same setup but very different outcomes..
Using CWM backup you can always revert to stable setup.

CheckROM or Hyperdroid Androidmeda?

Currently using CheckROM but thinking of switching to Androidmeda for the (reportedly) amazing battery life. I can't see any direct comparison between the two, so I was hoping I might be able to get some feedback from people who have used them.
I heard someone say that they weren't that impressed with Androidmeda, but didn't really explain why. CheckROM seems to be the most popular, and it definitely is smooth, but I can't get much battery life out of it, despite switching kernels.
Any advice welcome. Thanks.
I get superb battery life from CheckRom as do many others it's nothing to do with the ROM you need to establish what is draining your battery it's certainly not the ROM itself.

I don't think I'm getting a battery drain as such, I could probably get about 14 hours out of it, which isn't too bad I suppose. I'm seeing people report over 2 days with Androidmeda.
I didn't like checkrom and switched back to androidmeda.
Can't give any specific reasons though. I think it's the surgeon scripts which I like.

Both at the end of the days are good roms. Its about choice really and what you like as a user..For me i have to say Androidmeda. Saved myself money from buying an extended battery cause of the great rom/kernel combo. The min screen on time i get is 5hrs buddy and that is over the duration of say 26-40hrs. and not just that i have learned quite alot since i switched over. Plus the devs are great support there and if you need anyting they are always there to help...Regarding checkrom again i did try that and nothing but good words to say about that rom specially if you like the kitchen idea but for me smoothness and battery life is androidmeda...But again only you can decide by trying both..and not just a day or two you have to give it at least a week for each rom to decide which one you prefer
cant get the idea of surgeon untill now why it have to be with themes?
if i want to flash "Hyperdroid" then flash a surgeon then flash ICS theme by "Vertumus" will it revert all the mods that the surgeon did?

Best ROM?

What is currently, in your opinion, is the best ROM, as of late?
I'm currently using the latest of Bulletproof. Flashed it, wiped battery stats (It was at a 100). Lasted me _roughly_ a day. It was off a few hours.
But, I'm wondering what others are like.
Primary things I look for :
Faster/Better Performance overall.
Longer-lasting Battery.
Thats about it, and I know those two are pretty much contradictions, cause the better the performance, the faster your battery drains (or atleast, how I comprehend all this..)
Any suggestions are really appreciated Thank you.
And to all the developer's - Keep on doing what you're doing. I'm quite impressed with the current ROM selection. I know there are issues with S-Off and what not, but, to see as many ROMs as there are in here, that is quite nice. Great job guys!
Install Beastmod and if you don't like appearance and functionality, get a Go launcher and install it.
With the Beastmod you get about 3% battery consumption with 8 hours standby
And I'm using stock battery came with the box

If your wifi works then you have the right kernel.
Use the Easy Kernel Flasher* to flash the proper kernels.

i just followed binary's guide and it worked perfect and installed bulletproof.
the whole process took me about 15 mintues with downloading and reading!
i'll admit the instructions were looked intimidating but i think it's because it's set up to be so easy to understand.
Thanks guys!
I sacrifice GPS hotspot Bluetooth and USB mounting for beats audio on bliss sense 3.5 its not the best atm cuz it alpha 1 but bulletproof is good to.
For battery life i use batter defender with bliss. I does help with the battery It lasted me all day today in florida and I posted 30 Pics total throughout the day on facebook.

My main issue is to extend the battery life.
Do I need to install a ROM to do that
If so what ROM do you suggest, but prefer something that is fast, barebones, great battery life, I am prolly going to be running go launcher...
How long have you been with the phone? I just got it a few days ago and waiting to "break-in" the battery...
I know for my t989 it was the same deal.
There are a few kernels that really help, go to the dev section and read up on them (and roms too!).
Install a custom rom and kernal.

you might want to try fourth bar rom. it's default launcher is go launcher and says it has amazing battery life. here's the link to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421811
I just got the phone on the weekend and installed xboarders BulletProof ROM day before yesterday and the SetCPU app. My battery life has improved dramatically. Now I can get 14-16 hours of moderate use out of the phone on 4g. This gets me through my day and has made this phone the PERFECT device for me. I love it!!
On Wifi and with more careful power management the battery could definitely last up to 24 hr.

Leaving WiFi on and scanning while not connected to a network will drain your battery, but in a head-to-head wifi vs 4g connection battle WiFi comes out on top.
Flash Faux's Kernel located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359951

I had if for a few months... you are 100 percent right about the break in period, when I first got this phone I could almost watch this phone drain to nothing..
I also purchased a couple of anker batteries and a wall chargers... I noticed that if I complete charge and drain the battery the life would even get better I did this about 12 times for each battery.

Yes you need to do both. Most, if not all, ROMs come with their own kernel that must be installed so that everything in the ROM works correctly. You flash a rom through recovery and then use fastboot to install the kernel. A lot of the current ROMs come with a script that flashes the kernel for you though, so it's not a big deal. (Other devices that have S-OFF can flash the kernel directly when you flash the rom, which is one reason why we want S-OFF so much, so possibly think about donating to the cause).
Awesome... installed the 4th sense rom... I am very happy with it so far!
I also flashed kernel by faux.. but I am not sure if took, how can I tell?
Any suggestions for overclocking my cpu... or does the kernel do that?
thanks a bunch guys I will let you know how the battery life issue goes!
Donations... Yes I will send some juice to these folks!

You'll know it works by not having any problems. I believe the kernel overclocks it for you, but OCing lowers battery life, so it kind of goes against what you originally wanted.

No problems so for.. battery life looks really good so far.. I just popped in a fresh battery so I will see how it goes.
It is overclocked for sure... I ran a couple of benchmark tests. We will see how it goes... I would like to get through a day... finally..
I am even thinking of underclocking... thanks again!

I've tried almost all of the roms here (except bulletproof) in combination with stock and faux kernels. The best combos I came up with for battery was BeastMod and 4th Bar with stock kernel from BeastMod. No matter what I did with faux kernels (OC, UC, Undervolt) I could never beat the battery life of stock kernel. Good luck and keep us updated.

For the limited time I have been on kernel and Rom there is been no significant change in battery life.
The phone is faster that is for sure.. that will drain battery
faster but I a running less widgets and no live wallpaper that I normally rock.
The deal breaker for me is that the sound remains on when you close apps/games... and stays on even when the screen is off.
I will give beat mod a try with a stock kernel.

[Q] Stay stock or...

Hi all,
I have my Galaxy S3 now for a few days and i like it a lot.
My previous phone was a HTC Sensation XE and the last few months i had CM10 running on it.
Since my galaxy S3 should be way faster than my Sensation im not sure if i already should switch to a custom rom.
I did root it already but the rom and kernel im using are still stock.
I have almost no problems with my galaxy S3 the way it is in stock, only things i can complain about are the following:
1. battery life doesnt seem that great, i only last a day to a day and a half on imo very mediocre usage. My old sensation could easily last 2 days and im not doing anything special
2. some apps or functions dont open as fast as im used to. eg when i open my contacts or phone when i want to call i experience a lag of 1 sec. I never had this on my HTC
To improve battery life and for a smoother experience do you guys reccomend going custom rom ? only switch kernel ? or ....
I dont really wanna check forums every 1-2 days to see if bugs are fixed im custom roms, i just want my phone to work.
I really am not a heavy phone user, i just want my battery to last as long as it can and if i do use my phone for other stuff i want it to be fast.
Any imput is appreciated.
Cheers !

Thanks for the reply but the app you suggested doesnt have many positive feedback.
I've researched a bit into wakelocks and it seems that the stock FM of the S3 has quite a lot of "stuff" that runs in the background so a custom rom might be a better idea for me.
All i use the phone for is calling, texting, whatsapp, exchange mail and some games.
All the social network apps, weather updates and such i dont really care about.
Only thing is i don't wanna lose the samsung keyboard (and trained dictionary) functionality
I've been looking through the available roms and i cant decide between Omega V31 / ARHD 14 based on JB 4.1.1 or something stripped to the bone like Omega AOKP 4.1.2 or some other.
Will do some more research.

Since im still on stock kernell and ROM i was thinking the possible.
Is it possible to just install a dual boot kernell (like SiyahKernel S3-v1.7rc1) and have the original samsung rom still working as my 1st rom and via the kernell try different custom roms?
Cheers
Well thats a question i asked myself. If anyone can answer it, i'd appreciate it.
