[Q] Motorola Atrix Re-lock Bootloader - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I may have to return my ATRIX due to Let'sTalk horrible customer service, but I was wondering if there is anyway to re-lock the Bootloader, or to hide the fact that it says, Unlocked. Thank you in advanced
Also, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, as this is urgent to me and I have yet to see any otherpost relating this topic.

There is another topic like this.
No you can't re-lock and no you can't "hide" the unlock wording. Sorry.
Sent from my AWESOME Atrix

Assume you installed 2.3 using CWM, if that is the case, you can flash the stock 1.8.3. Because the bootloader is not compatible with the unlocked phones, it won't show the "unlocked" text when you turn on the phone. I have tried it when I was trying to get rid if the unlocked text.
The down side is, you won't be able to flash custom ROM until you flash a compatible bootloader.

But downgrading will hard brick the phone.be very very carefully.

Reflash To Stock
Unfortunately, there is no way to relock a bootloader. Hence all of the warnings when you committed
but, if you use 4.5.91 the software at the address below should reinstall the newest stock software...
direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSelect.asp?country=USA&language=ENS
be careful because Im not sure how motorola update will react to an unlocked bootloader. Ask around...do so at your own risk.
If you want to try a harder, albeit, safer method, and you are sure that you do not have a phone running 4.1.5.91, you can restore your phone to a factory SBF with this process:
briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-system-boot-file-sbf-leaked
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO RESTORE A 4.5.91 system to stock with RSD LITE.
To go to any of the blue webaddresses above, copy-paste them into your browser. Sorry, but I am not allowed to post links yet.

I wonder why nobody has created a CWM downgrade for US Atrixes. NFHimself made one for Bell or international users to go to 2.2.2 Bell and it works really well. Pretty much every partition is replaced. Great for masking that your boot loader is unlocked. Someone should probably do that for ATT to make downgrading less risky than flashing an sbf again...

The downgrading and hard brick problem stems from using the OTA update, so you won't hard brick if for example you upgraded with KP's 4.5.91.

You also should be able to flash the 4.5.91 SBF. You just can't downgrade. There are other threads about this.

The reason the fruitcakes were created and deemed safe by the devs were because it didn't touch the BL, which people believe to be the culprit behind the hard bricks. NFhimself was brave enough to testing flashing the BL via cwm in his gobstopper on international phones, but I don't think any other devs are willing to risk hard bricking their phones by testing that theory on US phones.
There also isn't enough "reward" for doing so because if people want to downgrade they can use a fruitcake. The only gain is to get rid of the "unlock" text. But if you were really that concerned about it despite reading all the warnings of this will void you warranty, you shouldn't have unlocked in the first place.

Hi,
One of the reasons I did up a default CWM of 2.2.2 is to have a means of doing a reset after trying all ATT/ORANGE/TELSTRA/MOVIESTAR/etc firmwares out there which may have side effects or accumulated side effects. Hence the inclusion of the stock bootloader and radio and a write of the extra partitions to clean up whatever mix and match leftovers are in there from the various carriers. The other big one is just to be able to get a Bell OTA applied when it comes out, it will probably be similar to the leak, but best to be safe.
This is more of a Bell/Intl issue as ATT folks tend to run just ATT firmware or flash just boot and system via CWM/fastboot and don't have the same issues as flashing a sbf file.
Both the stock 2.2.2 and leaked ap20 OTA bootloaders from Bell are safe to flash after IHOP, this is not the case with ATT bootloaders and may be the case for any included in a sbf file. Finding out the hard way is not an option.
Cheers!

hard brick the phone and return it

[Q] 4.5.91 Clarification

I updated with the official OTA to 2.3 and I've been reading a ton about the hardbrick mess that has surfaced along with the 2.3 update. Basically, I'm wondering what are my options as far as rooting, unlocking, and roms. Or am I SOL for the time being?
rooting, unlocking and roms are available for you. I OTA'd as well..couple days ago I unlocked my Atrix. Only thing you CAN'T do ..now that you've OTA'd.. is you CANNOT downgrade with RSD. That will cause a hardbrick.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Okay, that's as far as my understanding of the matter went haha.
It may seem like a noob question, but what is the need to downgrade?
Hardbricks are from downgrading to a previous firmware.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Yes, I'm aware of that. I want to know why I would need to downgrade?

sometimes things go wrong when modding your phone. downgrading will restore your phone back to a factory state.
Okay, that's what I was thinking. So couldn't we just create a back up of our 2.3 OTA and revert back to that if something went wrong?
from what i understand you can sbf 4.5.91
"You can sbf 4.5.91 because it has the same identical bl bp pass"
quoted from here..right under the picture.

That's the correct way of doing things without hardbricking, yes.
Unlock the BL, install CWM and create a backup of you system before modding.
Whatever you do DO NOT SBF back to earlier build.
Wow! This is the best answer I've been looking for for two days! There should be a lot of deleting and simplifying on this forum. People are going to mess up their phones. Just saying.

For AT&T users, we had some good hacks that recommended that you went down to original stock Froyo.
Something like that is not an option anymore...
Makes sense, but I do prefer GB over Froyo in so many ways so its worth it for me, and hopefully new hacks and what not will surface in time. I'm patient lol.
well, some people also like to downgrade cause they like Froyo (huh?! who?!) and some people want back fingerprint (but im a patient one, so I won't ditch my gingerbread for something so silly =P). Like everyone said, if you DO need to SBF, just SBF back to 4.5.91. If you have an unlocked bootloader and flashed Tenfar's CWM, however, just eat your Fruitcakes and you'll be good to go. Those are totally safe (as far as I know =D Mmmmmmmm)
Happy upgrading! =]

Can you remove the unlock text on boot

Is there a way to remove the text that says unlocked when you boot.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
The Pudding thread talks about if 1.8.3 is flashed after pudding then the "reboot" text will no longer appear. However, be very careful with this because many have bricked their phone by flashing 1.8.3 over a GB build. See the sticky threads in the developer forum.

if you have never updated to GB OTA then use the link that i gave you...and flash 1.2.6..
I have flashed 1.2.6 then rooted, unlocked bootloader, flashed CWM..flashed three different GB ROMs...didn't like it..then I flashed 1.2.6 again using RSD..as long as you have never upgraded to GB via OTA..i think you should be fine...
any solution for those that are running GB OTA?
You can probably flash the 4.5.91 SBF. My understanding is that you just can still flash GB just not Froyo. Hunt around. I think there are other threads about this.

I'v searched around quite a bit, but still couldnt find the answer. I did originaly do the GB OTA. I am currently unlocked running CM7 Beta. My stupid LED flash burnt out again (SECOND FREAKING PHONE) so now i need to take it back within my 30 day's.I would just fix it my self but their are no parts out their for the flash. Im not worried about them going throught the phone logs to see if im unlocked. I just need to hide the text long enough to get past their cursory inspection. From what i have read, it is safe to to do 4.5.91 SBF flash just cannot go lower than that. Just want to make 100% sure before i go along this path.

Flashing the 4.5.91 SBF is as safe as anything (with normal flashing caveats) and will remove the "unlocked" text from the BL. However, there is a register that can be queried that will show that the bootloader has been unlocked.
If you flash the 1.8.3 SBF you will brick yerself.
You can't "relock" the bootloader.

Did you get rid of "unlocked" text?
How did you get rid of the 'unlocked' text?, where did you find the official 4.5.91 sbf ?
I want to get rid of mine because I am retentive (is all)!
Do you think we can flash Tenfar/ROMRacer recovery after we are rid of that bane of "unlocked" enunciation?
Do you think we can install the CM7 ?

you can flash a GINGERBREAD SBF file with RSD lite, but it will revert you back to complete stock.
you will lose the ability to install a custom recovery, and lose the ability to install custom ROMs.

USC 2.3.5

Just curious.
Has anyone come across a hack for the US Cellular 2.3.5 sbf to allow a flash back to the Sprint sbf?
This would be fantabulous since it was just announced that the Photon will be getting the ICS update in a few months. I'd like to get mine back to stock before that update comes out.
Thanks!

If you are rooted and unlocked, you might see a downloadable flashable version of the official rom in here shortly after it comes out.

That'st the problem. I can't be unlocked with the Electrify 2.3.5 sbf. It's impossible. I have successfully rooted it but can't install a ROM from recovery. Keeps giving an error. Probably because the bootloader is locked and can't be unlocked.
This is exactly the reason why when I had the 2.3.5 Electrify SBF that I didnt make it a public post.
To this day I still haven't posted it.
People PM'd me for it so they could use it, hack it, whatever, and I warned them that it would lock the phone down.. Of course once I let it out, other people spread it....
Lesson learned I guess.

I only flashed it in desperation after I had already jacked my bootloader. Before I flashed this sbf, I tried fastboot flashing every img file out there. None worked then I tried flashing sbf file after file and this is the only one that took without erroring out. I didn't load it on purpose to hack or modify it.
I just want my bootloader unlocked so that I can have at least a fighting chance to get one of Sprint's sbf's flashed.
check your pm's
I have the same issue!! I need to get my phone back to Sprint as well!!! I have the USC 2.3.5
I need the stock uscc 2.3.5 sbf because i am rooted and did the ota and now its partially rooted somehow and im having an issue with my phone speaker and need to send it in under warranty. If anyone could please help id owe you my life. Thanks in advance.
Honestly we should start a bounty for this. I would certainly pay to have this thing unlocked so that I can get back to my regularly scheduled programming.

Photon ROMs on Electrify?

Unlocking a stock USCC Electrify tonight using Pudding.
Plan on installing CWM or TWRP (after doing more research or heeding advice).
Not many ROMs say Electrify compatibility is included. Is anyone having any luck flashing these to their Electrify? Is there a universal conversion zip a la the ones used in the D2/DX days?

well 2.3.4 is fully unlockable. 2.3.5 is only unlockable if you have a device that was shipped with 2.3.5. if it was updated or flashed to it you will not be able to unlock it. it's basically permanently locked. no way around it.
good luck!

IIRC, it will error out, harming nothing, if it can't be unlocked. That's what it says in the instructions I received, though.
My Electrify was shipped with 2.3.5, and I'm running Jelly Bean now. I've flashed more ROMs than I can count in the last week alone.
As for the boot loaders (recoveries), CWM-Recovery that comes with the Electrify.zip unlock pack is the same as Joker's v3, and is your standard text-based, no-touch recovery. You navigate with volume and Power is your Enter. TWRP is all-touch, nice as hell. Both should work for you. TWRP is just nicer looking.

If so, you'll still get notified about the OTA. The OTA should fail to run, but on my last device some people had the KitKat update run even though they had a custom recovery, and it screwed up all sorts of things. So don't accept the OTA if you get it.
To make sure you don't get the OTA, see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/psa-stop-taking-ota-updates-update-t2909412

As long as the phones system is totally original with no mods or deleted files you should get ota...depends on how it was unlocked.

Im sure if its unlocked it can still get ota by flashtool. If system is changed. But as far as root or bump. Certainly can. It can be bumped stumped etc. And flashtool back for ota. Depending how it was unlocked. Meaning if it was rooted to unlock then will have to flashtool back im almost sure. Again if your wanting to make sure it stays unlocked usually once unlocked it will stay. I guess it will depend how. And if oem unlocked then im sure re locking is not much of an option. However you should be fine from many of these worries. Hope not to confuse you. Im very tired. Lol. Trying to cover all bases. There are many ways to unlock many devices on many carriers so its really hard to say. But there are mostly generalized options one would believe.

Please suggest me an easy way to ROOT this device?
Which is the most customizied Rom available on this Sprint Thread, I am sure I should not be flashing any other Carrier Roms or International Version of ROM which may Brick the device.
