some apps wont install (tablet chrashed) - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running brilliant corners. It crashed a few days ago and after reboot it stayed at 3 birds so I reinstalled BC and same so I did factory reset. When I went to titanium to restore some failed to restore so I tried to re-download from market and I keep getting an error from gtablet saying "couldnt install on usbdisk or sd". I don't have anything plugged in USB. Help?????

solution found
Found out why this happens. When you get close to filling up space on your tablet a temporary file is made that gives this error and even after freeing up space the file stays there that wont allow you to install some apps.
The solution? Go and delete smdl2tmp1.asec yourself. it is located at:
/sdcard/.android_secure -this is an invisible folder on your SD card.
Connect it to your PC and find the file. There are a bunch of hidden files in that folder that can't be seen using any file explorer on your tablet.
That worked for me and no problems anymore.

Very good thank you I will be checking this

[Q] application not installed/ unknown error -18

I've been lurking these forums since i discovered android, and have never had the need for asking help until now. Alas, my plight is one i've yet to find a solution for on the forums.
Alright, so here's my issue:
ViewSonic G-Tablet w/VegaN
issue with 3 games:
- Angry Birds
- Angry Birds Seasons
- Castle Warriors
Originally the games were installed perfectly, and without any issues, i'd play them over and over.
My g-tablet (slightly off topic) cannot be detected by my computer, no matter what i try doing, so i am constantly removing my MicroSD to put my music and such on it to get it to work on the gtab.
I accidentally left my microSD in my computer the other night and when i saw the icons on my (g-tab's) desktop, i was surprised to see that they had no image, such as corrupted files tend to do.
I read up here on xda but have tried the following things and none of them have helped.
- removed the apps from the "on SD card" spot in the "manage applications" part of the settings
- did a factory reset
- tried getting APK versions, and installing them with Astro
- tried installing them from the market with SD in/out of the slot
- tried installing them using Applanet
- tried installing them using appbrain
i always get the same "application not installed" error.
EDIT: i have also gotten the error Unknown Error -18 once as well!
please help me out! Thanks very much!
Try this :
while connected to your pc browse to .android_secure and delete the file 'smdl2tmp1.asec'
(You will not see this in file explorer only from your pc)
That should work, if not let me know I will try something else
If that doesn't work this will:
Go to menu>settings>sd&storage>unmount sd card>then install while unmounted then go ahead and remount after install.
The first of the two is a permanent fix the latter is a work around
thank you very much! that fixed it!
i'll give you double thanks if you can actually aid me in figuring out as well why my battery never drops below 100% while i'm using VegaN?
lol. glad it worked..... for the battery just leave it on until it dies then charge it until its green and then an additional 30 min and it should be good.

[Q] NT wont run tgps launcher or nookunrooter.apk

i rooted my nook a wile back and recently the B&N store stopped working so i was trying to fix it and removed the account then it did a factory reset (i think) i had to to OBE. so now i tried to install tgps.apk and then nookunrooter.apk but it wouldn't. I get an error that says Parse error: There is a problem parsing the package???
any ideas?? i tried to do the 8 boots but its only goes to three before prompting the restore.
should i update in try and revert to 1.40 or try and root again from sdcard? then unroot again?
i feel so needy...
1 option: download acclaim_update.zip by AdamOutler to restore 1.4.0 completely, after thaat if N button does not work then do the Quick access to factory reset (the how to is stickied here in general section) Root again using your computer. As you have rooted before i guess you already have drivers and adb installed and working OR try this best sdcard method to root, its easy (tested by me).
~ Veronica
actually, the root sd cards might work here. If you are booting fine and stuff is just wonky like the half rooted state, you can use the sd card to force root on. Then you can enjoy or you can use the unrooter app to properly unroot and restore back to stock (after rooting again)
I had the same "Parse Error" issue. Drove me crazy. Here's what I did to fix it.
1. Remove SD Card. If necessary, copy the packages to the internal memory ("Media" mount).
2. Turn Nook off.
3. Turn Nook on.
4. Try to re-install package using the "Package Installer" option. Should work.
In my experience, if I try to run the Packages using "App installer" first, I always get a "Parse error" when I try to do it with "Package installer". Then I have to remove the SDCard, turn off the Nook, etc....
But that is not normal

Thanks, i got the nookunrooter.apk to work by installing the extra settings apk (not sure of the actual name) then messing with the settings forgot what i actual did :/
im happily rooted again but i really need to start doing a back up.

[Q] Per HTC I have unique unknown issue - help?

When I install apps on my device and move them to phone storage (/mnt/sdcard/ i believe as apps can no longer be moved to the external sd), if I restart the device any application that has been moved is gone. The icon is still there but when I select it I get a message that says "application is not installed." Verizon & HTC both told me it was an unknown issue - but it's now happened to me on 2 consecutive devices, both of which I've done a factory data reset on, and the second time I also wiped my external sd card.
Any ideas? I'd love to know if this is something I'm doing with my settings, or if my google profile is corrupt, or if this has happened to anyone other than me. Would rooting help? That's the next step anyway just to see (or S-OFF?) Thanks in advance for any responses.

i tried deleting the external card via the phone's data reset mechanism, but haven't tried a different card yet - I didn't think that could be the issue because the apps are moved to "phone storage" not the external sd, but i will try that next.
how do i know if it's FAT32? i saw this thread for formatting and will do when i get home, but is there a way to check using the phone?

idk how to check via phone, might have an app for it.
but when you move app to sd it adds some data to .android folder that is stored on the external SD card.
try pulling everything off the card and put it on the pc, format via windows pc, then put the stuff back and try it out. if you can get a different card and try that.
I am rooted and am running CyanogenMod (0717) and my apps sometimes just disappear. I have noticed with one app in particular. My Play Music app seems to just disappear off the face of the earth (metaphorically speaking). I thought to myself, "Hmm, maybe I just uninstalled it by accident.". Because I have done some pretty crazy things while I was asleep or just plain old being me. I went to the Play Store and found it on there and I noticed that the Play Store said it wasn't installed. I went and tried to install it. I got an error code (-24). I went and researched it and it actually never disappeared. (Well kind of didn't) I went into /data/data/ and found it sitting right there. The folder to the application was still there, but it appears that the OS lost track of it. It almost seems as if it forgot it was there. (But of course that is almost impossible for a machine that is coded to do something cannot possibly forget like that. The error code I received was saying that the app folder existed and couldn't be overwritten. Sorry if I invaded in this thread, but it is just similar experience. Did you try and reinstall the missing apps and see what happened? Did you get an error code like I did? And I am assuming you are on 4.0.4 (stock) OS, yes?

Ok so we're going to go deep and nasty with this here. So far you've ruled out rom based issues since you've moved from the stock RUU to CM10.1nightly(I suggest running mdmowers builds honestly). I too had a weird issue with getting apps to move from "internal" to "phone" storage(both are internel to the phone, just different partiitons). The next few things are based on my dealings with embeded linux and flash hardware.
First are you using the SDcard partition swap patch supplied by jose51197? If so, this could be a wacky thing where the linkings are going bad because of a failing SDcard and that could be your problem.
Secondly, are you runnign out of space in the /mnt/secure/asec and /data/ partition and your phone is doing wacky things because of this? Check by plugging your phone into a computer with ADB installed on it and do "./adb shell df /data" and "./adb shell df /mnt/secure/asec". If they report very little space, usually apps start failing silently because they've got no space to write their added data.
If neither of these things are the case, then its the phones internal flash memory that is failing. This does happen, usually though only because of excessive writting and deleteing things(app churn, text messages with auto delete on, testing multiple roms) from the internal memory, and can only be dealt with by getting a new phone.
Best of luck.

Which app are you trying to move first off? Have you moved them to SD successfully on other devices, if you have access to them?

No they aren't installed on the SD card and I haven't seen it happen for a couple days. But in response to jiggz88, by apps failing silently, do you mean they open and they close suddenly without notice? Or that they just don't exist. I was using the unofficial mdmower builds when CyanogenMod was going through some rough times and apps such as Play Music would close suddenly without notice. Especially when you entered My Library or Radio on it. Is that what you were referring to? Or just not showing up at all in the installed apps (or whatever).

that's definitely different from my issue. Play Music has never been one of the apps that disappears because I can't move it to phone storage partition at all. also not that error code, it only tells me "application is not installed" nothing else. by checking available memory it doesn't appear that the apps actually get uninstalled as no more space is available after they are magically uninstalled, it's just that the system no longer recognizes that they're there. yes stock 4.0.4 OS. when i reinstall the "missing" apps they reinstall and work just fine until the device reboots (which has happened 3x in the last 24 hrs) and then they are "gone" again. hoping to try reformatting ext sd card tonight or tomorrow if i can finish enough work first; if that doesn't work will root.

Alright sorry for bloating your thread. Hope you get your problem fixed as I haven't ever experienced this issue.

Rooted my phone and moved some apps and now I can't install anything. Help?

Hey guys, I'm using the LG Optimus F6 (or D500). I rooted it today and started playing around, and now when I try installing any apk file I get an error saying "[app name] could not be installed. Free up some space and try again", however I have more than enough space on both internal and SD. I have no idea what's going on, and if anyone knows about this I'd thank you forever.
I'm going to list everything I did after rooting just in case it means anything:
Moved a few apps to SD and uninstalled bloatware
Tried to move chrome browser to sd by converting it to user app, and then it disappeared and I can't download it to the market due to "insufficient space"
Changed the boot animation in ROM Toolbox (which didn't work)
I'm not sure what caused it, but the issue appeared after I messed around with chrome with seems like a terrible idea cause I didn't really know very well what I was doing. Has anyone had this issue or know how to fix it? Thank you so much!
What do you mean disappeared? The file must still be there, use es file explorer and search for it.
Otherwise you'll need to flash the kdz for your phone.

Accidentally Deleted Bluetooth Share?

The problem:
I rooted my Galaxy Ace and installed an app called Root Cleaner. Though it did a good job on cleaning up the internal memory, the app also had an option to uninstall system and non-system apps. It so happened that I accidentally tapped on Bluetooth Share and it got uninstalled without asking any confirmation. Now, whenever I try to send a file via Bluetooth, it simply gets queued and refuses to be sent.
//pics go here, unable to submit them due to 10 post limitation...
So I realized I messed up. I had to find a way to re-install Bluetooth Share.
What I tried to do:
I rooted my friend's Galaxy Ace (both of them are 2.3.6), compared the programs in /system/app and sure enough BluetoothPbap.apk was missing from my list. So I copied the .apk onto my sd card, then copied it to the /system/app directory. Total Commander asked me for rw permissions, I just pressed ok and the file got copied. I tried installing the .apk, but I simply got "Application not installed". I looked around for ways of re-installing system apps, but one page suggested simply leaving the .apk in the /app folder and re-staring the phone. After doing so Bluetooth Share was back on the system app list, yet it is still unable to send any files.
Sooo... Help? What I suspect right now is that the .apk file I got might be in some way incompatible with my device, though I got it from and Ace with the same version of Android, could this really be the case? Any advice is welcome.
Oh, and another interesting thing. After doing everything mentioned above, I tried deliberately uninstalling Bluetooth Share and reinstalling it. The BluetoothPbap.apk disappears from /system/app, but when I paste it in and try to install it, It asks if I want to replace the application. In other words, It's asking me if I want to replace something that isn't installed, so I have no idea how to explain this.
