Did it work before you flashed angelrom?

i didnt try it before my friend....today i bought the converter from micro usb to usb......so...is there any service that maybe did not is enable in the custom rom....and cant run the usb host....

It's unlikely that it's the ROM, as this is a feature that many people use.
It may be that what you are trying to use simply doesn't work. Do you have a USB mouse you could try? Also, is the device that you are connecting powered, or does it expect power from the USB connection?

well...i connect 3 devices... a keyboard...a mouse...and a usb strage stick....
and no led...power on...of the devices

In that case, I suggest you ask on the thread where you got the ROM. Have you already searched that thread to see if anyone else has the same problem?

i did a quick search...but i didnt find anything important...well ok my friend thx....

don't bother checking with more devices or posting in the rom thread, you just bought the wrong cable for otg purposes.
a simple converter from micro usb to usb won't do, the sgs2 discovers connected devices by the resistor between pin 4 and 5 of the micro usb plug inserted, and afaik, a usb otg cable needs a 200k resistor (if you decide to weld one in yourself, double check the number against other threads, i am not sure about that). simple converters, adapters and even some "usb otg" marked cables don't have a resistor in there.
and if the correct resistor is present in the plug, the device should discover the cable when plugged in, and then you can connect any device afterwards and get another notification. (as is seen in the usb otg video in the accessories section.)
i hope you did not pay too much on that cable, or have the possibility to return it for a refund or exchange, because yours has little to no known uses.

Thanks Chef, I didn't know that. That's the "something new" that I learnt today

thx my friend..i give 4 euro for this ****...but its ok....

i m gonna buy....this one of nokia cable....its ok i thing right... ??? http://europe.nokia.com/find-produc...cables/nokia-adapter-cable-for-usb-otg-ca-157

im looking for a 22-pin to female usb conn 4 a cheap destinator gps. anyone know if its posible to use above cable ??
I was under the impression that in order to connect a PDA to a USB device the PDA must have USB Host capabilities. I was not aware that the BA has this, although this advert seems to imply that it does. If someone has already done this then please let us know the outcome. I think I speak for many when I say inquiring minds want to know.

[Q] usb host on Flyer?

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if there should be any technical reason why the Flyer cant run on Honeycombe 3.1 and implement the usb host update so I can download jpegs from my dslr using usb.
Many thanks.
It might be worth trying it without honeycomb, I believe that Qualcomm chips have supported USB host since Eclair, perhaps HTC enabled it already?
Has anyone tried it yet?
I'd like to read some gps data from a SD card.
Thanks guys but needed a tablet asap which would also allow me to transfer files from my dslr via usb. Its been confirmed on other forums that the 3.1 update from Motorola will enable this so went with the Zoom
If you just need it for the DSLR have you considered an EyeFI card? For less than $100 you can get a direct connection from the camera to the tablet (or phone).

I know, its a great solution but my D700 only uses CF cards which aren't currently supported.

Yeah I have a D70 that's not supported either. I haven't gone and gotten one for my D60 yet although I've considered it a few times.
USB-host on Flyer
hi guys!
any news on this topic?
as there is already tmp root achieved and permanent root on s-off flyers, has anybody already tried to implement usb host functionality now?
I believe to have heard, that Honeycomb should support USB-host functionality automatically... Do we need to wait for 3.2, or could we get it earlier?
I'd really appreciate this (as I am also owning a DSLR from Canon), and would be willing to donate.
greets, alf.
Sure that the Flyer has the necessary chipset to work as a USB host?
Sent from HTC Flyer using Tapatalk
I'm actually working on a direct DSLR app using USB host, a preview of which should hopefully be released by the end of the week (alpha, not beta).
I'm mentioning this because it works on the Galaxy S2 with 2.3.4. I've not been able to get it to work on the Galaxy S1 with 2.3.4, but it just goes to show, it may not be 100% necessary to be running HC 3.1 to support it (as evidenced by the SGS2).
What kind of connection cable does the HTC Flyer have ? Micro USB ? If so, I'd advise to give the test app a spin when I release it if you happen to have a USB host cable.
Either way, the chips themselves have supported it for years and years, that's not the issue. Kernel and framework support and such is the problem.

yes, the flyer got a micro usb port.
I also happen to have the correct usb host cable (micro usb to usb-female...), so as soon as your software is out, I would give it a try.
please keep us informed, thx!

Test with a card reader or ext hd (powered) plugged to your cable and see if you get a new drive through a file explorer... The kernel will definitely need to support this functionality, or the fstab may need to be modified.

Indeed if you have a micro usb cable already, connect a usb stick, see if anything happens... that should tell you straight up.
of course I already tried different devices (USB-stick, hard drive, camera directly...), but there was absolutely no reaction ...
simply plugging it in doesn't work.
greets
Then it's probably lacking kernel and/or framework support.
is there a way to fix this with root?
any news on this matter?

Hi Chainfire,
have you looked into the Archos Gen8 range of tablets for any kernel info?
They utilise Froyo and have had USB host since day one. Maybe you could patch something from there?
H.
And what about porting the results for the SGT described here? http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...e-versatile-thanks-to-usb-host-functionality/
I can't wait. A Flyer with notes, the pen and USB host would be an fantastic tool for photography AND for any kind of fieldwork.
If you can take a photo with a proper camera and then check it on a flyer awesome display and use the pen... just imagine!
Sometimes I'm afraid that HTC did not bet enough hard for a fantastic device!

Amaze as USB plug-in?

So I just saw a tweet about how on a SGS2 you can use a Samsung cord and are thus able to plug in USB devices. I had no idea you could do that, I knew with the Galaxy Nexus you could, but not the SGS2.
Is there any similar thing for the Amaze that anyone had heard of?

Are you talking about the USB micro/mini plug turning into a USB host port instead of a client port?
there have been hack up's for this since the N1 that even let you run a USB video card off of it (with a power adapter hacked into the USB line tho)... like this http://sven.killig.de/android/N1/2.2/usb_host/

Yea, that's what I'm talking about, but looking around online about the SGS2 all you need is that OTG cable and it works. This solution looks fairly intense, with changing the kernel and editing scripts... Thanks anyways, at least we know it's possible.
@faux said the USB OTG code is missing in the HTC kernel. so, either htc or someone write some code in the kernel or it won't happen.
Not sure if the Telus kernel is different but using the stock .config file, it seems OTG is enabled.
OTG support for Qualcomm on-chip USB controller (USB_MSM_OTG_72K) is what is enabled.

[Q] Usb host mode cable. What is it for?

I recently purchased the note from att and my wife bought me a few accessories from amazon. One of the accessories that came in the bundle was a usb host mode cable. I've googled for answers but couldn't find anything with details for what its for. Im not new to android and rooting, as Ive owned a few devices over the years and last one being the galaxy s2 on sprint. If anyone can explain to me whats the use for the host cable it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.
BTW I love the galaxy note!!! I sold my iPhone 4S to get it and Im happy I made the switch!!
It's for use with USB drives and other USB devices that require USB host to use.

For what purposes?
You can plug in a thumb drive to the cable and it will mount on your phone. You can also use usb keyboards/mice if you are so inclined.
I carry a cable so if anyone wants to pass me a large file I just plug in my device.

I use it mostly to run this: DSLR Controller.
It's also nice to be able to connect USB thumb drives to move files back and forth.
when I plug in my usb cable I don't get access to my sd card. Am I doing something wrong
Had a brain fart...

I think the cable you want is called an OTG cable, not just a micro USB to female USB.

What about Ethernet? There are USB-to-Ethernet converters and the Linux kernel likely supports them, I am rooted so I can run netcfg usb0 dhcp for sure. Is there a reason why this wouldn't work...?

You can use it for UOTG, USB on the GO. You can plug the micro usb to the phone and plug a USB flash drive. Go into a file explorer and look for a folder called usbStorage. You will be able to access the flash drive through that folder.
FYI, make sure that USB debugging is disabled other you will not see anything in the folder.
This is perfect for transferring files from USB or other media into the phone. I use it with my Canon S100 and transfer pics directly from the media card.

[Q] USB mouse?

Anyone got a USB mouse to work on their G9?
edit: from the 3g port, like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7H-EupM9g4
I dont want it bad enough to buy an adapter '
edit 2: someone said probably need a usb hub to translate usb 1.1/2.0
I can't get it to work through the back USB port either. Archos themselves say you need a micro USB to USB host cable, I ordered one today so I can test later.
Don't worry. Spend a dollar and buy OTG USB adpter. And your device will looks sexy not inside but and outside.

The 3G USB host port needs definitely a hub to handle USB1.1 devices.
The OTG USB port is able to work with either with USB1.1 and USB2.0, but is restricted to work with HID and mass storage devices, due to software restriction.
AFAIK there's no general device support on the OTG port.
Correct me if i'm wrong...

scholbert
