Hello all, I have the xv6800, dcd rom 3.3.4 and activesync and internet sharing setup on Windows just fine. However, I have recently gotten a MAC, and I have not been able to get the internet sharing to work via BT or USB. I can understand BT cause I was never able to get it set up on windows either. I don't mind the USB connection, it's alwasy been more stable and a snap to set up with the ROM. However I can't get it working on the MAC. Is there a driver or app that needs to be installed on the mac side? The only think I remember doing on the WIN side is installing the modem driver.
On Mac, I have installed Missing Sync installed and I have been able to attach and sync my winmo phone without issue, so I know I have connection. but I cannot get the internet sharing to work. I checked out the verizon site and they state that they do not make a modem driver for the mac os.
I should also mention that I have winXP set up on the mac thru VMware, but I have been unsuccessful getting this to work the way my original windows laptop is setup. I dont want to set it up that way anyway if I can avoid it.
I am curious if anyone has this working via USB?? I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere. I couldn't find anything related and certainly not specific to this ROM.
I did find this, http://www.keithtastic.com/post/3997...-to-sprint-htc, but it states to buy an app called USB Modem program from www.mobile-stream.com. but wouldnt the ISC app on the dcd rom provid the same functionality?

then just use internet sharing form the phone as normal?
no offense but that didnt help at all. I can connect my phone via BT themac sees it, but all I can do is browse device. I need to set up a connection with my phone to the mac and get online via my phone. I dont careif its bluetooth or not. I have the new macbook btw, if it matters
goon55: Like you, I always used a VM workaround to tether back when I had a Mac. I haven't tried this, but I've heard Syncmate allows Internet Sharing on Mac systems. Good luck!
I have no issues connecting my macbook for my 6800.
After you set it up like the other poster told you to, you should have a phone icon next to the bluetooth icon at the top right of the screen. click the phone icon then "connect bluetooth".

also when setting up the BT relationship, make sure you select the network services (i believe, there are one or two services you can check)...on the phone make sure you start BT and internet sharing (with BT selected) and when you go to the BT menu on the mac, your phone name should be under "devices", expand your phone name and select connect to network.
just trying to clarify a bit.
i had it
i had bt working for a bit and then was disconnected abruptly.
after deleting the profiles of the pairings on both the titan and the mac, it still wont share the connection although the phone will be connected in bt system prefrence pane, (where you select devices).
when it worked, i would select the phone in the device select, and underneath clicking on the gear to a menu option to 'connect to network'
it worked that wayfor 3 mins.
also, when i configure the device, if i set the phone to internet share while the mac is discovering the services, i get two options to select instead of just one:
access the internet
use device as network port.

best software you can use is http://www.wmwifirouter.com/ it works over BT or wifi and uses your phone's regular data access address which means you don't get tethering charges. NOTE I use the free version, and I have tried the tiral and although it does work, my mogul does not seem to like it and has little quirks after I install it (wifi turns on when I reset even if the switch is off, I don't why but its there).
Hi everyone, I've been trying to use my Windows Mobile phone as a modem for the Macbook, but so far I only see people being able to connect via BT. Problem with that for me is that BT drains both my laptop and phone battery quicker, so I'm trying to find a solution to connect via USB instead. Has anyone been able to surf on their Mac using their Windows Mobile phone as a modem via USB cable?
What you want is Mobile Stream USB Modem for Windows. Windows here being Windows Mobile, it works with my Mac.
Once you set it up, your phone is seen as a USB Modem and you dial from the Mac to this port. There is a free trial, take time to test it, read the forums, I had some initial issues to get it work right, but now it is good, I ended up purchasing it.
Tried BT sharing too, but too instable and drops. Tried the WiFi sharing, but eats battery...
Only downside: as you dial the data modem, it will fail if it is already in use (background email checking on your phone...). I have to disconnect the data connection on the phone to be able to dial from the Mac, otherwise it reports Port Busy.

I had the same problem, and tried everything recommended in the thread - no dice. I ended up just installing WMWifiRouter and that works like a champ.

I've been looking for a solution as well, and have yet to find one for USB Internet Sharing on a Mac. I currently just use Bluetooth with an external charger on the phone and laptop since it'll eat the battery of both quickly.
Im over in Afghanistan right now (such fun) and my wife is going to be purchasing me a tablet to use (mainly e-reader, messing around with it etc and send it over here to me. Ive pretty much settled on the Tab at this point. There is no WiFi, however I've got internet on a computer through a LAN. However, Ive been trying to do some research and find out how I can install apps and what not onto it without being on WiFi, and not looking good so far. Know Im going to need to root it and what not (Ive had a ton of droid phones, so familiar with that). Is the only way I'll be able to update/download stuff on here is by loading the APK file onto the Tablet itself via USB? Or is there a tether possibility, having the USB hooked up to the Tab from the computer with internet, and I can use the Tab as if it were on the internet at that time as well. Anyone who could offer some advice on this, I'd appreciate.
Lastly, If I use it as my ereader as well (using the Kindle app), will I not be able to load books on it due to the fact that its not on a wireless network (in other words, can the books be downloaded and loaded onto the tab via syncing after Ive got the Kindle app on?)
Any thoughts/ideas with any of this or workarounds would greatly be appreciated!
It comes with a usb cable, plug it into the computer and it acts like an external drive. Copy files from computer over to tab, and you should be able to open and install them with the tab. I've transferred a few APK files from my PC to my tab and used File Expert to open and install them. I am not rooted, by the way.
Could you get a cheap wireless router to plug into the computer to give yourself wifi?
Unfortunately we cant use wireless routers out here. So really, the only way for me to get anything on it would to be downloading the APK on to the computer, and transfering it that way im assuming. Would I be able to download just the APK for most apps and do it that way, or am I pretty much limited due to the fact that I cant connect directly to the market over wifi. Thanks for the reply.
So I got my SGS3 yesterday and noticed that the Android File Transfer app won't work, which used to work well when I owned a Galaxy Nexus. I tried it on 2 different Macs and it won't work on neither. The app does not recognize the phone being connected.
When I connected it on windows (bootcamp, same Mac) it was recognized, so it's not a hardware fail, it's a software bug.
My Q is, has anybody successfully managed to use the Android File Transfer app together with a Galaxy S3.

I just tried setting the USB Connection mode to Camera (PTP) and Android File Transfer now sees my phone. Everything is fine.

On your phone, when connected to the AFP program on your mac, you'll see a USB symbol in the notification area. Pull it down and you'll see it says something like 'Connected as media device' and it'll give you options underneath that to change it. Select that and you'll get to a settings page which will allow you to set your phone as a media device ((MTP) or as a camera (PTP) - do the latter and it should work fine.
I have to say, I love this phone but am not overly enamoured with the mac syncing aspect of it. Most apps in the store are flaky at best or don't work at all, TBH. Using the above method, I've managed to get my media over to the phone by dragging/dropping from iTunes and iPhoto.
Problem is, I still can't find a way for my computer to - reliably - see my phone as a camera when I plug it in e.g. invisible to iPhoto and Image capture.
If you find a way around my problem, please post it up. HTH.

Thanks for that. Had a look at Airdroid and it seems really slick. Pity though, as it has issues with external storage.
Never mind, I'm dragging/dropping stuff from iPhoto/iTunes to folders which I the keep in sync with CheetahSync. It's all a bit inelegant, but it does the job for now.
hey guys, i'm having an issue with the file transfer. Did what the OP stated above and I can see both internal memory and SD, but when i tried to drag and drop from Finder it is giving me an error, saying my screen is locked (even when it isn't) and asking me to reconnect. anyone else have this problem? for now i'm transferring using File Explorer but its a pain in the ass. thanks!

I'm having serious trouble with AFT and tried what's been suggested here but it's still not working for me.
I've installed AFT on my MacBook (OS X Lion).
All that happens is in all tries is that when I plug in the S3, AFT simply says:
"Could not connect to device
Try reconnecting or restarting your device"
I tried both with no luck. I tried it with selecting Camera (PTP) mode and then with Media device (MTP) mode. No luck. I tried both with and without "USB debugging" selected. No luck. I tried reinstalling AFT. No luck. Restarting my MacBook. No luck.
Any ideas?

Just a heads up. Installing AFT on my macbook air caused my usb to Ethernet dongles to stop working. AFT had to be removed to fix them. Applecare are aware and IIRC blame Google.

You're right as it doesn't seem to recognise the S3 at all when on MTP but AFT starts up each time I select PTP (i.e. my Mac recognises it when in the Camera mode) but I just end up getting the "Could not connect to device, Try reconnecting or restarting your device" message.
Strangely enough AFT needs the phone to be in camera mode to work.
But KIES for OSX needs the phone to be in MTP mode. I couldnt get wireless kies to work (but didnt try all that hard either)

i dont have an s3 but i was googling this issue, i havent got a samsung device on ics working on my mac yet, my tf101 tablet just decided to work today after numerous errors about it not being connected.

I had this problem when I just got my Galaxy S3 at the end of May, and switching the connection mode to camera (ptp) did the trick. Now, however, regardless of the connection type I have chosen or whether or not I have enabled debugging, I cannot use AFT. At no point does it recognize my device, it just keeps telling me "No Android device found. Please connect your Android device with a USB cable to get started." I have reinstalled the program and still no luck.
Further info: I'm running 10.7.4 on an early 2011 15 inch MacBook Pro

Yeah, MTP never worked for me on my Macbook, while PTP worked as a workaround until LFB (and later). With LFB changing to PTP (by default) pops up Image Capture, which, if everything worked as it should, is what you'd expect I suppose. The problem is that Image Capture doesn't find any pictures on the device even though it recognises that an I9300 is connected - and Android File Manager now doesn't work in either MTP or PTP mode.
So I am not the only one not being able to transfer files using AFT? Or has someone figured it out?
Well I run KIES now and open the file browser that way. The only way I could make work on OSX. On windows I have no problems just connecting it and accessing.

Must download the SDK for ADB drivers. No other generic ADB drivers worked. I tried a ton.
You can boot into stock Recovery by holding Volume+ when booting.
Google Root Genius. Worked like a charm on an AzpenA727 tablet. Had to try a couple of times but it was the simplest, quickest way to root. After rooting you'll have to go to the play store and get Root Checker and SU. To increase battery life get SetCPU which allows you to set CPU policy so that when the screen is off the cpu runs at a couple of hundred MHz, plus you can slow down the processor while it's in use also. Experiment to find the optimal settings between performance and battery life. You can also overclock the cpu but this may lockup the tablet. There are youtube videos explaining how to reset a locked up Android tablet.
I figured it out. I downloaded the SDK and used its drivers. Those were the only drivers that worked. None of my million ADB drivers worked in Android. So that did work. I actually manually pushed all the su files from adb shell. Just needed the missing link.
So follow the directions specifically.
Also, I'm rather impressed with the stock zippiness and battery life.
Microcenter is giving these away for $20. Worth every penny. I already have a Nexus 7 2013 and a HiSense Sero Pro. Couldn't pass up.
After I rooted. I installed Xposed and Gravity box. The screen sucks but I found lighter colors are better because the horrible viewing angles distort the darker colors. Changed the status/nav bar to white and its Much better.

Nor can I move apps to the external SD. I called customer service and was told the device was not able to do that because of how the developer set it up. Upon hear that I figured someone here if not a few would know how to do that. I'd really appreciate the information. Thanks

There's no 4.4 upgrade for it. If you install the Xposed framework and Gravity Box, there is an Android 4.4 KitKat app in the Play Store that claims to make it look like 4.4. I haven't tried it yet, and can't say how well it does.

Yeah, limited System Memory on this device is the biggest PITA.
There's an app on the Play Store called FolderMount that looks like it might be able to address the problem. (At a guess, it's creating symlinks pointing to the external card.) A search for FolderMount reveals several similar apps.
I have FolderMount downloaded, but haven't played with it yet. I want to make sure I understand the implications before I fiddle.
Curious to see how you make out with the folder mount bit. I just picked one of these up from Microcenter with coupon to get it for $20 and was wondering the same thing... but I'd rather not be the guinea pig

Where did you get yours? In my case, they opened locations in Brooklyn and Queens in NYC, and the Brooklyn store was a convenient subway trip for me.
If FolderMount is creating symlinks (and it's hard to imagine what else it could be doing), it shouldn't be too dangerous. You can get a system mightily confused with symlinks, but what you want to do here is mount a directory on /mnt/extsd to an appropriate location in the root file system.
I have to look around some more, as FolderMount seems to be sparsely documented. I want to make sure I understand what it's doing.
The other thing I don't know yet is external keyboard support. The device doesn't have Bluetooth, so a USB keyboard would be required. The FAQ says it can't use one, but I don't know it that's a limitation of the factory install that can be addressed by rooting, or if it's a hardware issue and USB host mode simply isn't supported, (Like no Bluetoioth, that may be a "design to cost" move.)
The device is useful enough as is that I'll live if I can't use a keyboard with it, but it would be nice. If nothing else, it's a good way to learn about Android in preparation for the sort of device I plan to get down the road.
Meanwhile, I've been having fun, and it's certainly worth what I paid for it.

My use case is eBook viewer. I have a lot of eBooks. I had been reading them on a Palm TX (yes, I still use a Palm OS PDA), but a bigger screen and more storage capacity is nice. I use the Android version of FBReader, an open source program by a Russian developer. It handles both Mobi (Amazon Kindle) and ePub (B&N Nook, Kobo Reader) formats, and I have books in both forms. (It doesn't handle DRM, but I don't get DRM protected books.)
I use a beta Android port of VLC for video, with video files stored on the external card.

I'm an old *nix admin, who started on AT&T System V Unix long before Linux existed, so I grasp the concepts, and I've done stuff like that on larger machines. I just proceed very carefully. I prefer not to shoot myself in both feet...

The question is what you'll gain.
The scarce resource is System Memory. There's 787MB of it, and 1GB seen as SDcard. That hack lets you vastly expand the area seen as SDcard, but that's not the problem.
With my current set of apps loaded, and everything that can live on the SDcard moved there, the A727 thinks I have 118MB of System Memory free, and 728MB of the SDcard. I need more System Memory, but I don't believe that hack will provide it.
I'm still figuring out how the tablet divides up resources. I already had a case where there was a Google+ app upgrade, but it wouldn't install without a Google Play Services upgrade, and that wouldn't install because there was insufficient system memory. (How much system memory it wanted wasn't mentioned.) The fix was to uninstall Chrome (which can't be on the card.) That freed sufficient system memory to let me install the Google Play Services and the Google+ updates. After that, I could re-install Chrome. (I use Firefox as my usual browser, so could live without Chrome if need be, and Firefox can be moved to the card.)
If I can implement a hack that increases System Memory, I'll be a happy camper.

My S.O. used to live in Bellmore, but I haven't had cause to be on LI for years. I missed MicroCenter opening there.

Which flavor of Windows? The rooting method I used apparently can't be done from Linux.
I grabbed the 32bit version of the Android SDK, but couldn't get Windows to recognize the tablet from XP. It claimed it couldn't find the software to install the drivers, even though they were where I pointed. I grabbed the 64 bit version of the SDK and tried again from the SO's Win7 laptop, and it worked. From there, I could use Kingo Root to root the device.
Rooted, now can't connect to Internet
Went yesterday the new Microcenter in Flushing (actually Kew Garden HIlls) and Got the A727.
It worked fine with the store's wifi. Rooted it this morning now can't connect to internet at all through my home wifi. Other devices connect fine and I get a good private IP address on the A727, but I get the message " web page not available" in the browser and no other app can connect to the internet .
I tried everything including resetting, unrooting, restarting, turning off developer, nothing works.

You're probably connecting to your network but not authenticating.

I don't think rooting has anything to do with it. My A727 connected fine with my home network before and after rooting. In your case, it worked fine at the store because they run an open network with no authentication required.
What router do you have, and what security do you use? In my case, it's a Belkin router, and I use WPA2 encryption.
If I had to make a guess, your A727 is connecting to your network, but your network wants you to authenticate with a password, and you aren't seeing it.
Tap Settings, and select Wifi. If Wifi is off, you'll be prompted to turn it on. When Wifi is on, the A727 will scan for networks and display those it sees in range. Do you see your network SSID? Tap on it. You ought to be able to get to a place where you can provide your network password and properly authenticate.

What router do you have, and what security do you use? In my case, it's a Belkin router, and I use WPA2 encryption.
If I had to make a guess, your A727 is connecting to your network, but your network wants you to authenticate with a password, and you aren't seeing it.

I use connectify on Windows 8.1 as the internet source.
I don't think it's an authentication issue. When I deliberately enter a wrong password authentication takes forever and connectify says no cliet connected. when I put the correct password it connects almost emmidietly and says 1 client connected, but still not able to load web pages or have any other app connect to the internet.
Try using an actual wireless router

Hmmm. So your Win 8.1 box connects directly to your ISP feed, and you use Connectify to create a wifi hotspot and the Windows box as a wireless router?
According to Techend, at http://techzend.com/create-ad-hoc-wifi-hotspot-windows-81/ "I have read that many Android phones do not support ad-hoc connections, created by tools like connectify.", and you might be running into one of those cases. My wifi router isn't creating an ad hoc network, and I had no problems connecting to it with the A727 before or after routing.
You may need to get an honest-to-God external wireless router instead of trying to get your Windows machine to serve the purpose. (I'd recommend that in any case - your machine should be behind your router, not serving as your router.)

Yes, my 8.1 is connected to a cable modem via Ethernet. I don't need a router because I don't connect other devices that often.
Connectify can create an encrypted access point, so that's not the issue. my Galaxy note 2 can connect withouth a problem to it, but not the ad-hoc.
Like I said, you may need a real router

I have multiple devices connecting here: my desktop, my SO's laptop, a netbook, an ancient notebook on occasion, my PDA, the A727 tablet, and one or two other things once in a great while. The desktop, notebook, and netbook connect via CAT5 cable to ethernet ports on the router, and the laptop and tablet connect via wifi.
But I'd want the router even if I just had one device. As a matter of security if for no other reason, I want my interface to my cable provider to be separate from the machines that connect through the interface.
While it's all very well Win8.1 machines can b used that way, I wouldn't want to. (And I multi-boot Linux, too, which leaves solutions like Connectify out even if I were inclined to use them.)

Which is why I think you may need to use an actual router if you want to connect with the A727. Routers are cheap. You can get a serviceable one for about the price of a Connectify Hotspot license. My Belkin N150 was under $40.

Just bought my Nokia 8 the other day. Got it for AUD$499! from Harvey Norman - who was out of stock - but price matched by JB Hi-fi.
I was using a Samsung Note 4, which was doggone slow. Might be resetting that one and putting it up for sale - any potential takers?
My Note 4 used SideSync, which connected to by PC via USB cable. Sidesynced allowed me to see and control my Note4 on my PC. I can do everything on the phone from my PC - I liked sending texts and SMS for example.
There doesn't appear to be an equivalent for the Nokia 8. I have seen alot of mirroring apps that require screen casting, but none which allows connection via USB.
The question - what is the equivalent out there to SideSync (which is only compatible with Samsung phones. I've tried it and it does not work). I've enabled USB debugging. The Nokia 8 says SideSync keeps closing. I can see the phone from my PC as it's connected by USB - so I can see the files on the phone from my PC - but cannot see the phone's screen or do anything to the phone.

You could try AirDroid if you know, which it gives you the option to control the phone and send texts and many other things. The only thing which i don't know if it suits you, is that it syncs through the wifi network... You connect the phone to your wifi network, and from your pc you go to a link that the app gives you and scan the QR code and thats it...
Try it maybe it will do the job for you.

Thank you for responding. I really want a USB connection to the PC as going over the air through my companies WiFi I am sure will slow things down. I have looked at Apowermirror and they want you to pay to use it and it's UI is a bit clunky. There's also Wondershare Go, but there doesn't seem to be an app on the playstore for screen mirroring, though I did do this with my Note 4.
