[Q] S2 Touchscreen crazy click - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought my Galaxy S2 week ago on United States, but it's imported I don't know where.
I got it today, and when I tried setup it the touchscreen problem started.
I don't touch on screen but it "auto" click on middle left of screen, so, it's impossible use.
I tried restore to factory and no lucky to fix it.
When i put the S2 on charge ou USB cable connected on computer, the touchscreen "auto" click stop, but if i remove the cable connected, it return.
Anyone know why this? I can't return to EUA to change and need know if is software issue ou hardware.
Can I call to samsung on Brazil and ask about it to change or fix the problem? I need pay?
It's a new phone, I need fix this with Samsung or w/e...

im sorry to say, but it seems hardware problem. u want to take it samsung repair centre.

It's really weird... I tried update the firmware but still the same problem...
Anyone think they need change the smartphone or it's simple to fix on authorized of samsung?

Before you turn it in; dial *#0*#
Then run the 'touch-test'. So you can diagnose whether it's the screen itself!
If problem persists; still return to Samsung!

Same Problem
hello, I'm facing the same problem, i bought my s2 a month ago with 1 year warranty, i faced strange issue, i was using the phone as a WiFi hotspot, then left it on the table and went to sleep, i wake up and the screen isn't responding, then i noticed a crack in the upper right of the screen, i know warranties exclude broken screens and damages caused by improper usage, although that i didn't cause the crack of the screen(no one would believe that) i went online and bought a replacement, it arrived 2 weeks later, i went online and checked on how to replace it, i did all the procedures and replaced the screen and everything went well and i got the phone functional again, but the screen went crazy with auto touches in the middle of the screen i tried everything possible by software and hardware, anyways i realized it has nothing to do with software, then by hardware i checked everything and all was right, any possible solution other than Samsung repair center?

did you solve it ? and how ?
because i think i have the same problem
i formatted everything like it was a new phone, same thing.
see the screenshots:
btw i enabled "show pointer" in developer options to see the touches,
as you see, all the touches is in the same exact column:

Anyone got an idea as to why?
i tried to reboot airplane mode off on....everything...( that i know of at lest)
Thank you very much!
Cheers!
I don't know if it is me, but I have a hard time understanding what you're asking. Are you rooted and what roms/themes are you using? What did you try doing before you started having this problem?
It looks like you have data in that screenshot. I had a problem with not getting any signal, but that was my fault. I manually edited the apns so I could tether and crowned them to root oops.
Edit: Grammar.
I am not sure what you are asking but I can tell you why your screen shot looks green.
I believe you are using ScreenShotIt or similar, if so check the "Invert color box"
Alright, Yeah I am using one of thous programs!
The issue is that as you can see, the h+ icon shows up, but thats all I manage to get, no data is transfered, it only shows the icon..
I cant figure out why
I am rooted running NO MODS
You have data turned on, right?
Settings > Data Manger > Data Delivery
I have never seen or heard of anyone with this problem. If it were my phone, I would be betting on either a hardware problem or a network problem with your carrier. Can you make phone calls and use wifi still?
Yes i can still make calls and use wifi, and yes data is enabled, like I used it for a full day and then it just...did this..

Weird, it is beginning to sound like a hardware problem. One last thing, I believe Pelephone is in Israel, any chance there is either no data provisioned on your SIM or it got turned off by your provider; I would give them a call first.
Good luck.
I dont see how it can be a hardware problem it used to work fine, and then it just stops, it didnt get droped or anything..
I got a plan with pelephone for 2 GB a month, that started a few days ago..
No one else got an idea?
If i got into *#*#463#*#* It shows i got a HSDPA connection
Like I said call Pelephone, it could be a provisioning issue at their end.
its saturday so they are not working today..i will call them tomorrow..even though i tested it on another device and it worked...
I still dont see how it could be a hardware problem if it worked fine before..
AND if it is...where can i send it to be fixed? ( money or no money)
I don't know the Pelephone rules but if you got it from them, they should cover warranty replacements. If you got it from a third party that doesn't do warranty, you still have one year warranty with Moto and will need to contact them.

Bit annoyed my last two mobiles have had this issue though, how difficult can it be to release a flagship phone without a simple problem like this?

I've always had exactly the same thing on my SGS. I only see it on indoor shots, or low light outdoors.
Edit: A little Googling turns up some additional info. HTC says SW problem. Also an indication it's on many devices and due to white balance adjustment.

Ok so how abouth this now?
IS this a software problem or hardware?
No need to return for this?
It is not a hardware fault, it is a restriction in the lens.
Most of the leading manufacturers have this as they use the same system in constructing the lens.
The only way is by having a software update.
The HTC HD & HD2 had it bad and although not entirely cured a software fix lowered a lot of the issue.
Samsung are aware of it and hopefully we should see some sort of 'makeup' to correct the problem.
As already mentioned the only time you will notice it is indoors on a plain light coloured wall.
When outside the sensor is not working so hard as there is a lot more light, as such it is then hardly if any noticed.
You can lower it yourself as a temporary step by going into the phones settings:-
Settings/Display/Background Effect/ and select Movie.
It dampens down the colours and as such washes out the strength of the pink.
Hate to say it, but restrictions in the lens are hardware. Hardware is essentially anything not software related and although software can mitigate or amplify hardware problems, the root cause is a physical characteristic beyond the 1s and 0s of the firmware.
Question is, what did you guys do about it? I had one device without the issue (but was returned due to screen problems) and now I have a new device with the issue.
I'm thinking about returning this one too, but am undecided. What do you guys say?
Samsung Galaxy S2 Pink Spot Camera
Hi guys,
I just bought SGS2 a week ago and replaced once. Unfortunately the problem is still there on current replaced phone. Isn't this too coincidence to get the replaced phone with the same problems? First thought was a hardware problem, but now it seems like some kind of software issue in SGS2?
I have browse around and found here. Felt undecided now like Quist, still thinking whether want to return it to shop or just keep it, or change it to other phone/brand.
Thanks!
Apparently this problem is resolved to an extent in the new KE7 firmware if the (unofficial) release notes are to be believed.

Hi amuneer,
I got my SGS2 set with latest preloaded KE7 version. Do you means I need to flash it using that unofficial KE7 version to solve the pink spot issue? I saw many SGS2 users who flash their phone with that version got a lot of problems. Sounds unstable to me.
KE7 didn't help at all for me.

no improvements here either! same red circle with ke7
Hi guys, I'm going to get my SGS2 replacement for the 3rd times now, because i saw someone posted that he don't have pink spot on his SGS2 camera. Let see whether that was a coincidence received manufacturer defective set or really a hardware/software issue behind SGS2. Wish me Good Luck!
Update: Got my 3rd replacement SGS2 on my hand. The answer is all SGS2 100% having the same Pink Spot problem. No update, no news, and no solution yet. I think I will keep the phone and see what Samsung says...
On the phone I had that didn't have it, I went back and reviewed all the pics I kept in similar lighting situations and instead of a pink tint in the middle with a greenish tint towards the edges, it had a pinkish tint towards the edges and a green tint in the middle. I saw the same green spot phenomenon on one of the other units I planned to switch to.
Seems to me that the optics on the SGSII aren't all that hot and the white-balance algorithm uses an average across the whole screen, meaning that if there are any variations in the lens (highly likely) will give it a mottled green/pink appearance.
If anyone can confirm they have neither, it would be wonderful. Still trying to decide if I'm going to DOA my latest unit - have two more days to decide.
me too...

What is deep sleep? What rom version you use? Where do people report this problem? Never heared about it.
Try installing the last stock rom "KK5".

I would like to know any Euro's user have same problem
Is it Hardware issue or software issue?? I really hope that the problem can be fixed after flash other kernel/rom
If any one fixed this problem, please kindly advise me. Million thanks!!!

Do not panic. It is a software issue.
It is not a problem of the Galaxy R and it is not related to Europe or Asia.
It was you that damaged the software on your phone in some way. But there is a way out.
1) Put the battery out. Put the battery back in. Press Power. Does it turn on?
2) Are you able to enter Download mode (volume down + home + power)?
3) Flash KK5 with Odin. Does Odin complete to flash and say OK at the end?
4) Enter recovery mode (power... wait... volume up + home). In recovery mode tell him to wipe data/factory reset.
I never install any apps/flash any things on my I9103 and it's 100% stock KJ3 rom. it should be nothing wrong on software...
1) Put the battery out. Put the battery back in. Press Power. Does it turn on?
Yes.
2) Are you able to enter Download mode (volume down + home + power)?
Yes
3) Flash KK5 with Odin. Does Odin complete to flash and say OK at the end?
I am afraid more serious after flash KK5...
4) Enter recovery mode (power... wait... volume up + home). In recovery mode tell him to wipe data/factory reset.
I had already tried to wipe cache and data.
Moreover, it always occurs(Look like turn off) when charging. Then i must need to put the battery out and put it back in, no other methods can wake up my phone.

Hardware issue
Hi guys,
This is my first post here. I have recently bought this phone and have been having the same issue.
I think I have diagnosed it as well(with help from various forums).
When I expose the mobile to sunlight, the problem magically vanishes!! As Legion pointed it out, this is a hardware problem.
My guess: For the proximity sensor to work, it should send a signal and receive a reflected signal from some surface. The light sensor somehow absorbs the waves emitted by proximity sensor. And hence the proximity sensor does not function correctly at all. This problem apparently does not exist when the light sensor is exposed to sunlight(or any bright white light).
@kennychan, please expose your phone to sunlight and check if your phone "deepsleeps".
I'm from Europe and i have the same problem...
phone simply doesn't respond to anything... i even tried to call myself... the signal is like i'm available but Galaxy R doesn't ring...puling out battery works but it's driving me nuts... have to check every 5 minutes to see if my phone is alive

Why are you not bringing the faulty phone to the shop where you bought it to have it repaired? did you guys steal it?
bro, it is not we who experiencing the problem did not want to go to shop and repair it..
we r just looking for some evidence and solution before sending our unit to shop.. and maybe the problem can be rectify here in XDA.. it would save our time and money, rather than arguing with the shop/service center.
thats why we need an official forum for Galaxy R.. to share the good and the bad about this product. (no pun intended)
and look like we r not gonna have a forum anyway.. i dont understand why they stopped counting votes for Galaxy R..
I gave my phone for service. Samsung service center got my phone replaced(except the back panel and battery)

so anything galaxy R have to be repair at normal shop not directly from Samsung.

deep sleep is basically making sure your CPU uses a little power as possible. I had similar problem with my S running 2.3.3. Update to 2.3.4+ using odin should fix this

You didn't say nothing about your software - is it stock or are you running a custom ROM? Is it the default camera or 3rd party app? How and when did this started happening? Did the phone suffer any water damage? Was the phone repaired recently?
I suggest that you return the phone to stock and see if the pink dot appears again. If it does, your phone has a hardware issue and you should take it to a Samsung service center (if it's still under warranty). Or a phone repair shop to replace the camera module. Best of luck.
It has nothing to do with the app
its the camera itself
you can't change that :crying:
I'm really sorry

From what you've described here, it looks like a faulty camera sensor. If you google "pink spot on pictures" you'll see that it happens with many devices, not just SGS2. The solution is to replace the camera by warranty repair or at a cellphone repair shop.
Just curious - are you using the phone's camera for professional photography?

Got another one: Can you disable the "Beauty Mode" on the front facing camera permanently? I want the slider to always be at 0. Really, really annoying for people who have freckles or stubble.
Anyone tried updating their h860 variant to this version? This is the first update i am getting since owning the phone for almost a month now.

How does the battery in the cam plus module work? Ive seen reports saying it doesnt work except when using the camera? Why would this be? Also tk bay said ipyou can not charge your phone with the cam plus module on? How dumb could lg be?

The CamPlus Module is specifically meant to be used with the Camera App on the phone. There is a switch on the module that allows quick access to the Camera app. There's a Shutter Button, as well as button for taking videos.
You can charge the phone with the Module installed. The module has it's own battery and I've discovered that the module may charge the phone momentarily. With the Cam Plus Module installed on my G5, with a solid LTE Signal, I can get close to 15 hours of use in a day.
1. Any one facing serious lag with chrome?
2. When im trying launch recovery with hardware keys it asks if its ok to wipe everything- this is the way to recovery?
3. The fingerpring sensor sometimes not responding at all even when the display turned on.

1) Nope, i'm using Chrome dev and is smooth
2) Yes, lg's stock recovery only performs the hard reset, and it's the same on the other LG devices.
3) No problem with the fingerprint scanner, maybe a faulty device? Try to unlock the screen 4-5 times with the fingerprint and check if it works correctly

If it's so rare then there is no reason to worry about, it could just be a "stability" problem of the "young" software, or it's just you that put your finger in a wrong way, maybe Try to re-add the fingerprint or to add another one and See if things are different

The touch? You mean that if sometimes if you put your finger in the sensor the phone doesn't viber (which means wrong fingerprint) and no led appears? Well, that is sue strange, never happened to me, but still if it's so rare probably there is no need to worry about, if the problem get worse then it could be an hardware issue

Ok thank you!
Has any experienced mediocre Wi-Fi speeds? On my AT&T G5 I'm getting 18Mbps down and 6Mbps up compared to 48Mbps down and 6Mbps up on my Nexus 6 on a speed test at home. At work I get 110 down and 80 up on my G5, my Nexus 6 will get 240 down and 105 up. It's basically half of what my Nexus 6 will get on average. Anyone know what I need to do? Some weird setting I need to change?
