[Q] Android on iPhone/s...why?? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just been watching loads of YouTube videos about people trying to install android on iPhones. My question is why?? Android is open source and iOS is closed source. Android users don't see developers porting iOS to android devices do we? Because its pointless and its never going to work. If they want android....buy an android device....simples

Android was designed so that it could be installed on any device. It's up to the developers to fix the drivers to work. Practical? No. Do it because we can? Hell yea!
Edit: for Yall that didn't know.. we got android on microwaves and washing machines now. Seriously. Look it up.

I just don't get it because nothing works on the iPhone version. So then its pretty much pointless. That's like me having iOS on my i9000 but nothing working within lol waste of space and pointless in my opinion

And last but not least:
- because they can
Or to say it completely freely:
- for the lulz
There doesn't need to be a deeper meaning behind such endeavors. They're geeks. Let them be geeks. Different people do all sorts of different stuff, these people port their favorite OS to every device they can get their hands on.

WebOS open source!

This is great news! Maybe we could finally see the os ported to Android after all. In the mean time a webOS developer has already installed it on his EVO 3D. I'd love to see this project take off in the Android community its a long time coming....

This is just what WebOS needed, its a great operating system just didn't have any good devices. Hope to see it on the mopho.

I'm glad it's open source, I own a touchpad and I've still yet to put Android on it. I love Android but I find WebOS to be a pretty great OS as well, the card multi-tasking is just unparalleled on any other OS.
I'm hoping we get to see custom WebOS roms for both WebOS devices and Android devices, how awesome would that be?
Don't see the point in using webOS now. It has very little app support (nothing near android) and as far as I know, everything WebOS can do, Android can do too.
Its an abandoned OS from a practically non-existent company (Palm, though HP is around, they aren't exactly bolstering it in the same that Apple does for iOS, Google does for Android and Microsoft for WP7).
I see this development as mainly a curiosity. I can see the touchpad crowd interested, but I'd much rather use Android on my Android devices (e.g. Photon).

sides who knows perhaps one day there will be a merging of webos features with android features
imagine the good parts of webos being compiled into android. CM9 w/ card support. its like even wrapped in ice cream sandwhiches plated on webos cards!
If I can get my card multitasking back, I may just cry tears of joy.

WebOS card multitasking is better than any OS on the market (I've owned every mobile OS out there). Imagine the CM team or even Google taking bits and pieces from webos and cramming them in Android.

I don't own a photon," kennypowders" or else I'd make sure you'd be graced with my presence on a daily basis.
It is what they've done.
More polished, apps button allows you to select which app quicker and more like webos and also the ability to swipe away apps to close them via that same menu.
Also, the removal of hardware buttons.
I have ICS running on the EVO, and while multitasking is certainly improved and in some ways similar to WebOS, the multitasking in WebOS is still superior.
However, Android does other things better than WebOS, and WebOS does some things better than Android. I enjoy both.
A merging of certain feature sets due to the open-source code would be pretty great.

No trouble at all. It will install and run just fine. Just make sure you use the right installation discs and serial number and don't forget that you can always phone Apple for support if need be.
ARM hardware does not, like x86-hardware, provide software compatibility (uniform hardware abstraction) across platforms.
Furthermore Apple uses a completely different ARM architecture (ARM A15 if I'm not mistaken) while Samsung bases on the ARM A9, it being an extension of the ARM A7.
Unless you can compile from source and manually build the necessary drivers, you won't get it to work. (Windows Mobile neither)
Note that Apple does not even use Linux-based systems but BSD-based (Darwin), so yeah...
The only trouble i can think of you having is actually having ios on a sgs3!!! For reaaaallllllll?

Yes thats right we can develop beyond using the Kindle fire and I just cant believe we havent. The OMAP4 is almost exacly the same as the Nvidia Tegra2. lets take for example the galaxy tab with Nvidia tegra2 AND THE GALAXY TAB 2 with Ti Omap.4030. the only difference is the omap beat the tegra chip in graphics by a hair and it can run 3d where the tegra cannot.
just do the math and due diligence and I will gladly be a tester in this.

You have tried CM7 right?
As for it being laggy, everything basically since stock has had some sort of hw video deciding or hw accel problem. Some of them have been fixed like CM7 but a lot of others haven't. This can be attributed to the 3.0 kernel not being done. Rather than focus on fixing an old outdated 2.6 kernel they are focusing on getting everything to work on the 3.0 kernel and they've made great progress. In fact Rebellos said that it was a matter of days until hw video/accel worked.
All I can say is that maybe the expectations are a little too high.

If you are SO much smarter than all of us and by some miracle have figured out something that we haven't, than why haven't you done something about it instead of yelling at people to try and get them to do it for you? Easy answer: you haven't found anything.
This last January was the first time I flashed a ROM. Yet here I am about 6 months later and I've been a successful project leader of a Google Now port for ICS. If I can do that and I'm only a young 15 y/o Dev, why cant you with all your "experience" do ANYTHING helpful here at all?
Oh wait, you can't.

No, we can't develop for it cuz IPhone is designed for ios and if android is developed for iPhone then I think Apple would sue the developer ( not sure though ). We can't develop properly for it, we need proper packages, omx codecs ,proper libs. Finding or writing omx codecs is difficult job cuz there is difficulty in finding proper omx libs for android phones! How can we find for iPhone???
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda app-developers app
I know its very difficult...but if we try...it will be possible...I have googled it any many say that its possible but a bit tough and risky...for we need jailbreaking iOS....which is easy...then need to put our brains and start the Developement.
Well, you'd need proper drivers; either you get them from Apple or you're building them yourself (which is a real pain).
You'd also need to somehow get the Android kernel in there, which is also a pain, since ... well, it just is...
It's tricky, but I've seen a pair of iPhone 4s with Android on, i just don't know where and when...
Though Android still RULZ
Well it will be.difficult....but i have seen people using android iphone...i know we cant make a perfect rom but still we can make a compatible rom

Don’t forget, judging by all lawsuits (Apple vs the world) no body can develop anything similar to their products or use their products, whilst they continue to freely, so called, “innovate” what android been doing for years (i.e. “pull down notification” blatant copy).

Back in like ios 2 or earlier they used to have android in cydia....And,even then thr marker didnt work...
But as everyones saying...due to the fact that apple keeps everything clised source, sues everyone, and puts in a ton of security...it would be extremely hard and take months if not years...by the time we got it going for one there would be a new one...we hav no source to work with
The people that actually deveolp stock roms get paid and work in large teams and also have degrees in this sort of thing...its there job -and it still takes them about a year to release
Now look at us xda people...some of us,may have degrees in development. But many of us,are self taught. On top of that we all have a life outside of xda...jobs, family friends...so we really dont have that much time to work on stuff. Last...we are not paid...we do it cause we enjoy it...but i dont think anyone would enjoy building android for iphone simply cause you would pretty much have to creaye your own drivers and libs
So sorry to burst your bubble...but i dont see this ever hapoening. The end product isnt worth the work, not to mention the lawsuits apple is famous for...

i dont think it would make much sense. iphone has a processor about 800 mhz right? it wont create a performance thats near to any androidphone, it would probably lose against my x10 with 1ghz and 384 mb ram.... Maybe one could build donut or froyo for it andbthat would also run like it should after two years in development or so, but who would use it (you wouldnt by an iphone if android was on it, because any androidphone would give better performance for lower price, so you buy it because it works better than android and, oh yes, the apple...) I think it would be much cooler to port ios to work on androidphones, soon, when apple "invented" all features of android, it will still have the better performance, thet even hardest androidfans have to see.

It's a lawsuit waiting to happen though...apple would shut it down the moment they heard of it...
iOS is closed source...that being said it requires permission to work with it. With out permission you are illegally working on it. It would not be allowed on xda due to lack of permission...
As for porting android to iPhone...as I said earlier I don't see that happening either...there's not enough demand and we have no drivers/proprietary files to work with

Just to say someone would do it for sure, maybe he would give the project on and on but it ciuld.never be distributed in internet. I would say Someone could look in ios files and "invent" some things similar to port into android, but it wouldnt be supported or in any kind makin sense. btw im just lookin up a friend and buy his old iphone 3g to try that out

IOS 7 For Samsung Fascinate?

Does anyone know a ROM or way to get IOS 7 on my Fascinate? Ive tried launchers but they are always laggy. Im currently running Hellybean 4.2 and using clockwork mod as my recovery. Thanks
What possesses you to even want iOS 7?

I don't believe this is possible
There are plenty of amazing roms for the fascinate, hellybean being one of the best. I don't know why you would want to downgrade to ios7 even if it was possible?
I currently want to try out something new, that's all...

If you want IOS, you're just going to have to pickup an iphone. The architecture is different and there is no dev team that I'm aware of that will put in the time and effort required to make this happen. I remember a while back someone working on iOS 5 for android but they quit due to the amount of work and resources required
IOS 7 looks like android anyway

I'm saying there's no point to want iOS 7 if you have android because it looks like a android developer got fired and hired by apple and just made android for apple. I HATE apple. I just wonder how iPhone users feel to own a phone that copies the **** out if android. Apple sues everyone for likeness and bs and then they flat out copy the UI android for the most part

I think there is an obscure way to put ios on an android only because I've seen my brother put ios on his droid 2 a few years ago as well as put ios on his laptop but that wasn't ios 7 and like everyone already said wtf would you want to put that crap on there. Even if I'm right and you do find a way to put ios on your phone there will prolly be a lot of bugs and missing services like a lot of other roms. Best bet is to just pick up an iphone
