Evo 3D sense 3.5 - HTC EVO 3D

Anyone have any clue if we'll be getting it? The bliss is coming with it and its a 800mhz single core. The og evo never saw a new version of sense. Does HTC just update android versions? Or have any phones gotten a sense version upgrade?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App

I believe the only reply that can be said is who the heck knows outsidev of htc and sprint. I'm not being rude, but nobody knows when anything comes out. Htc has, as other companies a tight lipped, not tell policy. Outside of leaks, your guess is as good as any. Example, we know when we are getting ice cream, 4 quarter this year, do you know when we are getting it for the 3vo? If anybody does know I would to.

Yes, phones get sense updates, at least the EVO Shift did.

I'm curious to see what will be added in Sense 3.5. But if it's anything worth while, it would be rather odd if the Evo 3D didn't get it. I mean, the Sensation and especially the Evo 3D are clearly HTC's flagships so it would only make sense (haha) to have these phones rocking the latest and greatest Sense version.
Unless HTC plans on releasing a new flagship phone short after the Bliss?

I'd almost be offended if we didn't knowing a 800mhz phone is getting it

Me to. Currently in a 'wait state' for the flyer port or cm. Either the software is kicking good and hardware is lagging or hardware is kicking and software is lagging. However, I still gotta remember, it's only a phone, but oh what a phone...
I would love sense in landscape. Launcher pro is good, but just does not cut it.

We probably will. Only since our phone was just released though.

I would have agreed on older builds of Touchflo--->Sense but 3.0 is very nice and useful; much better in design and function than Touchwiz or Motoblur. AOSP is too bland for me after using Sense 3.0...

I think that was a poor choice on HTC and/or Sprints part too. Granted the processor wasn't as capable as the current SoC in the EVO 3d but it was tested and shown to work very effectively on the EVO 4G's hardware.
With a little tweak & optimization, it could have been outfited on the EVO 4G but then HTC was likely looking forward to the future EVO 3D...

The Sense Dev site is live so even when 4.x comes around we should be fine.
Given how new our phones are, it's just a matter of time.

+1 yea it doesnt make sense for them to put a better UI on something that is.not a flagship and less than half as powerful as the.e3d ..I was looking at some of the new features on the new MOTO features that is on the Droid 3 (not on photon yet) and although I'm not a fan in whole they have some nice features like being able to pan side to side when pinch to zoom as well as a couple of other things..btw I just made a special trip to the sprint store to see what all the fuss was.over the photon and i must say I don't think its as nice as the e3d..the pixels on the screen is.very noticeable to me and the UI is laggy ..

Netflix works, hulu works (same exploit as og evo), screen density can be changed once perm root hitsd...app stability? Haven't had a single FC not due to user error...just hold it out...

not to mention root will come with an unlocked bootloader, and a kickstand can be added via a case.
This is the most powerful phone I've ever owned. Speed and headroom are the most important, root will come soon enough now im just getting to know the stock veriosn of the 3D so when all the mods come, I can pick and choose the mods that fit me. Spend these unrooted moments to get to know the 3D before going hard in the paint with the mods. HTC is doing a great job addressing issues. I do miss the width and kickstand of the OG EVO but this phone is too powerful to go back. Hang in there with us.

from what i understand the features you miss arnt due to htc its due to the app devs screen size is about the same kickstand missing dont use mine and as far as stabability one of the downfalls of getting early phone
Screen size is definitely not the same. It's width is smaller and its longer. I don't think the phone is enough of an upgrade. They should have gone the route of the thunderbolt.

Yeah because obviously single core is better in every aspect
Or 512mb of RAM is better than 1Gb
Or a wvga display is better than qhd
The og EVO is tapped out..
The 3vo has yet to be pushed to its max
What did u expect? A phone that is custom tailored to your needs... Some of you ignorant people saying "its not a big enough upgrade". Do not know what a upgrade is...

qhd means quarter high definition resolution, not the type of display. Which means it has exactly 1/4 the amount of pixels than full HD. The OG evo has a WVGA resoltuioin
theyre both lcd's. The evo 3d just a better one.

I think you would still be ok with the 3vo, however I would probably hold off judgement until then... By then you might have a solid Nexus Prime release date.
If it has ice cream update will definitely be a evo killer lol, but doubt it and it looks like an update thunderbolt when you look at the device id is almost the same as the thunderbolt (really nice device loved the screen on the phone)

I would wait for the upgrade to get it on the cheap, but consider that we are just coming out of a round of processor releases, and if the last two cycles are any indication it will be about 16-18 months before anything that would count as a legitimate upgrade to the 3d will actually come out, so you'll be pretty close to another upgrade by then.
also in response to thread: really? i mean, we have 1.5ghz processors already and i dont think resolution has proven itself to be the metric by which phones live or die.

Nice, but not all that...

Other than the awesome camera, and slim unibody design, this Evo LTE really isn't that much better than my old Photon. I'll probably feel differently when LTE is live, but considering there's not even WiMax in Wisconsin, it wasn't that much of an upgrade.
However, Sprint made a mistake and said I was eligible for an upgrade 7 months into my 2 yr contract, and my charging port on the Photon broke...so I'm not really complaining
Basically, if it's time to upgrade, go for it...but if your phone is only a year old, or less, I'd wait - unless you're in a first wave LTE market.

I get what the op is saying about the not worth it if the phone you have is a yr old or less. He is one of the few people that obviously don't upgrade to every increment.
And that he liked his photon enough just like a lot on the 3d couldn't see the point in upgrading to this email phone. Now until we get some hd apps other then hulu the screen is nice. I netflix hd would be a improvement as well as hulu in hd. I have no clue what performance is like on the photon. When it came out it was full of lag. And besides he was giving his thoughts switching from one to another right place meh maybe he could have put it I will another thread bu yeab.

New intriguing upgrade

Well guys, I've been a fan of the EVO LTE since the customs preorder debacle. There have been quite a few hiccups, 3 dot menu, multi-tasking, frapple, but they have all been ironed out to make this phone one of the best on the market.
Having said all of that, I am looking towards the future. Say early 2014; what are some upcoming phones you believe will be successor to the EVO LTE? If not another HTC then what if anything do u have your eye on?
I am just curious to see what the future may hold. Have dreams of octo-cores and 8gb ram that could rival a gaming rig nowadays, lol.
Was waiting on windows phone but the ones sprint getting are wack. Checking fot the optimus g pro or g2 and this t6/htc one max phone
I have my upgrade in March 2014. I've been an evo nut since the OG but I'm anxious to see what will be available at that time. Samsung devices are much easier to root and I imagine there are more custom ROMs available due to their popularity.
Sent from my EVO using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
@atheistevofreak you would think so with 40 million+ sales but if you check out the sprint s3 section they have as much to choose from as we do.
I upgrade in october but im probably gonna be holding out for the One Max hopefully for a deal on black friday. The Ultra Z is what i had my eye on especially with them saying theyre going to be on top of updates now and always dropping aosp builds for their devices but a 3000mah battery with that processor and display amongst other things aint cuttin it. The nexus 5 by lg based loosely off the g2 sounds nice even tho i want a bigger screen but i doubt its coming to sprint. The note 3 sounds nice also but i hate their current design and even more than that i hate how touchwiz looks which is a shame because the multi screen and other features are great. The Honami is too small for me but its camera is off the chain. I have no interest in the g2 even tho its not a bad device, just nothing special. And i have absolutely no interest in the moto x.
I am honestly, completely torn on this. Android has really left that newly-wed stage that was very exciting. I love what android has become but the aftermarket development has grown stale. It seems every rom is the same except for the boot animations and carrier banner. Aosp roms have all become CM/AOKP/PA omelets. And except for Venom and its tweak settings, Sense Roms are all Identical. Back in the Hero days, Roms were modded for performance and devs also put some creative, cosmetic changes, fully themed, new icons, different animations, and all custom notification bar icons. It seems like everyone is out to get there name in the books like they are earning money from this. Just relabeling some one else's work and calling it their rom.
I think this just might be my last Android Device. Not sure how Windows Phone and I will get along... Hopefully it works out...

The 1020 is a great phone.
As smooth as the os is, i dont like it.
To each their own though.
My buddy loves his lumia.
While they might have the same selection of roms as us, they definitely have a bigger user base

I want my battery to last all day. Seriously considering a Note 3 or One Max. I'll wait for reviews. My contract is already up.

Galaxy mega coming to sprint. Dont think 6.3 is a size i wanna a phone to be though.

I have my upgrade in March 2014. I've been an evo nut since the OG but I'm anxious to see what will be available at that time. Samsung devices are much easier to root and I imagine there are more custom ROMs available due to their popularity.

It must have been some kind of magic trick... I'll try to reproduce some day. (probably not)
Just read this:

No 4.3 for EVO LTE HOW DOES IT FEEL

Android 4.3 Hitting US-Based HTC One Models Soon, Says HTC Insider - No Android 4.3 for the One S and EVO LTE | Androidheadlines.com
Pretty much sucks. Here I come Swappa! then off to Nexus 4 or Moto X via AIO, Straight talk, or Tmobile. I'll never buy another phone if it isn't a Sammy or Google.
it doesn't matter...we have awesome developers who are currently working on that sense 5 port! just a little bit more waiting, and we'll have android 4.3.
I've been on 4.3 since early August.

I said it earlier. Sprint makes the final decision and not HTC. Don't blame them. Blame Sprint.

EVO still on local shelves. You'll get 4.2 or 4.3 definitely. They will do it like the original Evo Gingerbread update. You'll get it with no UI change.

I love it. This is so true. I don't care how many janky ports there are! I need my phone to be updated and work as it should. No disrespect to the devs but HTC makes it too difficult to make things work as Sense is too deep into the system.
As for Sprint I just shake my head. I live in Milwaukee and I haven't seen good service ever. I have a VZ Pantech for work and its data is great. I also have been testing T-Mobile hotspot that I got from Walmart which I tether mySprint phone to. I get about 6 down and 3 up.
This wasn't the icing on the cake but just shows y HTC can't compete with the big boys. I mean look at the S2 its been updated. This is y I'm going Nexus or Moto for here on out

I'm sick of paying 199.00 for a phone to stay in contract for two years. My contract isn't up and already screwed. You want to know why? The Sprint parties and maby HTC think ill upgrade to the one. Don't count your lucky stars! Ill go with Samsung or heck I may even take a look at the new Apple. I'm not even sure at this point I want to give Sprint my business on anything. The whole deal makes me sick!

So the lte and s won't get it, that leaves a few devices with similar specs which will. as for sense being too deep uhh yea it can be but that doesn't stop me, it just takes longer. My advice for you is that you unroot and get a nexus also stay unrooted its little ****s like you that ruin the android community you wouldn't be rooted if it were not for a one click tool you're pathetic with the whining and *****ing we devs aren't your parents and I doubt you're a toddler so stfu already.

No 4.3? Big deal. I have better things in life to pour my emotions into.
Quite frankly, I care about Sense 5, not Android 4.3. Having 4.2.2 surely is a bonus over Sense 4.1 (port) didn't the quick settings and few lockscreen widgets. I've tested Sense 5, and the lighter UI improves performance immediately. Even the multitasking problem is much better (not like CM 10.1, but MUCH better than Sense 4.1).
You have to face the facts that our device is aging. That's how HTC does it. I KNEW that before I bought this phone, and I'm sure that most of you did too. Samsung can update its old flagship (like the S2) because MUCH more people purchased those handsets. HTC provided support for the OG EVO for a pretty decent period of time because of the big impact that it made.
You have to remember, the EVO 4G LTE is SPRINT'S flagship, NOT HTC! We are lucky enough to get the recognition to be listed on the to-be-updated list while we are over here on the back burner. I expect the One to get much better support than our phone because it is a carrier-wide flagship, unlike the Evo or the Incredible (who might not even get Sense 5,so be happy!).
Basically, this is a business, and the masses have already moved onto the One. Look at how many devs - OUR DEVS - have moved on. It should actually be in the company's best interest to please those people as well as the general public who have actually upgraded their phones to the latest handsets as well.
Lastly, I'm not sure how many of the new features that our phones will actually benefit from, aside from the TRIM feature, which can be found in the Lagfix app in the play store. There aren't a great deal of UI changes. The only one that comes to mind is the "elimination method" that you see while dialing a number. Android 4.2 is just as nice as 4.3. But AOSP isn't for me either. I'll stick with what the HTC devs push out.
[/RANT]
In a nutshell, this is how the business works. If you don't care about buying the latest and best, than they don't charge much about you. While I don't agree with it, I don't want to hear whiners who complain about it. Oh well. That's how it feels.

aw damn, beat me to my own post lol, I knew somebody was going to see that and post it on XDA
Saw that earlier on his Twitter feed. I think too many people assumed that since he said we weren't getting 4.3 that we weren't getting updated at all, which isn't the case, at least according to his info.
Is there a clear understanding when htc will get this update. I heard end of september or sometime october, and that the update would be 4.2.2 with sense 5 and that would be the last major update for the phone. P.S. sources say sprint already has the update but, it is under review. I am trying too find the rdf weblink for the phone too see exactly with coming soon too us, but the rdf link i have only shows back when the phone was released.
This is the only link I have too get the latest update rdf info from sprint
