[Q] remove locked bookmarks - Motorola Droid X2

So ive been trying to find a way to delete these locked bookmarks. Every method I've tried points to a file that's not on the phone (/system/etc/motorola/com.android...) Any suggestions?

Been trying to do the same thing with no results.

Found one that worked. Goto the market and install Skyfire. You can edit the bookmarks all you want. Back on the system default browser, the changes will be applied after the app is restarted. Once the pesky Verizon locked down bookmarks are nuked, remove Skyfire. Viola.

Did this, and now browser force closes when opening bookmarks. nice.
Rebooted my whole phone just in case maybe task manager was stupid and didn't kill Browser fully. Nope...
Edit: And actually, now my phone is randomly rebooting every 3 minutes... the ****?

Lol.
Just use a non stock browser like dolphins hd. Problem solved. The stock browser blows anyway.

That's your opinion. Some of us prefer the stock browser.

I really don't want to SBF my phone just because of this stupid stock browser phail, so I'm just going to go ahead and try out a couple of those non-stock browsers and just delete the browser app entirely...
I've tried Dolphin, but not Aurora. First stop, then
edit: Aurora isn't even a browser?

If you delete the stock browser you will have problems with Voice Search and other google apps.
Also Aurora is not for the faint of heart its Firefox's alpha builds.

Oh right, derp, I use that on my computer Wasn't aware it was on mobile though.
Thanks for that, saved me from actually having to SBF. The reboot issue went away after I stopped using the stock Browser.

Personally, I used an app called Bookmarks Manager.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.guenmat.android.bookmarks
I never had an issue after removing them with it, even though I use the stock browser and have other bookmarks.

Use Titanium Backup? I could back up my stock browser for you so you'd be back to its original state.

I don't think it's the apk itself is broken, but it looks for those locked bookmarks when you open the bookmarks tab and when it can't find them, it borks out because of the lack of error handling.
Atleast I think - the bookmarks aren't part of the app so removing them wouldn't break the actual app.

Did you delete all bookmarks that were stored? I did and I had FC when I tried to access the bookmarks. What worked for me was just bookmarking google.com, then trying to access the bookmarks again, and everything was gone except the new google.com bookmark.

That's odd... I haven't seen an FC on the phone after doing the removal. Going in and out of history or bookmarks yet nothing causing any issues.

That may be the root of the problem. I think I read somewhere the stock browser is looking for at least one bookmark.

When I remove the bookmarks, I usually wipe them all out and have none.
Maybe the app messed up the data somehow?

menu -> manage apps -> All (tab) -> Browser -> Clear data.
That should restore your browser back to stock. There is a template it goes by that should also rebuild data with the locked bookmarks intact as well.
I used the skyfire method mentioned in the third post without a hitch. In case it matters, I had two bookmarks of my own already and deleted all of the locked ones.

THIS.
I ran into this problem pretty early on. I deleted all the stock Bookmarks and the browser would just force close every time I opened it. Clearing the Browser app data restored a working browser, and unfortunately the default bookmarks.

Issues with the stock browser

Every single day , my stock web browser loses the sites I had open. For example, I'll have three Windows open, three different websites. I don't use my phone for a while and come back, they are all gone ! Even if I leave it on Yahoo.com it will reset to default which is Google.com, basically it won't just keep the sites I leave it on, it returns to home and its very annoying. Is there anything that can be done??

I had Dolphin on my G2X but it did the same thing, constantly lost the tabs I had open, shut closed on its own losing any pages, etc.. I'll try it again, but that's why I stuck with the stock browser so far.

That's weird cause I've never had a problem with Dolphin.
And I exit back to hitting back or hitting "menu" and then exit.
When I open Dolphin back up all my tabs are still there.
Maybe the internet doesn't like you?

I guess not. Downloaded Dolphin and I just don't like it, so I'll have to deal with the stock browser or find another one. Not sure why it would take those about pages away to save cache?

Wifi browser issues

For some reason my browser won't surf on Wifi. I can surf on 3G but as soon as I switch to Wifi all pages come back and say pages unavailable. I've tried Superclean3 and GeeWiz 2.4.2 and even going all the way back to stock EH03 and it works until my apps start redownloading from Google then it quits.
Anyone else run into this issue? Also is there a way to delete my settings and apps from my Gmail account?

EDIT: I was able to fix the subject.

I've found in some instances I have to exit the browser and reopen it for it to use the wifi.

Yeah that's where I'm leading too but the problem is I would have to remove the backup transport app before signing in. I've not been successful trying to use adb for this as it won't talk to my phone. So I would have to download either Root Explorer or Terminal Emulator from the market. If I go to the market to get them it will start the restore process automatically. The only two ways around it I can see is to make a duplicate of the Rom zip file and remove Transport backup before flashing or create another gmail account.
What would really help is if there's a way to clear the backups from my existing Google account.

It was happening to me on Superclean3 as well. It was something that gets copied down from Google Sync, probably something left over from Froyo. MIUI probably doesn't have the GoogleBackupTransport.apk file which is what downloads the apps after going thru the setup wizard.
Anyway I fixed it by creating a new GMail account to sync to. I rarely gave out my email address I use with my phone so it wasn't hurting anything.

[Q] Importing bookmarks on SGS2?

I took a backup of my bookmarks with BookmarkSB from the Play store. But all of a sudden my phone lost all the bookmarks during a botched upgrade. THe problem is that BookmarkSB might well try to restore them, but when I fire up the browser neither of the bookmarks are there.
Is there any way that I can use the xml file that BookmarkSB made to restore the bookmarks on the phone. At the moment I am simply considering stripping all the stuff out of the xml file and just save the actual adresses and then open them up one by one and then rebookmark.
But that method is just going to take a long time and be rather boring so I was hoping there was another and more speedy method?. But is there?
Looking forward to hearing from someone with some bright ideas
Stock browser? Maybe u can autorestore from google.

you can simply sync your browser with google to backup/restore you bookmarks. did you tried clearing browser cache->restore bookmarks-> reboot?

Do you mean restore through the browser or through the app again?. And I have Google's backup thing enabled but apparently it didn't sync over the bookmarks last time :/. But I guess I could always try again, might have done something wrong.
So simply delete the browser cache/wipe data from the browser and try doing an import/restore again with BookmarkSB?
Look for a recent post last two days re importing bookmarks it has the answer i think .

Help with setting a browser as default

First I know how to clear the defaults in the settings in the apps section. After you do that when you click a link your browsers you have downloaded come up and can select which one you one and check the bottom for default. I have been using Dolphin since I got the phone, but I wanna use ICS browser plus browser. I went to the apps and cleared defaults under Dolphin so now each time I click a link it directs me thru the stock browser without even asking which one I wanna use. I always keep going to the apps the stock browser and clear the cache and clear the default, but after I back out and click a link it takes me right back through the stock browser. I go right back to the settings and its still showing its the default browser even after 10 secs earlier I cleared it. Any suggestions as why this is happening

Browser pop up menu, annoying!

Is there any way to get rid of that annoying menu in the browser that pops up when you are scrolling through a web page? It looks like this:
| Add to | Bookmarks | Saved |
Use Chrome
Sent from my HTC Droid DNA
Chrome is a laggy POS. Also, the chrome beta says it's not compaitable with our phone. The stock browser is pretty smooth but that menu popping up all the time is super annoying.
Well since its a laggy pos then just do a search for browsers on the play store and decide for yourself.
Use the AOSP browser.

Couple questions on the AOSP browser on the DNA, choochoo:
Does this zip replace the DNA's browser, or get installed alongside it? How would you go about going back to stock if you don't like it? And it seems like the stock browser gets all greedy with intents -- youtube, maps, etc. Will regular web links open in the AOSP if launched from another app? And does it reflow text after a zoom?
Okay, I guess that was technically four questions.

It replaces it, I suppose you can copy the stock browser apk and save it for later. As far as app associations, that's controlled in the settings of the phone.
