[Q] Unrooting EVO 4g Need Stocks - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I rooted my EVO a while ago, and have been enjoying the differents ROMs and stuff. My problem is that the camera does not focus very well anymore, and now the LED's stopped working on it. So needless to say, I would like to unroot it before I take it in to the repair shop to let them look at it.
What I need is the stock ROM and also the S-ON tool. I used Unrevoked to flash it, then clockwork is my recovery.
Thanks in advance for any help I may be given.

Bumping this thread. Sorry if it seems impatient.

Here is a guide that you can use.
For future reference, you can use this link and bookmark it if you have questions, comments, concerns related to your EVO phone. Any root/unroot related guides are found in the development section of that thread. Good luck!

I had previously found this thread when I came here. I first did a search to see if my topic had already been discussed. The guide you linked me to, however, has a bad link to the stock ROM, and the S-ON tool says is corrupt when i try to flash it from recovery. That's why I was wondering if anyone had a more current link or something.

Here's the link from shipped-roms.com:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Sup....651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe
And for S-ON/OFF:
You may have to redownload the zip file. What's the file size that you have? When I saved it to my PC, it's showing 220kb.

[Q] Rom manager not working, any simple alternates?

I managed to root my phone and install Rom manager from the marketplace so I could flash a stock 2.2 rom (instead of the 02 one I have)
But I cannot get it to boot into clockwork recovery or install from SD card.
any ideas?

Its 02, I installed Rom manager (previously clockwork mod). I successfully flashed the recovery but when It reboots it doesn't boot into recovery.
Flash THIS Recovery
Or THIS Recovery
And both will let you into recovery but you can only flash a custom rom with those recoverys
If you want to flash THE OFFICIAL 2.2 Then Flash THIS Recovery
Hope that helps
Edit: Ah posted at the same time.. will have a look and report back shortly, thanks!
EDIT 2: Ok, had a look.... how to I flash recovery's? ROM manager has the option to use different recovery greyed out? And there no way im doing that fastboot, takes far too long!
So have you figured out that ROM Manager doesn't work for the Streak?
Hmm... QDL and Fastboot seem to take a little less time than say AT&T OTA
Start Here:
http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=92
What I missed ? Everytimes , I tries to flash a new rom on my Dell Streak , with Rom Manager , when I finished the step " reboot and install " , then my Streak simply rebooted and then no further action taken .
To everyone trying to use ROM Manager on the Streak:
STOP!
ROM Manager has never worked on the Streak and continuing to try to use it will only result in headaches on your part. The only accepted method of flashing a ROM on a Streak is through the Recovery. Speaking of the Recovery, it should NOT be Clockworkmod, because that recovery doesn't work properly with the Streak. Streakmod is the recommended recovery.
Now, had you ROM Manager guys actually searched the forums you would have found this out rather than posting yet another thread on how the app doesn't work.
Next time use the damn search engine on this site. It's not there just to make the site look pretty, and in using it you will in fact be following the site's rules.
Any questions?

you all over the place with this. You are my hero right now.
Sadly the folks will still post without searching.
Quite honestly, I have little enough patience for people as it is. People who seek the "quick fix" and are unwilling to put the time in to learn about their devices are annoying enough. Lazy ass people who can't be bothered to spend the time looking for answers to their questions before posting are a plague. Both deserve to be taken to the back of the tool shed and flogged.
I believe from now on, in addition to calling out people for being total idiots, I'll be reporting the posts as well. Because this bulls**t has got to stop. Searching before posting is the number one site rule on XDA, and it's about damn time it gets enforced. The only way for it to BE enforced is by letting the moderators know about it.

Post #2 is from the moderator, too often these threads get shuffled around and are not closed and/or deleted.
Yeah, I know Lufc moved the thread. He's pretty proactive on that. But unless people report the thread as violating the site rules he really can't do much about it.
I've been pretty lenient in just posting reminders to get the noobs and lazy people among us to actually use the tools that are present on this site. But my patience for that crap is at an end. If someone can't be bothered to use the search tools on this site, expect to be called out on it and the post reported.
EDIT: Looking back at the thread, can someone explain to me just how in the heck you can come upon a thread that details the problem you are having and not at least read the thread before you post to it?
I'm starting to notice a trend. I think that as our phones get older more people are ditching them, selling them, and the new owners are stumbling on XDA.
I know I was a total Android noob when I got my Streak, but had been on XDA for a while, so was well aware of the search function. Not to mention reading the stickies.
I think this is gonna keep getting worse!

I almost cried. Maybe next time I'll post on a forum where someone isn't on their period.

USB Connect to Computer?

Im running ROM Unicornporn (dont ask) and cant connect via usb. Id post on the forum itself, but im a new user and dont have enough posts... So is anybody running it and know how to? Or is anyone willing to ask them, instead of me, since i cant post?
btw, the link the the page is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24626122#post24626122
thanks
I'm not new to rooting but I am new to the website. Couple of questions before I can really help. First the ROM you flashed is a cdma rom but is your phone cdma or GSM? Next question, what hboot are you on? Finally have you downloaded the adb and fastboot drivers to your PC? I'll see if I can help you out if you can get back to me
Did you fully wipe before flashing?
Also, it seems that rom is pretty much in the Alpha stage, meaning things won't work, which is normal.
Ok I think I found a solution to your problem. Go to the main post for your ROM on xda. There is a link near the top that says Check out the comprehensive FAQ by brainfire. Click that link and it will take you to a FAQs website for you ROM. It talks about your USB problem on there. Sorry I can't provide a link. I haven't posted enough yet but I would give it if I could. Hope this helps a bit.

[Q] Newb in need of assistance/direction

OK so after reading and watching and reading some more I thought I could successfully root and then mod my i777 to ICS. Yeah, not so much.
I managed to get the device rooted using some help from GalaxyS2Root.com and using the 2.6.35.7_ZedomaxStockKernel. After that I thought I could install shostock2 however when the install started with CWM it goes for a moment and says "Installation aborted." I tried to do the same with cyanogenmod with the same result. Also wifi won't stay on, but have unrooted and everything goes back to normal.
I searched a great deal for this, but could find nothing. I would love a link to a thread if there is one. Do I need a different kernel? I feel like I followed the directions to a T. I really would like to have ICS and the super user ability, it if wasn't meant to be then that's fine. I can just unroot and wait for official ICS.
Thanks for your patience with my newbness. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated, and I am truly grateful that you guys are here for me to ask.
The links in the sticky at the top of this forum will help you out. Please read all of them carefully before making further modifications to your phone.
You should try to avoid using rooting methods that you don't find on XDA. Go here and grab the stock with root package, and use that to root. After that, download Mobile Odin and use it to install a kernel that includes CWM. Entropy's DD or Siyah will to the trick. After that you should be fine to flash stuff with CWM.
LOL
I still can't believe keep seeing people getting info from that site, GalaxyS2Root.
Stop using that site people.
Thanks!

I'm thinking it has to do with this:
The sticky ATTENTION: AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II General Guide/Walkthrough/FAQ/hints and tips, that EVERYONE is supposed to read when they join XDA, instructs you to read this: How to Easily Root your device. Or watch the video walkthrough.
If you read the info and then decide you want to watch the vid to get another example by sight, something I believe most people would do... I know I did, you will be lead to a thread called ROM's, Kernels, Tools & "How to" I777 SGS2. In this thread the OP made multiple posts in order to separate the information while still giving you everything he believed you would need. In the second post he has a section called "<Tools>" under that it says "For all first timers" and under that it states "Excellent How To Video's".
The first video, credited to zedomax, sends you to the site GalaxyS2Root ...
Then you say that all the information can be found here at XDA ... Well, you are right, that information IS found here on XDA with an external link to "that site".
tl:dr
Not being a **** here just pointing out the reason people are using GalaxyS2Root. A thread started by Red5 (a highly respected member of XDA) includes a link to a thread made by another respcted member of XDA. At this point there is yet another link to another thread that includes the GS2Root link...
You follow the yellow brick road and it leads you to the wizard!
Personally I will only be putting Entropy or Entropy approved rom/kernel/etc. on my GS2 - His work helped me a ton with my old Tilt2.

And this is one of the reasons that shortly after moderator Red5 wrote the new sticky post with the consolodated information in it, I sent him a private message asking him to remove that video from the post, and to also update the OP of the "How to easily Root your device" thread by Jivy26 to include working download links. However, for whatever reason, he chose not to make the changes. I should have pressed the point with him, or our other moderator, but I just let it be.

Huh? I just went back and looked through all my PMs and I have no PM from you. However, I will fix whats needs to be corrected.
Edit: Video walkthrough link removed. As far as the links in the OP from Jivy, are those links not working? Are there other links that are that need to replace the ones in the OP?
Edit 2: Nevermind, I see in the last post you reference to your signature and there you have a post with two working links for rooted KH7 Odin3 packages. Ill replace Jivy's links with yours. Thanks. I also gave you credit in Jivy's post under #3.

@Red5
Thanks for updating both your post and Jivy's post. Here are a couple of suggestions on the links in the "how to easily root" OP:
The items 1 through 4 are the same as and were copied from items 2a through 2d in the Guide "How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash counter!!" The links in the Guide are all working as far as I know.
First, the only exception to this is that I can not get any MultiUpload link to work. They just seem to display a blank page in the browser. I don't know if they ever work sometimes or not. This means Entropy512's original thread for the rooting packages, which is linked to in item 4 has unusable links. I just added an additional link in my guide in item 2d to direct people to the download repository for alternative links. "...or if you have difficulty with the links in his thread, there are alternative links for all his files in the Download Repository toward the bottom."
In item 2, you left the MultiUpload link, but you could change it to this one which is in the Guide - "Download "SuperOneClick v2.3.1 - Automatic Driver Installation" from DepositFiles (or look for links here) and extract it to a directory on your hard drive using WinZip or a similar program".
In item 3, you included links for both the unrooted and rooted packages, but this would be confusing to new users since it is a guide on how to easily root. I think you should remove the non-rooted link.

i too made the mistake of following to galaxy s 2 root.com he said that the zedomax for the i9100 would work on my att version. which of course it didn't. please excuse my lack of knowledge as i have previously let others root my device. with the help of the brilliant minds here i was able to get back stock uckk6+root under build number, thanks again everyone, i bow to you. but still showing uckh7 in broadband version. is this an issue other than warranty and when device powers up? if so, not a big deal for me. but i am concerned that it will cause me issues with flashing roms for my I777. i have read for hours but some of this is over my head. PLEASE help! the other issue i have is that the graphics have gone to crap. i mean aweful. if i flash another rom will that fix it or is there something else i need to do? thanks again.

Baseband version is the modem version. Has nothing to do with your firmware version and has no bearing on roms or warranty.

Just got HTC one X+

Please dont be mad, im a noob. Link the easiest way to install custom rom on this device. I bought this phone in Norway so i guess its the international version. Are there supernexus 4.2.2 for this phone? Can I get EVERYTHING back to stock if something failes and I have to send it in to repair? What happened with my s2 was that powerbutton failed so I could not flash any other kernel or rom. I suck at rooting etc on android, because I think when I was jailbreaking my iphone back in the 3gs days, you could always get it to factory settings with plugging it to pc and do restore. Can I do this to this phone with a toolbox or something? Please post here I have to go now, will check this thread later.
Understanding everything and browsing this site is very hard to me, please understand. I have apex launcher so it looks like stock jellybean but its not so smooth as I want it to, so I think i have to install a custom rom. It must be stable and easy!
I'd love to help but you need to learn the forum rules before you start posting topics. Why don't you check out a few of the sticky threads first and you'll probably learn some new things about when and where to post these questions and heck you might even get many of your questions answered haha.
right first thing to do is read up on these forums on rooting then once you have completed that read again The golden rule to remember is NEVER wipe your DATA from recovery! other than that you should be safe :victory:
use this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995002 which as support for sideloading should you get into trouble.
I'm sorry, but I don't understand why you guys that are here and have full control can't link me a thread or something where this is discussed, and then I can post questions there. This place is so advanced so it's hard for us noobs to come in to the scene. I'm good to follow step by step guides and thats it Before I have followed guides on youtube because noone here could give me an answer, but I want to learn a little on how to probably do this because I'm scared to **** up my phone so I cant get it to stock again. I dont care if a rom fails or something, but i always want to come back to stock if you know!

edit: oh and please someone answer me this. If im gonna root-kernel-rom, what is the best way to backup so I can get back to the OS and kernel I have? I dont care about photos apps and sms, just want to go back to software if it fails.
is firmware the same as kernel?
Something is missing in your formula root-(Flash Recovery)-kernel-rom. And in the new Recovery you can do a backup and only there. You can go either for TWRP or CWM recovery.
And if future, if you say "Thanks", better hit a Thanks button under post than write it your reply
