Aye, CM5 is most definitely rootable (used torpedo)... my P4G is set up that way right now.

Im a noob but not to rooting i have tried every method possible still no luck.some 1 bought this phone from over seas (i am in Jamaica) it is running on gsm mode i cant even see what prl im on wen i go into setting about phone.i think if it was activated then i wouldn't have all these prob.the phone was his personal device when he sold me he call and canceled it. So i am at a loss rite know because he cant ask for msl code for a phone he reported lost

as ive said before. If you are having problems rooting or think its not working try to put your phone in charge only mode under usb. Bet that will fix it for you.

thanks mate

1. Go to Settings/Application/development menu and make sure that USB debugging is checked
2. Open Notification screen by swipe down from the top of the screen, you should see USB connection. Choose that and make sure choose "Charge Only" and click OK
3. Download Superuser from Market and install it on your phone.
4. go to Settings/Display/Screen Timeout and choose never
5. Download drivers, ADB packages, Root files from the link below and extract them to your C drive under Root directory (C:\Root). Then just follow the direction of the link below to root your phone.
http://briefmobile.com/how-to-root-motorola-photon-4g
If you follow the direction correctly, If i remember correctly at the last step your phone Superuser application should popup and ask you to allow the root process to access root. Click OK then you are root

My vibrant's screen is cracked and I'm suppose to get a new one in the mail within the next few days so reading the screen is troublesome at times...and I don't have a computer so things are even worse lol
Anyways..I was going that someone could lead me in the right direction on ways I can root my vibrant without using a computer atall.I did find a one click root but it doesn't do anything for
Thanks in advance for any help you can give so I can get this working on my broken one first

I dont know if you mean you tried the one click lag fix from market when you say "one click root".
Anyways, if you dont have a hardware locked vibrant, download one click lag fix (or oclf) from market and click root phone. Just boot into recovery and hit reinstall packages and you should have your phone rooted.
Just download the update.zip file using your phone.
Use an app like astro to rename it and place on the root of the internal.
Go into stock recovery and flash.
Reboot
You are rooted.
All of this is in my signature.

[Help] i can't get root...

ok. ive used the one click root... ive used the script root method... downloaded the correct files. but i can't seem to get root.... both methods says i have root and its good to go but no superuser icon and i even tried using the one on the market just incase i need to... nothing still and ive tried over hours and hours... i don't know what else to do... anyone?

i didn't do the one click root, but, in the long root version, and I am sure it is the same, you need to install SU from the market, and then if you do not get SU access right away, reboot the phone a couple times.
If you turn your phone off, and then back on while holding vol down and power, does it say MECH S-OFF at the top? If it still says S-ON or security warning, you didn't root your phone right, if it says S-OFF your rooted, and you just need to get SU working by rebooting a few times.

Hope that works for them. I wonder if fastboot, where it doesnt shut the phone down 100% and suspends the phone in memory, could be an issue or no?

ill redo it and do this. thx
the only problems root wise i ran into (and i did it the adb way) was super user wouldnt initially give rights. I solved this each and everytime by one reboot. (clockwork i didnt have rights) restarted phone superuser came up with the box for me to give cw rights. Then i installed Tit backup form the market. No rights again, a restart and problem solved. Dont know why it was buggy but try that.
is it normal to see. usb device not recognized? while its on the hboot loading the update through? it only says that while its updating the hboot or loading the PG05IMG.zip. otherwise i have all the right drivers for it.
update.... still not luck. i used the script root... at the end i have s-on.... on the first downgrade i have s-off but at the very end of the script to add the other update ppg05img, it turns the s-on back... sooooo whats wrong with it or what am i doing wrong?
if your having that many issues with the quick root method (ill be honest I havent looked at the instructions for it) i really would suggest doing it manually (the method that was first released). I wanted to post the links for you but i dont have enough posts yet to do so. The instructions i used are on droid-life . com. Once your there go to search and type in thunderbolt root. Another one click root method will be the first topic. Go there and youll see two hyperlinks (here) and (here) in the first paragraph.Click the second one and youll see the list of instructions and a link to a video, showing you how to do it. The original video is very fast but once it starts playing it will give you step one and step two links. This video is very helpful and very detailed. Anyway hope that helps.
Any questions leave a post.

yes you will still get ota updates
i wouldnt recommend you trying the gingerbread stuff without doing A LOT of reading first, id just wait for it to arrive ota personally rather than risk messing your phone up again

[Q] Difficutly acquiring root

i've tried the root method for the sticky in the dev. section. One click user just stalls out at step 5 it seems. Elsewise .... how long is step 5 supposed to take? All i have to show for my efforts so far is the old boottriangle. I came from an Epic Touch 4g (which i had no problems rooting). Any helpful suggestions?
Thanks in advance

When it stalls and freezes unplug USB then go into settings uncheck then check USB debugging then plug USB back in. It will finish up the process.

Use superOneClick again and after it stalls out on step 6
simply unplug usb cable from computer for a couple seconds
then plug in back in and bingo you are good to go!
If that doesn't work just download this file and flash in cwm

.apk files are not going to be recognized by Odin. .tar files are recognized by it. If you don't have root but have flashed codeworkx kernel then close Odin download this to your phone hereand flash in cwm
Apk is an application much like .exe in windows
rev. *.tar i think i need to begin with a proper version of odin (which i can't seem to find.) By the way, i can't boot into recovery. had that been the case, i'd already been nandroiding and running CM7
Odin does not see the su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip

ok, i'm a little confused where you are right now with all this, so I'm going to start over.
1) flash this kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823) but skip the step that roots via superoneclick
2) flash this CWM file to acquire root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286220)
enjoy.

Wait, you flashed my pre-rooted system image tar?
Then there is no need to use SuperOneClick or the CWM kernel - you should be rooted already.
Also, if you flash my kernel instead of the CWM one, it will automatically root you on the first boot.
Thank you guys I certainly appreciate the help. I look forward to flashing root / cm7! Afterall, aside from service, the main reason I switched from Epic Touch 4G.

you should "cd.." to top level, C:\, the "cd C:\users\...\motounlock"
Once the Command prompt changes to show you are in the motounlock directory...
Try "fastboot devices"
to see if your device is being seen. If is is not keep playing with the steps and give it time.

now in the Proper Recovery: step
before all i need to power on the phone within i press volume down and after that plugg in the phone ?
Yes, now boot phone with volume down key pressed until you see "Fastboot", the click up volume to start fastboot mode. Then connect devices and give it a few seconds to connect. To check that it is connected and your computer is seeing the device: "moto-fastboot.exe devices". This will show something like "Ty987907", then you know it is properly connected and you can continue to work through the steps.

I'm using epinter's CM10 ROM. Battery life is good, at least as good as stock if not a little better. However, camera and video are not very good in CM9 and CM10 ROM's. This is not a problem for me. If you want fully working hardware stick with CM7 ROM's. As far as which CM7 ROM is best, I have no idea.

Without having root, you can't get to system files, so you won't be able to delete the file. I don't know what effect that will have, probably nothing to worry about. Not sure how you could flash a ROM without already having rooted your phone... but I am no expert. No reason not to root you phone at this point you've voided any warranty by unlocking the bootloader.

i dont have warrntey.. you said that i must rooted my phone to chenged costmos roms ?
To the best of my knowledge you need root to install a custom ROM. But, I am not an expert, or even very experienced. Personally, I would rather take the extra step to root prior to installing a new ROM rather than skip the step and wind up with a mess, or worse, a bricked phone. Until I know better I'm going to follow other's instructions, not adding, not subtracting. Seems the most likely way to be successful.

Personally, I would rather take the extra step to root prior to installing a new ROM rather than skip the step and wind up with a mess, or worse, a bricked phone. Until I know better I'm going to follow other's instructions, not adding, not subtracting. Seems the most likely way to be successful.

The thread you found the bootloader unlock instructions starts out with rooting instructions. Tayshun12 starts off by saying he has GB 2.3.4 installed, so this method should work for you. I started with a US AT&T phone with 2.36, so I used a slightly different method. When in doubt, Google is your best friend
