2.4.19 official software - Gen8 Android Development

New firmware is out.
Here is changelog:
http://update.archos.com/8/gen8/changes_firmware_archos_android_gen8.htm
It says there is a fix for skype video and some other annoying glitches, would be nice though I'll wait for permanent rw version.
edit:
That was fast :-D

Is this gingerbread?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

No, 2.4.19 is the Firmware version, not the Android version.

Nop, it's Froyo ^^

Have you found it has slowed you archos down as i updated the other day and now it's really slow even after a factory reset
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

@98bishopmal so if you factory reset and install a previous firmware it will speed up again?

Yes that's right I have the archos 70 IT I'm looking to put Ubuntu on there as i think I will run better running Linux
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

I think the 2.4.19 build also has battery display bugs. It "never"charges to 100%, but in reality it does (but not according to any battery widget app,,,,, it stops st 90%). Battery life also took a hit from 2.38. Device also sometimes need a hard reset after USB debugging. Still,l less compatibility issues than a Xoom!
Sent from my MotoMB511 using xda premium

I also happen to think the tegra2/honeycomb 3.2 combo is overrated as hell. Buggy, memory leaching, actually more complicated than 2.2/2.3...i love the Xoom, but 3.2 actually hobbles it. Cant wait to try the g9 tho. Maybe omap4 will help solve some problems.
Sent from my MotoMB511 using xda premium

Heheh, Archos has updated the g8 firmware far more times in comparison to honeycomb. Minor issues ahoy, but least the French give a damn!

Did you know that a forum is not like twitter, and that you can edit your postings?

Why yes, I do know the difference.Just trying to keep the thread active, felt they were separate points, and is scrolling down really that taxing? No need for that.
Sent from my MotoMB511 using xda premium

anybody know what firmware the archos-arnova g2 series uses? They run Gingerbread but seem to have similar hardware to the g8s. They may contain Rockchip rk2918 chipsets (unspecified) , is it really more powerful than the g8 arm7v a8? Even the 7cg2, which runs Gingerbread, uses a qualcomm msm7227 with unknown RAM. Shouldn't it be an easy port over?

Need For Speed Shift released

This has just been released for "all android versions" for $4.99. Has anyone tried it on a Legend to see how/if it runs?
Curious too , but I doubt it would , many 3d games do not work on the Legend

i played NFS Shift one week - all fine Very fast and smooth. Nice perfomance. I like this game
Well , that's good to know(;
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
Sometimes it lags for 2-3 seconds but overall it's a decent game. I think you'll need to overclock a little the phone's cpu for better performance, even with froyo.
Well , I'm on the official froyo now , to overclock I have to downgrade and root right ? Or is there an easier way to do it (overclock)
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
I'm using it for a couple of months now. it's very useful, with overclock it's exelent.

What version did you play? I installed ver 1.0.56 and received a notice :" NFS SHIFF do not authorized for your android device "

On Cm 6.1, It seems to crash right after the logo, goes black for a bit then goes back to homescreen
Does it work for anybody on 6.1?

Not working for me...
I spent over an hour downloading the data, because of download interrupting from time to time (it said it should be 150Mb, but the download was 96Mb - and yes I have a very slow connection). Then, when the game starts, it tells me Checking for update, then shows the EA logo, then the screen goes black, and dumps me back to the homescreen.
Is it a problem with the download?
I am running a rooted version of the Vodafone FroYo ROM.
Should I overclock? If yes, how?
Oh... and I cannot find the data file on my SD card... what's it called? And where is it stored?
And I cannot refund now, since the 15min window has passed a long time ago.
Just checked: I am running 1.0.56 version... If the 1.0.4 is working, how can I "downgrade" to it?
i'm using 1.0.4. version.
:O That's great^^ I want it

[Q] Rom for running Webtop

Hey,
I'm currently running Nottachtrix and there are a few little bugs, nothing major but irritating. I hear there is not going to be much in the way of dev work anymore.
Any other recommendations? Or is it live with the issues / go back to stock.
I use the web top pretty much every day.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I'm almost positive that you need to go the stock (AKA Fruitcake) route...
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Hmm, ok I'll check it out.
Any way to get a cm9 build working with the gentoo webtopesk thing?

Simple and to the point...
One issue with Fruitcake, only AT&T builds listed no international builds.
Back on kitchen skink cm9 and tinkering with the HDMI mirroring to get a usable lapdock.
Cm9 is much snappier than this. Was good to try the moto webtop, but onwards to better things.

You said you were "tinkering." What kind of results are you getting? Resolution on the lapdock correct? Can you post some screenshots?
Thanks!
I have put Ubuntu on my Atrix running Jokersax CM9, works ok just need to fine tune the screen size, worth a try!

i'll have a mess around with it to see what works
Please post back the results. My Linux skills are some what rusty but I'm keep to get back into it.
Did you install to internal SD or external SD?

I have contacted the developer and it answered me: "You should beable to use the lapdock keyboard and mouse yes but anything more than that I am not sure as I do not have a device to try it on". We have to try it.

Anybody else hear about Ubuntu for Android?

This is probably old news but I just recently saw this on the Ubuntu website. Looks pretty freaking sweet! Still in development tho.

There's actually a phone made by Fujitsu that's similar in that it can be booted into the full desktop windows 7 32 bit by the switch of a button. The downside I see to it is that when you are running it the phones radio is turned off so you can't receive calls or texts also the phone UI is some proprietary Fujitsu software. Needless to say it looks pretty lame compared to Android but nevertheless it's still pretty awesome looking. Here's a few links if you guy's wanna check it out.

Would like to point out while Ubuntu are working on it, there are already a range of projects to get it running on your device (see my sig) my project is on of the more active projects, really the only big thing missing that they have working is native graphics (right now my project uses a vnc server within ubuntu to view gui within android).
Mine works on a whole host of devices (not just dual core like ubuntu project) and you can also install debian or backtrack if you wish.
We are in the process of adding more options to the app and making it far more user friendly (Although it is already pretty fool proof)
I love ubuntu on my pc. I would love it on my phone.

Im excited for the fact you can take you computer with you. simply dock it them WALLA you get a working desktop environment. i have reservations on it using Google docs though, i tried, but never can really use Google docs the way i use my other office programs, just doesn't have the flexibility.
But im excited! I've alread click their link on their page.
Also, with the advent of ICS tgeb JB they need to kick it into gear or how else they going to keep up with the upgrades?

If you can virtualize another distribution within it, you basically have Linux within Linux within Linux.

That is a whole nother ballgame, ubuntu touch is a pain. Lol
I've given up on working on it for now, as i really need my phone to be working 110% all the time, so im back to stock....with a handful of modifications ofc.
Using th3bills cm10.1 i was trying to just port it over without having to.build like they say in the porting guide, and no luck outside of a loop. User error really. Its best left to the trusted devs, etc round here.
Our phones can handle it great, and then some, BUT, as with anything over the stock gb, without drivers things dont work as they should. Ubuntu touch is really frikkin awesome to look st, but even if someone ports it, it is only a preview an 90% of the features wont work or are just placeholders. Id let it sit a while, not worth a damn atm. But it does give you a taste of the ui. Which, is tough getting used to as it is very gesture oriented as apposed to click here scroll here that we do on android.
-Cheers- Signed,

Thanks for share sir .. i though anyone haven't try it yet .. i follow the ubuntu touch forum every day hope that some of our great dev will port it. But i still wait it until happen.. i hope

If I can find some free time in my super-busy college schedule, I'd like to try my hand at porting it for us. Not just because it would be awesome to have it, but because I'd like to eventually do some app development for it (and it looks like a badass OS for a phone).
Can I put Ubuntu on my Photon even with 2.3.5?
I think you have to unlock the bootloader first.

Unfortunately not. Ubuntu requires it to be unlocked. (ubuntu ATM is highly reliant on cm10 still, so if you can't run cm10,which 2.3.5 can't)
Your stuck between a rock and a hard place

What is the point? We need a decent kernel that can actually support our phone. Atrix 4G succeeded, and all development has halted here. This phone seems pretty much done. Very disappointing.

I'm pretty sure this is relatively well known, and we have no use for it as GB is fully functional, and ICS/JB works without camcorder or HWA.
Think he probably means the graphic issues also due to not having the drivers we need

On GB or ICS/JB? On neither do I see issues.
I meant on the custom roms

Gb roms are very well built. We don't have them for ics / jb because they were never given to us.
Also do you need a proof reader, or an editor? Sorry my first instinct is to make it a point not to click through any link immediately when I read the word "surce"
