Default SK17i dialer - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Is it just me does anyone here feels that the build in dialer program for SK17i is very basic? I mean I cant do a T9 search to dial a contact directly from the number pad but have to go to the contact tab?
is there anyway to improve this in the new kernel?
thanks

Yes the dialer sucks Another kernel cant fix that, you need a new rom for such an new function to be enhanced. Or easier, install some other dialer. I installed Go Contacts EX instead - give it a try.

Streakdroid 2.3 phone.apk >160 fixed !!

For all you people who want to have a working phone.apk with high dpi, I managed a "mixed" apk that works fine with higher dpi then stock 160.
I discovered the problem was caused by "png"s of "drawable-hdpi-finger" directory.
I replaced the 2.3's phone.apk with simplestreak 1.3 ones, and all works fine....
Here you are the flashable zip....
Don't forget "thanks" button...

Hey MAX thanks a lot, would give it a shot once at home, however just wanted to know if this phone.apk fixes the MMI(USSD) code issue as well??

Simplestreak is based on 354, phone.apk is the same...
In fact I used simplestreak png for 2.3 version, like mentioned in my post
Is the MMI(USSD) code issue fix with this phone.apk? Thaking you in advance and looking forward to your replay.

Of what? This is not a theme. It only allows you to use higher resolution and not have the phone screen get crazy.
I hope this is correct.

No. This is for Gingerbread. You want dialer for Froyo.

simplestreak 1.2, baseband 351, 220DPI
with 220 DPI setting the phone.apk in landscape isn't displayed well, how can I fix it?
anyway, I would change the phone.apk 'cause I don't use it, but after a missing call it appears, how can I do?
thanks
update: I've installed the deodexed simplestreak 1.2, so I can change easily the phone.apk, so how can I change it with gocontacts (i.e. godialer)?

You install go contacts ex, replace shortcuts on your homescreen with the ones for go dialer, go contacts, clear the cache of the dialer and the contacts app, and you should have a dialer replacement, its not perfect, but at this time its better than the stock one at 240dpi.

OK so when you hang up, it shows old dialer, so, install no call log classic
Set it up to go back to the Go Contacts EX dialer, Contacts list or the home screen, and thats your dialer sorted.
Another dialer that works well is RocketDial. It can do this on its own, there is an option in its settings to choose the action when a call ends.
LCD Density 220
I was able to change the density to 220 without any crashes and FC after flashing the phone.apk attached in this thread but noticed that there is a rapid drain in battery after adjusting the screen density. i am using stock battery by the way...
May I ask how you could fix the error regarding FC when having a lower LCD density?
I'm trying to get a working Phone.apk from AOKP source, so I can fix the "slider to answer the call is off the screen" issue.

[Q] custom in-call dial pad/screen phone.apk

any themer out there that is working on a better looking in-call dial pad or screen. Which is part of the phone.apk
I know there are punch of "dialers" out in the market, but they only change the looks of default contact.apk. What I am looking for is the dial pad screen or the in-call screen replacement once you are already on an established phone call.
There are ICS dialers out there, they look great.
Theme with speed dial
Sorry a bit off topic but I didn't want to start a new thread. I like cm7 and miui but sorely miss speed dial. I agree that add on dialers just aren't as slick as the stock ones. I've read that some cm7/miui themes have speed dial. I've tried Honeycomb that was said to have speed dial but I could not get it to work. Is there indeed any way, with or without a theme, to have speed dial with these roms?

You are missing the OP's point.
Even with the ICS dialer (or any others I have seen for the sgsII) you only see the themed dialer when initiating a call (that uses contacts.apk). The OP was asking about *in-call* dial pad which comes from phone.apk.
Not only that but the stock in-call dial pad doesn't scale with alternate DPI's, so it looks even worse if you are not running 240 screen density.

CM7 Dialer App alternatives?

Well,I recently upgraded to CM7 GingerDX v.22 and the dialer app used is
the WyContacts Froyo MOD v 1.2 (You can see that in the About section).
The app itself is named phone.app.
So,my question is : Are there any alternatives to this one?
N.
I would say Go Dialer or exDialer as a alternative.
For alternate stock phone.apk, maybe se dialer.
Hit the THANKS button if I helped!!

The dealer is fine. You dont really a new one!
I use exDialer now. but it got some prob in 2.3+ which it cant clear notification. there's a solution, but I'm lazy to find it. exDialer is the best for me.
If ur not happy with the dialer looks, then install a cm7 theme such as ics by Achep which themes the dialer too. tbh i dont think u need tonchange the dialer other than that, as it contains all the appropriate features and is not heavy.
+1 for sparks answer,
And You can use cm9 diler, it's same as the cm7 but it has T9 dialer.
From the market in my opinion best app is dwcontacts.
It's highly customizable (even too much , sometimes it's really hard to find some options) and it looks very nice.
Well, thank you all for your answers and suggestions!
The reason I m researching this is that sometimes it lags a lot in my phone.
Anyway,I ll download some or the apps you mention and report back!
N.
Here is my sugestion, you can extract from other ROM, like mine, xgin v6.1 using dialer gingercruzt 8.2.
You can do it by your self.
Extract it from other ROM.
Look for name phone.apk in the system/app folder
Copy it to the phone.
In the "system/app" folder
Set permission phone.apk as rw.r.r
Good luck.

what do you mean by t9 dialer? I'm using one that was posted in the GingerDX thread. It's wycontacts but you can dial by typing the name of the person you want to call, so if you want to call "mom" you type 666 (lol) and it shows a list with the contacts that match those letters.

T9 is exactly what You Explained in Your post.
CM9 Dialer that i mentioned is now default dialer in minicm7 rom.
cool! gonna try it!
Hmm, can't run it on microcm (stock kernel), could the kernel be the cause of it not working?

I just got it and thinking of trying it!

try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20735429&postcount=531
p.s. it was my mistake, it's not cm9 dialer, it's just cm7 dialer with T9.

Replacing Icons ?

Hello all,
I am running Check Rom V6 right now. I have 5 icons, dialer, contacts, messaging, home, and apps. I was wondering if someone could guide me on how to use these icons. They are all in a .png format. Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks

What launcher are you using? Most allow you to replace icons with ones of your choosing, you'll just have to put them on your sdcard.
If you're wanting to theme icons at the system level, or your launcher doesn't allow you to select a custom icon, then you'll have to modify apks.

Send me the icons and I'll make a flashable .zip for you that will change them, hassle free ( plus a recovery one so you can revert them if you don't like them ).
It's 2 minutes of work
Edit : I figure you want to change them while using Touchwiz, because replacement launchers do it easily anyway
Thank You Sir!!!!

tested on my phone and works like a charm
Now I just need to wait till my CheckROM v6 finishes downloading so I can make a restore zip for you.
I'm not sure what the default icons are in new version and I need it anyway
Check this post later on. Post a screenshot when you flash it

Not strictly true - although it is an app drawer replacement.
Can change icons and names with this, my favourite ever app ever of all time ever.
As I've posted before, if there's an easier way to edit icons/text and retain functionality, I have yet to find it.
Especially because I couldn't modify an apk if my life was at stake...

[Q] Westcrip Resurrection Remix 1.7 Question

Hi there,
I am using thhis thread since I cannot post in development section due to having to little posts still I would have a query about that ROM I cannot find an answer using search function.
So far I used to use Westcrips Resurrection ROM 1.0, now i updated with Version 1.7 and I had to see that the option in the top panel to toogle lotsa different things like e.g. Screen time and stuff isn´t available any more, but only the 4 standard toggles (BT, WIFI, DATA, Sound) and screen contrast...
Now I remember there had been an app that was administering all those toogles in 1.0 - does anyone know how it´s called or how I can have that toggles on 1.7 as well?
Second 1.7 obviously doesn´t show the battery in 1 percentage intervalls, not even the numbers but only a battery sign. Does anyone know how to fix that?
Thx
go to: menu, system settings, rom control, scroll down to toggles. there you can select 12 toggles.
secondly the battery icon etc. you can change in: menu, systemsettings, rom control, scroll down to battery. there you can change a lot about baterrystuff.
greetings
thx a lot.
what about swype? That seems to be gone?

Westcrip changed the base of the rom to aokp that's why you see the different changes.
To get swype back go beta.swype.com and register and download the apk.

Search through the development thread .. there is a thread that is solely for.missing Samsung apps that includes the default swype with all the languages.
Download that, flash via cwm and you should get all missing apps.
