Average battery life? - HTC EVO 3D

In terms of screen time I'm only getting around 2.5 hours on 30% brightness. I hardly use data, have background data turned off, no overclock. And this is on a full charge
Oh and I'm on the virtuous ROM for gsm evos.
Also I've been using CPU spy and I am getting around 88% of the time deep sleep.
Possibly a defective battery? :/

if only 2.5 hours then yeh definfinately might be a bad battery
i was only getting around 5 hours max on my stock battery and only solved my issue by getting an extended batttery(yeh it makes your phone big and stuff blah blah but it lasts me about 23hours now)
im not sure how to check for a bad battery
i would try to borrow a friend's battery if you have access to that

Hmmm thanks. Anyone else have this case? Is there a way you're supposed to charge it on the first time?

use overclocking....and a good kernel
i am using cleanROM 1.3 with silverneedle kernel. my phone says 1d 6h 26s on battery and battery is at 45 percent. data is on and i did pandora for about an hour last night. overclocking also sets your clock rate DOWN when your phone isn't doing anything. i tried cleanROM 2.0 and noticed an immediate increase in battery use, so i switched back to 1.3. gonna stick with a day and a half per battery charge and a quadrant score of 2600...... not the best but WAY better than stock and killer battery life

1d 6h, plus 45% left?
you really must not use your phone, like at all
using the phone requires the screen to be on (normally),and screen will not stay on for a day. It can sleep for a couple days though yeah

I'm also getting about 2.5 hours of screen-on time with a full charge on a completely stock evo 3d, not rooted, no s-off, no custom rom...

If I'm on wifi all day(and I mean 100%), I usually get 4 hrs of display time. If I'm just on the network, I get around 5 hrs. I'm rooted but I'm running the stock odexed ota.
Sent from my rockin 3D

Try this, the virtuous version. It will help with the battery life. But you need to be rooted and it should work fine on gsm.

Does he really have to? look at the little blue bar under the graph, it shows the phone was "awake" for quiet a bit of the time, BUT, he did charge it, the little green bars show when it is charging... PLUS, you can see where the graph actually raises, batteries don't/won't charge themselves. I had a friend do some trickery with an inductive charger, the phone wont see its charging, so it reports no charging, but PLENTY of battery, lol...

All that really means is that the phone is in constant use with the display on...not sleeping. I get that all the time when I'm using my phone pretty much from fully charged to almost 0%. Nothing out of the ordinary
Edit: that almost completely solid blue line under the graph shows how long the device has been awake.

Battery Life?

Now that the phone has been had a few days, what kind of battery life are you guys getting? Is it better than the Evo 4g at least?
A weeks time bro, but I'll comment. Out of 15 hours I am getting six hours of moderate to heavy use with 15% left... This phone's battery is looking promising.
Like I said though, we'll need a week before we all reach a consensus.

I used mine in a poor reception building for a 9 hour work shift, texting constantly and taking 3d photos for novelty of random stuff. I left with 55%. The key is using data only when you want to. I turned off auto sync and only used data sparingly, since I didn't need it on all the time.
Right now I got about 7 hours. Not happy but ill give it a few more charges.
Also I did not accept any ota so that's one problem.

14 hours off battery as of right now after a full (green light!!!) charge. sent about 120 texts, made a half dozen phone calls, and just below 60%. WiFi/Bluetooth on ALL day, and connected to WiFi all day. Even downloaded the OTA fix for HTC Watch.
The battery is AMAZING, and this is stock. The reviewers were full of ****. Although I believe the latest OTA fixed a sync issue, so that was probably causing unnecessary battery drain.
I repeat, the battery life is great.
if this is true... and im sure screenshots will b posted shortly, think of what this will be like on CM7 running custom kernels.........
Amazing battery life for me - better than 0G Evo, and far better than Epic 4G - though I did constantly charge that battery to oblivion. Looking promising!

A couple of things I've noticed right away.
1. CurrentWidget is inaccurate.
2. The upper limit on voltage during the charge scares me. On the EVO with an SBC kernel, we were always worried about going much about 4210 mV. On this EVO 3D, I noticed a 4275 right away. Seems to me that at 4300, it's all over, right?
3. I did not notice the precipitous drop from 100-90 or so that occured after taking the EVO 4G off the charger.
2 hours 27 minutes from full charge to "connect your charger" with everything turned on and video playing. About five minutes after plugging in video playback stopped and another message popped up stating that charging rate wasn't sufficient for current power usage. I wasn't using the included charger though.
Battery meter is flaky though. Reading 99% most of the time while charging and green light indicating full charge didn't come on 'til several minutes after battery status read full.

It stays on Wifi whenever I am at home then I switch to 3G when I leave. Brightness is set to Auto. I never turn on GPS, (that's what my Garmin's for) and everything sync's normally. It's weird, some days I'll get this kind of battery life and somedays I'll get a lot less. Even with similar usage from day to day.
I get about two days of use with everything on. (No gps or bluetooth) Facebook sync on, texting, web browsing xda app, and a couple short games. I don't ever have any battery left though..
If I stay home I have closed to 60% left after 18-20 hours of regular usage----a few calls, browsing, games and texts----but I have wifi and an airave

Simple. Take a screen shot of screen on time. Who cares how long your battery lasts, if you don't have alot of screen on time.

I'm not completely sure about this, but here is what I remember reading:
That was only useful on other phones when it would display 100% when really the battery was 90%. Doing this charged it to the maximum battery capacity. The Evo 3D stops at 100% when the battery is actually full so we don't need to do anything.
I think this phone does not register being plugged into the computer as being "plugged in." Therefore it does not reset the meter, and you get readings like this, even though there was some (computer-connected) charging in between.

Why is my battery so crappy?

Tried couple of different roms kernel combos and even when I remove sim card and using only WiFi I can see the battery percentage drop by the minute. If screen on its when battery really suffer. I already changed battery and still same ****
What can I do or try ... Must of the time I use a g nex but I like the rezound camera better and of course beats audio battery last ne around 4-5 hours. Ridiculous.

I never used the stock battery.
There is plenty of conflicting information about battery stats, but I've found bump charging and clearing battery stats to be helpful on other phones, even if that's just a perception thing.

I have crappy battery life on stock with minimal use, bought the extended battery and it was much better. Only issue.. i bought an otterbox defender lol.. so had to go back to stock so just frequent recharging.
I think the answer is because the battery just sucks. Its way undersized for this phone. It's hard to get a real handle on it though because everyone thinks of their usage has normal or heavy, so the accounts you read are tottaly irrelevant to how you use it.
I normally am screen on and 3G for 45-60 each morning for some news and slacking before getting to work. That will eat half my battery, which is completely unacceptable IMO. On a weekend when I pick it up a couple times an hour for a this or that, I still only get like 10-12 hours.
Our only hope is that the next phone that takes the place of the rezound has a higher capacity battery that will work for us like the deal with the thunderbolt. Otherwise, ill continue to haul around adapters and my New Trent battery whenever I'm going to be away from home for more than a few hours.

Run my screen that low constantly unless I'm in the bright sun. Auto is a battery killer. Have no desire to use an extended battery. If they started using fixed batteries they would be driving away a lot of customers. Motorola is the last manufacturer anyone needs to emulate!

really? I am intrigued by the razr maxx simply because of the 3300mah battery. Not to mention, everyone raves about the new software moto phones have that allow you to set profiles.
I just don't like the pentile screens.
And I don't think a 3300mah battery would drive away many people. That battery would last 99% of the smartphone users over 24 hours.
The 3300 mah sounds great. The fact of not being removable is a modder's nightmare. Moto's encrypted bootloaders and god awful motoblur are major turn offs. Not to mention that all their handsets since the DX have a terrible feel.
The extended battery is nice, but I only use it when I know I'll need it because it destroys the contours of the device and makes it even more of a brick than it already is.

That made me laugh, that's like having a gorgeous car but never taking it out of the garage. You have a beautiful screen but at a brightness that low you can't appreciate it. With the extended battery I leave mine at full brightness or 75%, with the standard battery I keep it 60% or less.

Hey all,
Didn't notice if there was one of these where everyone could post screenshots of their battery usage for the new Evo. I'm thinking we should have a central location to discuss this. Attached are my recent stats and I'm wondering if this is considered good battery life or if something is up with my phone. Mods, if one of these exists, please close and post link.

Seems low I haven't really put my battery through cycles yet but I'll post when I get a chance...I'm guessing from what I've seen so far about 4-5 hours screen on time with mix of internet/games
If you don't post your screen on time shot it really doesn't matter imho...but the 3 shots most people are putting up is perfect for comparison...just my two cents.

Edit: I've noticed over the last few months on ICS that listening to local music on head phones with screen off shows as awake time with solid blue line. Which does make sense, as the phone is not sleeping, but I dont think it reported/showed that way in gingerbread. You used to be able to just compare blue lines for determining a wakelock (other than music).

It actually might have something to do with all the monitoring your doing. I've found if I leave it alone and don't worry about things I easily get a whole day with all radios on 3 hours of screen time and still have about 40%. The battery life comes from the processor so letting it sleep is key.

This phone is godly, but It's been on the charger more than it hasn't and the battery drains so fast if I do anything. This seriously SUCKS... This morning it got to about 40% battery in about 3 hours. I must be super spoiled from my 3500mAh battery lasting over a day with heavy use on my OG EVO. i just wish there was something we could do. What a shame.

If you were using your phone the majority of those 3 hours that would actually be great battery life.

I agree. But when I noticed that I was having bad battery life, I had to find out what the cause was. Sometimes it is a rogue app or a system component gone bonkers. Best to try and root it out and then go back to the non-monitoring.

Just throwing this out there FWIW.

That day I took those pics I was at work. So the wake time without the screen on was me playing podcasts with the screen off. No downloading them. But I seem to have the same result with or without the podcasts.
But I think I did find a major culprit today. One of the stocks widgets I was using seemed to be draining the battery. I uninstalled it and my battery stats seem better.
Not bad.

how do i get into that screen?? i cant find it in my phone!! lol.. sorry guys
Pull down the notification bar hit settings then power then click on the power bar which should bring up the breakdown of the battery
I have terrible battery life....
This is also with an hour of voice calls.
And my signal isn't too great for most of the charge.
If you are getting poor battery life, and have disabled any apps, you may want to consider reenabling them to see if that helps. It seems counter intuitive, but I noticed a significant drop in battery life after disabling certain pre installed apps.

How's ElementalX 0.9 Treating your AT&T M8?

Like the title says, hows ElementalX treating your AT&T M8? I am considering installing for the undervolting option, but I'd like to hear from people already using it. Do you notice any differences? If so what are they?

I installed the kernel with stock options, no undervolting, just sweep-to-sleep. I haven't had it long enough to comment on the battery life but I have about 1.5 hours of screen time right now and I am at 60%, also have been unplugged for 9 hours...so quite a while on standby as well. I'm thinking the battery life will be close to on-par with stock kernel at this rate.
I really like the sweep feature, and also GFX on games are more smooth for sure. Not that they weren't already but I notice a small difference. Thought about undervolting in the future, but as the maker of the kernel states, you don't really need to overclock this device, its already super snappy

Hmmm. I think I'm gonna stick to stock. I have 18 hours since I unplugged and 2.5 of screen on. Battery at 70%.

Under-clocked and under-volted with Ele-X here. Runs cooler than stock, and little better battery life. Very pleased so far.

How is this possible lol? I would love to know how you're getting 2.5 Hours screen on time and 18 hours off charger. Do you mean 2.5 hours awake? or Screen on?
By the time I reached 3 hours screen time, even with the stock kernel, I was getting down to the end of my battery

Screen on. I don't have a screenshot because I had to restart my phone due the ringer not working. But if I'll get some on my next charge.

Yes definitely - I guess I should ask if you're doing anything special? What ROM you're running etc. I got 3 hrs 15 minutes of screen time and 18 hours off charger last night and I was sitting at 8%. Granted I play games throughout the day so without that I would probably be getting somewhere closer to 4 hours screen time, but still that doesn't even touch the rate you're going which would be roughly 10 hours of screen time on a full 100% to 0% charge

Stock Everything. Unlocked Bootloader Via HTC Dev. Rooted. Twrp Recovery. Xposed Framework w/ Sense 6 Toolbox. I run battery saver setting on at all times because I have no need for full processing power and data should always sleep while the phone is sleeping IMO. But I leave Haptic on and don't have it auto reduce brightness.
Last I had charged My phone to 100% on thursday night. Unplugged and did not plug back in until Monday night. That's the most I have gotten so far. Right now I'm at 34.5 hours since charging with 56% charge left and roughly 3.25 to 2.5 hours of screen on. I don't plan on having charging until tomorrow evening, but i still have my mophie external just in case.

Ah, I think that might do the trick there...I have my screen on full brightness, data is on at all times, and I click off power-saver when it comes on because it makes my screen dark lol...I think those differences right there would settle the confusion on my part!
Thanks for sharing, I know if I ever get in a bind where I won't have a charger for a few days, I'll use the Pure+ Method haha

Lol. Sound great to me! You can always change the power saver setting to not reduce brightness and not reduce processing power. Then it will just sleep data connection and some background data. That could increase your usage by a couple hours most likely.
im happy with it.
i beleive i flashed it to over clock 2.7 (Cant remember)
37hrs of battery life right now at 28% remaining with 4.5 hours of screen on time
