[Q] Best TouchWiz Stock ROM out there? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What would be the best ROM, or which are the best ROMs as close as possible to stock (TouchWiz, Samsung Apps, etc), but without any carrier content ?
I'm looking for something as updated as possible (2.3.4 if possible).
Is there one?

Just use a Samsung stock firmware, have a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

Stock rom is stock rom = no carrier content .

I've already installed CWM, rooted and KH3 firmware, but now I'm looking for a ROM.
The ROM that came on my SGS2 has carrier-related bloatware. I do like TWz and wanted to stay as close as possible to stock, but without the bloatware.
Also, the Settings.apk that came, lacks options (like Development Mode).

Stock roms post .

or do you not want a stock rom but a custom rom ??

What you guys think about modaco's ?

give villainrom a try. its the closest to stock and thats why i like it

Darkyrom. I've been using it since the first 2.3.4 leak and haven't ran into a single problem. It also works with Jaykays themes so you get the best of both

GT i9100 with gingerbread

Hi guys
I just got this phone and it is currently 2.3.4
I've done some researches on xda about 2.3.5 and I've found quite a lot of stickies about it. Most popularly are the villian and omega, I just don't know which one fits more nicely for a android noob.
My goals:
Update my sgs2 to 2.3.5 (i've seen none negative feedbacks, so why not)
Root
CW Backup Manager
apps freezer and administrator (kill/allow root access for the sake of side-loading)
maybe (later on) running games emulators (should I go with CFW now)
So if anyone can point me to the right direction for each of my goals because I've found them but I don't know which is best for noob.
Even though i am a noob, following instructions is my thing, I can go from noob to expert really quick so do not hesitate to educate me!
Roms are a personal choice. Stuff added, Stuff removed, themed.
I like the stock firmware and I like it odexed. You can read up on deodexed vs odexed.
There are several 2.3.5 versions but for now I'm finding KI3 (2.3.5) stable and slick. Battery life is good but battery life depends on several things. Modem, rogue apps, kernel, etc.
You can get the official firmware from intratechs original firmware thread.
I would flash KI3 then your stock csc and possibly modem. *#1234# dialed into keypad will list your original firmware etc.
Easiest way to root is with chainfires cfroot kernels. Essentially Stock kernels but rooted.
Both these threads are in the development section.
Buy titanium pro from the market and use it to backup/restore and freeze/remove unwanted apps. Threads around containing what is safe to freeze/remove.
That will give you a good starting point or base to expand on.
If you want to theme I recommend jkay delux.
Look and feel can be changed with 3rd party launchers, dialers, sms apps, etc. Check out the GO Stuff from the market.
If you want to under clock you can use setcpu with the stock kernel.
If you want to under volt/under clock or over clock you can flash a different kernel. Try siyah kernel with setcpu.
Hope this helps.

i just flash kernel ki3, (8mb) file i downloaded under intratech official firmwares...kernel version now is ki3, how do i upgrade to android 2.3.5??
nvm that i figured it out....is it better to go for Poland KI3 or Frankenstein KI3. I know it's a personal choice, but i would like to hear personal preferences

Changes without new rom

Is it possible to add features to a stock rom rather than changing to a new rom (which always seem buggy) eg.
The camera hack improve video ( in omega rom)
And is it possible to add themes, icon pictures etc without using a launcher or changing rom?

Yes if its a custom stock rom just open with win rar or similar then delete /add
Other wise root and es file explorer delete /and add.

Click to collapse
So it can only be done with a custom rom then.
Are there any custom stock rom that are not buggy. I seem to always read about people having problems with even custom stock roms. Not being able to restore apps with titanium. Back up etc
No he means that with a custom rom you can (but are not limited to) add/edit the files in the archive before flashing it.
This would/should work for Odin Flashes of stock Rom's too.
However, as described you don't need this procedure on stock, you can add/edit the installed apps through a tool such as Root Explorer.
Note that most features of a given Samsung-based custom Rom are not developed by the Rom-Developers but by a 3. party which often provides CWM-flashable versions of their modifications.
Most people that have issues with custom roms attempt e.g. to transfer system apps including the data which often fails.
What if it says you have to be deodexed.? Are there any guides?
Plenty of guides you need to use Google search and read up on customizing Android .
Some in Android forum XDA and SGS2 forum XDA .
Custom rom is just easy .Stock rom far more involved and better to use one of the deodexed stock roms posted that are not customized further .
Yes custom roms especially on month 1 build can be buggy but usually settle down by build 30 .

[Q] RTL Arabic on S2 i777

my first post, please don't flame (too hard).
I've helped others with GPS and Play store glitch after jelly bean update, and now looking for some help.
My wife has an S2 i777 and did SIM unlock to use with T-MO.
It's GB 2.3.6. The PDA is i777 UCKK6.
I'm looking for RTL with Arabic language support. I've done weeks of reading and I found this nice thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292841 But that ONLY supports UCKH7
This phone is not rooted.
Looking for noob instructions for RTL arabic support.
Thanks in advance.
1. Upgrade to ICS and you should have proper Arabic support sans keyboard - AFAIK Hebrew/Arabic/all RTL language support was first introduced on ICS. When on ICS, download any Arabic keyboard from Play Store and you should be good to go.
2. Or move to deodexed GB ROM (any custom ROM) and run madmack's Arabic patcher (google it and you'll find it). It should work on any deodexed GB ROM, since it's based on Hebrew patcher that decompiles/recompiles the framework - but it's also the reason why it can't work on stock odexed ROM.
I suggest option 1.
Thanks Jack.
1) I heard that ICS was a complete failure and has bricked many i777 S2's. Are you saying to root and use custom ROM as opposed to the ATT update?
2) found what deodexed means... www wugfresh .com /guides / deodex/
Do you have any experience with the i777 S2 and ATT ICS OTA update?
Thanks
1. ICS is generally a better system on this phone IMHO. I do suggest moving to it through custom ROMs rather than through stock official upgrade - stock-based custom ROMs offer stock stability with customization options, and EMBRYO 5.4 is a good ROM that I'm happily running. Not sure how relevant the infamous "brickbug" is, but it's irrelevant for most custom ROMs.
If anyone more familiar with "brickbug" can chime in - you might get a better picture. I got mine with Gingerbread, installed TWRP recovery and flashed custom ROM about 1/2 hour after I got the phone, so I have no experience with stock GB/ICS.
2. "Deodexed" means - not odexed. With Google help:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-odex-and-deodex-in-android-complete-guide/
Stock ROMs are always odexed, so you'll have to move to a sort of custom ROM anyway. And if you do - you might as well go a better route than staying on GB.
Since I'm the kk6 (2.3.6) GB, do I need to downgrade factory image first in order to root? Or is there a tool out there to root and put a custom ROM (ICS or JB custom ROM).
Thanks
It's not one tool, it's more.
Read the stickies, they contain rooting guides. See that you understand what you're doing before proceeding.
Thanks Jack. I was just wondering if I needed to downgrade GB version first.
No, you don't need.
Just to let you know, there is a thank button to thank the user that helps you.
It's used a lot here on XDA.
You can thank 8 a day.

[Q] Stock GB rooted rom?

Due to some weird reasons i need a completely stock rooted rom, just like Santod's current ICS rom here, but GB. I havent been able to find one with a working link. Any help would be great. The next best thing would be a GB rom with the original sense and phone settings.
2.11.605.19 stock rooted rom

[Q] How can i deodex a 4.1.2 stock samsung rom?

Hi again. I was wondering how would i deodex the stock 4.1.2 samsung rom in S3? I would like to deodex it by myself because i like the samsung goodies it has, BUT i would also like to change themes using XthemeEngine so i tried one theme called "Blacked Out" but it just changed the notification icons and nothing else, i just made a try but i know that in this state is impossible, so i searched how to deodex stock roms, and i've found this:
http://technologic101.wordpress.com/2012/07/24/tutorial-how-to-deodex-a-stock-android-rom/
After following the basics steps, i get stuck on 3) : i won't deodex any app even if i remove several .odex files from /oirigi_app, but it's always the same. So, i guess i need a proper method for the GT-i9300, any ideas?
If it were by me...i would just install an already deodexed custom rom...but the last time i tried, i had problems with connectivity, i think it was because the default modems weren't compatible with my region, right? So unless i know how to install the proper modem i won't install any custom rom yet. (However..., when i tried Siyah Kernel Dual Boot option for the first time with UltimaRom, it worked fine and i could connect even to Mobile Data from my operator, but if i try to install UltimaRom as my main rom, it would refuse to connect...)
I hope there will be luck, thanks in advance!
