Increasing wifi speeds - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I have my x10 and I want to increase my wifi speed. Can anyone offer any suggestions

You can improve the signal strength of the wifi router by using a parabolic antenna. Simple design google it and happy surfing....

I mean is there a line I can use in the build prop. On wolfbreaks Rom the speeds are unreal. Yet on the stock its so slow

The real wifi speed is more related to baseband, what may be your issue is something related to software processing that is too slow, as far as i know there is not much of a difference regarding wifi signal strength or anything that would affect wifi directly, the only changes are in system response and processing.

Tweek increase wifi signal

hi guys,
is there a tweek on how to increase wifi signal strength for vibrant roms?
i notice that miui v4 has a strong wifi signal strength compare to other roms like ICS zenwich and CM10 port.
i plan to flash the final build of ICS zenwich but Im gonna miss the strong wifi signal of miui v4.
Devil ICS kernel will give you a stronger WiFi option

As the post above me mentions, if you flash the devil kernel and the devil config app, there is an option to increase the strength of the wifi.
You may also derive some benefit from editing your build prop. You can find some build prop tweaks in this post:

Two WiFi Questions

I know there's some previous posts about this, but I also know things change rapidly, so I wanted to get some up to the minute info:
1) I'd read that the Prime's hardware is capable of 2.5Ghz and 5GHz WiFi, but that ASUS disabled the option. Has anyone written a prog or hack that can activate the 5GHz feature?
2) I know the Prime's only major blemish on it's performance is WiFi, not having 3G, it makes it imperative to have good WiFi performance. I've unlocked my Prime and I'm running the Virtuous ROM, just so you know what I'm running. However my question is the same as above, has anyone written a prog or hack that improves WiFi performance, or is it just a black eye Prime users have to live with?
My understanding is that the WiFi performance is a hardware issue and not a software issue. I've seen a few folks be pretty emphatic about that, especially in light of the recent JB release -- many were asking if it'd fix the WiFi issue. Short answer: No.

ics vs gb xperia s

wnated to know if gb is better than ics am on ics have some problems my reception drops alot and 3g internet takes forever to load

I don't think it's related to ICS. Many people here think ICS is laggy, but I haven't noticed that. Connection problems are probably just because of signal strength in your area.

wierd because my motorola atrix has top connection even my 3g is fast on it
ics has its own benefits and gb has its own..eg: in gb the fw can be made really light..but thats not possible in ics s most app are not bloat and need to stay...so gb has less ram consumption...ics has more features in stock like walkman(only on sony phones) or swipe to remove..etc...really depends on what type of user you are
I am using ICS for quite some time and I have to say it's pretty good. I never felt that I wanted to go back to GB. Firstly I upgraded to .45 and the improvement was big (only downside was the autofocus bug) but when I upgraded to .50, everything went smooth. I am satified enough and I don't have any drops in signal and 3g is fast. Also check whether you're connected to 2G or 3G when checking the signal. I sometimes find out that if I have low signal is because there is no good 3G coverage in the area, then I select 2G and I have full signal.

funny thing is ive never tried gb on xperia s when i got the phone it was preloaded with ics
Think its okay. The battery lasted longer for me on GB tho..

Maximum Wi-Fi speed with the i9100?

I get about 0.5mb/s speed on the local Wi-Fi network. I get up to 8mb/s on the computer (802.11N card). What about you? Maybe it depends on kernel/rom..?

Little answer please

You didn't get an answer because this info is easily found via a Google search Look for the SGS2 entry at Wikipedia, then follow the links to the article on the relevant WiFi standards.
Oh yeah "802.11 a/b/g/n Wifi" is it? Do you know which speed each of these letters is supposed to give..? I do, so i'm going to tell you that with 802.11n (which my router fully support) you're supposed to get up to 450mb/s. In reality you get let less, but it's still up to about 250mb/s, now you can even divide that by eight, which result in 31,25, far from 0.5 (the speed i get, if not lower, which my 1st post mention, did you read it fully..?) isn't it? Now you might see things that others don't, if so just tell me.
Hmm..?

It depends on many things. Bug in the kernel, faulty hardware, the distance from the router (phones have smaller antennae than laptops due to the size constraint, so laptops will constantly get higher strength signal than phones), faulty routers are all factors, if your phone is the only wifi device that's not getting the speed it should.
I don't know what the real life max speed of GS2 is, but I've hit somewhere between 20~50Mbps on a N router that has 1000Mbps internet connection (~750Mbps realistically, and I wasn't the only one connected to the router). So it should be able to get 8Mbps that your computer is getting, assuming the GS2 is right next to the router.
It doesn't change depending on placing.. And I can go faster when downloading. So I don't think hardware is défective..

Radios

Sorry if this is already posted! Is there any radio (firmware) lists anywhere? I can't seem to find any on the forum. Also which is best for the dinc 4g lte?
Also which kernel runs best with kitkat? I have loaded Smasherx rom and everything works without any quirks. The only thing I have noticed is a weak signal compared to my Viper rom I came from.
Thanks for all responses!!
I'm not sure about updating the radio firmware but the signal difference is just how Sense ROMs and CM displays the signal not the actual signal strength. If you display the numeric signal strength should match.

Doing a speed test is always slower with the cm11. I have checked it many times. Dunno why!
