[Q] Galaxy SII Root/Unlock - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my Galaxy SII from Bell Canada and need to unlock it to Fido. After spending hours on forums still haven't been able to find a simple guide to do this. If someone could please help me out with this, very anxious to use this amazing phone but don't really want to pay $40 to get a unlock code. I've been using Android for a couple months but haven't really gotten into rooting until now. Thanks.

All the info you need should be on the first post of this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193695

[Q] Risk rooting my Bell S2 or pay Bell $75 for unlock?

Hey guys!
Just looking for advice here - recently sold my Xperia Play and bought an S2. I am on Rogers so I need to unlock the phone. I know that rooting will result in a loss of warranty, so I was wondering, do you think paying $75 is worth keeping that warranty? You guys have been around plenty on these forums I'm sure, have you heard much on the front of bricking the S2? I have never rooted an Android before (although I have plenty of experience jailbreaking the iPhone, so I am no stranger to this sort of thing!). Also, you sacrifice the warranty, but if there were any problems with the phone, are there ANY options out there or would I be SOL?
Also, if you recommend rooting, any best guides you can point me to for Bell S2 on Rogers? Thanks!
Hey, I too bought a GS2 from Bell but before that I had an iPhone 4 and a GS1 (i9000m) which I had rooted and modded several times. Suffice it to say I was not too nervous about rooting the GS2 because of my past experiences with my last phone. The only thing I was concerned about is the huge abundance of modem .tar files, since Bell hasn't released the KG2 one for the Canadian version. I found this thread after some google searching and followed the instructions given by netvampire at the 4th post down: edit, so it won't let me post the URL because I am a new member (been a member for over a year??) so just search Root Bell Galaxy S2 on google and it's the top result "free unlocking solution reportedly not working"... and I flashed this: CF-Root-SGS2_JP_XSG_KG2-v4.1-CWM4 to PDA with ODIN because it seemed the closest to stock haha. Anyways, it worked well. Also, if you ever need to unroot the phone just restore to factory settings via CWM (CWM is usually installed when you root your phone), this should restore the warranty as long as they don't know you rooted it. I haven't yet unlocked the phone because I'm using it on Bell but I did unlock my GS1 and that was fairly straightforward.
Im pretty sure that you would be able to revert the phone to an unrooted state incase you needed it for warranty purposes, with that said. I needed mine unlocked at all costs (I'm on rogers) and was not willing to pay bell the 75$ or buy one online for like 40$, thats too much! I just rooted and unlocked it since I'm on rogers, totally free and the phone works fine, i have had zero issues.
Regarding the warranty, to be honest in my opinion the samsung warranty is TOTAL crap here in canada at least. I remember i had an issue with my original i9000m and samsung has you deal with bell totally, they will not touch the phone at all themselves. I had to give it to bell (again hassle as i wasn't a bell customer but finally they gave in and sent it to some third party repairshop on samsungs behalf.) Took like a month, and the phone came back fixed.
So honestly, i personally would not sacrifice that much for the warranty, just check the phone as it is now, before unlocking make sure everything works and id just cross my fingers.
As far as it stands as is, to my understanding the phone has no groundbreaking problems that can show up or develop after use unlike the i9000m which had that whole rom chip frying if you upgraded to froyo (which happened to me)
If you want to root, just install the cfroot kernel through odin, all the normal bell firmware will stay, the apps, bloatware even. Just the kernel will be rooted, after that, just search on market for the galaxy s unlocked by Helroz and it works great. This is the thread for rooting http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 using cf root.
Do not hesitate to root.
I've rooted mine, no problems so far.
I just tried rooting my bell S2 and not having much luck here. Everything went well until i tried loading Oneclickroots version 1.1 it says this "S2 root application is for samsung galaxy S2 devices only" odd because i am rooting an s2. Anyhow, i think im going to reload the stock kernal in there to get rid of the yellow triangle and get someone to unlock it for me.
I dont know how to retrieve it off my phone so if anyone can kindly email me their original kernal version MUGKG2 i would greatly appreciate it.

The original version hasn't been released yet... Which is why I was hesitant to root my phone, BUT since there was no cheaper alternative to the $75 fee from Bell, I did it anyways (thanks to all these fine chaps). After you root your phone, install the Galaxy_s2 app by Helroz from the marketplace.
FYI - just rooted using this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
and unlocked using free galaxy s unlock app from market (it crashes at the end, phone rebooting...unlocked! )))))
Just bought used-to-be-locked to Bell phone today
I wouldn't call rooting a risk. I rooted mine 30 minutes after purchasing the phone, and having no problems at all.
I just picked up my SGS2 today (coming from a SGS1) and rooted it then installed Darky ROM before using it. No issues at all.
There's no usually no risk in rooting, its what you do after rooting your device. Rooting for sgs2 has to be one the easiest.
You can also return your phone to factory for warrenty purposes.
I would suggest you read a little more before you continue.

the guy who sold me the SG2 mentioned that, one benefit of using an unlock code (either purchased from Bell or a 3rd party) vs. rooting is that you can continue to receive updates from your carrier after the unlock. IE, if a new Andriod version is released and Bell is pushing it to its customers, someone who used an unlock code would be able to install it, vs someone who rooted the phone will not.
Is this true?

[Q] Android and Note noob, need advice

Hi everyone,
Sorry if this has already been answered, but I'm losing focus reading all the posts on the subjects. And I'm on a limited timeframe, so I would really appreciate if someone could help me or point me at information that I can use. I'm totally new to Android - replacing my iPhone.
I just got a Note from Rogers (Canada). I have 2 weeks to return if I'm not satisfied. I like Note but it's locked and I travel a lot, so I need to unlock it. There are too many options here and I'm getting confused:
1. Google gives me a lot of links to some shady websites that promise an unlock via some magic. Are these legit? Do they work? I couldn't find any definite answer.
2. Rooting/replacing ROMs/other crazy stuff. I'm ok with this as long as I know that I can unlock the device and it will stay unlocked. I would prefer to wait until ICS is released, but I need an unlock soon
So, my questions are:
1. Is going with Note from Rogers a good idea? Or should I spend money on an unlocked version from Europe?
2. Should I buy Roger's version outright? Expensive and I'm paying my 3 year term anyway Then they can unlock the phone for a fee ($50).
3. Can I use one of those online unlocking sites? Or will I just get ripped off and won't get the actual unlock?
4. Does the phone stay unlocked after an update (like to ICS) if online unlockers are used and work?
5. Seeing how different the versions of Note are is there a chance that the Canadian version (Roger's) will get much less attention in the area of third-party devs simply based on the number of users? Or it doesn't matter? I would really love to get into modding and having some real nice functionality/wigets/look-and-feel on the device.
Well, sorry for being so verbose. I would appreciate any help on this. My other choice would be to get a Galaxy Nexus instead, but I'd hate to give up this huge screen.
Thanks in advance! Hope this is not totally off-topic. If it is, I'm sorry for that.
cellunlocker.net is what most have been using, if record ur process of unlocking ur phone and send it to them they refund ur money i myself couldn't record it so i paid but well worth it 25 bucks and its pretty quick just check ur spam folder in mail if ur using gmail mine was there within two hours

Unlock SG i747
I'm also in the exact same boat, has anyone been able to figure out how to unlock this phone? I have mine rooted too and I REALLY don't want to pay at least $30 to unlock a phone!
Why dont u call the carrier?
i got my bell s3 and have to pay to unlock it..i think about 32.99usd and it works for my fido network! pm me for the site if u want it!
widow
I contacted bell, It's 75 dollars to unlock and yes I know about websites where you can unlock for 30 dollars but I just spent a ton of money on a new phone, case and sd card so I'm not really keen on spending another thirty dollars
finally submitted to using an unlocking website and used unlockclient. com it's the cheapest I found for only 25 USD and really works. You can use paypal to make the transaction.
sold mine.
Better buying the real Galaxy S3 i9300 unlocked rather spending 25$ on the north american dual core one
Selling
How much did yours sell for? And how much did you buy your quad core phone for? I feel like it would be too much hassle and I would end up losing money in the process.
There's no way to do it without some stupid code thing or paying any money, like the way you can do it on the iPhone?

Use code crackb50

[Q]Trying to unlock my Galaxy S III

I have a Galaxy S III SGH-i747 running Android 4.1.2 with AT&T, I have already rooted it using Chainfire's method but it is still network locked with AT&T. I've tried getting a code out of AT&T but I don't fulfill the requirement of using the device with them for at least 6 months. Since I've rooted it, is there an easier way to get the phone unlocked?
If I posted this in the wrong place, I am sincerely sorry. I've been dealing with the issue of breaking the shackle off my phone that is AT&T for several weeks, needless to say I am irritated and would deeply appreciate any help I could get.
Found this..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176719
Hope this helps
Ah yes, I've tried that. I read that it doesn't work on v4.1.2. I get to the SHA256 OFF part but NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ never shows up when I go back.
