[Q] Homescreen Shortcut direct to dialer? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I there anyway to have a button / icon on the homescreen that directly opens the dialer. So that I don't have to open the dialer via contacts then scroll the tab left. I can't find a shortcut or widget that does it. Have done a few searches but to no avail. Any help provided would be gratefully received.

+1 to this.

I'm thoroughly confused by this question. There's an app called "phone dialer".

there's an app called phone, but it opens the phone app at contacts, not the dialer.

Okay - I guess we have different firmware that have different apps then. When you scroll the tabs to the left to get to the dialer, does it not remember that next time you open the app?
Alternatively, and if you'd be happy with a 3rd party replacement, look at GO Contacts. It installs as both a contacts app and a dialer, and really is very good. I'm all over GO apps at the minute!

I just use the free "no lock" screen app, then all you have to do is press the dialler button once the phone wakes up.

If you don't know what facepalm means then just google it. As for why, read the thread properly.

Ohh, yes my mistake jumping to conclusions, so many threads and so little time,
You could have told me a little more subtly and saved my embarrassment.

[Mod] SMS link in dialer

Hello all,
So I hate repetitiveness in the UI so I have swapped the dedicated VM button with an "goto/initiate SMS" button. We already have a voicemail button by pressing or dialing one why do we need two?

Glad to see you around here
very cool.
Any chance you can make the dialer numbers scalable as well? (for alternate DPI?)
Forcing the log button to stick on what you want logged would be great too. Right now, if you hit log or the press the green phone button, you get a log of all calls and SMS messages. You can switch it in the menu but it reverts right back to log all. I loved how my cappy would show you logs of just the phone calls made/recieved.
Nice + 1 setimg up now

Is it possible to have the Google Voice sms instead? Thanks ChanceM!
Works great even with Google voice messaging. Thanks bro

Or have it be able to open the Google Voice inbox would be pretty awesome.

Hate to ask but how do i install this? I tried uninstalling contacts in titanium backup and restarting first, but when I tried to install the apk it just said "not installed", I do have unknown sources allowed in settings.

Place it in system/app (to replace the existing one) via root explorer (and fix the permissions to match everything else in the folder, rw-r-r).
Is this for stock?

This does not work on a stock/rooted phone. Maybe on a custom rom but pushed it on a stock phone and the SMS button takes me to voicemail.

The things I'm most annoyed about JB.

1) 2 steps to select the item you want to use. It used to be that you would select the item and that's it, if you wanted to make it default you would check mark the make default. Now you need to select always or only once and then select the item.
2) In the gmail expanded mode I would like to see only emails that arrived since the last time I looked at the list in gmail.
3) Still no snooze options
What's your list?
ummmmm

Maybe someone at Google will listen.
But anyway you guys are just rude.
1) You provide no context for what you are selecting. Therefore is difficult to know what this complaint is about.
2) Gmail always shows your whole inbox, has been that way since before JB. So that's not a JB issue, rather, an issue you have personally with gmail. Most people want their whole inbox to show. If this isn't what you meant, you need to be more specific.
3) Again, context and details ate vital to people helping you. I assume you're talking about a snooze mode for alarms? I haven't tried JB yet so I don't know what the clock app is like, but as a temporary fix, look in the market for an alternate alarm app.

Nonsense, this dialog has changed visible but functionally it is exactly the same. You set default, or Just once. Just like before, except it's ONE more tap.
FYI he's talking about launching intents without a default; for me I see this primarily when launching a browser as I have several installed.

Looks like your friend installed an app which uses ads for its income. These kinda apps create the shortcuts like "Apps 4 Free!"...
By clicking on these apps the developer of the app gets paid. So just remove the app that you installed just before you start seeing this shortcut.
Btw just deleting the shortcut will be enough.

Download Lookout Ad Network Detector from the play store (if the playstore is available for you) to find out what app is making those icons

Quick launch app

Hi everyone..
I'm looking for an app, widget or anything you can think of, style appsi, sidecontrol or any other quick launch app, that can be activated through a shortcut or any other way beside gesture... From my experience both of these apps are the most usefull and efficient apps of there kind. You can add favorite app, contacts, toggels or practikly anything you would like. The thing is that for me personally, being able to activate them only via gesture is quite annoying. I find myself accidently triggering it, or facing bugs. Appsi hasn't released anything for a while, so I guess that the project is over. And sidecontrol has bugs and doesn't work well on my lg g3. Does anybody know something else like theme?
Thank you for taking the time to read this long post, and of course for your help....
You can try SwipePad app.

Sounds simplistic, but why not just put your apps, shortcuts, etc in a folder?

Swipe pad is launched by a gesture, and is rather limited than appsi or sidecontrol...

Because that to access everything you need to go the home screen. I'm looking for something you can access these features from anywhere..
The home screen is just one big menu that has hot key access via the center of the navbar.
I can access it from anywhere by hitting the home key. I can return to any app I've started via the recents key.
Your view of how your menu should work is the same as this. In your app you hotkey access from anywhere. So do I. You would have categories to establish multiple menu levels. So do I. You need to return to the app you were in. So do I.
Mine is just reinventing what we already have. Yours requires additional code and system resources. I'm using mine and you're still looking.

[SHARE][APP] SwiftOpen - Fast Launcher

Hello. Yesterday, i was searching for an launcher (NOT a home launcher} which allow me to run apps more quickly from any app I'm running at an moment.
I found this app named SwiftOpen. It's thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-swiftopen-fast-launcher-beta-t2871523 .
It allow you to add apps shortcuts, even some settings like wifi, so you can put wifi on more easy. You swipe from right (you can change the place from where to swipe) and the launcher come.Read the whole description of it's thread. Oh, and don't forget to press thanks button to the developer
Review / My opinion:
In my opinion it does a great job. I don't even have to press home button to go in another app. It use about 15 MB ram. Last night i had 58% battery and i kept this app running in background and today, in the morning, i had same battery percent. So, it seems that it doesn't drain battery.
Now i don't even need to use the home button, as i placed an shortcut of "home" in the bottom left
I downloaded the latest version released. I encountered one bug: when i want to change the place of an shortcut, the app crash, but the shortcut get moved.
Here is an screenshot. You see an white square in the right, it's because i kept my finger there to take an screenshot, otherwise the launcher dissapear. By the way, you can add more shortcuts, even Tasker ones !!!

Also found this app recently, it's the best launcher by a long shot. I have a G4 and I hate the softkeys taking up screen space, as you mentioned this app means you don't need any other buttons or home button.
Thanks for the tip to put this launcher in the place of the home button, I had it on the side but now that you mention it that's naturally the best spot to put it.
Do you use it on Lollipop and use the Alt-tab feature?
That's not working for me on 5.1, think it's a lollipop issue?
